  • In a totally miraculous and thrilling development, Iggy and the Stooges are recording their follow-up to Raw Power (released in 1973) with Steve Albini in Chicago. Both Asheton brothers (Scott and Ron) have joined Iggy and bassist Mike Watt, and the rumor is running around that Brendan Benson is making a guest appearance. Check out Watt’s hysterical stream-of-consciousness rantings about what they’ve been up to here.
  • The Band tribute album, Endless Highway: The Music of the Band, is coming out January 30th, and finally has a set track-listing, featuring covers by, among others, Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket and the Allman Brothers Band. Get the full list after the jump.
  • Hyper-selective V2 records have signed Alkaline Trio; the band claims their departure from Vagrant was drama-free.
  • Check out Jessica Simpson’s vibrato, hair extensions and teary girl-power message in the painfully sappy video for single “I Belong to Me.” [via Stereogum]

Who wants to hear a bunch of covers of The Band. They were an original and unique group. The inventiveness of their style and playing made them special. Why copy it with some 2nd rate wanna-be’s. Buy the original CD’s and get the royalties to the musicians who deserve them. Tribute or music company rip-off?

i agree…i love the band. they have some very emotional, powerful music. at least they chose a really good band, if anything.

With the songs in the hands of certain artists with similar styles and values as The Band – a tribute album such as this is welcome.

Now if they were going to do it featuring Jessica Simpson, Justin Timberlake, Gnarls Barkley or Red Hot Chili Peppers – that’s another story.

The quality of artists assembled here is something I think that the Bands should be very proud of.

I’m looking forward to hearing it.

One of the best ideas of late! A great band, a great heritage and a great foundig father (Bob Dylan). It gives me goose bumbs to see Jakob on the set list to represent his dad’s past but I believe he should have been on there.

I heard the Brothers do “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” at Bonnaroo last year and it was fantastic.

truant | 10/12/2006, 12:02 pm EST

Wow.. another tribute to a band that is thirty years old and no one cares about. When is the Starland Vocal Band tribute gonna come out?

Andy | 10/12/2006, 12:08 pm EST

Truant, if you think the Band doesn’t matter, you are a dumbfuck.

Jake Burns | 10/12/2006, 12:35 pm EST

The Stooges return and we are talking about the Band and Black Crowes?

Love cup | 10/12/2006, 12:37 pm EST

Andy are you P.M.S. ing? Turn that frown upside down Andy! :)

Love cup | 10/12/2006, 12:39 pm EST

Iggy rocks. Finally some real punk music!!

Tribute albums suck, even if it’s for a great band, such as The Band. Remember The Doors and Hendrix’s tributes? Pure shit.

Bob | 10/12/2006, 1:37 pm EST

Iggy’s too old. However, it would be funny to see him get all coked up and have a heart attack on stage.

Ne-Gro | 10/12/2006, 1:43 pm EST

You can’t censor Ne-Gro.

Fathoms | 10/12/2006, 3:50 pm EST

I only listen to tribute albums in ragge form.

The Velvet Underground gave us the essence and core of punk and Iggy and The Stooges refined that mix to bring it to its utmost brutality.
The New York Dolls took The Stooges blend and added a dash of glitter and glam with a little bit o’ Chuck Berry thrown in for good measure.
These bands are the godfathers of punk and anytime one of them decides to ressurect and rock us again then we must rejoice.
The soul and heart and rock n’ roll are in short supply these days so let the vets teach and remind us all of how its supposed to be done.

the band is good, but overrated, in my 100% correct opinion. carry on rivulets carry on…

SATAN | 10/13/2006, 12:12 pm EST
