Sienna Miller Has No Love for Pittsburgh, City Retaliates

10/6/06, 3:02 pm EST

In the current issue of Rolling Stone, “Hot Actress” Sienna Miller sits down with our very own contributing editor Jenny Eliscu and talks smack about Pittsburgh, the city in which she is currently filming indie flick The Mysteries of Pittsburgh. Miller refers to the town as “Shitsburgh” and goes on to say to Jenny: “Can you believe this is my life? Will you pity me when you’re back in your funky New York apartment and I’m still in Pittsburgh? I need to get more glamorous films.” Perhaps part of Ms. Millers point is that they have nothing better to do in Pittsburgh than worry about such comments, but regardless, she’s piqued the ire of the locals.

A local Pittsburgh paper did what can only be described as an in-depth piece on Miller’s hatred, featuring a slew of comments from Jenny, who, for her part, has no problems with the town. Apparently Miller has been on a break in London for several weeks, but returns to the ‘Burgh today and will be filming until October 17th. We’re picturing eggings and other forms of intense public shaming. What should the citizens of Pittsburgh do with Sienna Miller?

Having all the fans wear white for a ‘white out’ when the team will be wearing black and the OPPONENT will be wearing white.

I'm Just Saying | 5/5/2009, 9:21 am EST

Crying about hats being thrown on the ice after a hat trick, which Crosby did last night, is REALLY lame… If anyone is getting swept it’s the guys in yellow and black that somehow make those colors look feminine, I’m just saying…

AMEN! | 5/4/2009, 2:59 pm EST

So we’ve established what Pittsburgh has to offer the rest of America/the world. Steelers football, ketchup, steel, Flashdance and All the Right Moves. You guys should be proud. Proud people are the ones that have the hardest time accepting defeat. Crosby is awfully well groomed for a hockey player, I’m just saying. Respect thy gangsta’!

DBR96A | 5/4/2009, 11:07 am EST

Now that I think about it, it’s gonna be very hard for the Penguins to win in 4 games, seeing how we just lost one. Damn, I probably should have spoken as quickly as I did. I was right about Pittsburgh, though, since 2000, the city has become much shittier than I originally thought. In fact, all the jackals that pass through don’t even UNF the place anymore. They can’t distinguish jackal territory from non-jackal territory. Sidney Crosby is getting put asleep tonight. Caps in six, too much fire power for Fleury. Also, the whole team was up late last night, reclining on a bed of dicks.

Steel City | 5/2/2009, 9:22 pm EST

I don’t know why that one guy is so proud that Pittsburgh made steel. America just need a shithole region to build steel where they wouldn’t care about pollution repercussion. As a result, today pittsburgh is one of the worst cities in the country when it comes to air quality, and its residents who breath that shit in are retarded. That’s why pittsburghers only brag about the steelers because that’s the only good thing to come out of that city. Having the steelers is nice, but for having such a great team you have to live in the city known as “shitsburgh.”

DBR96A | 5/2/2009, 2:24 am EST

I’mJustSaying, did you ever consider that maybe your grandfather went to war because he loved the United States? Did you also consider that even if he disliked Pittsburgh, he left sometime between 1940 and 1945? It’s 2009. I’m sure the city has changed since the 1940s. I’m also sure it’s changed since 1983, when ‘Flashdance’ and ‘All The Right Moves’ were filmed. Hell, I’m sure Pittsburgh has changed since 2000! Actually, I know it has — I’ve witnessed it myself. Penguins in four.

I'mJustSaying... | 4/29/2009, 12:37 pm EST

My grandfather grew up in Pittsburgh. WWII broke out. He was faced with getting shot at by Nazi’s or staying in Pittsburgh. He chose the Nazi’s, helped win the war, moved to DC, and never looked back. I’m just saying…

Caps in 6. It’s more fun celebrating on the other teams home ice so you can laugh at their crying fans.

AMEN! | 4/29/2009, 12:17 pm EST

I have been referring to Pittsburgh as Shittsburgh for quite some time. I assumed I was clever and made it up, but Sienna’s sexy ass must have snuck into my subconcious. The city sucks. It’s inhabitants suck. That’s why everywhere you go, there’s someone from Pittsburgh, because they couldn’t take it any more. I really loved the moronic post that Pittsburgh is the most important city in the 20th Century. Dude, if you dumb shmucks didn’t produce steel, someone else would have. And plenty of time has elapsed for you to come up with a better contribution than ketchup. For god’s sake, we should put you poor bastards out of your misery. Why don’t you get together with Cleveland and go bowling? Fuck your football team, however many rivers of stench, Caps are gonna oust you shining bitches in 5 games. Sidney Crosby is a gigantic vagina on ice skates.

Historical City | 4/17/2009, 10:36 am EST

I think everybody has to realize that Pittsburgh (the people of Pittsburgh) spent well over 100 years building the infrastructure of our Country… Got it’s face dirty more than any city in the world and probably was a huge reason why our military was able to save Europe from speaking German throughout. Arguably the most important city in the United States of America in the 20th Century. That is a Fact. Yeah.. we’re not New York… Pittsburgh just built it.

DJ | 4/9/2009, 5:57 pm EST

You know what I love? Idiots that go around trashing the place they live in. If you don’t like where you live, then leave! My husband is from the ‘Burgh. He thinks it’s the best place in the world. I can understand his love. I’ve never been there, but I understand the idea of the town. It’s very much like where I live. AND, I’m a huge Steelers fans. That previous comment about them was clearly from some lame-o NE fan that can’t stand they can’t beat us without cheating…but, I digress.

Stop trashing places you’ve never been or trashing the place that is giving you a place to live. Respect where you are. If you live in Texas, don’t shit on it and go around calling Texans hicks and saying how ugly it is here. Leave! You get to have a job and a home here. No one likes you trashing their town just as much as all of you probably hate to hear immigrants trashing America. You tell them to “get out”. Well, those that are from the place you’re staying in will tell you the same thing.

Sienna - you’re just an uppity, wanna’ be actress that needs to get a dose of humility and be humbled. You don’t see me going to London and then going on and on about what a shithole it is. You’re no better than anyone else in the world, just b/c you used to be married to someone famous.

