The Black Sabbath Non-Reunion Reunion Tour, Arthur Lee Honored By Queen, MC5, Horrifying Dylan-Inspired Musical Theater

black sabbath

  • Everyone who was in Black Sabbath but was not Ozzy Osbourne will reunite for a reunion tour early next year. The band will not be billed as Black Sabbath (see lack of Ozzy,) it will be called Heaven and Hell.
  • Andy Taylor quits/is fired(?) from Duran Duran again due to an apparently “unworkable gulf” between A. Taylor and the other four members of the band. No word yet on how this will affect the band’s Second Life standing.
  • A very cool box set, Forever Changing: The Golden Age of Elektra Records — 1963 to 1973 will reportedly be released later this fall. The five-disc set will honor Arthur Lee, and will feature a bunch of Love tunes plus material from Queen, the Doors, the MC5 and the Stooges among others.
  • If you want to induce a stage of nausea so profound it will stick with you for weeks, check out this clip of a campy Broadway theater dude from the Bob Dylan music Times They Are A-Changin singing and pretending to play guitar while dancers in ugly striped bathing suit/leotards to cartwheels.
  • Will.i.Am is a busy individual. In addition to his 482 projects (resuscitating Michael Jackson’s career, babysitting Fergie) he will reportedly be working on Cypress Hill’s B-Real on his solo debut.

No offense, Elizabeth, but your knowledge of metal is pretty weak.

You made no mention of the fact that Ronnie James Dio would be singing lead vocals in this line up, and that Heaven and Hell is the name one of the albums that he sang on with the group, hence the name. I know all the Tapes N Tapes fans probably don’t care, but that’s a big deal. Those records he did with Sabbath are some of the most loved of the band’s catalog. (just as Dave Grohl)

Nothing can save Michael Jackson.

Poo-tang | 10/26/2006, 1:10 pm EST

And the reason the can’t be called Black Sabbath is because Sharon Osborne won’t let them.

Zachra | 10/26/2006, 1:24 pm EST

Wayne,

You make mention of Tapes ‘N Tapes fans like they actually exist. Easter Bunnies and Leprechauns, my friend.

SteveHopson | 10/26/2006, 3:57 pm EST

OMG, I wish I had believed you about the nausea inducing qualities of the Dylan clip. That thing is nasty.

Wayne I think Elizabeth’s point is valid. The choice of the touring name is not what important here but rather the fact that the Osbourne camp refuses to validate an important part of Black Sabbath history. Now if they were touring with TOny Martin, Forbidden would be an appropriate touring band name.

Wayne | 10/26/2006, 4:26 pm EST

Oh, indeed. I just think Dio’s name warrants a mention in the blurb. It could lead those unaware to find out more. I think Ronnie James deserves that much.

Forgive the snotty initial post.

B. Breeg | 10/26/2006, 6:31 pm EST

Black Sabbath is still Black Sabbath without Ozzy, Dio did front the band for a significant period of time and although the albums were not as popular as their first records, Ozzy did not “make” Black Sabbath. I can’t believe their not using their name.

Sharron Osbourne, is the Yoko Ono of Ozzy’s World. That b*tch broke up BS. Ozzie/Ozzy has been druged up and made to eat babie food. While Sharron dines with Huff Huffner that hansome 80 something ladies man. B-real has no tallent, Will.ur should “baby sit” Michael Jackson. R.I.P Andy Taylor, Warren kicks your ass anyday! Dylan-Johansen dating? Not Jakob, but Bob Dylan? He needs young meat, so he can swim in a sea of lust….
Donnie Darko Lives!

Klaatu | 10/27/2006, 12:33 pm EST

Good gried Elizabeth, that business about Dio kind of matters! He isn’t exactly obscure.

sam | 10/27/2006, 12:39 pm EST

i want the original line up

BJAJ | 10/27/2006, 1:09 pm EST

Tony Iommi owns the rights to the name Black Sabbath.

Blaming Ozzy or Sharon Osbourne is idiotic. Iommi has controlled the name and the catalogue since 1980.

Jacob | 10/27/2006, 5:30 pm EST

i want the Original Line-up of Black Sabbath to tour….the one with Peter Frampton singing….

Wait….. where am I?

kevin | 10/27/2006, 7:27 pm EST

I gots no qualms with io, but I really would want to see the original line-up more than just Iommi, Ward, and “Geezer” Butler as an actual geezer. Plus, I like Tapes n’ Tapes, even if they are just a less cool Pavement. So sue me.

kevin | 10/27/2006, 7:27 pm EST

I meant Dio in that first line.

WarPigChicago | 10/29/2006, 1:47 am EST

Sabbath is only Sabbath with Ozzie, but Dio with Tony, Geezer and Bill Ward is worth seeing too.

Why all the hostility toward Sharon? I thought her slapdown of Iron Maiden during the 2005 Ozzfest tour was right on target….

SUPERTZAR | 3/13/2009, 5:11 pm EST

Look, enough of this Bull@#$%! It’s time that the origial members of Black Sabbath get together and record a great new album! You know, like “Volume 4″, “Sabotage”, or “Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath”! This Ozzie solo stuff is sappy sh#$! Dio never really did fit in Black Sabbath, and still doesn’t! Ronnie was great with Ritchie Blackmore, and made some kick-ass solo albums, but he just plain sux with Sabbath. Don’t ask me why, but it just doesn’t work, not to say that Heaven and Hell wasn’t a good album, but that was because of Bill Ward.
What made Sabbath a big deal in the first place was the quality of their first eight records. It’s time for another! Why not get together and record a high-quality album just like the old days. Get the old technology back, and just kick ass! It would be a refreshing breath of air to hear a great new Sabbath album, especially with all the crappy music going around now. Get “Guitar World” to do a special issue on Black Sabbath, and come out on a no-nonsense, kick ass tour! And please play “A National Acrobat”, “Sleeping Village”, “Megalomania”, “Wheels Of Confusion”, “After Forever”, “Backstreet Kids”, “Under The Sun”, and “Changes”! Put some creativity back into it guys! Money and business concerns have destroyed Black Sabbath. It should be about hot, catchy riffs, imaginative lyrics, and slick production. Not this big pile of BULL@#$% it’s turned into!!! ______________________________ _____
