Eddie Van Halen Goes Bananas on Howard Stern: The Full Highlights

9/14/06, 1:31 pm EST

A few days ago we reported on Eddie Van Halen’s recent radio interview with Howard Stern, but nothing but a transcription can capture the true insanity of this exchange — it’s taken us hours and hours just to process Van Halen’s vitriolic comments about David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and how his 15-year old son Wolfgang is a better bass player than Michael Anthony. Let’s go straight to the highlights:

On curing his tongue cancer without chemo or radiation:

Eddie Van Halen: “I cured my cancer in a way that’s not exactly legal in this country. I’d tell you, but I don’t want to go to jail. When you drink your damn draino it just holds it at bay. It comes back. Cancer is like a cockroach. It just comes back stronger. I’m tearing apart the immune system of the cockroach and seeing how it ticks. I’ve opened up my own pathology center. Some of us open tequila bars in Mexico, I’m curing cancer. They cut a healthy piece of my tongue off and grew healthy cells outside of my body and tested them. I’m missing a third of my tongue. They butchered me. I didn’t quit smoking after I got tongue cancer cause smoking didn’t cause it.”

On a possible reunion with David Lee Roth:

HS: “Diamond David Lee Roth never wanted piano in Van Halen.”
EVH: “You mean cubic zirconia?”
HS: “You’re never going to do a reunion with him, are you?”
EVH: “Ummm…You know, I’m open to anything.”
HS: “Really? He makes it seem like you are never open…”
EVH: “In 2000 Alex and I tried to pull something together with him.”
HS: “What happened? You couldn’t stand being around him?”
EVH: “No, the guys’s a loose cannon – but I can deal with loose cannons.”
Robin: “Everyone says you’re the problem.”
EVH: “Yeah, because I don’t respond or talk about this stuff.”

On Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony’s current Sans Halen tour:

EVH: “Michael Sobolewski [Michael Anthony’s real last name] is out touring with ‘the little red rocker’ … I mean the little red worm. I got no problem with these guys, but they’re billing themselves as the other half of Van Halen. My brother is the other half of Van Halen. They’re out there selling hot sauce and tequila and playing all my songs. It doesn’t bother me. It just makes them a cover band.”

On the porno movie he wrote two songs for:

EVH: “I don’t call it porn. I call it sex. It’s like Braveheart with a cum shot. Everyone’s giving me their dweeb opinion about this – but without sex you wouldn’t be here to give me your dweeb opinion.”

On his new girlfriend:

EVH: “I have a girlfriend. Her name’s Janie. She’s a press agent…You’re damn right she’s super hot. We met at a press conference. We’ve been together two months.”

On his fifteen-year-old son Wolfgang joining Van Halen:

EVH: “My son Wolfgang plays drums, guitars and bass. This kid is fucking dangerous. If I excel at the speed of sound, he excels at the speed of light. My brother goes, ‘This is the first time I’ve had bass in my headphones.’ He’s only fifteen years old and he’s getting laid. He’s spanking it too.”
HS: “How do you know that?”
EVH: “When you spend 45 minutes in the bathroom you’re not taking a shower. … Valerie and I have joint custody of Wolfgang. For the last couple of weeks Alex, he and I have been jamming together.”
HS: “You wouldn’t go back on the road with Hagar, would you?”
EVH: “I’m pretty much open to anything. What’s going to happen is that there’s a new member of Van Halen, and that is my son.”
HS: “I’m hearing your son is in and Michael Anthony is out.”
EVH: “My son is in and Sobolewski can do whatever he wants. The name Van Halen, the family legacy, is going to go on long after I’m gone. This kid is just a natural. I’m going to have him play on a solo record, and it’s going to be out – he and I.”

Oh yeah, Eddie loves Wolfgang NOW. But ten years from now he’ll be screaming about how much he hates his guts. What a fuckin’ creep.

andrew | 9/14/2006, 2:32 pm EST

Van Halen is washed up. The fact that Eddie keeps smoking after he had cancer shows he is a moron.

Van Hagar | 9/14/2006, 2:36 pm EST

Is Eddie still alive, I thought he was done after 1986…

rockstar70 | 9/14/2006, 2:40 pm EST

Eddie is soooooo out of his mind!!

Schultz | 9/14/2006, 2:40 pm EST

Me makes DLR sound reasonable…

rockstar70 | 9/14/2006, 2:45 pm EST

David lee Roth is the perfect person for these guys because he is as crazy as they are!!