Serge, NY | 4/9/2009, 10:01 am EST

I have lived in Pittsburgh and it is a very rainly, cloudy, depressing, boring & unglamorous place. You can’t blame someone for speaking the truth. Pittsburgh natives are very ignorant and biased when it comes to their dreadful city. It’s a 3rd rate city in the middle of nowhere. Western PA people need a dose of reality check.

The Voice of Reason | 4/8/2009, 1:20 pm EST

It seems odd to pass such harsh judgment on a city which one all but admits to knowing nothing about. How can she possibly give an informed opinion if she’s remained confined to her hotel room? The insult, thus, is uninformed and therefore irrelevant.

Let’s face it: she doesn’t happen to like the city, while others do. It’s a perfectly wonderful city and is among my favorite places to visit. That’s my opinion. Just as one can discount her opinion, one can also disregard mine.

I suggest that you stop by the city some time and form your own opinion. You’d be surprised to know how much is constantly going on in Pittsburgh. One just needs to know where to look.

I advise you to check the local City Paper.

Hotchickfrmdaburgh | 3/29/2009, 10:07 pm EST

I’m a Pittsburgher so I understand why the people of Pittsburgh are bad about her comment. By the way what movies she played in? I never heard of her before this. Pittsburgh is a very boring city if people did there research they would have known that this city is has the third highest population of old people beside Florida being #1 and AZ. being #2, so now you see why there’s no excitement here. I love Pittsburgh for many reasons: not a lot of crime, good schools (universities), affordable housing, good transportation, world renowned medical centers & hospitals and the Steelers…lol…Who really care what a no name actress thinks anyway! Oh yeah and all Pittsburghers don’t sound like “rednecks” or are uneducated. I’m working on a Master’s degree and I wear designer clothing and handbags too, so there are some hot up to date people in the burgh!

jack | 3/14/2009, 3:50 am EST

worst thing about pittsburgh?
the dumbest and most annoying sports fans in the world. they wear player jerseys like that means it gives them some personel street cred with players who could care less about them. then most of them are critical of a qb who has won two super bowls and is clearly one of the top 3 in the nfl.
the dumbass yinzers also talk like they gargle with rocks and sh*t.
and finally, they are huge supporters of jimmy friggen buffet!
i won’t even bother to say,get a life, learn about about new music or stop burning your couches in the streets, because they are too stupid to understand any of that.

objective | 3/10/2009, 10:59 pm EST

hmm…you know it’s funny that people have probably been arguing back and forth over Pittsburgh’s quality for years now. Pittsburgh’s just gonna be Pittsburgh, just like NY is just gonna be NY. I’m from Pittsburgh (Carnegie, live in SC now), and I have a fuzzy feeling in my stomach, because I know, whether or not it’s a shithole, it’s always gonna be there. I’ll always be able to visit it and see my friends and do all the shit I like to do when I’m in town. So diss the place if you want, it’s not goin’ the fuck anywhere. Honestly, I appreciate that fact over the city itself. It’s like somebody said earlier, it’s a unique city, kind of like a cult city. I just want Pittsburgh to be known as a humble city with un-pretentious people. Because that’s really what it is. And trust me, I can’t stand when people over-defend the city as much as I hate when people dump on us. Just take us for what we are. Pittsburgh. A 50/50, average joe, American city.

I can see what happened here– no one kissed her butt (or even recognized her) while she was walking around town, so she decided Pittsburg’s “backwards.” I can’t see anyone in Pittsburgh caring if a British actress happened to be filming there for a few weeks, or treating her like a star, which is probably what she is used to and expected.

I used to live in Pittsburgh, it’s a good, unpretentious hard-working city with great libraries, art museums and sports teams.

I don’t think it’s Pittsburgh that sucks I think it’s the whole fucking state of Pennsylvania that sucks. Unfortunately I live in Shitsburgh so I have to deal with it. Plus…why the hell do people say “the people in Pitt are so nice”??
Where the fuck are these people, I wanna meet them. Everyone here is retarded!

Pittsburgh is my favorite place to vacation. When I’m not working or educating myself I travel back to Pittsburgh. Grew up in Pittsburgh. By far one of the coolest cities I’ve ever been. I lived in Washington, Oregon, Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado. Traveled all over. Great institutions of higher learning. Rich history and architecture. Museums, art galleries. Green building. PROUD WORKING PEOPLE. It’s a shame that some people are to ignorant to appreciate the important things in life.

EducatedPittsburgher | 1/16/2008, 7:32 pm EST

Wow. Wow is all i have to say for all of the comments from these unfortunate Pittsburghers who have obviously never left their county, or they would subsequently have a completely different, not so staunch standpoint, on what “exists outside the safe borders of their home city.” I have traveled abroad, lived abroad, and attend one of the 3 top-notch universities in Pittsburgh, as does my wife, and this place is severely lacking in several aforementioned criteria. If you think this place is/you are top-notch, I have a suggestion. Leave for awhile. See what’s out there. Enjoy the vast array of different cultures and experiences this planet has to offer, and as soon as you set foot in the good ol’ Pittsburgh International (oxymoron?) Airport, you’ll understand. I unfortunately was raised here, but I keep that experience as a positive delimiter to compare what life can really be like; amazing…if you leave:)

A Pennsylvania Man | 10/13/2007, 1:52 pm EST

To the idiot that says western Pennsylvania consists of a bunch of “ignorant, country bumpkins” or whatever you said, go to San Francisco or LA or some other liberal city. There you can be treated to “progressive, sophisticated” folk who have every STD in the book, have sex out in the street with those “gay pride parades” while we so-called “Country Bumpkins” are living twice as long as they are because we actually understand the importance of morals and standards.

By embracing what makes a society work, we’re suddenly “backwards” and “ignorant”? You’re ignorant for believing everything your college professor told you. The super left wing ideas that you embrace aren’t much different from a mix of what brought down Rome and primitive Upper Paleolothic free sex.

