Whoa: Both pop-punkers New Found Glory and Lionel Richie have albums coming out next Tuesday entitled Coming Home. NFG released this statement in which they pledge to title their next record Dancing on the Ceiling if Richie doesn’t agree to discuss his next album title with the band before announcing it. We think they’re being really cool about this — we once wore the same color pants as our best friend to an 8th grade dance and she didn’t speak to us for an entire summer. Anyway: This scandal got us thinking about other album and song titles that belong to more than one artist. It’s Friday. We’re tired. We got Let It Be (Replacements and Beatles), Bad Moon Rising (Creeedence Clearwater Revival’s song and Sonic Youth’s album,) and Forever (Puff Daddy and The Spice Girls.) What else can you come up with?

If you’re gonna post about the same titles of songs and or “albums”,maybe back up it up with some release dates to show who used the title first. As for as the use of “Idelewild”, the Allman Brothers album title was “Idlewild South”.Circa 1971?

Devin the Dude released a CD of chopped & screwed Houston hip-hop that landed on Rolling Stone’s top 50 CDs of 2004 entitled “2 Tha X-Treme”, which, coincidentally, was pronounced the same as the eternally relevant 1991 CD by Vanilla Ice. But only one of those two classic CDs rewrote the rap rulebook forever, and allowed for a later meeting and song with the Ninja Turtles. Go ninja, go ninja, GO!
FordMaxwell | 9/16/2006, 5:11 am EST
Tell you what. . . If someone wants to reinvent the English language so that no English speaking human being can ever say something in the exact same way as the person before her, then we’ll bitch about different bands producing albums with the same title . . . Until then, New Found Glory, chill out – It’s not like “Coming Home” is some profound, singular statement – it’s no “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb,” you know.
TheMarlboroMan | 9/16/2006, 7:14 am EST

The Misfits (Beware of the Misfits!) and Green Day both have songs called “She,” and Metallica and U2 both have songs called “One,” and there are probably a few more songs called “One” that I just can’t bring to mind right now. Slayer and Hank Williams Sr. both wrote songs called Angel of Death. Bon Jovi, Poison, and the Ramones (Gabba Gabba Hey!) all have songs called Something to Believe In. Rancid (they don’t have their own catch phrase, but Rancid rules!) and Godsmack both have songs called Time Bomb.
And, though this probably shouldn’t count because it isn’t exactly the same, I bring it up because it’s an odd turn of phrase and it seems likely that the one was aware of the other: there was a Doors record called The Soft Parade, and there is a young band called Electric Soft Parade.

Chuck | 9/16/2006, 3:44 pm EST
Yeah, I agree with an earlier statement that it’s not like it’s a pround or unique enough album title to really be surprised someone else did it. Nobody would care except that it came out the same day. Maybe that’s why rappers spell everything wrong so that the rest of the people making intelligent music won’t copy by accident.
Chuck | 9/16/2006, 3:46 pm EST
Wait…they didn’t get released the same day…who cares now??

What about the song title “Stay”? IN 1992, ‘93, and ‘94, there were summertime #1 songs by Shakespeare’s Sister, U2, and Lisa Loeb, respectively, with that very title. I’m pretty sure that’s the only time that that’s happened in consecutive years.
