Comment of the Day: “Chinese Democracy” Has the Force of a Brutal Regime

10/19/06, 11:30 am EST

slashWe personally thought it would have been wise for Axl et al to at least re-title their perpetual “new record,” but pretending to release an album called Chinese Democracy for a decade or so was a good move. People are going ape-shit with anticipation. Especially Not Slash!!, who wrote in response to our details about the record:

I am massively stoked dudes!! Thank Christ!! Axl’s rawking magnum opus is finally on its way to my ears!! My tectorial membranes can’t wait!! I’ve been blasting away “Use Your Illusion” like God’s Own Jackhammer 24/7 on my Hi-Fi all week on the fresh news!! My neighbors are gonna WIG-OUT TO THE MAX DUDES!! One of these Tuesdays . . . Soon. Um–or so they say . . .

All irony aside, this post is freaking hysterical. And God’s Own Jackhammer is a good name for a band. Go start that shit times 1000 to the max, dude.

Axle, no one talks like that unless their burnt… oh

newnoise | 10/19/2006, 12:50 pm EST

Michael Jackson? Gun ‘N’ Roses both released groundbreaking albums in their time but as is the case with every inspired artist turned mega-successful: they fall. Success (especially on the scale the two aforementioned have recieved) can be corrupting and inhibit the artist from creating magik again. Artists have a certain window (usually) where the chemistry is perfect and the result is Appetite for Destruction or Thriller.

However that window has closed on these two. Both have offered nothing but mediocrity, banality and eccentric behaviour over the past 15 years. Their current attempts at resurrecting their deteriorated careers is laughable and depressing.

Peace Love Death Metal

Daniel Salum | 10/19/2006, 1:00 pm EST

Chinese democracy is not going to be a CD as others since the best guitarist of the history (slash) does not appear and axl roses is not the same of before it(he,she) is going to be interesting to listen to the new work of guns and roses

Mike27 | 10/19/2006, 1:27 pm EST

I guess newnoise hasnt previewed any of the new songs off the album yet. nothing short of amazing!! cant wait til it comes out.

Ñuka. Spain | 10/19/2006, 1:45 pm EST

stokeshit | 10/19/2006, 2:05 pm EST

@newnoise

you should give axl a chance…

how can you call his “attempt at resurrecting [his] deteriorated career” “laughable and depressing”??

listen to the album and diss him afterwards if you don`t like it…

HBK | 10/19/2006, 2:08 pm EST

GN’R Is The Best !!!

axleu | 10/19/2006, 2:27 pm EST

“Their current attempts at resurrecting their deteriorated careers is laughable and depressing.”

So laugh, depress and don’t buy that album!!!!!!

2006 Democracy | 10/19/2006, 2:29 pm EST

Oh God I can’t wait for this CD, I think itll be HUGE and give all the naysayers a swift kick in the balls. G’N'R 06! Time to re-claim the throne of rock/music!

karendragon | 10/19/2006, 2:52 pm EST

You have got to be joking! If this album was worth releasing, it would have been released way before now.

MAX | 10/19/2006, 2:58 pm EST

TO ALL GUNS ENEMIES I ASK: IS THERE ANY F”# OBLIGATION FOR AXL TO RELEASE AN ALBUM?. AS FOR ME HE CAN DO AS HE PLEASES, HISTORY HAS SHOWN US HE IS THE BEST DOING WHAT HE DOES……….MUSIC, SO HE CAN SPEND ANOTHER 10 YEARS AND I WILL STILL BE WAITING FOR IT.

AS FOR MUSIC TODAY, DO WE STILL NEED ALL THESE BAND RELEASING CRAPPY ALBUMS EVERY YEAR? THERE HAS BEEN 15 YEARS SINCE UYI AND STILL WE HAVEN´T GOT ANY ALBUM BETTER TO LISTEN TO….

WE NEED GOOD MUSIC, WE NEED GNR

tim | 10/19/2006, 3:10 pm EST

its gonna be great cause the leaks were great and they arent even any of axl’s supposed “big guns”

CAPacelli | 10/19/2006, 5:17 pm EST

i’ll buy it, hell everyone will buy it, even if it sucks just because its chinese democracy dude!!

Not Slash!! | 10/19/2006, 5:37 pm EST

Dummies, I am not Slash!!

Dude | 10/19/2006, 6:06 pm EST

There’s been no album as good as Use Your Illusion I and II in the past 15 years? lmao:

Ten – Pearl Jam
Dirt – Alice In Chains
Rage Against The Machine – Rage Against The Machine
Superunknown – Soundgarden
Definitely Maybe – Oasis
The Bends – Radiohead
(What’s The Story) Morning Glory? – Oasis
OK Computer – Radiohead
The Masterplan – Oasis
Kid A – Radiohead
Don’t Believe The Truth – Oasis
Pearl Jam – Pearl Jam

Try those on for size and see if any of them are better.

However, to everyone who doesn’t care about Chinese Democracy:

WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU POSTING ON THIS PAGE THEN?