What do you all think of the Queen’s new movie, Factory Girl? I’m a huge Edie Sedgewick fan, so I feel a bit invested in the whole fiasco. Let me just say I’ll share my opinion with this post from www.edienation.com

“It must be real”
Posted on Wednesday 29 November 2006

Edie was a filmmaker, a collaborator and artist with other underground and experimental filmmakers at a time when making a non-Hollywood film was almost a revolutionary act. Like you she was young at a time when a wave of technological advancements– new video camera, audio recorders and film cameras– were putting power in the hands of the people to tell their own stories. This is a pursuit she believed in fiercely. She said often to fellow adventurers in her filmmaking pursuits, “It must be real, if it isn’t real, there is no movie.” On the eve of the release of a HIGHLY fictionalized Hollywood account of Edie’s life, we hope you will join us in our Internet and video experiment of making real screen tests of real people. WE know you can tell the difference, as she would have wanted, between what is real and what is not.

-Melissa Painter

“I do love Alice in Wonderland though. That’s something I think I could do very well. Don’t you think we ought to do an A.W.? A.W.’s Alice in Wonderland? Andy Warhol’s Alice in Wonderland? A.W. stands for a lot of things, I understand. It, uh, it would make a fantastic film. So I wanted somebody to write the script for it, in a modern sense. Think it would be the most marvelous movie in the world. If it could be done. Don’t you think? Really I don’t think they’ve done one since they did a Walt Disney one- which isn’t really doing it. In a sense it is, but not in the way it really should be done. What’s needed right now is a real scene. I mean not just cartoon characters but the actual character of people because there’s so many fantastic people that you might as well use the people.”

– EDIE 1965

“To be an underground filmmaker… one felt that you were engaged in forbidden activity, which of course lead us to Andy and 47th St and the factory because Andy was hosting this whole feeling of rebellion in image where we could all participate in doing things that were ridiculous and absurd…and so to get a bunch of people who all feel that the sky’s the limit to start being able to do crazy ridiculous image with Andy…

[John, what did it feel like to be in a movie that Warhol directed?] Well, it felt like you were talking your pants off. It was embarrassing. You wondered what were you doing? Why are you doing this? And yet at the same time you knew… You didn’t know then, but to think about it now, I mean imagine you are there and there’s a hundred million dollars worth of art lying around on the floor, and these people fooling around with cameras. Andy, and I’m there with him doing the same thing, and there’s Edie, and we’re all there doing this. And so on the one hand there’s the rebellion, because you know you’re not supposed to, and on the other hand you know that its really really important, and yet its just going to disappear. So that was a peculiar feeling. ”

Local Yinzer | 10/28/2006, 10:56 am EST

For someone to make those sorts of comments, shouldn’t you be something? Pittsburgh, like every city, has its local charm - abhorred by outsiders but cherished by the locals. Like every city, it does have its showcase pieces and the dark underbelly. Calling it Sh*tsburgh goes a bit far. There is a world beyond London, New York, and LA. She should gain a better appreciation for it if she ever wants to gain popular support and become a legitimate actor. If not, all she will be remembered as is Jude Law’s slam piece. Don’t insult the hands that feed you, because this movie probably would not have been too big outside of western Pennsylvania.

If you really think pittsburgh is so great, then ask yourself why this godforsaken city is filled with only locals. No one wants to move to the pitts of hell. the majority of pittsburghians think there city is so great because they have never been West of Ohio or East of Altoona. Get a clue shitsburgh

CT | 10/24/2006, 5:37 pm EST

She is entitled to her opinion, however crudely put. And yes there are certain sections of Pittsburgh I would advise people to avoid. But I’m sure there would be the same response from the locals if she had insulted New York or any other city. As a lifelong resident I’ve encountered people that could easily be described as narrow-minded and backward, even though Pittsburgh, like New York, tends to vote Democrat, which has always puzzled me. I’d like to add that many Pittsburghers are trying considerably to improve their city, like the late Mayor Bob O’Connor. I sincerely hope that someday we can be on par with the bigger cities of the country but I still like Pittsburgh the way it is now, with all its flaws. It could be alot worse and it has been.

Anyone who says Pittsburgh sucks is a boring person. If you expect every place to be like New York and LA or whatever, what is the point of traveling? Sorry we don’t have a million trendy nightclubs with $20 covers and Louis Vuitton stores all over the place, but there are many ways to have fun here. Every city has its own charm, and pompous extravagance is not part of ours. It’s the people that make Pittsburgh great!

Yo “infamous actress Sienna”, go watch the movie FLASH DANCE that was made here in Pittsburgh. Yup all the girls here in Pittsburgh are as HOT as all the girls in that movie, because most of the girls in the movie were from Pittsburgh as extras. Times sure have changed. Your bony ass, fat face, would never have gotten hired as an extra in the movie FLASH DANCE.

They just showed on the news that while filming “Mysteries of Pittsburgh” here, they had to hire a “body double” for you during the Cocktail Party Scene because your acting was so bad. They replaced your scenes with a REAL BLONDE violinist named Olga, that everyone on the set said was WAY HOTTER looking than you!

For those of you are are stupid enough to waste your money to see this movie in 2007, watch the “Cocktail Party Scene” and checkout Sienna’s “Body Double / Stand-in” playing the violin.

Now if only they would replace all your other scenes with Olga, I would be the first in line to buy a ticket, when the movie is released in 2007.

Gwen | 10/18/2006, 1:21 pm EST

When I heard about this, I had to think really hard about who she even was, as did my boyfriend. We are both huge movie buffs, but she’s such a shitty actress that she’s barely memorable.

Second-rate actresses like her NEED to talk trash about people and places to make themselves more important than they are.

Sorry, Sienna, you just aren’t important enough to pull off the whole diva thing. I guess talking trash and getting cheated on are your only means of getting into the headlines.

siennagriller | 10/17/2006, 5:16 pm EST

Reality check! Get some perspective Sienna - you are no better than anyone else regardless of how rich or pretty or young you are. Do you pity your self? Boo hoo. Work in a real factory, Facotry Girl. I will never pay for your movies, but I will copy them!