Andy | 9/14/2006, 2:58 pm EST

Eddie didn’t mention his HIV??? Wonder why he’ll discuss his cancer, but not his other diseases…

Ass Man | 9/14/2006, 3:00 pm EST

Eddie has HIV?

jungleland | 9/14/2006, 3:01 pm EST

Too bad Wolfie isn’t a singer / bassist…then Ed, Al and Wolfgang could do a “Van Halen Family” record…ha!

They have screwed over Mike Anthony in a HUGE way… and he is one of the coolest people I have ever met ( Ok I met him for about 5 minutes). He appears to have a blast whatever he is doing, he’s into cars, food, cool music, has a fantastic singing voice…yet he barely was allowed to participate in the Van Hagar reunion and did not play on the new tracks and GOT PAID LESS than the other guys on the tour (or that’s what Mike says)….they are not Van Halen without Mike!

Jonah | 9/14/2006, 3:01 pm EST

Is it me, or does Eddie kinda look like Charles Manson in that picture?

ERik | 9/14/2006, 3:04 pm EST

La oooh Zer

VH has been dead for decades.
Why should we care now?

Matthew | 9/14/2006, 3:22 pm EST

They should go on that Rock Star show and dig up a lead singer. Watching a 15 year old critique adult singers would be HYSTERICAL.

robert | 9/14/2006, 3:34 pm EST

van halen fucking blows anyway so who cares

Daniel L. | 9/14/2006, 3:41 pm EST

Lobsters comments are hilarious. Only because they will probally be true. Let’s be honest though Michael Anthony is one of the luckiest individuals in the world. Play your Jack Daniels bass and count your blessings.

Richard | 9/14/2006, 4:01 pm EST

Why in the world would he mention publicly that his 15 year old is getting laid and “jerking it”?

What kind of parent says that kind of crap about their kid on a national radio show?

Now he’s “cured” cancer?

And smoking “doesn’t cause it”?

It just goes to show that this guy is WAY far gone.

I think we’ve all been under the dellusion that it was the SINGERS that were the problem with Van Halen.

But the more times go by – I think it’s becoming perfectly clear that THIS IDIOT may have been the culprit after all.

Eddie Van Halen is a pathetic drunk.

KEN VAIL JR | 9/14/2006, 4:06 pm EST

I still love EDDIE all the same. He might of said some of this to get a laugh or 2-who knows? I just wish he’d put out some new music-it doesn’t have to be in the traditional format of van halen-maybe an instrumental lp…or like the way santana did a few years back??? I wish him well all the same, cause he’s still one of the greats.

strange bob | 9/14/2006, 4:15 pm EST

eddie can kiss my ass. who cares? you think valerie would actually let her son tour with this drunken idiot? at least dave, sammy and michael are all performing and having fun.

mr. cutter | 9/14/2006, 4:29 pm EST

I wish you posted EVH comments about Hendrix & Clapton. I heard the whole interview on Sirius. I believe he also said his cancer was caused by guitars picks & radio waves!

nurserock1 | 9/14/2006, 4:30 pm EST

I read this book today, its called: “The guidebook to tearing up the last shreds of your dignity and integrity(if you ever had any)” by Eddie Van Halen.
What moron loser suckass brags about his kid getting laid and “whacking it” at 15? An alcoholic trashbag washed up former rock star thats who…
What a piece of human dung….

Betta Recognize.... | 9/14/2006, 4:30 pm EST

Oh so Eddie cured his cancer with Meth? Sweet! It’s no longer the epedemic amongst the bored and poor, but a magical cure! I’m gonna go cook some up right now, just to keep cancer at bay…..

Hugh Juhkauck | 9/14/2006, 4:31 pm EST

Eddie should start a new band with Wolfgang, Alex, Jason Bonham,
Sean Lennon, and Kelly Osbourne and they could call themselves
“We Suck Balls Out Loud”

…or not.

Zonker | 9/14/2006, 4:41 pm EST

He’ll be dead in 5 years.

nic | 9/14/2006, 4:44 pm EST

Well, you’ve got to take into account that he said all of this on Howard Stern’s radio program, and his guests are encouraged to act outrageous…

Eddie is still one of the best guitarists…evah! \m/

chokingtara | 9/14/2006, 5:07 pm EST

…who in the fuck is eddie van halen?…

DavidGee | 9/14/2006, 5:13 pm EST

What a cancerous asshole. Why would anybody still like this guy? Say what you want about DLR, but at least he, and definitely Sammy and Michael are a lot more respectful toward their audience.

