U2 Signs Books (But Not Our Book) At NYC Barnes and Noble

9/26/06, 7:54 pm EST

Today we jetted down to NYC’s Union Square Barnes and Noble to vie for a chance to have Bono (or the Edge, or Larry or Adam or anyone) sign our copy of U2’s very personal and visually stunning new autobiography, U2 By U2. After being jostled and psychologically traumatized by the paparazzi in the pit, we finally elbowed our way to the front to chat with the dudes about the tome. Adam Clayton told us that the project is “kind of everybody’s individual story…a portrait of all four members of the band — you don’t just get one view.” Quadra-vision! Trippy!
Ever the ham, Bono thrilled the assembled fans, throwing kisses and hugs to the crowd. He even let some lucky bastards try on his infamous shades and snap photos as they waited. Jerks. Oh well, we didn’t have it so bad: some uber-fans waited sixteen hours and didn’t come away with an autograph. At least we can now say we got to share oxygen with Bono. That counts for something — right?

it’s U2 “By” U2, not “On”

Viva U2! Viva U2! Viva U2!

The book gives each band member’s point of view? You mean like the Aerosmith book? And the Kiss book? And the Motley Crue book? Yeah, U2 – Always on the CUTTING EDGE!!! WHOA!

Love U2.

No disrespect, but who are the people who write this Blog? Are you interns, relatives, or staff writers?

I’m just curious. It sounds like a fun job.

Maybe Lobsters is looking for the first U2 tell-all book by the roadies and guitar techs. Or maybe–get this—we could have a band biography by the flies that the catering room attract!!! Now THERE’S cutting edge!!!

Steve | 9/27/2006, 12:36 pm EST

Can we all agree that Bono looks a thousand times better with a crew cut? Someone finally got the man a new stylist. THANK GOD.

Nancy | 9/27/2006, 3:33 pm EST

I love this band. Go U2 Go!!

Hey Lobsters; Kiss, Motley Crue and Areosmith suck! And so does your attitude.

What’s with that Lobsters guy? These guys wrote their own stuff not the barely literate clams you mention. Guess ya’ gotta be local.

It’s a book about a pop band not the Satanic Verses

Line Freak | 9/29/2006, 3:47 pm EST

Somehow, the glasses did’nt have the same effect on that guy!

sammi | 9/29/2006, 6:25 pm EST

big country america here. and one signing. sad. but sounds like a great book. glad you got a moment with them. i figured a RS staffer would have a lot more access to them? guess the velvet ropes are getting deeper and deeper. but they are the world’s best band.

Beth | 9/29/2006, 6:48 pm EST

Wow, to switch glasses with the man. Wonder if the “lucky bastard” had to have a couple of pints afterward??!

Gary G | 10/2/2006, 6:52 am EST

U2 – Most overrated band since the Who.
Presume people taken in by the ‘anthemic’trick and inflated egos?

shannon | 10/2/2006, 2:46 pm EST

i can confirm that the “lucky bastard” did, indeed, have to have a few pints after the swap.

bonofan281 | 10/3/2006, 10:42 am EST

i agree with sabrina. bono’s hair looks terrible in the buzz cut! besides his shades that was his other trademark.