What an idiot | 10/17/2006, 9:25 am EST

It’s everyone’s right to have an opinion of this city, but what an idiot! Why would you say that when you still had to stay in this city? Not to mention the fact that you want people to watch your movie and not piss off the directors; bad publicity for them. And who the hell is Sienna Miller? Never heard of her or seen her. I’m glad that bouncer did what he did. Who is she to get special treatment? Who cares what she says. If you like Pittsburgh, it shouldn’t matter. She’s just small minded, petty, and immature.

In 5 Years ... | 10/13/2006, 6:49 pm EST

Who cares what some ditzy, pinot guzzling barfly says? When her looks go, so will her career. Then it’ll be “Sienna WHO”?

Correction to minneapolis | 10/13/2006, 2:28 pm EST

Make that Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio as the cradle of professional football.

Also, being from Minnesota I have always taken a real interest in hockey. The Penguins have produced their share of highlights over the years. Lemieux, second to Gretzky. Yagr, undeniable. Crosby, can’t wait to see him blossom. One more thing if anyone cares about my opinion. Roberto Clemente was the greatest of them all!

minneapolis | 10/13/2006, 2:19 pm EST

It’s all so entertaining. Both sides making good points. Sienna needs to show some sensibilities and courtesy. On the other hand, forgiveness is divine. And if we have a third hand, isn’t there a saying about any press is good press? Shitsburgh is kind of funny. Never heard such reference in all my years. And don’t feel so bad, the Twin Cities has its own lack of a robust nite life. Any girl over 29 hides out in her apartment or gym club. OR, if they do show up it is with 5 other girl friends. They sit at a table in a bar and laugh at everything any of them say, and NEVER look around. Why? Because they are all oh-so concerned about image, not their true well beings. They want us (guys) to think their lives are so fulfilling and complete and successful and happy, and they have no use for any pitiful stranger. They could be a 4, 5 or 6 on the silly “looks scale” but their actions speak they are a 10 and they are to be envied.

Ok, where was I? Pittsburgh. Oh I always hated Pittsburgh because of the Steelers. Yes, you had great teams in the 70’s, but don’t get all full of yourselves. They were not the greatest team or teams ever. I am not interested in your criteria for measuring this immeasurable point. Consider yourselves lucky as much as good. The Viking defenses and offenses and regular season records could match or surpass your own, but we are only looked upon as the loser of 4 super bowls. Ok, we cannot fight city hall. But this boasting and over emphasis on oneself is a tad loathsome.

Having said that, I bet Pittsburgh is not much different than us other second tier major cities. WE all have our plusses and minuses. WE all need to be grateful for what we have and not worry about the pettiness NYC or LA seems to want to exude. That phoniness or haughtiness does not sit well with God. STay humble.

Also, you did give us Perry Como and Arnold Palmer. Awesome. Lots of Italians, too. Great. And eastern Pennsylvania and Western Ohio has produced the most incredible number of great professional football players. We are humbled by that.

Beezus | 10/13/2006, 2:06 am EST

Sienna is obviously an actress and not a politician. While I commend her for expressing herself in a forthright manner, she needs to gain a bit of maturity and learn to employ a public persona that will not annoy people.

Uh oh | 10/12/2006, 10:41 pm EST

Even if you don’t care for a place, you don’t say things like THAT. In print yet. The makers of the film must be pretty darn annoyed. Unbelievable :-D

Jordan | 10/12/2006, 9:37 pm EST

Half these comments are from people who clearly have never been to Pittsburgh. I’m proud to call the ‘Burgh my hometown. It’s a beautiful town with some of the best food and restaurants in the country. The people there are awesome and are loyal to their hometown and everything about it. Anyone who claims it’s a dirty city is just assuming it is because of all the old steel mills. Sienna Miller made a big mistake insulting the town she’s making a movie about, because people in Pittsburgh NEVER forget. Hell, we still haven’t forgiven Sid Bream!

fellow pgh hater | 10/12/2006, 11:50 am EST

unfortunately i was born and raised in pgh, pgh sucks, its a very small minded town, w/ people who think there a being progressive but really arent, it’s one of the most racist cities in the country, there isnt any true culture and true love for the arts, no out of the box thinking, and the nitelife is horrible, and there are no cool places to shop for anything except millions of chain stores, sure there are tons of clubs, the carnegie museum, and the pgh cultural trust, etc etc, but the people that run these establishments are small minded ignorant-country people, so there for it is shitsburgh, i am an engineer for a top company, went to some of the best schools in the city, it really does suck- ,trust me

Yo GO CM! ~ from your IP, we see we have another faker from Public Eye Communications LTD claiming to be a ‘Burger. Yea you only “relocated to Pittsburgh a while ago” because you are one of Sienna Miller’s P.R. “handlers” here during the filming of “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh”.

Yup you will be “making arrangements to relocate again”, because you and Sienna Miller will be finished here on October 17, so you all can crawl back to London.

When are you IDIOTS from Public Eye Communications LTD going to realize that Pittsburgh is one of the Top 3 Computer Technology Centers in the United States and we can “see” who you “really” are here on the Internet when you pretend to be ‘Burgers.

Pittsburgh | 10/12/2006, 1:48 am EST

I’m grown and raised in Pittsburgh.. Believe me or not Pittsburgh has the good times and the bad times it is like any city in the United States. We are not high class like the California or New York or any of that she is use to. We are proud of what we can from.. People in Pittsburgh whether they are either rich or poor.. We make something of ourselves.. We make our life how we want it to be. we don’t have it handed to us on a sliver platter. But she needs to realize honey u are not doing HIGH CLASS FILMS like the other actress in Hollywood like Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Katheryn Zitta Johns, Sandra Bullock..Maybe she just needs to smile at the camera and not talk b/c it just makes her look bad.. If this was any other actor/actress they would be in the same boat…

GO CM! | 10/11/2006, 11:28 pm EST

I just relocated to Pittsburgh a while ago. I have been amazed at how bad this city sucks. I expected something much better. It’s so bad that I am making arrangements to relocate again. Sienna Miller just told the truth. It’s not personal. Maybe the people of pittsburgh should get out now and then…..oh yea open your eyes and think. Pittsburgh sucks…accept it!

