Exclusive: More Juicy “Chinese Democracy” Tidbits

10/18/06, 6:19 pm EST

In the new issue of Rolling Stone hitting stands this Friday, our Brian Hiatt reveals what he’s discovered about the long-awaited Guns N’ Roses album Chinese Democracy. The article begins with this elusive quote from GN’R manager Merck Mercuriadis, in which he essentially retreads stuff we already know: “The album will come out this year. There are ten Tuesdays left before January – it will come out on one of them.” But trust us, it gets better. Highlights after the jump.

  • Following Guns’ headlining gig in San Bernadino, California, on September 23rd, Axl threw a party at his mansion and played the full album in his poolroom for visitors, including his friend Sebastian Bach, former singer of Skid Row. “It was mind-blowing,” says Bach, who is opening for Guns n’ Roses on their upcoming North American arena tour. “It’s a very cool album – it’s badass with killer screams, killer guitar riffs, but it’s got a totally modern sound. The word for it is ‘grand.’ It’s fucking epic. He’s reinvented himself yet again.”
  • The album includes some tracks that have been played live or leaked onto the Internet, including the poppy “Better” and the hard-hitting “I.R.S.” “There’s this one song called ‘Sorry’ that’s almost like doom metal with Axl singing really clean over this grinding, slow beat that is fucking mean,” says Bach. “I cannot get it out of my head.”
  • Veteran engineer Andy Wallace, who mixed Nirvana’s Nevermind, is working on the project, according to a source close to the band. “We’re absolutely delighted with the mixes,” the source says.
  • On October 24th, the band will kick off its North American tour in Miami. Two dates — November 10th in New York and November 20th in Halifax, Nova Scotia — are already sold out, according to Mercuriadis. Additional U.S. dates will be added in early 2007, and the band will return to the States in the summer as well, he says.
  • Though a source told Rolling Stone that the album is due November 21st, Mercuriadis declined to confirm this. “I don’t know that we will announce a release date,” he says. “You just might walk into your record shop one Tuesday and find it there.”

“sorry” sounds absoultely fantastic. i wasnt expecting a doom metal track on the album and that will be cool

AtariLegend | 10/18/2006, 6:58 pm EST

Axl is god bow to his will, now!

gonzalo | 10/18/2006, 7:04 pm EST

with the excellent album that the chilli peppers released this year I don’t think that could be getting better, but a gun’s record to close this great fucking music year(don’t forget dylan’s masterfull disc) will be great

FUCK YEAH! CHINESE DEMOCRACY STARTS NOW!!!! YEAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

Chinease Food for Axl? | 10/18/2006, 7:07 pm EST

I hope the “Chinese” like “Democracy” the way Axl loves coco-puffs. With out / and the other members of G’NR the Axl has been broken. Why doesn’t he just call it what it is, a “solo album”. Thats all it is. Even if his stuff is better then 95% of the stuff on the market. Rod Stewart, makes easy No.1’s selling crap. People are more likely to buy crap then something with depth…. Rod has found that out…

rm9 | 10/18/2006, 7:08 pm EST

cool, i can’t wait, hpefully they’ll give us some release date warning though

João Sousa | 10/18/2006, 7:10 pm EST

I can’t even believe it’s finally happening…

dave-gnfnr2k | 10/18/2006, 7:12 pm EST

Axl Rose, the man, the myth, the legend. Is 2006 finally his year?

Like him or not, Axl Rose is one interesting person and most often he is misunderstood. Some people like to think of Axl as an A hole, but that is just because Axl likes to keep to himself and likes his privacy. Axl does not crave attention or look to make headlines, he gets that with out even trying and sometimes I think that embarrasses him. Just him going out for a steak dinner makes headlines, not many other people in music get that, but Axl does.

A lot of Gn’r fans get upset at Axl because still not given us a release date, but he has said a few times (mtv vmas being the most recent) that Chinese Democracy will be released this year some time in the fall. November looks to be the target date since Richard Fortus has told fans the album will be release after the US tour has started (which officially starts mid October. That is something Gn’r did with the Illusions. This album will make or break his career since it is his first album with out the old band. Axl needs to release the best “in your face rocker” on the album as the first single. If the first single is huge then the album will have no problem selling and being huge.

A lot of old Gn’r fans like to think the new songs we have heard so far are not as good as the old bands songs, but that is not the important question. The important question is, are the new songs as good or better than the current mainstream songs on the radio today? Judging from what is currently on the radio and judging from what was on the Mtv VMA’s the answer to that is YES. I think Madagascar, IRS, the Blues and Chinese Democracy, There Was A Time, Catcher in the Rye and Better are just as good if not better than a lot of the music on the radio right now, and those songs are not even the “big guns” that Axl has in store for us. Better is a style we have never heard before by gn’r and could be a huge hit once we get the studio version.

