  • A judge has ordered the arrest of Bobby Brown after he failed to show up in court and explain why he owes 11K in child support from a former relationship. The judge wasn’t so into the idea that Brown can’t deal with this issue because Whitney is divorcing him.
  • The forthcoming U2 Best-Of will include the band’s new favorite song – their cover of the Skids “The Saints Are Coming” with Green Day.
  • Norman Cook, aka, Fatboy Slim, was asked by the Conservative Party in the UK for permission to use his song “Happiness” in their campaigns. He said no. They said too bad, they’re using it anyway. Okay then!
  • The Mars Volta’s Cedric Bixler-Zavala reveals a long-term psychological battle with Catholicism, saying, “I just think in general that Catholicism reminds me of people who think the earth is flat … and if you’re not careful you might end up with one of the priests.”

I’m gonna have to kind of agree with satan(Never thought i’d be saying that)…go back 500 or so years to Galileo, he was lambasted by the church for proving them wrong…of course not just catholics are bigots, christianity in general, little thing called the crusades…i could go on about each religion and their problems with other races, religions and what not…point is, people, no matter who you are, have biases and prejudices against something, be it religion, race, life style etc.

Andy | 10/3/2006, 12:44 pm EST

Wow, so many ignorant, uneducated people…

skerr | 10/3/2006, 1:44 pm EST

Wow Ced! I thought he might be going somewhere with the comment about the conservative nature of the catholic church until he turned head and proved he’s a moron. Can I suggest he stick to writing rock music where his opinions are disgused by obscure lyrics and musical distortion?

It’s not Easter or Christmas today, so why is anyone taking offense to Catholic comments

Andy | 10/3/2006, 2:33 pm EST

“why is anyone taking offense to Catholic comments”

Because the comments are baseless and false.

I love the Mars Volta and their music, and certainly respect Cedric for voicing his opinions. There aren’t many people with the conviction to even do that.

However, just because I like Mars Volta does not mean I have to agree with the guy and just because I don’t agree with the guy doesn’t mean I have to stop listening to Mars Volta.

For the record, I feel he’s wrong – but he’s certainly entitled to his opinion. Unfortunately, his opinion carries more weight than mine because he happens to be considered a “celebrity”.

Mars Volta are wankers still stuck in the 90’s Vegan PC mindset, only they olay pretentious prog rock instead of emo. This is the same band who stormed off the stage in just outside of Seattle saying some crap about playing to a bunch of white kids on Indian land. Drink some beer and eat some pizza fuckheads

It’s not surprising to hear about such a bad experience with the faith, so I applaud Zavala’s resistance and negativity towards anything Catholic- Why? Because in his bad experience of the faith is the key to the search he will live out for the rest of his life. He will search for meaning, for truth, for wholeness– and if he is true to his expanded and awesome poetic artistry, I feel he will eventually catch a glimpse of what all humans desire in this somewhat broken life…that is, “understanding.”
I am glad Zavala can express his sentiments in such a creative fashion in his vocals. I hope he continues to do so.
And Cedric… you may not be a fan of priests or Catholics, but I want you to know that you have a Catholic who is studying to be a priest that hears what you say. Much love camarada.
