Pete Doherty Watch: Babyshambles Tour Cancelled, Pete Still Sober, Still Getting Married

10/10/06, 6:17 pm EST

THE LATEST: The news that Pete’s band Babyshambles has canceled what dates remained in their UK tour comes as a bit of a shock, only because Pete so rarely makes any remotely self-preserving moves. Word is that Pete and his people realized the rocker got back to work too quickly post-rehab and have decided to pull him out of the touring spotlight. An EMI spokesman reportedly said, “Peter embarked on this arduous and high profile tour too soon after his discharge and still needs time to recover from rehab.” Interesting theory.
Fortunately, recent news suggests the rocker is still capable of producing juicy news, even if he is sober. Pete’s uncle reports that Kate Moss and Pete are already engaged and are planning to host a wedding/birthday extravaganza in Ibiza on January 16th, which will be Kate Moss’ 33rd birthday. And they might be coming here for their honeymoon! It’s all very exciting.

what a douche. stop wasting our and his time.

Will Fearless | 10/10/2006, 7:36 pm EST

If Pete want’s to make some more drug money, he should reform the Libertines and clear up all his visa troubles in England so he can tour in the U.S. By the Way, the profile RS did on Doherty about 6 months was the most entertaining piece of rock journalism I’ve ever read.

Anyone else sick of this?

TimeforHeros | 10/10/2006, 8:02 pm EST

Pete dates Kate Moss, fronts an amazing band, and lives life to the fullest. What is everybody’s problem?

And RS . . . your coverage sickens me.

It’s nice to see Pete and Kate are picking up where Whitney and Bobby left off.

how can you call doherty a douche? do you really understand what the guy is going through right now? the guy is fighting for his life, and he definitely makes better music than anyone on this page whos knockin him will ever even dream of.

Rolling Stone = People Magazine.

Read Paste instead.

Andy, I looked at paste mag. Its for old people, probably like you. Get a caftan and a transistor radio and listen to an oldie station.

Pete’s not a douche. He’s not even a poet. The funniest thing on earth (apart from Gordon Brown having a few e’s slipped into his drink at a labour party conference) is that so many obviously semi-literate teenagers claim to know that Pete is a great poet when they have never read a poem in their lives.

Kyle | 10/11/2006, 12:48 pm EST

Is Pete’s Uncle a reliable source… oh wait, who the hell cares.

I thought Pete was a waste of space…until I started checking out the music. Isn’t that what it is supposed to be about?

Rolling Stone is turning into a gossip rag mag. Don’t believe Elizabeth Goodman is the judge of all. Pete can’t help it if she thinks his every move is newsworthy. Check out the music and let the rag mags do what they do.

Who gives a flying heap of elephant dung what this guy does?

His music is terrible, so stop giving him press.

“Pete dates Kate Moss, fronts an amazing band, and lives life to the fullest. What is everybody’s problem?”

Lives life to the fullest? Bullshit. I’ll hold out hope for a more fulfilling existance than his. Not that I have any qualms with him morally, or as a musician. I like the shambles, but as far as I can tell he’s mired in the same life style as Jim Morrison.

Truthfully, Pete Doherty is a guy who made good records, arguably, with the Libertines. Then he became a smack-head and a crack-head. And now all of the indie-snobs talking about, “Living the Dream,” can call him their hero so they can all get coked up, listen to songs, stare at hotel walls and tell everyone else in life that, “You don’t get it.” A sad lot actually.

Mythbuster | 10/12/2006, 11:53 am EST

Living a cliche. Sad and tragic, and people buy this shit.

No wonder our soceity is so fucked up.

People with drug problems need HELP. Once you’re addicted to that kinda stuff, it’s KINDA hard to give up.

So why don’t you heartless dicks go moan about something else, cause you obviously don’t give a shit about anyone but yourself.

everyone makes mistakes. Pete’s is that he tried drugs a couple of times and got addicted.
You’re addicted the 3rd time you do heroin.
Have you ever heard of Prochaskas sprial model? they say that in order to reach the top of the spiral, you go round and round, and people tend to relapse many times before they manage to stay clean, not matter if it’s drugs like heroin or cocaine, or nicotine. Or whether it’s if you want to diet.
So go get a clue.

I can’t be bothered with anything recently. I’ve just been sitting around doing nothing. Today was a loss. I just don’t have much to say. Nothing seems worth thinking about.
