Willie Nelson Gets Busted for a Mere Pound or Two of Drugs

9/18/06, 2:29 pm EST

Willie NelsonWillie Nelson plus five other members of his renegade entourage were given misdemeanor citations for drug possession earlier today when an officer found one and a half pounds of marijuana and about one-fifth of a pound of mushrooms on their bus during a routine traffic stop in Saint Martin Parish, LA. First of all, that’s a shitload of drugs. Second of all, isn’t there some sort of national rule that says Willie Nelson’s tour bus is exempt from all pesky drug-related laws? And if there isn’t, why the hell not?

anoynimous renegade | 10/10/2006, 12:40 pm EST

We all know why cannabis should be legal we can only wait for the bastard governments to believe.

still breathing | 10/10/2006, 12:10 am EST

we should have the right to do what we want if we are not putting anyone else in danger. seat belt tickets possession of drugs cannot control drugs let them go they will controll themseves.

The Marquis | 10/6/2006, 4:39 pm EST

Go Willie Go!!!! However, it does fly in the face of reason that if I or any of my friends where popped with over a pound of pot and shrooms to boot,…we would fry. I don’t think Willie, or anybody for that matter, should be arrested for MJ or shrooms. I do know though that I would be looking at a possible 20 year term. Legalize it already will ya!!!!

megajeff666 | 10/1/2006, 12:04 pm EST

I think that 1 and a half lbs. is some good weight for a misdomeanor set of charges but anything like mushrooms is going to come with a stiffer penalty in the northeastern part of this country he is gonna get off easy and besides he is 73 years old and he is not selling to somones kids so he should get some preferential treatment and he is a good guy

lil willie | 9/28/2006, 8:44 pm EST

leave willie alone let the poor man alone

moose | 9/24/2006, 10:11 pm EST

drug test all the cops and test King George and all his court if you need to test somebody but willie doing good works for farm aid long live willie

K G Carroll | 9/22/2006, 5:42 pm EST

Look what the government did to Tommy Chong. 9 mos. in the federal pen just for selling BONGS over the internet. They did it because he was a symbol of MJ use. Now they could do the same to Willie. This government sucks

leave willie alone | 9/22/2006, 12:57 pm EST

People don’t realize that willie got off with a misdimeanor because all 5 ppl on the bus claimed it. therefore they couldn’t be charged with possesion with the intent of distrobution. I read somewhere that willie studied law somewhere for a while in his life, this could be why.

fatty783 | 9/21/2006, 9:00 pm EST

i think we should all be able to do whatever drugs or drinks that we want to with out having to answer to anyone about it.take me for example i had a few beers and got caught now i have to answer to a parole officer every 2 weeks that runs my life and tells me what to do f%&k that bullshit what happened to the free country let willie go

metallicarmando | 9/19/2006, 4:44 pm EST

is not is foult f**k police they dont have nothing to do.. yheaa free willy.

FearTheTruth | 9/19/2006, 4:27 pm EST

Can’t you people see it… this is all government conspiracy. Willie is the biggest icon for bio-diesel and all this drug publicity is distracting his cause. The government doesnt want us to produce gasoline in our own country(creating thousands of jobs and saving the environment w/biodiesel) they want us to be petrolium dependant. Yes Willie does drugs, he also wants to save Northern america agaisnt world war three.

Bob | 9/19/2006, 3:52 pm EST

MMMMMmmmmmm*********Shrooommmm s!!!

Dumbass | 9/19/2006, 3:33 pm EST

I bet that wasn’t even willie’s pot…i can’t honestly believe that willie nelson smokes marijuana….he must have been framed. he’s one straight edge guy if ive ever seen one.

littlebonz | 9/19/2006, 2:42 pm EST

1-2 pounds of pot is considered personal use? Only Willie could use that defense and have it hold up…anyone else is going down for possession with intent to distribute.

Olompali | 9/19/2006, 2:38 pm EST

The biggest error of the 60’s generation was not getting marijuana legalized.
Priorities are a bitch.

Love cup | 9/19/2006, 12:23 pm EST

Don’t wrinkle the willie.Grow up old man.
:)

Dazed & Confused | 9/19/2006, 8:42 am EST

…ok…who brought ‘the invisible man in the sky’ into this….some Santa/Moses like dude put pot here????…awww…come on….drop the medieval brigade stuff…Willie’s busted…he’ll pay the fine and go on…leave the superstition/voodoo out of it already!