The four demos we have heard are very different and very good. Better mixes pop with metal, while IRS is a mix of old gnr and industrial music. There Was A Time is very November Rainish and Catcher in the Rye (which features Brian May on lead guitar) is a lot like something from the UYI’s and has a Beatles feel to it. IRS actually charted for radio spins, which is a first for a leaked demo. It also got the most votes for one stations cage match in the history of that station. What is so great about the demos is most people have a different favorite which just shows how diverse this album is going to be and is going to appeal to a wide verity of people. This album will have something for everyone, from the old school fans, to new fans.

For those who think Axl cannot sing any more just needs to listen to these demos, he has never sounded better. If anyone has heard him live from the Hammerstein shows, RIR or the Euro tour know that his vintage raspy voice is also back. His voice has been getting better and better with each show.

He has a set of amazing and underrated players backing him up and they have all worked very hard on this album. The few people that have heard the album have all said how great or amazing the songs are, so if CD is promoted the way it should be it could be the best album of 2006. Axl and his new Gn’r could be on top of the music world again. Just looks at the VMAs this past year. The killers headlined, if gn’r played this year they easily would have been the closing act.

Chinese Democracy is going to be like nothing we have heard before from Guns n’ Roses. Tommy calls the new songs “earth shattering” and Dizzy has said the songs will exceed our expectations. Those statements make me wonder how amazing this album could very well be. Brian May and Tommy have both talked about how outrageous/amazing Axl’s voice is on the album. Tommy also alluded that the rockers on CD will be like old gnr, while Zakk Wylde said the songs he heard from CD sounded like AFD on steroids. Axl’s lyrics are said to have deeper meaning than on past albums, we have gotten a taste of that with some of the demo leaks.

Chinese Democracy is going to showcase the new bands diversity and could still be talked about years from now much like AFD is still proclaimed as being just as fresh today as it was 15 years ago. CD is said to be a melting pot album by Axl and I think we will be able to tell what each members input was to each song. I think each song will have each member’s trademark, something they can all be proud of. I am not saying this album will be the best album ever, but I believe it’s going to something that will inspire discussion for years to come. and not only will it serve to cement Axl’s legendary status as the ultimate rock star, it will preserve the dignity of the guns n roses name in the annals of rock history

Axl has had a few false starts over the past 6 years, but it is now time for Axl to take his throne back as the best front man in rock, others have tried but none have even come close to having Axl stage presence or aura. Axl holds his destiny and legacy in his hands. He can either be the huge star he used to be or he can just disappear again. Either way Axl Rose will always be one of music great mysteries. He had it all in the late 80s and early 90s and he can have it all again if he wants it, he just has to release the album and everything will fall into place. Rock has been missing something for quite some time and that something is Axl Rose.

heavyhitter | 10/18/2006, 8:04 pm EST

Yeah, about time to blow this emo shit out of the water…along with the other mindless trash that passes for music these days. C.D is gonna be the record that changes lives. Again.

EFISH | 10/18/2006, 8:05 pm EST

Woah, I didnt know there was a Guns N’ Roses still! Is Slash still in the band? What about the other member?!!!!

heavyhitter | 10/18/2006, 8:22 pm EST

Valy, why dont you bend over and take it up your ass too?

Johnny | 10/18/2006, 8:22 pm EST

What can I say….. true rock n’ roll shall return very very soon. We shall be saved from the vast wasteland of 90% of the music out there today.

Nytunz | 10/18/2006, 8:26 pm EST

This is very exciting! Im sure Sorry will be a badass song! I love they way Bach describes it.. Rock on! We will soon be blessed

EFISH | 10/18/2006, 8:38 pm EST

Can’t wait! A cure for musical herpes!

vince | 10/18/2006, 8:44 pm EST

Although I can’t wait for the new G’nR album, can u imagine what they could have done the past 13yrs. if Axl wasn’t such a dick????????? Too bad for Slash but he has his own group now.

anonymous | 10/18/2006, 8:45 pm EST

in case anyone was wondering, axl is the only original member left in the band, the others are in velvet revolver now.

booger | 10/18/2006, 8:45 pm EST

release date …..november 21 st cough cough

Mike_FL | 10/18/2006, 8:46 pm EST

We could sure use a great album again with some great epic songs. Where the actual quality of the music comes first rather than image and sales figures taking precedence.

Mike_FL | 10/18/2006, 8:48 pm EST

Dizzy Reed is still in GNR.

Chip | 10/18/2006, 8:54 pm EST

support it if you want to change the crap that is out there today.

eric | 10/18/2006, 8:55 pm EST

something BIG is going down in the gnr camp……….chinese democracy starts now!!!!

