Trust us on this one: You guys are gonna seriously sweat us for introducing you to Annuals, a North Carolina-bred six-piece whose woozy indie rock reminds us of Flaming Lips mixed with old Smashing Pumpkins. Their debut album, Be He Me, is out October 17th and is chock-full of ethereal synthscapes and the occasional psych-rock freakout. So so good for listening to on a rainy day while smoking a big ol’ bowl and making finger-paintings. Or whatever. Pay special attention to “Brother,” which is our new favorite song. P.S. These scruffy young lads (and lady) are touring with our other music crushes, Tapes N’ Tapes, and will play select dates with Art Brut(!!!!!) and Spinto Band. There is officially a God.

Watching, and listening to Annuals over the past few years has really influenced the way I look at music, I mean, this stuff is original, and sexy as hell.

IF YOU DON’T ‘GET’ THIS BAND, YOU JUST DON’T GET ‘MERICA
From a long time ago | 11/26/2006, 11:21 pm EST
Quite some time ago, actually probably about two or three years ago, there was a show with The Annuals as well as My Favorite Illness, it was behind the senior center in bond park, I think it was the final show with Further Falling Records actually. Now my friend and I had danced to My Favorite Illness and were clearly fans of that band. At the beggining of the Annuals set I made a joke, about turning the volume to zero when they asked if the sound was alright- it wasn’t well received. Alas, we still danced to the Annuals music, as an act of goodwill, but my friend was physically assualted by a friend of the Annuals. It was very disappointing. No this isn’t meant to sully the band, just relating a story they most likely don’t remember; anyways no hard feelings.

I was at that show, and really, it was apparent to see which band would go to fame. My Favorite Illness was a plague upon music. Sedona/Annuals forever.

I was Kenny Florences next door neighbor for about 13 years. Looking back, I’ve noticed that he is one of the most talented kids I’ve ever met. He’s gone from his punk band in middle school days “Timothy’s Weekend” to “Sedona” in High School, and now “Annuals”. Really an amazing band with great assortments of instruements and vocals. Guaranteed to please the listener.

I actually really dislike this band, however I do recognize they have a lot of talent. It seems to me the record label is trying to cash in on anyhting indie that can sell to the mainstream indie crowd. If you want to listen to bands that are surely not mianstream indie look up New Artica and Valley NC.