PinkPick | 9/14/2006, 5:21 pm EST

I hate to admit it, but he’s really nothing without Diamond Dave. There’s nothing charismatic about the way he acts. Look at him, he’s recruiting his own son for his damn washed up band. There’s no way anybody can pick up the peices to this once great band, it’s just broken beyond repair and the machine’s been dead for over 20 years.

Edward Van Douche Bag | 9/14/2006, 5:34 pm EST

After the Gary Cherone debacle, whats next? Is Chrissy Hynde next on the list? Maybe give David Coverdale a call …at this point the legacy of cool music is waaaayy down the shitter. KUDOS ED…way to fuck over the fans YET AGAIN.

dan | 9/14/2006, 5:37 pm EST

i think eddie is still pretty cool. that cancer shit is obviously bullshit, but i just wish they would all get together with roth again.
also, i’d prefer M.A. than his son playing bass. it just wouldnt be a reunion without michea.

Klaatu | 9/14/2006, 5:49 pm EST

Very sad. Wolfgang enters rehab in 3-2-1…

/hope I’m wrong

LongWhip | 9/14/2006, 5:58 pm EST

Eddie was the whole reason why myself and everyone wanted to play guitar. I could not wait to hear the tones and tricks and tapping stuff he would come up with. After seeing his solo spot over and over again, I realize he could not come up with more than he already has because that is it…it is what it is…and it is over. When you become a narcisist YOU think everyone around you is the problem and this interview is case in point. What decent “Father” brags on his son getting laid at 15? Valerie needs full custody before he fucks this kid up. Go rest on your past Eddie, and your reign is over. Music has sold without you being at the top…get used to cutting everyone off that has supported you..You half tongued, ONE armed, ONE man band. Call Me…NOT!!!

ajp | 9/14/2006, 6:04 pm EST

Eddie, you are pathetic.

Hernandez | 9/14/2006, 6:13 pm EST

Well, we all know now that his son spends 45 minutes in the bathroom “jerking it”
Way to go!

Yeshua | 9/14/2006, 6:16 pm EST

Poor Eddie!!! He needs a SAVIOUR, i hope he find Him before his last breath… imho he’ll always be a one-of-a-kind world class guitar great, i mean come-on cus of him VH was the only band that ever came out headlining after their 1st record and he was only playing 3yrs when the first record was recorded, to bad the world beat him into the man he is today. Please pray for him, might wanta add Howard Stern to that list as well, thanks… Blessings, mike

Joe | 9/14/2006, 6:16 pm EST

EVH is on meth.. look at his picture!

CaboNabo | 9/14/2006, 6:17 pm EST

How about Eddie & Ax’l get together and form “Guns & Halen”?! They could tour under the moniker: “The Most Pissed off Band in Rock N’ Roll!”

cure gastroparesis | 9/14/2006, 6:49 pm EST

eddie’s a legend- ease off him a bit

JeffSpicoli | 9/14/2006, 7:01 pm EST

Wait, did Eddie lose half his brain, or his tounge? I am confused?!?!

Guitarman5150 | 9/14/2006, 7:02 pm EST

Ya know, I have always thought the world of Eddie. But lately I think his cheese is begining to slide off his cracker.

Some of the things he has been saying and doing don’t make alot of sence.

I pray the man gets some help soon.

Wishbone | 9/14/2006, 7:15 pm EST

Valerie needs to get Wolfgang away from this fucking idiot. What a miserable excuse for a human being!

Rrowr | 9/14/2006, 7:22 pm EST

Y’all care way too much about Eddie Van Halen…it makes me sad. I mean, this ain’t Dylan, or even Tom Petty…this guy plays “Hot For Teacher”…I mean, c’mon.

Van Halen can, should and (obviously) is doing what he wants. Dave Roth looks like my creepy Uncle Cock Roach…he’s the flava flave of rock. And Sammy Hagar can’t drive 55, for chrissakes…I’m sure crazy Eddie Van Halen is much better keeping it in the family.

Oh, and why can’t Christians use correct grammar? Or even spell? Maybe you should ask people to pay for you to go back to school…instead of praying for Eddie to find God?

max | 9/14/2006, 7:34 pm EST

rollingstone sucks ass!!!

