Rolling Stones Redefine VIP, Nina Simone Goes Clubbing, Scissor Sisters Bribe Us to Be Green

10/30/06, 6:32 pm EST

  • Last night’s Rolling Stones show at the Beacon Theater in New York City was a rock-star-studded free-for-all. Everyone from Christina Aguilera to Jack White to Buddy Guy reportedly joined the band for a collection of guest performances.
  • The concept of a Nina Simone dance remix album gives us chills but we’re going to reserve judgment on Nina Simone: Remixed and Reimagined. We have to stay positive because Billie Holiday is reportedly next.
  • The Scissor Sisters are bribing fans to be more environmentally friendly. If you log onto global-cool.com, and pledge to reduce your carbon emissions, you’ll get to check out a Webcast of the band performing tomorrow night in London.
  • Watch the full video for the U2/Green Day collaboration/cover “The Saints Are Coming.” We really like this song. When Bono comes in we are reminded of how cool Bono is. We do enjoy this reminder.

The stones show was incredible. I had a hard time deciding whether I should watch the show or watch Bill Clinton watch the show… or Michael Stipe… or Maya Rudolph… or Elvis Costello… I guess you get the picture.

How the fuck is Jack White a whiny emo bitch?

When he starts cutting himself with his guitar strings, I’ll get back to you.

The Stones appeal is UNIVERSAL because their music represents the core essence of rock n’ roll.
That same kind of vibe and thrill that Chuck Berry gave his listeners when he first arrived with Maybeline as well as the grit and depth of Muddy waters have been maintained thru the voice of the Stones.
From Brown Sugar to Midnight Rambler… the Stones are what rock n’ roll is all about and that’s why they will remain vital and essential until the end of time.
No doubt that time is on their side.
CHEERS!

yes they are very good already…but all this gushing is a little unseemly. Being in an audience full of celebs is a fate worse than death. Good choices for guest appearances/songs I thought.

Jack White is NOT a ‘whiney emo bitch’. He kicks ass, having more talent than most musicians today. His music is not even ‘emo’…it’s blues-based garage rock. STFU.

I’m with you on the Green Day/U2 collaboration. The video is a great way to show people how things could be. It is an inspirational protest, and very powerful.
