Playlist of the Day: Soundtrack to the Nuclear Apocalypse

10/11/06, 8:00 am EST

Naughty North Korea and its fearless leader Kim Jong-il (at left with the snazzy shades) reeeeeally pissed off the United Nations and all those who love being alive by announcing they tested their nukes on Sunday. The implications are manifold and make us moribund, but — really — what can we do? Rather than mope, we’re assembling a World War Three playlist and hoping to finish before we turn into atomic dust. Care to contribute?

  • “Atomic Punk,” Van Halen
  • “Fuck Armageddon . . . This Is Hell,” Bad Religion
  • “Goin’ to California,” Led Zeppelin
  • “Fire and Rain,” James Taylor
  • “It’s the End Of The World (As We Know It),” R.E.M.

Extra homework: Defense Secretary Rumsfeld personally helped North Korea build its nukes. Pick the bonus track.

Peace On Earth
Beautiful Day
Stuck in a Moment

Vertigo
Love and Peace (Or Else)
Yahweh

The list is huge….oh as a bonus track for both Kim and Donny, throw in a Beatles cover…Happiness is a Warm Gun (Mother superior jump the gun…/)

Dylan’s “Masters Of War” should be for Rumsfeld and his entire crew. For shame……..

For Kim Jong Il, though:
“Aenima” by Tool
“Life During Wartime” by Talking Heads
“I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier Mama I Don’t Wanna Die” by John Lennon
“Bomber” by Motorhead

And we must understand that the only reason he’s doing this is because he’s so very, very, very ronery……

Hey! And how come that total prick Bush threatened to bomb Pakistan back to the stone age if they didn’t ally with the US after 9/11, but we just tremble in our Texas boots and say “you are a very bad man Mr. Il” when there is an actual threat?! Let’s be a little ironic. The most appropiate music for an apocalipsis is the complete discography of Celine Dion.
And Donald Rumsfeld should be punished by listening Kevin Federline’s album for the eternity.