Wishbone | 9/14/2006, 8:26 pm EST

Yeshua – with all due respect, the world did not beat EVH into what he is today. He managed to make a shambles of his life all by his lonesome – maybe a little help from the booze, coke and meth. As far as prayer – I’m sure Valerie tried that for the 20+ years she managed to stay with this pathetic loser.

agentdekes | 9/14/2006, 8:28 pm EST

van halen was officially afer what became the farewell tour back in 1995…..
once a fine live recording and studio act now a complete waste of everyone’s time…
too bad……….

agentdekes | 9/14/2006, 8:30 pm EST

van halen was officially over after what became the farewell tour back in 1995 with the balance c.d…..
once a fine live recording and studio act now a complete waste of everyone’s time…
too bad……….

Matt | 9/14/2006, 8:52 pm EST

Anything to write about over the hill rock stars huh?

R&RCanada | 9/14/2006, 9:10 pm EST

I’m not surprised all this is from Rolling Stone and its’ readers. The blind leading the morons. I heard the interview and Ed sounded fine. Howard et al was cool with him. Rolling Stone is a disgrace to Rock and Roll. All those Zep albums trashed remember? Fuck you all.

Misfit | 9/14/2006, 9:20 pm EST

He’s a genius. He’s entitled to being a little fucked up.

seminalfluid | 9/14/2006, 9:26 pm EST

Why was he even asked to do an interview? Is Stern that hard up for guests? He hasn’t done a goddamn thing in 10 years so why should anyone give a rats ass what he’s been up to? Eddie, just play your guitar and shut the fuck up!!

Mike | 9/14/2006, 9:31 pm EST

Eddie – you”d better WAKE UP fast – you’re well outta options. You can only walk on folks and fans for so long. The world over, prefers Diamond Dave in the band, always has! The only reason you guys succeeded w/Sammy is cos Sam’s in a class all his own. Wolfgang will be as narrowminded as his pimpin’ dad – he’ll dump your ass eventually, if he makes it at all. I refuse to buy anymore VH cds w/out David Lee Roth on them – past, present or future.

Mike | 9/14/2006, 9:35 pm EST

P/S. B/t/w Eddie – YOU are the cancer in the band.

Tom | 9/14/2006, 9:42 pm EST

Should’ve kept the personal comments about his son to himself. We all know that 96% of the male population do it, 3% lie and say they sing in the shower, and 1% have no sense of rhythm. Just get back to creating ass kickin’ rocknroll

V | 9/14/2006, 9:55 pm EST

He is still the most influential guitarist since Hendrix.

Sixie | 9/14/2006, 10:14 pm EST

EVH can do anything he wants in music. Talent is not missing, maybe a little guidence,eh. How about giving Mr. Pete Townshend a call about playing lead and rhythem. Seems Pete is doing quite well these days…

pflo | 9/14/2006, 10:22 pm EST

eds dead.

SternManiac | 9/14/2006, 10:58 pm EST

EVH also said that Hendrix is the most overrated guitarist in the history of the world, and that anyone could hae done what Hendrix did as long as they had the right kind of pedals.

Also claimed that he is superior to both Hendrix and Clapton in talent and influence.

Rob | 9/14/2006, 11:06 pm EST

Can someone please tell me what is so good about the band Van Halen? They SUCK!!! Every song is rubbish, and to say that he is as influential as Hendrix is blatant crap.

Marty | 9/14/2006, 11:07 pm EST

This guy is an egotistical wanker. His music is total rubbish, and he has got nothing on Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Deniz Tek, …should i go on? F*ck off and die Van Halen!

Wishbone | 9/14/2006, 11:09 pm EST

Jimi Hendrix will ALWAYS be superior to this putz. Same with Clapton who is still recording and touring while EVH is scoring porn flicks. Oh, the irony of it all!

Brian | 9/14/2006, 11:10 pm EST

EVH has lost any sense of reality. I too am an oral cancer survivor. Smoking and alochol are KNOWN causes of the disease. This guy is in nothing more than denial. I’m sure the docs that did save his life this go around in Houston are really pleased to hear that he thinks he cured it hiimself. Most people that continue with the tobacco and alcohol after treatment have recurrences… which are hell on earth, and few survive. This guy, at a point in time was a guitar master, now he’s just a loser. But he was never a Hendrix. That guy make sounds that had never been heard before, and as to Clapton, Eddie should take notes on what it is to be a timeless icon, something he will never be.

mike | 9/14/2006, 11:18 pm EST

Aww the sadness, this guy is still gonna go down in history as an innovative guitarist, despite how f*ckin’ stupid he is. That is truly sad.