Mandela | 10/18/2006, 9:00 pm EST

what does this say about rock n roll today? if this comes out this year, no matter how shoddy it could be, it will almost definetly be the best thing rock this year. so far this year the best record is stadium arcadium. which is certainly not the best rhcp record. and in no year has the best record released been an rhcp record. BSSM was released along side better records like Nevermind or Ten. Same with Californication. So if a lesser RHCP is the best rock album this year, although not being the best RHCP record, what does this really say about the state of rock?

Mandela | 10/18/2006, 9:01 pm EST

but once again, no matter how many records sold, or how acclaimed it becomes, will it really be able to bring democracy to China?

quad | 10/18/2006, 9:02 pm EST

i could give a fuck less about who’s in the band as long as buckethead or bumblefoot are in it.

Alex Mar | 10/18/2006, 9:19 pm EST

Who the fuck cares? It’s a friggin’ album. I was a senior in college when the “Use Your Illusion” albums came out. I’m fuckin’ 36 now. Fuck Axl and fuck you too.

GNRSANDMAN | 10/18/2006, 9:20 pm EST

The keeping the name Guns N’Roses is old news. People need to get over it. So what if Axl’s the only original member left. The guy has talent and from what I’ve heard this album is going to kick major ass!!!!

Geoff | 10/18/2006, 9:49 pm EST

Carrot Top is the new singer for Guns N Roses!

MJM | 10/18/2006, 9:53 pm EST

Round Two!

Tyson | 10/18/2006, 10:02 pm EST

I am so unbelievably excited. I think this album has the potential to be one of the best of the last 10 years.

Finck&Fortus | 10/18/2006, 10:11 pm EST

This is wonderful news. I’m sure CD will be the most epic release in music history.

Not Slash!! | 10/18/2006, 10:13 pm EST

I am massively stoked dudes!! Thank Christ!! Axl’s rawking magnum opus is finally on its way to my ears!! My tectorial membranes can’t wait!! I’ve been blasting away “Use Your Illusion” like God’s Own Jackhammer 24/7 on my Hi-Fi all week on the fresh news!! My neighbors are gonna WIG-OUT TO THE MAX DUDES!! One of these Tuesdays… Soon. Um–or so they say…

Chinese Democracy starts NOW!! | 10/18/2006, 10:15 pm EST

THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Jason | 10/18/2006, 10:21 pm EST

” ‘It was mind-blowing,’ says Bach, who is opening for Guns n’ Roses on their upcoming North American arena tour.”

Well there’s an endorsement you can put a lot of faith in.

Matt | 10/18/2006, 10:31 pm EST

I know Chinese Democracy has become somewhat of a punchline. However, I am very excited to hear this album. Hopefully it does come out this year.

Raulinc | 10/18/2006, 10:47 pm EST

Cant wait! I hope they do lots of marketing and promo for him, thats the only way preppys and everyone will like his stuff. maybe he can change some of that cheesy music trend.

Wes Scarlett | 10/18/2006, 10:54 pm EST

I will believe it when I see it. No matter how good or bad the record is it WILL NOT be the pinnacle of rock this year. I’m sorry but Tool’s “10,000 Days,” Pearl Jam’s “Pearl Jam” and Wolfmother’s debut album will trump anything Axl has to offer with Chinese Democracy.

Axl_owns_dexter | 10/18/2006, 11:03 pm EST

Hey wes, thats your opinion, not fact. I’ll reserve judgement until I actually hear the album.

Jack | 10/18/2006, 11:12 pm EST

This shit sounds pretty cool..

estebanf | 10/18/2006, 11:12 pm EST

Kickass! Guns N’ Roses is fucking back, round two is underway!

jc | 10/18/2006, 11:20 pm EST

To Wes:

Wolfmother, better than gnr? PLEASE

Avenged Sevenfold, Buckcherry, and RHCP put out albums that are better than the shit you listed, and the gnr leaks are still better than most of the songs on those albums

gnr rules | 10/18/2006, 11:33 pm EST

FINALLY…i can’t wait to hear it…its going to be AWESOME
hey slash fan…get over it..slash is gone and he is old news…love live Finck Fortus and Bummblefoot on guitar.
every one of the new members sound awesome live, imagine what they sound like in the studio:D

jack | 10/19/2006, 12:14 am EST

all the leaks are phenominal and there just demos cant wait for the final versions

Axl_Rose_Rocks | 10/19/2006, 12:16 am EST

Axl is GN’R

This Album is going to blow anything the music industry has seen in a long time.

And yes there most ceartinly is a GN’R without Slash.

Robin Owns Slash Live.

14 Yrs Of Silence | 10/19/2006, 12:19 am EST

dave-gnfnr2k – nice write-up dude..keep it coming.

