Well, she’s often said one of her favorite movies is The Sound of Music. And here we have unequivocal proof. The first single from Gwen Stefani’s new record, The Sweet Escape, is the Neptunes-produced track, “Wind It Up.” The song features the expected dance-happy bass and marching-band drum stylings plus, you know, yodeling. Lots of yodeling, courtesy of well-integrated samples of Sound of Music slumber-party singalong classic “The Lonely Goatherd.” The song is pretty great, but it’s alarming to hear how much Gwen sounds, in places, like Fergie ripping off Gwen. Reason number 582 to loathe Ferguson: She’s damaged the purity of our Gwen-worshipping ears.
