Gwen Stefani Is Bringing Yodeling Back . . . From Wherever It Went

10/24/06, 3:20 pm EST

Well, she’s often said one of her favorite movies is The Sound of Music. And here we have unequivocal proof. The first single from Gwen Stefani’s new record, The Sweet Escape, is the Neptunes-produced track, “Wind It Up.” The song features the expected dance-happy bass and marching-band drum stylings plus, you know, yodeling. Lots of yodeling, courtesy of well-integrated samples of Sound of Music slumber-party singalong classic “The Lonely Goatherd.” The song is pretty great, but it’s alarming to hear how much Gwen sounds, in places, like Fergie ripping off Gwen. Reason number 582 to loathe Ferguson: She’s damaged the purity of our Gwen-worshipping ears.

I think its an experiment by record execs to see exactly how easily the public will buy bullshit music. This shit Fergie and Stefani have put out is as bad as I’ve ever heard. Holy shit, nice job, record companies.

WTF? | 10/27/2006, 6:14 pm EST

OMG…and people PAY their hard earned $$ for this to make HER rich? I just don’t get it…

Jacob | 10/27/2006, 4:17 pm EST

This “song” is a joke. In fact, it’s not even a song. It’s just some noise with gwen speaking over the top of it…..there is no singing to speak of on this song….and the lyrics are some of the dumbest shit I have ever heard. It physically hurt me to sit through this song it is so bad. I felt actual, physical pain in various locations on my person.

That new Smashing Pumpkins record can’t come out fast enough as far as I’m concerned.

Someone has to stop her. “Pretty great”? This song blows!

Gwen Stefani and Fergie might as well be one and the same… a glossed-over posterchild for overproduced, mindless corporate pop… less expression than distraction. Just because she WAS in a decent band makes her no more legit here-and-now in my book.

my gosh I agree. no better way to put it also. This stuff needs to die and burn. and the followers as well.

gwen ripping off fergie, fergie ripping off who gives a #***, either way they both share the same sucksicle in my book….there has to be something better to write about….?

There is No Doubt, an End to Gwenith and her dayz at the band of brothers. She no-longer needs boys in a band created by her brother to have success. Just like when Janet Jackson left the Jackson Six to do better s*uff. Gwenie has found out that watching Donnie Darko can n’crease heath and wellness. To say that FERGIE has tallent is like saying Kids Inc. was a good drama. She came from CRAP, she is CRAP! Gwen on the other hand, loves BUSH! That dumb UK band that hasn’t had a hit in almost a decade! Plus Gavin has the fugliest hair a dude can wear.

funny how you put fergie on your front cover, just to rip her up in articles. who runs this zine anyway? cancel your subscriptions, there are better mags out there

Niko | 10/25/2006, 12:29 am EST

Bush is broken up.

Lolli | 10/24/2006, 6:52 pm EST

whatever…the point is, she’s a unique artist. that’s what it’s about anyway, like it or not..it’s not like anyone’s being force-fed this music now is it.

Shaun | 10/24/2006, 5:20 pm EST

I’d still f**k her, even if I did have to listen to her music. When is Bush gonna make a new album?

I think this tune by Gwen, and quite a bit of her solo material, really blows. Not a big fan of Fergie either. Who is listening to and buying this crap anyway?

Thank you!

Where is Gavin? When is Bush going to make a record? F*** Gwen.

Dazed & Confused | 10/24/2006, 4:31 pm EST

I think Gwen’s been scooped by Nellie Mckay’s new cd Pretty Little Head which contains the song Yodel…and didn’t Leann Rimes do a duet with Eddie Arnold called Cattle Call with a bit o’ yodellin’ in it?