Chinese Democracy is clearly the most anticipated release in history. I think it would be a mistake to not promote it, but I guess they know what they’re doing.

ryan | 10/19/2006, 12:23 am EST

guess someone forgot to tell RollingStone and everyone on this message board that GnR has always sucked.

Stands to reason that an album with a title as stupid as “Chinese Democracy” will suck even worse.

Terry | 10/19/2006, 12:29 am EST

Love slash and wish him the best, but this new band kicks fucking ass

Shoup | 10/19/2006, 12:30 am EST

Finally some real damn music comes out. We’ve missed ya Ax.

Shoup | 10/19/2006, 12:31 am EST

Finally some real damn music comes out! Welcome back Ax.

Mike S. | 10/19/2006, 12:46 am EST

guess someone forgot to tell “Ryan” to put away his Hanson CD’s

EFISH | 10/19/2006, 12:53 am EST

Ryan is just mad because his vagina is leaking.

Mike_FL | 10/19/2006, 1:47 am EST

Ryan has issues

readytorock | 10/19/2006, 1:48 am EST

Axl knows what he’s doing. The new songs are all amazing. The new members are class musicians. This CD is Axl’s answer to the current dismal state of rock music. Brainless club music and gay emo music say bye bye. Time for the real men of experience to take over. Axl Rose is taking the lead. And this is a call to all real rockers to unite. GN’R RULES!!

jazjme | 10/19/2006, 2:27 am EST

damn, ok , Im totally excited beyond the beyondI thought OI could be already

RockDied | 10/19/2006, 2:30 am EST

Leaks have been better than most anything else released in years, except maybe tool. Someone said pearl jam? i love em but the last album wasn’t great, the last solid effort was binaural. lets see what axl can do (finally).

Mike Piazza | 10/19/2006, 2:43 am EST

Awesome, I just will not believe anything until the CD is actually in my hands though

marnr67 | 10/19/2006, 2:44 am EST

u know i think any band could’ve covered every song on Chinese Democracy via hearing leaked bootlegs and put out the album themselves in the amount of time that Axl has been saying “one of these tuesdays baby, one of these tuesdays!”

gorm | 10/19/2006, 2:44 am EST

Guns n Roses without Slash is just an over-the-hill guy trying to make a buck for his old age. Let it go Axl.. the new music buying generation don’t even know who you are anyways.

anti-skeptic | 10/19/2006, 2:58 am EST

I think the album will be so-so. Axl realizes this and has been stalling for years. The new GNR is trying to sound like NIN but we already have a NIN. No can recreate the spirit of APPETITE. Not even GNR.

anti-skeptic | 10/19/2006, 3:02 am EST

S. Bach is an idiot. He thinks his solo stuff is classic too.

Grog Mug (Justin) | 10/19/2006, 3:05 am EST

GN’R is going to takeover the world. Promotion or not, this album will be the best any band has released in years. Just listen to Better, T.W.A.T, Madagascar, I.R.S, etc. These are great songs, and Axl’s voice is in top form. Bucketheads parts will still be on the album as well which makes it THAT much better. CANT WAIT!!

Laurens from Indonesia | 10/19/2006, 4:23 am EST

It took him how many years? He probably got bored toying with it and decided to get the thing out. I just hope that after breaking his duck he’ll be churning out new albums at more shorter intervals.
And that this time the band will visit Jakarta.

chas | 10/19/2006, 5:00 am EST

I’ve heard some songs from the album and i must say they truely are mindblowing. If the other songs are of the same quality have no doubts the album will be epic and most probably historic. Its actually that good !!!

Carol | 10/19/2006, 5:45 am EST

Well, now’s the time!!
There really isn’t anything new or staggering out there at the moment, but this will take it!!
Axl is the man :)

Morebetterer | 10/19/2006, 6:26 am EST

Well, well, well. Looks like it is time. This album should be good, he’s taken more time to make the record than he took to create those fake dreadlocks atop his head (What, the better part of a decade?) Stop calling it Guns N’ Roses though. Its not Roses without Slash and Duff. More like Guns N’ Posers.

Rizzo | 10/19/2006, 6:43 am EST

Everyone keeps saying Slash……..newsflash…….t here is no G-N-R without IZZY – period.

CARPOLA | 10/19/2006, 7:20 am EST

YEEEEEEAHHHHHH…..AXL ROSE IS GOD

Morebetterer | 10/19/2006, 7:30 am EST

Yes,Izzy or Matt. Hell, Velvet Revolver is more G n’ R than this mockery. It’s as if Ringo
(who sucks only, slightly more than Axel) went off and picked up four other dude and put an album out under the beatles name. I dont know you G N’R fans love him so much, he destoryed the band you love. He’s like Yoko, except even less masculine and further devoid of talent.

Steert | 10/19/2006, 7:33 am EST

HELL YEAH!!!

