A Seventeenth Career for Courtney Love? See Shocking Video Evidence

9/29/06, 1:55 pm EST

So, right, there are these clips up on YouTube from an upcoming documentary about Courtney Love. We’ve been watching them. The one where she shows the reporter her shoe collection and then happens upon the jacket Kurt died in feels so self-promoting and manipulative that it made us not want to watch any others. But the clip that’s up today, which puts into context footage from the first clip and shows bits of interviews with Billy Corgan and Linda Perry, is actually really intriguing.

Courtney discusses, among other things, her bizarre appearance at Pamela Anderson’s roast and subsequent overdose/suicide attempt in which, she says, she “took heroin for the first time in ten years.” She comes off as pretty forthright and, well, sober, though she is still a woman who lists Kurt and Lindsay Lohan in the same breath when discussing those she chants for during her practice of Buddhism. Could she maybe (potentially, for real, somehow) come back and make a great record? In this interview she really seems lucid and wise and self-aware and still edgy and narcissistic in the right rock ways. Is a second coming of Courtney possible?

in a word, YES.

Freidrich Charles | 9/29/2006, 3:41 pm EST

In a word, why?

Oh shit, those were four words, but the real important one is last. Faction! Europa! In 2001 it pays to talk to one!

Freidrich Charles | 9/29/2006, 3:42 pm EST

Is this for conversing or leaving incoherint comments?

Silver | 9/29/2006, 3:44 pm EST

it just shows how much she conrtolls the media. She always happens to pop something out of kurts, or talks about him. Maybe its because she actully killed him. Is it so hard for people to think about? look at the evedence and weigh it.

Rowr | 9/29/2006, 3:53 pm EST

Jesus, is it really so hard to believe that Kurt killed himself? Isn’t his music (particularly the scathing ‘in utero’) all about how miserable he was and thought the world was? And hasn’t it been understood–since Dylan’s motorcycle wreck, through Jimi’s and Jim’s and Janis’ drug-related deaths and Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ and M. Manson’s Bowie-copping ‘Anti-Christ Superstar’ that death is the only way for a rock star to go out on top…that the only way the fans’ll be satisfied is if a performer gives them everything, including her life?

I thought so, anyways…

*And this the Jacket I found the Demo tape in that is now my new CD.*

Bret | 9/29/2006, 8:01 pm EST

I don’t know what to think of it. She didn’t seem all that upset about finding the coat, it seemed more eerie to her than anything. If my wife killed herself and I kept the coat and one day came across it, I bet I’d be bawling.

Pete R | 9/29/2006, 11:25 pm EST

I’ve loved her since the first time I heard 1994’s “Live Through This.” I identify with her ups & downs & I am totally pulling 4 her.

Kurt and courtney existed in a heroin haze….perhaps many do not understand what that consists of…I would imagine Courtney is beyond crying…Kurt changed music, but he wasn’t exactly stable…he had a history of depression and suicide attempts and addiction…and Courtney has a past very much the same…you stop crying after awhile

kurdt | 9/30/2006, 2:06 pm EST

people bash her for not crying, yet if she was crying they’d be saying what a fake she is. make up your minds.

tori | 9/30/2006, 3:26 pm EST

COURTNEY FUCKING ROCKS

get over it.

Kuzco | 9/30/2006, 4:51 pm EST

There are plenty of uniformed, hateful opinions listed… I would like to say that I’m happy to see her doing something that I wasn’t sure she’d actually be able to do and I look forward to her new book and album. Keep your chin up, Courts.

“so self-promoting and manipulative that it made us not want to watch any others”

Especially since he died wearing a flannel shirt. For realz.

We SWEAR we’re not being paid off or threatened with legal action.

jules becker | 10/1/2006, 12:07 pm EST

america’s sweethart was not a flop because of being a wrack quite the opposite. she chose to display being turned of by fame again while living a nice moderately healthy celebrity life with chanel costumes and being quite happy and rich. everyone perceived this as fake, and yes it was.
she should have stayed honest, maybe she does drugs oncee in a while but she lives a quite conscious life. if she had chosen not to put on such an embaressing pseudo rebellious cheap freak show and would have tried to present people something that really matters nowadays to her it would have been intresting and surely more succesful. she has an intresting character, has intelectual depts why not show now- please coutney become authentic. nobody believes this anymore.

K | 10/1/2006, 12:43 pm EST

It’s really all about the music. Let’s face it..she’s old – freaking ancient by today’s culture’s youth-worshipping standards, I don’t think anybody post-2000 really cares what she says or looks like or does. She’s no longer any relevant part of the celebrity gossip crowd that she so desperately needs approbatation from.

