White Stripes on the Simpsons, Jet’s New Record Sorta Leaks, Noel Gallagher Shoots His Mouth Off

white stripes

  • All in all we thought the White Stripes’ appearance on The Simpsons last night was just okay. “The Hardest Button to Button” video reference was cute but the entire event was annoyingly short, leaving not enough time to examine Meg’s speaking voice. [via ProductShop]
  • Some very lucky British humans downloaded a free copy of the not-yet-released new Jet record on UK iTUnes over the weekend.
  • Warner agrees to give YouTube legal access to the label’s videos, in exchange for a cut of YouTube’s advertising budget. It’s lovely when everybody gets along.
  • Noel Gallagher is sick of giving interviews, blames his brother for shirking his share of the Oasis-promoting duties, and announces he’d never be a rock star anymore if it weren’t for the shitloads of money he gets paid to … give interviews in which he slags the job off.

That’ll be NOEL Gallagher, miss Goodman.

Billy Shears | 9/18/2006, 10:30 am EST

Yeah, Miss Goodman, please read well before publish a wrong information.
I think this things happen when the writer isn’t interested in the subject.

geez, when are oasis just going to do us all a favor and break up already

I don’t know that I’d classify anyone who gets a record by Jet to be “lucky,” free or not. There’s still that task of actually having to listen to Jet.

Lobsters | 9/18/2006, 1:23 pm EST

Fuck ya’ll, Oasis is cool. Go listen to Japancakes or whatever the fuck you dopes like.

I thought the White Stripes on the Simpsons was awesome. It was just an extended parody of “The Hardest Button to Button,” and the Whites’ appearance was totally ancillary to the plot, but it was — dare I say — cute, and funny to boot. I was actually surprised how long it was, considering it didn’t actually move the story along. Plus, how many of the viewers actually got the reference anyway? When I first heard that the WS were appearing on the Simpsons, I assumed there would be some lame plot about Bart and Lisa starting a band. But this was MUCH better than I anticipated. Even if the parody was a couple years old.

Oasis released two of the best albums in the 90s.

Liam punches a stewardess, Noel is sick of interviews.

Who gives a shit, they’re music is tight.

Mark Christopher Miotto | 9/18/2006, 5:24 pm EST

it doesn’t matter who does the press for the band, noel or liam or gem or andy for that matter, once they get on stage and 35,000 people are going crazy all that doesn’t matter

Matt | 9/18/2006, 6:11 pm EST

People care about Oasis and someone uses the word tight. It’s like a timewarp back to 1998.

Jordan | 9/18/2006, 6:34 pm EST

Ya ‘tight’ is so 1998. Oasis hit the scene in 1993 and made their biggest album in 1995.

Good work.

If I had to deal with Liam Gallagher for the past 30 years of my life I’d probably complain once in awhile too. That being said, Oasis is the best band of the past 15 years and Noel is the best songwriter in at least that long too. Don’t Believe The Truth was the best album of last year.

Three bands I actually like in the same Rock & Roll Daily? It’s a first!