Dan | 10/19/2006, 7:34 am EST

Went to all the Hammerstein shows in May (best shows of my life). Going again to the Garden November 10th…can’t wait!

Niceboy | 10/19/2006, 8:09 am EST

“Pearl Jam” sucked ass! Its not exactly gonna be difficult to beat that!

Pootie Tang | 10/19/2006, 8:21 am EST

Hell yeah W.Axl Rose is god!! When/if it drops I’m the first one in store! Damn I can’t wait..

JP | 10/19/2006, 8:43 am EST

Got great lower-bowl seats for the sold-out Halifax show, can’t wait! I’d like to hear the album before it’s supposed to drops in November though, because it’s schedded for the day after the show…

axl rose is gay | 10/19/2006, 8:44 am EST

GNR is dead as could be

GNR >>> WAS!!!

chas | 10/19/2006, 9:08 am EST

Its great to see the genius behind GNR ready to release an album. I also feel its great for Axl to have fired the drug junkie Slash as he only focused on looking ‘cool’ and was devoid of talent as all his work after being with Axl proves.

granted | 10/19/2006, 9:16 am EST

The dude although not the greatest singer in rock was probably the best frontman around, very charismatic. Arguably the real and only talent in GNR. I’ll give him a chance like i did with VR, although VR first cd sucked huge, sweaty swollen rhinocerous balls.

Oddjob | 10/19/2006, 9:24 am EST

“Morebetterer”, you are the biggest idiot in the history of time. I cannot stress this enough

Hernandez | 10/19/2006, 9:24 am EST

when I was , like, 14, this album was something I was really excited about. But, then, the years passed by and I just don’t care anymore. And the new songs on the internet are nothing but regular stuff

Rainman | 10/19/2006, 9:39 am EST

Is Oct. 24th the date???

Thanks,
Rainman

**AXL IS GN’R and always was !!!!

You cannot talk about such a thing. This topic is deleted

the new gnr sucks | 10/19/2006, 10:06 am EST

i think that the old band had the greatest hits ever i mean you can just go walking and hear them playing like in a car or at a tailgate somewhere or at a football game and if axl wonts to make a band and name them guns n roses hes gay cause the old band was guns n roses not this but if it had all the old band we would be rockinn out !! but axl is a retared a fuckin crackhead on every kind of drug there is and he needs to die and i was going on won of those concerts but it was prosponed and that made me mad as hell

Hey Now | 10/19/2006, 10:14 am EST

batfink | 10/19/2006, 10:36 am EST

Appetite for Destruction was the only real deal, a classic. The rest is crap…

Mudville | 10/19/2006, 10:42 am EST

Velvet Revolver is a solid band with a classic metal sound. I do not however, think they are groundbreaking. They seem to work well together and have added vocal harmonies that neither GnR or STP had. They are a band that will probably be around for a while and sell decent numbers but not be a huge force on the music scene. Axle Rose is a man who has always envisioned more for GnR than the boogie metal sound. It seems to me he is driving him self crazy with this project. Instead of being so calculating, he just needs to go with this thing. I would like to see him be the punk he once was. This seems to be a pipe dream however. How can anybody who has been in the public and has the history he has go backwords. Most artist make the best work of a career when they are between 25 and 30. Axle has to be in his early forties. Can he recapture some fire after being gone for so long? I think it is possible. I think he will need to have young and hungry musicians around him who have musical vision to strengthen his own vision. This is going to have to be a collective effort if this new GnR is going to be one of the great bands around.

Is 10/24/06 the date?

Or, 10/31, 11/07, 11/14, 11/21, 11/28, 12/5, 12/12, or 12/19?

Disaster | 10/19/2006, 12:08 pm EST

Predicting that this album will be a disaster is like shooting fish in a barrell.

Luckily there are still people with their leather jackets, teased hair, and homoerotic tight pants that will buy the album.

shmee | 10/19/2006, 12:22 pm EST

What the fuck is doom metal?

Aaron D. | 10/19/2006, 1:01 pm EST

There is no way that Chinese Democracy can match the hype that has surrounded it for so long. If “Oh My God” is any indication, (their uber-crappy song from the End of Days soundtrack), then this album will blow. Hard.

Slash’s guitar work was always a centerpiece for GnR. Chinese Democracy will suffer without him. Guns n’ Roses was more than just Axl. If I had to bet money on it, I’d say that Velvet Revolver’s Contraband is the better album.

Honestly | 10/19/2006, 1:04 pm EST

Who cares. Rock is dead. As long as a$$holes like the Killers are making music and Jeff Mangum is still on a vacation, no one cares.

