Weekend Clip: The Very Soul of Rock & Roll, Explained

10/20/06, 5:33 pm EST

Today’s lesson in rock & roll clinic is brought to you by Creative Labs and their Prodikeys drum machine/keyboard. In a deceptively lo-fi promo-vid we are introduced to the backbone of rock & roll: four-four time. It starts out pretty basic, but then our guide gets all genius on us, morphing into this furious salesman-meets-Jerry Lee Lewis. All we get is the quick verbal hint, “Little faster,” and he’s off. The Web tells us this keyboard is a cool fifty bucks. And It’s Friday. Friday = payday. Too easy? Maybe we should pit the Prodikey against that badass four-year-old drummer. Who wins?

When this guy started his “finger frenzy” on the keyboard, I thought I saw smoke.

Let’s give credit where credit is due- this guy is awesome. I think he missed his calling playing in the Japanese version of Rush- “Lush”.

In an attempt to bridge the gap for the Spanish speaking readers, The Count will comment en Espanol today.
¡Un qué vídeo fantástico! El hombre realmente sabe sus tambores. ¡Pienso que debo comprar el teclado!
Cheers.

What’s next? A tuba that doubles as an accordian, or maybe a bad ass electric guitar (the pinacle of music as we know it) that turns into a sissy viola? Drums rock hard! Let’s keep it that way.

Slayer!!!

Jimjams | 10/23/2006, 9:37 pm EST

elia | 10/24/2006, 12:05 pm EST

Johnny Vegas | 10/25/2006, 11:01 am EST

The resonating thunder of pounding a stretched animal skin is the soul and the back-beat of rock n roll, not finger plinking a childs acoustic toy, however the “musician” in the clip is entertainingly energetic… JV.

Chris | 10/27/2006, 1:04 pm EST

Crazy ass kid.
