Playlist of the Day: New Jersey Is For (Gay) Lovers

10/26/06, 8:34 am EST

Say what you want about Jersey, but the Garden State is poised to become the progressive Utopia of the Eastern Seaboard. And not just cause it’s where the Boss resides. If you read the news, you’ll know that the New Jersey State Supreme Court has determined that homos and heteros should be afforded the same rights. Sounds pretty obvs, but this ruling brings Jersey one step closer to legalizing gay marriage, which is fresh. Think of it: Soon, gay marriages will been on equal footing with straight ones. We presume this means that, among other things, half of them will end in divorce! Don’t you love equality? In anticipation of the impending human rights landmark, we’ve compiled — you guessed it — an accompanying playlist. Don’t be shy! Add your picks!

  • “Forbidden Love,” Alex Chilton
  • “Someday We’ll Be Together,” The Pointer Sisters
  • “When We Get Married,” The Dreamlovers
  • “Partners For Life,” Diddy
  • “Ball And Chain,” Social Distortion

I’d say the Springsteen connection to the nj gay marriage issue is “Franky”. Could be a boy, could be a girl depending on pronoun usage.

I agree “Yes We Can Can by the Pointer Sisters”. Their song “Someday We Will Be Together” is a totally different song than the Supremes song. The Pointer Sisters have always had a loyal gay following.