Hugh Jakauck | 10/19/2006, 1:29 pm EST

I thought Axl died, like 5 years ago???
What…he’s alive? He’s still making “music?”
Dude, somebody needs to go JFK on his ass, and splatter his cerebral cortex…all over…
Manhattan…shadoobee .. .

Faith | 10/19/2006, 1:32 pm EST

This album will be the greatest that has ever been released, slash leaving was probably the worst thing that could have happened to GN’R, but it has allowed Axl to take them in a new, better direction.

No one will ever be able to recreate the genius that was Appetite For Destruction, so trying to do so is a waste of time, Axl sending GN’R into a new era is the best thing that could have happened.

rube | 10/19/2006, 1:37 pm EST

why anyone who doesn’t like axl would care if he released another album or goes on tour? how narcistic to think because you don’t want it released, it shouldn’t. but guess what the world doesn’t revolve around you haters, go listen to emo. i can’t wait to see Axl & Co. in Calgary, AB. and IF Chinese Democracy does get released give it a fwe spins then and judge AFTER you hear it a few times…. or not. whatev’s.
If its Appetite #2 or Illusions #3 that would suck. I hope its like nothing we’ve heard so far.

GNRSANDMAN | 10/19/2006, 1:44 pm EST

Yes I believe there’s no question that when Slash left it felt like bad divorce to Axl. Just read the press release from 2002 before the euro tour. He wasn’t ready to come back then. He was going on and on about Slash. Slash had left 7 years before but in Axls mind it was like it just happened.

Daubach | 10/19/2006, 2:11 pm EST

Give G-N-R time! Axl is a perfectionist, plain and simple. The album is going to rock.

Nobody complained that Michelangelo took too long to paint the Sistine Chapel. He just painted it, and it was legendary. Next thing you know, he got involved in comic strips and acting. He ended up making millions of dollars hanging out in sewers, fighting evil, and karate chopping his way to a complete line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles merchandise.

I had the opportunity to meet Axl a few years ago at an all-inclusive when I was vacationing in the Bahamas. We were out by the pool. He was surrounded by a bunch of handlers or whatever, but he was very laid back. I hopped on the diving board and said, “Mr. Rose, check this out!” and then I did a huge cannonball. It was awesome. Axl goes, “Dude, that was mint!” and I was like, “Damn straight.” We both laughed for hours. It was hysterical.

I wasn’t able to secure any tickets for the upcoming tour as of yet, but Axl said he might swing by my apartment to play a set or two. I’m going to invite my friends and my cousin. It will be epic.

danny D | 10/19/2006, 2:12 pm EST

yeah its just hype, it will probably be pretty good album but in a few months it will blow over.
people just want AXL ROSE. I don’t think the media will give a damn about the music when it is released. A lot of people have huge expectations for this record. Unfortunately I don’t think the record will be as MIND BOGGLINGLY FANTASTIC as it being made out to be.

BOB-O | 10/19/2006, 3:55 pm EST

Axl Rose is a lady and this album is going to suck balls

Aaron D. | 10/19/2006, 4:24 pm EST

Have you seen Axl lately? He’s a bloated, corn-rowed parody of his former self. Appetite for Destruction wouldn’t have been the monster it was without Slash, Izzy and Duff.

What’s funny is that he (and an alarming number of his fans) still believes in his own relevance! Referring to this Axl solo project is an insult to the Guns N’ Roses name.

Idiots! | 10/19/2006, 4:26 pm EST

Just watch. The day it comes out all of you mofos will be flat assed broke that week and will have to wait until after Friday to get it. There will be much gnashing of teething and tearing of clothes. And I’ll be laughing my ass off.

moe | 10/19/2006, 4:58 pm EST

How can some of you say that the album is going to suck? That’s like saying that the team who placed 2nd in the world championship sucks.

I would almost bet my entire collection of bunnies that this album will be seen at top 5 on the billboard list the first week.

I am not gonna compare Chinese Democracy to the orginal GNR, I think both bands are great in their own way. People are ignorant though that claim Axl is GNR as if he wrote all the timeless riffs and guitar solos. GNR were made up of 5 great musicians who brought brilliance from all sides.

This version of GNR can also be great and I fully expect them to be great. Chinese Democracy won’t be Appetite, I think it will be as good in its own different way. I cant wait to hear this and hopefully real Rock will come back and kick the shit out of these poser wanna be’s that are dominating the charts now.

all i have to say is that if u hear the rock am ring performance which is on youtube its was phenomanaland inperticular nighttrain which was brilliant. can’t waith for the album

D | 10/19/2006, 5:25 pm EST

Rudy, Axl isn’t Bret The Hitman Hart.

rube | 10/19/2006, 5:26 pm EST

Aaron D, things are only as relevant as one makes it to be. So yeah if his dig it, it doesn’t matter if you don’t. Axl is anything but a parody of his formal self, clearly he’s moved on and ahead. He’s a normal healthy weight and stature. Those aren’t cornrows, they’re braids. Even if he was fat, bald etc. it don’t matter, its about the music, not who’s playing it, just how it sounds.

