It’s not clear exactly what happened during DMX’s headlining set at the Hot 97 Back to School Jam this Saturday. What is clear is that the rapper only performed for fifteen minutes, that he had sound problems and that a fan was clocked in the head by a metal folding chair. Police spokesman Detective Sergeant Herb Daub told New York Newsday that DMX “ran back, jumped off [the] stage” during his brief set, “and started a fight with the sound person” after the sound was cut during his set.
Apparently there were sound problems all night, but it appears DMX took it personally. According to police, DMX and his entourage left the stage early only to return and hurl water bottles into the crowd. A member of the audience allegedly retaliated by throwing a steel folding chair on stage. “It was thrown back off by a member of DMX’s entourage and it struck the victim in the head,” Daub said. A special-operations team was reportedly brought in to clear out the venue, which has to be the most punk rock thing that’s happened at Nassau Coliseum in a while.