Mandela | 10/19/2006, 7:11 pm EST

okay, short of a few great bands that knew they were the best or at least had inkling at the time… bands really dont need to make an album every year, and actually not doing so is what makes some of them stick around longer… like u2 whose every album is either classic or near classic… usually take about 3 years to make a follow up… or the red hot chili peppers… who usually take 4… notice these are the only two bands who started over 20 years ago and are still producing great work that is both relevant and able to stand toe-to-toe w/ their best stuff… This has simple explanations about behind it. if you don’t release an album but every three years, your bound to sound different on each album simply cause the band itself has evolved so much… and instead of having three really strong songs each on three albums, you’ll have 9 out of 11 or so… so unless you’re the Rolling Stones or the Beatles, or Bob Dylan, or Jack White dont release so much damn stuff!!! remember this: you might sell more records now if you release a slew of them- but if you wait and release better rcords they’ll sell more in the long run…

Mandela | 10/19/2006, 7:13 pm EST

and franz ferdinand need to stop selling albums at all, and just release four or five killer singles a year w/ a greatest hits record every three years… they just arent made for albums..

mackle22 | 10/19/2006, 7:31 pm EST

its comming! and its going to be huge! a lot of gnr fans didnt even realize gnr were back. europe knows and they responded well! people say the old gnr fans will hate the new album. . . . i say. . .who cares about them! to most teens gnr will be new to them! Chinese Democracy will be thier favorite album! this will be the AFD of this Generation! GNR FOREVER!

gnr4eva | 10/19/2006, 8:01 pm EST

Whatever | 10/19/2006, 8:56 pm EST

This thing will fly off the shelves on the curiousity value alone. Maybe Axl is a marketing genius. Make them wait…and wait…and wait…until they can’t stand it any longer. I’ll probably buy it and I don’t even listen to my old GNR much anymore.

RockGod | 10/19/2006, 10:08 pm EST

GNR fans, have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Anyone who says negative things are talking without doing their homework. They say its not the original lineup. Your right. Who cares about the original line up. They did not want to co-operate in the first place. Slash is only great if he has Axl’s lyrics to wrap his Gibson around. Judging by the leaked tracks, its obvious this is the real deal. This is what Axl wanted to do before but was being held back creatively. This album will hopefully kill away the emo/greenday bands and bring back zepplin/floyd style 6 minute long songs we want, real music, not this poser shit on the radio. Long live GNR.

Laurens from Indonesia | 10/19/2006, 11:06 pm EST

Come on guys. Come to Indonesia. I will treat you on chicken satay.

Ryan | 10/19/2006, 11:25 pm EST

The leaked tracks have all been amazing. I’d say that so far IRS is the weakest, and it still rocks!! then you’ve got TWAT, Better,The Blues, Chinese Democracy, Catcher In the Rye, Madagascar, and Sorry.which are all greta tracks. Is it the old band? no, which anyone who has followed GN’R since Use Your Illusion, or throughout the entire making of the new album already knows. Chinese Democarcy will blow up big time. After all of the hype there is almost no way that it can fail. Yes everyone is tired of hearing about the album, and that is why it is finally coming out. Axl just waited for everything to suck again like when Appetite came out. Everything was completely watered down, and GN’R brought something unique to the table. They’ll do it again, maybe not with the same massive success as Appetite, but it will definetly go at least triple platinum. As a lifelong GN’R fan I can’t wait to share this moment with all of the other fans, and the band as well!!

mackle22 | 10/20/2006, 12:56 am EST

although i am excited about the new band and the new album, i have to say it drains me . . . . all the delays! in 1996 i was talking to my friends about chinese democracy comming out soon. that was 10 years ago and im still talking about it. now theres a rumor that a box set is due out in january. what the fuck? no way gnr puts out 2 albums that close. they better not use this as an excuse not to put out CD! i bought floor tickets to see gnr in nashville oct22.now i have to wait till jan.

ME | 10/20/2006, 1:13 am EST

Chinese Democracy starts right now, and the most electrifying frontman in the music biz is back and better than ever. This is possibly the biggest most anticipated album of the decade…century… the only way this album could be topped is if george harrison & john lennon came back from the dead and made a new beatles album

Morebetterer | 10/20/2006, 5:47 am EST

I’m gonna laugh when this douche Axl doesnt release the album, and half you people commit suidide via hanging yourself by the elastic in your boxers. It’ll probebly come out after his death, when he’s “perfected” it or has died trying. Can we please talk about someone who doesnt have fake, fire red, hair plugs? Bastard looks like the offspring of Danny Bonaduce and carrottop.

MrSlash | 10/20/2006, 6:45 am EST

I think that Chinese Democracy signs the begin of a new era, that have with starrings the new guns n roses!

Aaron D. | 10/20/2006, 10:31 am EST

Guns N’ Roses is not back. Axl is. There’s a difference.

Sl@$h on Guit@r!! | 10/20/2006, 5:20 pm EST

The joke called “Chinese Democracy” will give me a good laugh.

Not Slash Again!! | 10/21/2006, 12:17 am EST

Everybody who is anybody (not you) knows the trouble with Axl started ten years ago the night he hooked up with that nutty chick who worked as a Feng Shui Consultant for Kip Winger’s record release party at the Viper Room. The word on The Strip is she had Asperger’s Syndrome and wound up giving it to Axl. I suspected that something was wrong when at the next (band that will be unmentioned) rehearsal Axl demanded like a junior high mean girl that I change the strings on my Firebird Les Paul after every five minutes and fifty two seconds. WTF?! I stomped outta the sound lab and drove down to the Tiki Bar for a cig and cold palm…it dawned on me later…5:52 was the running time for “Sweet Child O’ Mine”… Some kooky kinda sidewalk crack countin’ mojo luck generator got mixed into Axl’s head…an’ it hasn’t shook loose yet boys…Take it from me.