bojack 786 | 9/14/2006, 11:43 pm EST

caca

bojack 786 | 9/14/2006, 11:44 pm EST

Eddie is alive and well i mean the guy smokes

bojack 786 | 9/14/2006, 11:45 pm EST

i would smoke 2 if i could cure cancer

bojack 786 | 9/14/2006, 11:47 pm EST

hey eddie my band needs a soloiste

Melissa | 9/15/2006, 12:09 am EST

Eddie is a hunk! I think most of the bashers are just jealous. Eddie is definatley one of the greatest guitarist ever! Sure he’s aged but he is still lean, just look at those abs and pecs! I have met all the vh guys and let me tell you if there was a narcisist of the group it was Dave not Eddie. Keep on rockin Eddie I still support you.

Devpow | 9/15/2006, 12:16 am EST

It is truly a shame that Ed has apparently lost his marbles and in a very public way. He obviously needs some help, but unfortunately he needs to make that decision himself. An alcoholic & oral cancer survivor wouldn’t be drinking and smoking if they were in their right mind. Ed, get it together brother.

Laurens from Indonesia | 9/15/2006, 12:20 am EST

And he is half Indonesian! Cool isn’t it?

Rob | 9/15/2006, 12:24 am EST

Here is a sad reality check. Eddie’s f*ucked up life is still probably 75,000 times cooler than all of our lives put together. Now if you will excuse me I think I’ll go and take some anti-depressants now, goodnight.

Studio Guy | 9/15/2006, 12:35 am EST

Not a fanboy here. I know EHV and have been around the VH camp at one time or another for over 20 years. The sad truth is that Ed was one of the most influential musicians ever. Insecurity got the best of him, and he’s now on the downward spiral. His beef with Mike is beacuse Mike wants to play and is tired of screwing around with the VH drama merry go round. Mike’s playing with other people – Sammy, Neil Zaza, etc.

Don’t be surprised if Mike surfaces with Roth and a killer guitarist and drummer who’s names aren’t Van Halen.

Dick | 9/15/2006, 3:21 am EST

Ed. Please put down the crack pipe and sober up for a change.

Mr. Tim | 9/15/2006, 3:30 am EST

“Jump” was fun.
“Pretty Woman” was a guilty pleasure

“Why Can’t this be Love” was a solid pop song.

A band with three good songs.

Mr. Tim | 9/15/2006, 3:31 am EST

Oh, and Eddie looks like DeNiro in Cape Fear.

trueVHfan | 9/15/2006, 5:12 am EST

Ed get with it, wolfie joining VH is cool but the truth is that Mike is part of the REAL VAN HALEN and helped get VH the ICON status. DONT LOSE THE REAL VAN HALEN

Masturbator | 9/15/2006, 5:28 am EST

Eddie thinks his son is wacking it in the bathroom, since he spends 45 minutes at a time in there. This is just speculation. My parents thought the same thing about me when I was young. It turns out that I just used to take long showers and long shits.

Atomic Punk | 9/15/2006, 5:49 am EST

ROCK ON Edward!!!

vangod | 9/15/2006, 7:01 am EST

Eddie still rules! The Mighty Van Hale will return and kick the world in the ASS!!!

Whatever | 9/15/2006, 7:42 am EST

I didn’t hear the show. I just read the article hear. But if he thinks he is better than anyone then he is a huge egomaniac. He is a great guitarist and it is a shame his body of work is so small because I think there could’ve been so much more if he wasn’t a crazy bastard. I personally believe he is ONE of the most influential guitarists in rock history. I like VH with Diamond Dave and Sammy. Talking about his son like that shows that he thinks of his son more as a party hound he likes hanging with rather than a son. I’m a father and when my son gets that age I’ll still be a father to him and not his connection or his pimp. Come on Ed grow up!!!! I believe that he has been the main problem with VH throughout the years. Not that others in the group didn’t contribute. Dave is certifiably insane also. But I haven’t heard any far out claims of cancer curing from him either. He’s difinately full of himself but that seems to be about it. If Ed really thinks that he cured his cancer and it was caused from metal picks or pissin’ in the wind or whatever then is a freak. Van Halen will never again be. At least not the way it should be. But I’m still hoping for some stellar performances from that crazy little bastard known as Eddie Van Halen. I’m just hoping that I don’t have to hear or read anymore of this crap from him.

mike t | 9/15/2006, 7:52 am EST

As far as i’m concerned, VH finished for good after For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge…the last 15 years should just be forgotten!