Whatever | 9/19/2006, 7:41 am EST

I don’t give a damn what he eats, drinks or puts into his mummified body. I really don’t! And, Johnny, I’m not disagreeing with the charge, if that is what everyone else would get. He’s no king, god or anything better than yor or me. He definitely does’nt deserve preferential treatment because someone thinks is an idol or king or whatever.

i must admit..... | 9/19/2006, 5:52 am EST

i got possession of an ounce. one OUNCE and got the exact same thing and ended up costing me around $2500. which is chump change to willy. yeah its bull$hit that he will get off easy as hell but who cares. hes willy freakin nelson. the whole world knows he smokes pot. this lil prick cop in bumfuckedlouisiana wanted to have a story to tell his grandkids and a little bit of publicity and damn sure got it. just like the punk that got mel gibson on his DUI and look how big that blew up. and pound and a half for willy nelson = a doob for the normal person!

mike t | 9/19/2006, 5:16 am EST

Totally aggree with him being exempt…Willie is, after, 73 years old and a true legend, so smoke or eat what he wants!!!!

Jeff | 9/19/2006, 3:28 am EST

Hmmm…I wonder if he’ll get sentenced to 18 months of drug diversion in exchange for dropping the charges. Is it possible to rehabilitate a 73 year old pothead?

And yeah I agree, good quote whoever said it. Taking pot away from Willie is like crushing a puppy.

Johnny Hardcock | 9/19/2006, 3:25 am EST

Whatever. There are no kings in America (sometimes), even among 73-year-old music legends.

A misdemeanor charge is pretty good for a pound or two of drugs.

Whatever | 9/19/2006, 3:23 am EST

The drugs are illegal. They harm human beings in many ways. God put the plant on earth for a reason other than harming ourselves. Man made McDonalds and that doesn’t justify taking drugs. Willie is NOT a national asset but a national ASS. He is no better than anyone else in this country just because he is in the limelight. Using his celebrity to advance his agenda of any illegal activity is completely self serving. “Minor Drugs” is a fallacy. He should’ve been treated as any other citizen without preference. I like some of his music but he does NOT deserve any kind of preferential treatment.

Tom Laverty | 9/19/2006, 2:44 am EST

He was treated fairly, He is an asset to society. If not for his music, but for the fact that the nation needs to look at his example of someone smoking Marijuana (a harmless smoke, considering McDonalds will kill you) who was not harming anyone.

For gods sakes, have you ever heard of Potsmoker’s Anonymous? Alchohl is the devil.

And here’s something for all you Christians out there: God put this plant, on his planet, in its purest form, for a reason.

PEZ | 9/19/2006, 2:32 am EST

Its really not that much shit if you think about it, he has to help out all his friends.

Jose | 9/19/2006, 1:57 am EST

The law is the law, the sad thing is that if this were a black or latino man they would have thrown his ass in jail, but since this is whitey willie nelson all he gets is a misdemenor.

grievous pimp | 9/19/2006, 1:05 am EST

the guy’s a national treasure. there should be a presidential pardon in order. if only this country wasn’t run by a bunch of bible thumping weasels bent on taking over the world and going after sadam (’you shot at my daddy - chris penn in reservoir dogs) and forgetting and despising poor black people (new orleans will be rebuilt and it will look like arlington va with ann taylors and orvis). fuckerrrrrz.

willy | 9/18/2006, 10:37 pm EST

There should be a national law exempting the gray-headed stranger from weed/shrooms. Christ, for all we know he invented them. Let him bask in his creations, and let us enjoy them.

sam | 9/18/2006, 10:24 pm EST

is someone honestly suggesting that anyone smoking herb, let alone a bus of old hippies, is a threat to our youth?

oh my, we have some misaligned priorities as a people.

mr. rock | 9/18/2006, 10:08 pm EST

I would like to say, at least his still lives rock.

Sean | 9/18/2006, 9:34 pm EST

Is anybody really surprised by this?

marc | 9/18/2006, 9:14 pm EST

Were talking Pot here people. Not rape, murder, fraud, leading this country into war off of lies, even speeding. Were talking pot if you did not hear the first time. Go fight crime copper. Ever wonder why people hate cops? Go get that girl out of the bunker, go get osama, go bust a j-walker, just get the fuck off of Willie’s bus already. Did anyone read that dude John’s BS? You do know that that is really Rush Limbaugh don’t you. Saying shit like what if they ran someone over. Willie was not driving, he was in the back getting high if you already forgot pill head.

Dave | 9/18/2006, 9:02 pm EST

Firstly, Willie probably grows his own shrooms and weed, so he’s not “helping the drug dealers of America”. And whoever he does buy off, is probably not a gun toting gangster, but a close hippy friend…

The cop could’ve let him go, im sure the swine knew who he was busting, and was well aware that Willie is not some scummy drug dealer.

But then again, the law is the law. I enjoy both substances that are listed in the charges, but a pound and a half? Come on, the cop couldn’t ignore that much.

Satan | 9/18/2006, 8:54 pm EST

Hey John, I toke while driving my BMW. Hide your kids!!!!!!!

John | 9/18/2006, 8:04 pm EST

Let the cops look the other way, and when Willie or his crustations get your kid hooked or run them over in the bus, I bet you will be the first to file a law suit against the very cop that gave a “living?” legend a break. Since when is anyone above the law? Until society lets people blow their brains out, we must abide by society’s laws. If Willie wants to smoke or shroom, then take his bus and band to that country. Ever look at the mental institutions and see how many baby boomers are there with fried noggins? Do you like a stoner washing your BMW’s windshield when you stop at a stoplight? Course if you want to skirt the law, why are you even stopping at a stoplight?