Regardless of any other factor, Live Through This was one of the most abrasive, vicious, amazing records of the ’90’s. Celebrity Skin was a completely different record, mature pop-rock like a great Cheap Trick record with 90’s production. It was also great. Since then her albums have been pretty weak. For her to survive will mean writing great music and making great records again, end of story. Because older people just yawn when they hear her name now, and half of the teenagers you meet these days haven’t even heard of her.

Anthony | 10/1/2006, 4:43 pm EST

All rightee, hope for the best… but man, has her voice been altered! I have to quit smoking QUICK.

OK | 10/1/2006, 7:49 pm EST

I don’t care what anyone has to say. I have always cared about this woman’s music. I think all of her albums are great. And note to K who states that: Since “(celebrity skin)her albums have been pretty weak”. Excuse me you obviously are talking from a position of ignorance, since she only has released one album since then: the mostly brilliant America’s Sweetheart (which Courtney admits could have been better in places had she had the time and resources to sort out the production on some of the songs). The point is that this woman can be relevant and should be relevant. There are very few woman who actually Rock in the 21st century and we need her back now!

Aaron D. | 10/2/2006, 12:09 am EST

Courtney Love is too real for the overcommercialized, black eyeliner, overproduced entity that we’ve come to know as rock.

America’s Sweetheart wasn’t the best, but it had in spades what most new albums an only hope for: friction.

krunch | 10/2/2006, 8:30 am EST

OK, I’m possibly off my nut but, I thought America’s Sweetheart was brilliant. Would love to hear any new Courtney music.

courtney who? why is she relevant today? a f**ked up-botox filled widow who will subsist selling old rags on ebay she is.

Big Johnson | 10/3/2006, 12:45 am EST

OK, you are one in a million. To care about that burned-out freak of a human (if that’s really what she is) is a waste of your energy. She is nothing more than a has-been. (Not that she was ever anything more than Kurt Cobains babymamma) She doesn’t have the resources? Who is she trying to kid? She ripped-off Dave Grohl and Kris Novaselic for everything they contributed to Nirvana and then only wants to whore-out her dead husbands legacy to make a dollar for some crack. Give me a break! Paris freakin’ Hilton has more talent than Courtney “HOLE”. Her 15 minutes have been gone.

Big Johnson | 10/3/2006, 1:27 am EST

I am truly sorry for the mean, nasty things I said in my last post about Courtney Love. I just finished watching the video clips of her and the girl does have personality. I can’t say much for her music except it’s not my kind but I do see where others would like it. Her appearance on David Letterman was very entertaining and fun. She does have a place in entertainment and she is enjoyable. I was basing my other comments on her behavior on the Pam Anderson Roast. I thought she was a disgrace on there. That was only one episode of her being disgracefull. I shouldn’t have based my opinion of her on that. I did think she was a good actress in The People Versus Larry Flint. Again, I am very sorry for my comments before. Courtney Love has many more “15 Minutes” to come. She IS an Entertainer and a pretty good one at that. Please forgive me, Courtney and OK. I was wrong.

Big Johnson | 10/3/2006, 1:31 am EST

Just one more thing. I shouldn’t have judged her. It’s not my place. I don’t know why I said those nasty things about her but I do regret it and I do feel guilty for having said what I said. Sorry.

Lune | 10/3/2006, 9:08 am EST

Courtney rocks!

Tom | 10/4/2006, 7:56 pm EST

America`s Sweetheart only sold 80,000 copies in 2004, She can stage as many comebacks as she wants year after year, it won`t make any difference at this point.

pisces | 10/5/2006, 11:04 pm EST

I saw Courtney in late 2004 in Santa Cruz – and I thought it was great. I felt she still had a lot of the intensity and passion she had with Hole. A comeback’s welcome.

changeling | 10/6/2006, 8:14 am EST

Yawn….Courtney who? The question she fears hearing the most.

miranda | 10/6/2006, 11:55 am EST

Although she lacks real skill as a musician or song writer, Courtney Love’s greatest gift lies
in her aggressively burlesque form
of self promotion. Her appetite for Fame seems to know no bounds.
That type of grasping, useless behaviour is sometimes amusing, but ultimately not worth the dust in which it’s written.

awful | 10/12/2006, 1:31 am EST

She is one fucking determined woman and I personally cannot wait for her new album and love americas sweetheart.