Sadly for me living in Los Angeles, bitchy actresses are an every day hazzard.

eurotrash | 10/11/2006, 10:10 pm EST

it is quite amazing to me that an actress making a film called “mysteries of pittsburgh” would make the comments that she made! especially when she plays edie sedgewick, andy warhol’s muse, in her next movie — and andy was born in pittsburgh! hello, sienna! you just went to the warhol museum. i think that her comments show sienna’s lack of class, tact, and curiousity about the world. and the funniest part is that her dad is from meadville — just north of pittsburgh. so, in effect, she insulted her own father! wow; again wow; i mean, black eyeliner and a hair straightener can only make someone so glamorous. maybe she should try to add a little sensitivity and intellect to her image.

KKKKati | 10/11/2006, 8:40 pm EST

Sienna is obviously lacking the couth and class of a true Hollywood starlet. Every city is lovely in their own right and to speak unkind of Pittsburgh is tacky since Pittsburgh is the at the very heart of her film. Her “movie star” status, thanks only to her super star boyfriend -we would not know her name. Her comment about Pittsburgh speaks volumes about her character and her acting ability after hearing her “apology”.

I have been to New Orleans, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, among many other cities.
Even the most glittery of places can be boring to those with little going on inside the mind.

Pittsburgh is our home. I love it here. Go down to the South Side and have some fun. You get what you bring, in life. If you want to see shit, you will see shit, but one of the most fundamental, simple pieces of knowledge, we can all hold on to is, you don’t go into someone’s home, and make fun of it.
It’s impolite. The question wasn’t do you like Pittsburgh. It was do you think Ms. Miller should apologize?
She already has apologized, but I don’t know how sincere it was, and am sure that some grownup made her do it.
For those of you out there, who want to keep insulting someone else’s home, I only hope that your parents can help you too.

JET | 10/11/2006, 5:50 pm EST

jj ~ you are a FUCKING IDIOT, you must work for Public Eye Communications LTD in London

I strongly suggest you read the bios of ALL those that are CURRENTLY producing, directing, writing scripts and acting in movies, TV and Broadway Plays that are either from Pittsburgh or attended college in Pittsburgh.

Tim | 10/11/2006, 5:49 pm EST

Pittsburghers probably do need to not take criticism so hard, although I must say most of the comments on here (both pro- and anti-pgh) are hyped up way above what you’ll hear even in Pittsburgh.

That said, movie casts have no right complaining about ANYWHERE they go. The visitors bureau, arts council, and every other city office bends over backwards (as is their job) to make the lives of filmmakers and such easier while they’re here.

Pgh has a problem with glorifying it’s gritty past (e.g. blue color steel workers, pounding Yeunglings), and then getting pissed when people believe untrue, negative images (e.g. the air is dirty, the buildings are sooty, etc.). Sort of like when your parents tell you BS stories about having to walk to school “up hill, both ways, in the freezing snow” thinking somehow you envy them. If the yinzers settled down and presented their city in a more worldly light, that would certainly be a step in the right direction.

P.S. - I wonder if Sienna’s ever heard the FEAR song “New York’s Alright (if you like saxophones)”. I think her view of NYC is that of the spoiled brat she comes off as in the tabloids, and might be surprised that other people have a different opinion.

jj | 10/11/2006, 4:24 pm EST

For all of you that are faulting Sienna Miller on her comments, I really question whether you’ve ever been to the unfortunate city of Pittsburgh. Those that grow up there rarely get the chance to leave - it’s not exactly the land of opportunity - so their opinions are skewed. For the rest of us, though, we should be thankful that we don’t live there.

Well anyway, hopefully she will learn something from this and mend the immature self-serving attitude and become a better person.

Who would have known that Sienna Miller’s FREE true-life “comedy” would be ten times better than the movie “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh”, that no one NOW will be willing to pay to see, thanks to her foul mouth and totally selfish attitude.

No wonder she constantly fills the Tabloids in the U.K., Canada and the United States with the exploits of her failed life. The Slutty Sienna Miller Comedy is a never ending story.

in an ironic twist, Sienna’s father was born in Meadville, PA which is 90 minutes north of Pittsburgh. Apparently she has not spent much time there or she would have a much better feel for the heart and soul of the region. Hopefully as she matures she will learn to embrace and learn from places and situations that are outside her comfort zone.

You would have thought that the spoiled rotten no-talent bitch Sienna Miller would have learned by now ….

http://post-gazette.com/pg /06284/728938-53.stm

PITTSB URGH BOUNCER: “Honey, you need ID to drink here to be a patron” …… “Sienna ripped off her hat and said, ‘I am Sienna Miller. I am a famous actress!’”

SIENNA MILLER’S MOM: “Don’t you know who this is?”

PITTSBURGH BOUNCER: “We escorted Sienna Miller out the exit. She was going crazy out there, stomping her feet, walking up and down the street for 30 minutes”

OWNER OF THE TAVERN: “There was no reason for her to act like she did. No ID, no entry — I’m sorry, we can’t bend the rules for anybody.”

zoof | 10/10/2006, 11:30 pm EST

Ok, new NEWS. She tries to get into a bar and the bouncer asks for ID. She asks “don’t you know who I am” “I don’t care, everyone needs ID” “I’m sienna miller” “yea, so show me your ID that you’re 21″

Boy what a let down… everyone wanted to dis on her….but nobody even knows who she is! Including the bouncer who kicked her out! That’s almost too good!

Her comments on Pittsburgh . . . who cares. Pittsburgh is a great place and I know I will not be watching this movie. I really would have liked to but, now I refuse to support her.

lovey dovey | 10/10/2006, 2:04 pm EST

In all honesty, the only reason I( and probably most others) know of Sienna Miller is because Jude Law slept with their Nanny and now because of the remark she has just made. Its a shame because I really was looking forward to this movie, but to see it would be supporting her. As a Pittsburgh-er my whole life, I can sincerely tell you that I wouldn’t love to live anywhere else. Sure, its no NYC or LA, but this town’s got heart and soul… and a super bowl winning football team! If this C-list actress wants to get better jobs, I suggest she gets acting lessons.