What kind of a responsible person are you that think just because a singer has talent, he gets a free pass?

jon smith | 9/18/2006, 7:57 pm EST

no one should do that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!=’(

Will | 9/18/2006, 7:56 pm EST

All the money spent busting pot smokers is going to go down as one of the biggest blunders of the generation in power. What is Willie going to do? Get high and write a song? Someone raise the terror alert.

Gabi Hoopasteak | 9/18/2006, 7:23 pm EST

Free Willy!!!

Jeff | 9/18/2006, 6:46 pm EST

Anyone carrying drugs is a lethal threat to society. One can wander around with a machine gun though, since England could come back. Better safe than sorry, I guess ;)

Dude | 9/18/2006, 6:40 pm EST

Why should it be acceptable for some 65-year-old country singer, that most people just know for his pig tails, to support the drug dealers of America?

Donald | 9/18/2006, 6:36 pm EST

This the government’s idea of fighting the “drug war” there (on Willie’s bus) so we don’t have to fight it in our neighborhoods. Brilliant.

Jordan | 9/18/2006, 6:32 pm EST

Why just legalize the minor drugs?

Put all of them on the legit. What friggen difference would it make if you could get heroine from the pharmacy?

Other than put drug dealers of a job along with their hand guns, not much.

Panaflex | 9/18/2006, 6:23 pm EST

Arresting Willie is like crushing puppies. Let him have his herb!

PERK | 9/18/2006, 6:03 pm EST

HE WOULDN’T SOUND LIKE WILLIE IF HE DIDN’T HAVE IT GOIN’ ON!! WHERE DO YOU RECKON STEPHEN KING GOT ALL OF HIS NOTIONS FOR HIS FREAKY BOOKS? RIDING A WHITE HORSE…I THINK! LOL! LOL!

Ishmael | 9/18/2006, 5:00 pm EST

Why doesn’t this country just go ahead and legalize “minor-league” drugs like marijuana and mushrooms/acid? I mean, the worst thing that can happen with marijuana is you’ll have some short term memory loss or you might be convinced that the noise you hear outside is the cops coming up your steps (and hey, it might be), and the worst thing that will happen with mushrooms or acid is that your mind will temporarily unravel as your friend hands you a glass of orange juice, keeps you away from mirrors, and tells you that he doesn’t know where your mother is, but you’re not going to die. So, anyway…what was I saying? (It’s so hard to concentrate with all of these spiders crawling on my face). Oh, yeah. Leave Willie alone.

ConshoRocken | 9/18/2006, 4:36 pm EST

1.5 lbs and any boomers could put somebody away for a very long time. I think Johhny had to do something when that tour bus door opened and it looked like the Spiccoli van. Misdemeanors sound like a decent lawman to me…

cody | 9/18/2006, 4:33 pm EST

who the hell could possibly arrest a living legend?

Hashemite | 9/18/2006, 4:31 pm EST

Legalize it and Willie will advertise it … oh, wait, I think he already is.

Boner | 9/18/2006, 4:17 pm EST

what does lol mean?

The Real Big Dick | 9/18/2006, 4:16 pm EST

I’d feel like a real prick if I arrested Willie

Geoff | 9/18/2006, 4:03 pm EST

Come on its just marijuana and shrooms, its not like hes burning pictures of the Pope.

Long live Willy

Jordan | 9/18/2006, 4:02 pm EST

legalize all of it. Has this nation learned nothing from prohibition?

Hashemite | 9/18/2006, 4:02 pm EST

Yeah, watch out for that extremely dangerous 73 year-old with a guitar and a joint. He might be coming to town to corrupts your little children!!! LOL

TheCourtsAreAJOKE! | 9/18/2006, 3:56 pm EST

“misdemeanor citations!?!?” If I were caught with that sort of weight in pot and shrooms where I live…they’d bury me under the jail. What the fuck is up with THAT? How does that pesky Constitution explain that sort of discrepancy? Oh…and Buck Fush!

knuckles | 9/18/2006, 3:51 pm EST

mushies with Willie would be a blast!

Cock | 9/18/2006, 3:39 pm EST

And these pigs wonder why no one respects them.

Retropopzero | 9/18/2006, 3:35 pm EST

I think its that pesky Constitution that makes everyone accountable for the same laws. Sounds like George Bush’s doing…

Jes | 9/18/2006, 3:34 pm EST

there most definitely should be a law that says he’s exempt. he smoked on the roof of the whitehouse for crying out loud. if it didn’t matter there, why should it matter across the country?

Vagina | 9/18/2006, 3:34 pm EST

Wow, those pigs are really helping to protect and serve society.
