Elmo Asks: Who Are the Great Sesame Street Guest Stars of Tomorrow?

9/21/06, 3:42 pm EST

Can it really be ten years since that squeamish, scarlet hairball Elmo squirmed his way into our hearts with his endless pleas to be tickled? Where does the time go? To help Sesame Street’s token eunuch celebrate ten glorious, giggly years, Fischer Price has released a Tickle-Me-Elmo for the 21st century: TMX Elmo, which features “interactive tickle spots” (!) and other Child Services-baiting improvements. It got us thinking back to the salad days of SS’s celebrity cameos, when Smokey Robinson could dance a pas de deux with the Letter H whilst singing “You Really Got A Hold On Me.” A guest spot on the show is reportedly a highly coveted get, somewhere under an SNL guest spot but way above an appearance on Two and a Half Men. Which brings us to our question: Which current recording artistes most deserve that elusive Sesame Street cameo? Extra points for specifying ideal song selections and muppet collaborators. Sunny day, dudes.

Uhhhh, Justin could sing SexyBack with Oscar?

Other than that, I got nothing.

Oh, actually how about Mastodon performing with Snuffleupagus?

How about Radiohead performing “Street Spirit” (get it??) That would be sweet. I bet Kermit would make a great “Muppet Thom.” And then Thom would do the Muppet news “Thomas the Yorke here!” Haha sweet. Some of the Radiohead members look like Muppets anyway.

Oh oh oh! Now you KNOW “The Go! Team” would make a SUH-WEET cover of the theme song! Their music sounds like a Sesame Street soundtrack anyways…awesome

How about Garbage performing with Oscar the Grouch, performing a cover of the B-52’s song “Throw That Beat In The Garbage Can”

McNutt | 9/22/2006, 12:33 pm EST

Sufjan doing an updated version of “I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon” with Ernie would be pretty friggin great.

How about the Flaming Lips doing their version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”? They would barely need the Muppets, with all the costumes they already have!

Chuck | 9/22/2006, 8:55 pm EST

I totally agree with the Sufjan one that’s awesome. Or how about Sufjan doing the “Rainbow Connection” haha. Wow I like this topic I’m surprised it’s not getting much response.