Born in the 'Burgh | 10/10/2006, 10:39 am EST

Well, this puts me in a bind… I’d like to see the movie but don’t feel like supporting that skank. She just bit the hand that feeds her. Maybe she could get more glamorous roles if she could act? Sorry Pittsburgh is not “plastic” enough for you.

Jeff | 10/10/2006, 9:52 am EST

It’s pretty immature to be making fun of a city without really having seen any of it. She’s probably staying in downtown and realizes downtown is dead after 8PM, so she thinks the entire city has nothing going on. As someone who went to school in Pittsburgh, it skews to college kids and older people; she’s probably not going to find the trendy NY 30 something places she’s looking for. That said, she needs to get off her high horse and go see the city. It may not be what she expects, but it has plenty to offer.

How I wonder | 10/10/2006, 9:45 am EST

I pose the question to everyone bitching that Pittsburghers are taking this too personally and that they should get a life, if Mrs. Miller had said New York City should be called New Barf City, or LA should be called Lost Angelus or Chicago, Shitcago. If they would be saying that people from those cities would be over reacting.

And ohh ya, we make fun of Philly, city of brothers with guns, but it’s like 2 brothers picking on each other so we’re allowed. I even cheer the Eagles as they trounced TO’s ass.

TJ | 10/10/2006, 12:18 am EST

While every one is entitled to their opinion, common sense has to come into play somewhere. Ms. Miller, you are making a film in a city based on a book ABOUT said city. Why on earth would you bite the hand that feeds you? I bet my salary that if I were to trash the company I work for to the media, I would be out of a job.
TO MY FELLOW PITTSBURGHERS, DON’T STOOP TO HER LEVEL. A BLOW TO THE WALLET WILL CERTAINLY STING MORE THAN A FAT LIP. BOYCOTT THE MOVIE. THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER ANYWAY.

drjones | 10/9/2006, 10:27 pm EST

Generally, eastern PA natives don’t mind slagging Pittsburgh a bit; but it’s all in good fun and never malicious. I have to be honest I’ve been an RS subscriber for a while now and Ms. Miller’s take on Pittsburgh was pretty childish. It actually made me put the magazine down without finishing the article. First time that has happened. Pittsburgh, as a city, has always been extremely supportive of the arts. The number of wonderful films that have been produced there is extremely distinguished. This is to say nothing of the general notion that England has more than it’s share of industrial cities that have tumultuous weather patterns. Perhaps she feels equal disdain for the cities of Liverpool and Manchester, which are great cities, but they are not London or New York either.

Acting like a child will never bring out from beneath the mantle that is her current tabloid existence. There is no better evidence than this string of comments. Instead of talking about her talent, of which little has been displayed on screen as of yet (but may flourish in the coming year), we are discussing what is in essence her immaturity.

Perhaps her role in Alfie was so convincing because she is, perhaps, a disrepectful, selfish, hedonistic human being. Perhaps, she’s actually lovely and just needs to grow up. Either way, there will be many places a person visits in their lives they don’t like. While freedom of speech allows us to voice any opinion we so choose, decency still asks that we take up the personal responsibility of respecting our fellow human beings.

If I were from Pittsburgh I would be upset, but I would not bother with “egging” or for that matter engaging in this moment beyond only one intelligent response. It’s a bigger city than that, one of outstanding character and ethic. The kind of city that truly makes this country great because it’s part of the broad shoulders that hold the rest of us up. Just because it doesn’t set trends NYC, LA or London doesn’t make it any less of a wonderful place. For that matter take a survey of where most people would prefer to raise a family.

Here’s to hoping she gets out and explores the waterfront, the museums and the countryside and realizes she’s childish. Even if she doesn’t, here’s to hoping she matures, gains healthy respect for those outside her managment team and producers, directors and studios and flourishes into an exemplary woman. It won’t be the first time someone pulls themselves up by the bootstraps and makes a better person of themselves. It happens in cities like Pittsburgh all the time.

'Burgh Girl | 10/9/2006, 9:29 pm EST

Ms. Miller doesn’t know what to do with herself because the lives of Pittsburgh folk don’t revolve around plastic surgery, botox, and anorexia. God forbid she’s in a city where people are rooted. I’m glad she posed with the mayer on TV…Bob O’Connor wouldn’t have liked her!

How dare Sienna Miller make a movie about OUR city and stay/work in OUR city, yet still diss it to a popular magazine. If anyone sees her around town I wish they would throw mud or rotting vegetables at her.

Someone please deport her back to her own stupid country. She doesn’t even belong here. F*cking foreigner.

And darling… you can’t get the most popular glamorous movies that the REAL actresses get because you have absolutely no talent to speak of. You’re just a lame-ass ho with blonde hair.

If I see you in the street I will punch you in the face. (And I’m a chick so this is completely kosher)

Anonymous | 10/9/2006, 4:27 pm EST

As a happy transplant to the burgh (not a native), I just have to say that anyone who disses the city whose location is integral to the film (as it is to the book by the Pulitzer Prize winning Chabon) not only owes the city an apology, but owes one to her producer and studio as well. Ouch! That’s gonna hurt at the box office.

if this was angelina jolie that said that….that there would be a huge uproar because shes angelina jolie!!!

but when its a d-list celeb, (if that even qualifies as a celebrity!!) no one should care because its just a no-name actress who is only a d-list celeb because she f*cked and played “bump * bump” with a b-list celeb.

Zsa | 10/9/2006, 3:18 pm EST

I’m from Pittsburgh, but after reading that excerpt I honestly think I’m more offended by her saying she was able to capture Edie Sedgewick’s “anguished aura” by thinking about her manwhore husband fucking the nanny. Edie Sedgwick lived through the death of two beloved brothers (one by his own hand), several stays in mental hospitals and what could only be described as a mentally debilitating childhood and adolescence. This all BEFORE she even hooked up with Andy Warhol.