Mudville | 10/19/2006, 6:13 pm EST

I am in my mid 30s and would like to see this album be great as much as anybody. At one time GnR were a powerful and very entertaining band. However, for some people to make Axle out to be some kind of messiah who is here to save music seems absurd. A lot of people out there sound as if they have been frozen in time. To totally dismiss todays young artist as posers, wannabes, and no talents is unfair. It makes you all sound as closed minded as our parents who claimed that they don’t make music like they use to.

phoenix | 10/19/2006, 6:26 pm EST

The only reason he is releasing this album & touring is because he’s out of cash. He is being sued by the art dealer in California because he did not have enough funds to pay for the Andy Wharhol painting of John Lennon. He has sold his Ferrari and let his long time body-guard go, all to save money. Rich people don’t want to go back to being poor. Anyone who is really a “musical genius” & has a recording studio at his demand wouldn’t be sitting around for years not making music. He would be compelled. But in spite of what I just wrote, I am a fan & will be buying this new album whenever it appears.

Joe | 10/19/2006, 8:34 pm EST

the album is gonna be great, the greatest, GN’R is back and is gonna rock. Long live to Guns N’ Roses

Aaron D. | 10/19/2006, 9:33 pm EST

Axl may be back, but Guns N’ Roses has been dead for over a decade now. And since when did Sebastian Bach become a reputable source for anything but VH1 commentary? I’m supposed to take HIS word for it that Axl’s new stuff is great? What has he done lately?

It’s not that I want the album to be bad, but the way I see it, the odds aren’t in Axl’s favor. If it’s the rock epiphany everyone wants it to be, then fine, I’ll eat my words and rock out with my cock out.

when was the last time we heard some decent, lush, and exelent ROCK!?!? oh that’s right GUNS N’ ROSES!!!!

Some of you dudes need a mic check. If you loved Bach, and Rose back in the day, you will love this show. Both these bands have some of the best musicians in rock right now. Bach went thru hell and back to re-invent himself vocally, and I heard him and he fuckin rips. Plus he helped Axl get his chords in order and trust me if you had a blast at any ozzfest in the past. This show is a can’t miss. Who gives a fuck what Rose owes, he is still money behind the mic. How many real rockers ever did 4 broadway shows? Bach did.
I fuckin hate dudes who dont have a clue.

Laurens from Indonesia | 10/19/2006, 11:04 pm EST

Rumors are that CD will be a remix of AFD featuring all these guest musicians. Like a tribute record.

Dyan | 10/19/2006, 11:10 pm EST

Hey Aaron,

You have some nerve what have you done with your life so far. When was the last time you packed an area, became a music legend, or a sex symbol. Axl may not have been the nicest guy, but frontman you would be hard pressed to find better when he was on he was untouchable. Same for Sebastian however, Sebastian has always been cool to his fans and has never let them down. Shame on you, you sound like a jealous person and I bet you have every right to be, when was the last time thousands of women drive hundreds of miles and spent money to watch you do a damn thing. I have a copy of Axl and Sebastian on the cover of Rolling Stone please let me know when we can expect to see your mug on the publication!!

Aaron D. | 10/20/2006, 12:15 am EST

So I’m seriously to believe that an album that has been gestating since the 90’s will be a relevant rock record? I’m in need of a rock revolution as much as the next guy, but I won’t delude myself either.

Aaron = Jackass | 10/20/2006, 4:40 am EST

As someone else mentioned, you’re pretty ignorant if you think CD will suck. And no, I’m not some delusional Axl worshipper. I realize he was a complete d*ck back in the day, but I’m also NOT a sheep who really does believe everything the media tells me.

At any rate, perhaps you should wait for the album to come out and listen to it instead of talking sh*t beforehand. “Better,” “There Was A Time,” “Madagascar,” and “The Blues” are better than every single one of Velvet Revolver’s from Contraband. And I like Contraband; I just realize that it’s just a wannabe Appetite for Destruction with some lame hair metal-esque ballads on it (like “Fall To Pieces”).

Franki Roxx | 10/20/2006, 4:58 am EST

who the fuck said axl was short of cash?! pheonix fucker? somethin like that.

dude, you’re outta your mind. if you believe that axl rose is short of cash, you’re a bit fuckin simple. he owns guns n roses, and making a new album and touring isnt just a way to make more money, if you had any creativity at all, you’d understand why he’s doing it. he’s a musician, a songwriter, making music and touring is what he does. dick.

Problem is the album has reached mythical proportions without being released.

Only a masterpiece which revitalises the whole rock genre can live up to the hype behind this.

