Mysterious Elliott Smith Tracks Leak Once Again

Elliott Smith

Ever since Elliott Smith passed away almost three years ago, an anonymous leaker has been planting tracks (mostly From a Basement on a Hill demo sessions) on message boards close to the anniversary of his death. This round brings us four new cuts, with no concrete confirmation on the era they were recorded — a crunchy electric ballad dubbed “From a Poisoned Well”, two stark, yet lush acoustic and vocal tracks “Talking to Mary” and “Let’s Turn the Record Over” and the eerie string and overdub driven “True Love,” which may have been recorded with producer Jon Brion. Keep these coming, romantic mystery leaker — we look forward to next year.

i have about 5-6 more that i will release between elliotts death and christmas if there is no announcement by his label that future releases are in the works. This will be my first and last warning! I also have the 3 previous 64 bit releases in true cd form that will be re-leaked!

I’m not fucking around! Let people hear elliotts music without interference!

G-man | 9/20/2006, 1:27 pm EST

This is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard

No one is rolling over in their graves, you fucking pricks. stop bitching and moaning. if any of you really liked music anyway you wouldn’t worry if they were going to be “put out officially”. and fuck labels, nobody owns music. losers. enjoy the music.
see you later.

Whoever “mel” is, he needs to go fuck himself and fucking die. This is what he said:

I FUKING LAUGHED WHEN THIS LOSER DIED!

egotist mike | 9/17/2006, 1:00 am EST

I imagine he would be happy to know that his music is being appreciated posthumously.

I wish whoever’s leaking these tracks would just put all of them together right and proper. Doesn’t anybody think Elliott is rolling over in his grave about now?

XO | 9/16/2006, 7:19 pm EST

wish he could have been around to master these. we miss you elliott…

divisionday | 9/16/2006, 5:10 pm EST

Thanks to the leakers. These are beautiful. If only those who own Elliott at Interscope would note the quality of these songs and allow them to be officially released…

TheKeenGuy | 9/16/2006, 12:12 pm EST

The article is incorrect in its assertion that this is all the result of a single anonymous leaker. These various leaks have come from multiple sources.

His sense of longing grabs me every time. Many, many thanks to: the ghost of elliott (or whomever’s posting these tracks), RS (and my son John, who saw the article and let me know) and to Paul Kemp, Charlie at Sweet Addy and all the other people working to get this stuff out to us. xo

Paul Kemp | 9/15/2006, 10:30 pm EST

I’m in the process of uploading these to my site right now (http://www.trashtreasury.com) . I’ve really got to organize my unreleased tracks collection better. I’m thinking alphabetical instead of by era, since there’s no real way to know when so many of them were really from, especially the “Basement II” recordings, many of which we know predated FABOTH by a long time…

Hope | 9/15/2006, 5:29 pm EST

I hope that one day all of these songs are properly released on a album, though that seems very unlikely.

Gary | 9/15/2006, 5:21 pm EST

very heartbreaking, i miss elliott so much. XO

Will, you can get the tracks on blue link in the paragraph.

i can’t get enough elliott, thank god for these tracks.

Will Fearless | 9/15/2006, 2:42 pm EST

Where can I get these tracks??

They should release an Elliott Smith live/rarities album. I think Elliott’s music is only going to continue to get more popular as time goes on.