At any rate - anyone who doesn’t get out of the hotel bar is obviously going to hate whatever city they’re in. I can only guess that her deluded ass thought she was soooooo famous she might get mobbed or something.

G Unit | 10/9/2006, 1:13 pm EST

Sienna, a blonde-C-List “actress,” with a husband, albeit a pretty boy, was boinking the nanny, and she was a fat hog, so Sienna, you must be a frigid twat in bed for Jude to be shagging the whale nanny. And for all of you haters also pegging the city, do your f-n homework and read a few history books on the industrustial revolution, the building industries and steel construction, etc., etc.

Sienna, I am a Pittsburgher who now lives in one of your “industry,” towns and you’re a drop in the bucket, a bleach-blonde-standard-looking girl with no personality. You grow on trees in the “funky,” towns.

Go back to the UK or France wherever it is you were spawned with the rest of the miserables.

It’s a ‘Burgh Thing | 10/9/2006, 11:37 am EST

Did anyone see the video of Sienna’s (pseudo)apology to the city of Pittsburgh? Her hair looks like a freakin’ lhasa apso! And when did her face get so fat? Yeeesh! If you’re gonna knock my hometown, honey, you better at least look good while you’re doing it! I know 50,000 Herbal Essences bleach blondes in Pittsburgh who got a better dye job than you did, you second-rate shill!

And by the way, what kind of a putty-faced dolt makes a movie about a city – and then knocks the city??? What a dumb ass! With a blue-collar last name like “Miller,” you oughta know better than to knock a town like ours, ya clueless snotty twit! The only mystery of Pittsburgh is why they didn’t strap a bag of pierogies to ya and toss your high-fallutin, sorry arse into the Monongahela River when they had the chance.

Screw you, Sienna, you dumb dog! Sienna is the color of bullcrap!
BOYCOTT THE MOVIE! DOUBLE YOI!

P.S. By the way, Sienna, love, you might want to lay off the cupcakes while you’re in the ‘Burgh, even us slovenly commoners know better than to go around looking like that.

whatever sienna | 10/9/2006, 11:17 am EST

what the heck is wrong with you!Rolling Stone is cool, I guess you just wanna be cool, instead you just took a dive at the box office. Never heard of you, but now that I know your name, I know what not to see at the movies if your name appears. Disgrace…

Living in Pittsburgh my whole life, naturally I wanted to throw something at Sienna Miller. But at the same time, I don’t think Pittsburgh’s a town you “get” in a few weeks here. It’s not someplace you instantly fall in love with, unless you are taken with the aesthetics such as the bridges, glass, and bizarre ‘Narnia’-style architecture of PPG Place.

We have hardly any music clubs. Neko Case, Jenny Lewis, Bright Eyes, Mastodon? I don’t know the last time they played here. Movie premieres. We get them last. Young people? Yeah, there are some, but this mostly is a place of older people who can’t drive to save their lives and whine anytime there’s even a sniff of progress (which is why the downtown region STILL hasn’t been touched and remains a ghost town on the weekends).

But if you spend some time here, you know there’s more than meets the eye. We have some pretty neat art galleries. We have Mr. Smalls, a converted Millvale church that now is a music club. We have intimate, neighborhood-ish night spots such as the South Side and Strip District that contain bars that have almost a clique-ish feel. We also have this borderline unhealthy love for the Pittsburgh Steelers that compares to how British soccer fans express emotion for their teams and national sport. It’s sick how people here are into the Steelers, but it’s what helps make us communal.

I’m sure Sienna Miller experienced none of this. I’m sure she got only a small helping of the city, and trust me, I can understand if the first taste was a little bitter. But if she had time to spend here, she’d find some things to her liking. We’re not NYC or LA or Atlanta or anything. But we’re unique and pretty much a cult. Once you’re a member of said cult, you’re always a member, no matter where you live. You never really get out. If you aren’t from here, you don’t get that. And that’s OK.

And hell, we’re a ton better than Cleveland, if if our respective football teams have the same amount of wins right now. :-)

JET | 10/9/2006, 1:00 am EST

Sienna Miller, during a pre-scheduled interview with an Editor of Rolling Stone Magazine, in a drunken stupor, while trashing her FREE Suite in a world renowned 4 Star hotel, the 3rd rate no-talent actress wannabee, cries into her goblet of cheap wine that her slutty life sucks. She blames her gracious and generous host, the entire City of Pittsburgh, but if she wants to know who is TOTALLY responsible for causing her life to suck, she need only look in any mirror.

Sienna Miller’s co-star Nick Nolte is not complaining. As a matter of fact he’s returning after making the ACADEMY AWARD nominated film “Lorenzo’s Oil” here in Pittsburgh.

She cries that Hollywood should pity her because making a movie in Pittsburgh is way too far beneath her? So in Sienna Miller’s over inflated ego of her own self importance and talent, she is superior to Sir Anthony Hopkins & Jody Foster who both received ACADEMY AWARDS following the filming in Pittsburgh of the Best Picture ACADEMY AWARD winner “Silence of the Lambs”?

Sienna Miller feels Hollywood should pity her because her acting talent deserves superior locations than Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep who filmed in Pittsburgh the Best Picture ACADEMY AWARD winner “The Deer Hunter”?

Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito filmed the ACADEMY AWARD nominated film “Hoffa” in Pittsburgh but Sienna Miller feels she deserves superior locations for her film roles?

So Sienna Miller would have refused roles in all these films that were filmed in Pittsburgh because they were too far beneath her inflated ego: Wonder Boys, Angels in the Outfield, Dogma, Flashdance, Inspector Gadget, Mothman Prophecies, Desperate Measures, Diabolique, Boys on the Side, Lady Beware, Mrs. Soffel, Houseguest, Sudden Death, Milk Money, Only You, Groundhog Day, Money for Nothing, Striking Distance, Dominick & Eugene, Robocop, Gung Ho, Citizen Cohn, Cemetery Club, and Night of the Living Dead.

Michael London, the CEO of Groundswell Productions, who is filming Sienna Miller in “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh”, must be thrilled about the countless millions of dollars her ignorant statements and bizarre off screen behavior have just cost him.