No one with aany sense gives a shit about GNR anymore. They have SO played out. Axl is an idiot. Who cares about this album, I sure do not.
Listen to Guided By Voices if you want to rock kiddies.

VR and GUns | 10/20/2006, 2:35 pm EST

Look you dicks. VR is off the hook!! The new GNR line up is off the hook is well. A great band split into two power houses so feel lucky we still have slash, duff and scott rocking us as well as AXL and his crew. The new GNR line up is sickly talented. So FU talented haters!!

Wizzie | 10/20/2006, 5:46 pm EST

I’m so excited about Chinese Democracy! I can’t wait for it!!! I don’t know how anyone can say GNR are crap nowadays or Axl is a idiot or he can’t sing … HELLO people, Axl is what has kept GNR alive and ok yes some may say he’s destroyed the good name of Guns n’ Roses but have they seen the new line up recently? THEY ROCK!
The legendary line up with Slash, Duff and Matt were amazing and will never be forgotten but they’re now in another brilliant band – VR. So they have they’re band and Axl has his and they are both fantastic so no one should be complaining.
And how can anyone say they’re not bothered about this album? Any proper GNR fan would be bursting with excitement or at least curious. In fact, I think almost everyone would be curious, whethert they are a GNR fan or not, considering how long it has taken to make and the cost … Wouldn’t you be wanting to hear why it has taken so long?
Anyway …
I love GNR! Always have and always will no matter what happens!
I’ve heard Chinese Democracy is supposed to be as good as AFD, if not better!
I’m counting down the days now! :D :D:D

ME | 10/20/2006, 9:40 pm EST

the fact is that Chinese Democracy will debut at #1, they already have the #1 spot in ticket sales over the rolling stones & aerosmith, and the best part of it all is that even the haters will have to buy the album on sheer morbid curiousity.

But for all the negative stuff you all have to say your still here saying it on this post and that means your still intrested in all the new G”N”R after all these years.Doesn’t that make you all idiots!!!!!!

I have heard Sorry as well. A “Rocket Queen-esque” piece of greatness.

Catcher In The Rye | 10/31/2006, 7:37 pm EST

No, you have not heard ‘Sorry’. It starts off somewhat slow, with a low guitar and then Axl’s vocals kick in. At least, that is how it was before the final mix – I’ve yet to hear the ‘final’ version. The version played at the party MIGHT have been the final version, I’ve not yet touched base with Axl and see.

I have a very, very close and personal relationship with Merck, GnR’s manager. He takes very good care of me if I promise to keep people online from discussing the band. It’s part of their promotional strategy… nobody hears anything, no release date, and half empty stadiums on the tour. It’s all part of a master plan, Okay? Just trust us.

Until then, kindly shut the fuck up and don’t discuss any GnR related stories.

I’m OUTTA here, suckas.

Well GnR “fans”, chalk another one up for the master of cancellations, Axl. The show scheduled for tonight in Portland Me has been aborted. A local radio station reports that Axl “could not make it”. Take it from someone who was working at the show, his fucking bus was parked on the sidewalk next to the venue at 11:00AM. The story backstage was that a local ordinance prohibited drinking on stage, so Axl said, “then fuck you we ain’t playing tonight.” Guess the “fans” will have to wait another 15 fucking years for him to decide to show up and earn the respect they have given him for no reason. On a related note, papers were filed in the district court down the street for Axl’s request to officially change his name to “W. Axl I don’t give a fuck about those fucking piss-ants who bought my albums and bought tickets to my cancelled shows because I’m a whiny-ass pussy Rose.” Rumor has it he will go by the shorter version “Pussy”.

And also – Lay off Jarmo. Without him, all you’ve got is the wannabes like mygnr.

chaz | 11/12/2006, 10:49 pm EST

so, catcher…assuming you are the real deal…are we actually going to see this album before christmas?

Jarmo | 11/13/2006, 1:51 pm EST

Notice nobody is posting anymore? That is because I BANNED them all, except for Catch it in the Anus, he’s got the correct attitude. I difused the negativity. Merck is going to give me a cookie, right after I orally service him.

/jarmo

The album by the end of this year, I do not know. But, as I’ve said – this will be worth the wait and I’ve only heard rough mixes from the album. Imagine the final cuts sounding about 100 times better.

CHINESE CONSPIRACY

Catcher In The Rye | 12/4/2006, 5:13 pm EST

Nov 21st was not the release date. It was a bullshit rumour, just like every Tuesday was this year. Do not believe the bullshit. Only believe those who are credible. Wait for the band to issue their statement. Soon perhaps.

Joe | 12/19/2006, 11:55 pm EST

Looks like you were right Catcher in the Rye. Axl made his announcement shortyly after you posted that comment.