Harvey and Bob Weinstein are behind the film “Factory Girl”, the Edie Sedgwick biopic with Sienna Miller. Edie Sedgwick was a muse of Pittsburgh’s own Andy Warhol. Add more losses of tens of millions of dollars in lost ticket sales to “Factory Girl”, as a direct result of Sienna Miller’s ignorant statements and bizarre off screen behavior.

Edie Sedgwick died in her 20’s of a drug overdose, perhaps life will imitate art, with regards to the bizarre Sienna Miller.

andyvansteel | 10/9/2006, 12:42 am EST

way to go dumbass!!! u just lost millions of dollars for your employers!!!, most people from pittsburgh p/b might have gone to see the movie!!…….not anymore!

hotel rooms are fun!!! | 10/8/2006, 11:56 pm EST

Oh yea!! pittsburgh sucks!!! but a hotel is so much more fun than a whole city with lots to do!! u can go to the indoor pool….rent a movie….or just go to sleep!!, that sounds like sooooooo much fun! someone should show her the STRIP DISTRICT or ALL THE NICE MUSEUMS, or STATION SQUARE, or, THE INCREDIBLE DOWNTOWN ARCHITECTURE!!

p.s. AND Y dont they show her UPPER ST. CLAIR, MT. LEBANON, PLEASANT HILLS, MOON TWP. or WEXFORD(where many ppl, who are 10X richer than her!!) to name a few??? then we will see if its still shitsburgh!!

Iris | 10/8/2006, 11:35 pm EST

That was a very rude thing to say to an extremely gracious, hard-working, loyal and fun community!

Ted | 10/8/2006, 11:09 pm EST

I’m hearing ya, D!

Consider the source…d-list actress…nice job by her publicist to write her apology…she was just shooting off her mouth to look “cool” in Rolling Stone…in other words who cares?

Marty | 10/8/2006, 11:01 pm EST

Who gives a sh!t what some nobody talentless “actress” thinks? Who is she anyway?

www.heatherjeane.com | 10/8/2006, 10:44 pm EST

Well, I used to have a French neighbour, after Jann S Wenner visited Adelaide. There was a French Street in the 60s where Mckenzie lived, but where her fater worked, The Waite Agricultural Institute, is now where Iranians worked it out.
They are anti drugs, pro-war. I guess that’s why the French company bought into RS magazine.
I don’t knw what to thin about Pittsberg, beyond Pitt Street Sydney. You can link to it via the above address going to “E book.” What Tv show was that with the guy called Link? Not Linkletter, that other show with Peggy Lipton, maybe?

K Dog | 10/8/2006, 8:48 pm EST

I can’t name two movies Sienna Miller has appeared in. I can only name one, and that’s because it was mentioned in this article. I wouldn’t worry about a woman whose claim to fame is that Jude Law cheated on her.

Tracey | 10/8/2006, 8:15 pm EST

I don’t understand her destructive behavior but she definitely made a horrible mistake by bashing this particular city. Some ask why should we care, well, we shouldn’t really. However, Pittsburghers are so proud of our city and would take offense to ANYONE saying anything disparaging about it. It is my personal opinion that she IS just any other person. We’re not really big on kissing celebrity ass here in the Burgh (if she even qualifies as a celebrity). We are friendly to everyone without discretion. It’s the Pittsburgh nature in me to want to personally take her around the city and show her how wrong she is. Living in a hotel room, how can you judge any place really?

I am a native Pittsburgher, lived and vistied many cities like NY, Chicago, Nashville, Denver, Charleston and places like Toronto, Sheffield, Donegal, etc. I very much liked them all! Nothing compares to home though. There is so much to offer here that it’s not even funny. Many people still have a negative view of Pittsburgh as a smoky city. Oh yeah, and we’re not a fat, lazy city as someone alluded to earlier. That person is just displaying the same ignorance and immaturity of Ms. Miller.

In fact, Pittsburgh is actually beautiful with amazing architecture, museums, theatres, rivers and hillsides, and great people and great neighborhoods. It is a reknowned center for higher education, the arts, health care and technology. Pittsburgh is the best city in the world! I believe it offers it all. Yes, this is my opinion. It was also Ms. Miller’s opinion to bash our city. Well again, I think she is not only wrong, but completely misguided in general. I feel that her attempt at an apology was insincere at best.

Oh boy, what a stupid thing to do. I will never go see any movie she is in or any project she is a part of. Bad move Ms. Miller, you picked the wrong city. We are proud and loyal here. Don’t mess with Pittsburgh!

get over it | 10/8/2006, 7:34 pm EST

everyone keeps saying how “high maintainance” and “stupid” sienna miller is. no shit. shes a spoiled, beautiful actress. what more could you expect from that? dont be offended. she doesnt have the capacity to realize what her words are reflecting upon. and besides, dont you think youre being a little hard on her? ill bet a thousand dollars that every single person on this message board dislikes at least one city. for various reasons, whatever they may be, PEOPLE DONT LIKE CERTAIN PLACES. it happens. and the only difference is that her griping is nationally published. who gives a shit. do you love every single place youve ever been? i doubt it.

The Right Hand | 10/8/2006, 12:53 pm EST

News Flash - people get raped and murdered in Pittsburgh just like any other American city. Let’s not try to paint it like it’s some kind of Utopia. She doesn’t like it. So fucking what. I don’t like anchovies on my pizza.

Having spent some time in Pittsburgh, I can definitely say the pride and dedication the local residents have for their city is almost immediately apparent. They are extremely friendly, and they take great pleasure in telling you all about their city (especially their NFL football team). Anyone having spent the time it takes to shoot a film in Pittsburgh would know exactly what sort of response such a statement would have on the local population.

I cannot help but wonder if Sienna Miller’s disparaging comments weren’t calculated. Her notoriety is, after all, heavily tied to the now stale Judd Law and the nanny media frenzy. What puzzles me is her lack of foresight into the potential negative impact her statement could have on the film? Her comment is tantamount to saying… “Don’t bother coming out to see the film because Pitt