R.I.P. Van Halen

daniel | 9/15/2006, 8:14 am EST

man, this is really sad. it’s kinda like Hagar said years ago, ‘there’s a circle of people around pointing at you as the problem and you’re pointing back saying everyone else is’ (paraphrased, of course).

The comment about his kid getting laid and jerking it are proof that Valerie needs full custody of this kid.

Another great talent thrown down the drain. I really hope he gets the REAL help he needs.

WillieBee | 9/15/2006, 8:30 am EST

One word: Intervention.

This guy has totally lost it. Read some interviews from the the late 70’s/80’s and it’s just a totally derranged person speaking now. How sad, I don’t know if I’d ever started with music 20 years ago if not for this chap–he needs help desperately.

Meatwad | 9/15/2006, 8:40 am EST

EVH needs some serious help. You hate to see a guitar God wasting away, but that seems to be the case.

At least Sammy Hagar is still touring and selling tequila. What are you doing EVH, besides sitting in your mansion smoking dope?

Rich | 9/15/2006, 8:58 am EST

What a waste…

When I was in high school in the early 80’s, VH ruled. No one played liked Eddie. he had chops and influenced a whole list of 80’s guitarists.

Now we can see it wasn’t Sammy or Diamond Dave…

Ed-check yourself into the Betty Ford Clinic or Hazelden.

Rocko | 9/15/2006, 9:04 am EST

What a waste…

Eddie was the prolific guitarist of his time. In the 80’s no one could touch Ed – he influenced a whole generation of guitarists.

Hey Ed – check yourself into the Betty Ford Clinic!

Brian | 9/15/2006, 9:13 am EST

EVH is a shmuck and another way-past-his-time performer who can’t comprehend that a new VH disc the way he envisions it won’t sell shit. With Roth it would sell because of the shock factor alone. That’s the only way it would work. But I really don’t think anything else this guy does will matter. Fact is, most kids today probably have no idea who VH is. For most kids, that band is irrelevant.

It’s also really a shame to see what he’s doing to his son and what behavior he condones. Yes, I’m sure most 15-year-old boys are doing the same thing, but to have his dad not only discuss it but practically endorse it makes him a sure-fire stop on the list of a social worker somewhere. EVH is a pathetic life form who should lock himself away with his millions and never go outside again. He’s this out of touch as it is, so what would it hurt?

Erik E Erik | 9/15/2006, 9:24 am EST

Listen Sobelewski in or out, Wolfgang in or out… Eddie, no one really cares! The real question on everyone’s lips is: Is Gary Cherone back in? The envious Red Rocker better not start covering songs from the VH III album on his tour! We all know who the REAL voice of VH is!

Another_Nobody | 9/15/2006, 9:26 am EST

Sorry guys, but I’ll take Ed’s side on this one. Who the hell are all of you to have an opinion ?
Survive Cancer lately have you ?
And to juge someone base don an Howard Stern show of all things ??
Wow, now that’s American Culture…
Bravo.

Darren5150 | 9/15/2006, 9:27 am EST

How the mighty have fallin’! What kinda gold diggin’ beeotch would date a nasty troll with 67% of his tongue like eddie???

Hey Ed- got tooth brush??

darren x-fan | 9/15/2006, 9:31 am EST

Someone tell me how Gary Cherone left the band and eddies nut pissing all over him???

my guess is the eddie blacked out during VH3, woke up one day and asked Gary who he was….. Gary left.

intrepid5150 | 9/15/2006, 9:34 am EST

Ed…ummm eddie, it’s me God. We’ve known each other for a while now, and you have been using my name, but I must draw the the line on this porn stuff.
P.S – Ur cancer is in ur ass now, because its already rotted off your penis and balls, and since u have no spine it needed to go somewhere. So ummm you take care and I’ll strike u down later , Love God

Ed Rules | 9/15/2006, 9:36 am EST

Have you sissies ever tried to play a guitar ever? Shut the f**k up, then, you “he is overrated” bashers. Ed is to 80’s rock guitar what Jimi was in the 60’s/70’s. I never thought that so many Christina Aguilera’s or Britney’s fanboys could ever open up and speak about music. B4 you flame me for nothing, sorry for the language, I’m foreign. I hope you speak a better Italian than my english if you care. Go Ed, come back sober and rise again.

jayson waits | 9/15/2006, 9:37 am EST

I love eddie. I mean love him. His warm mouth, his wet lips, those tight buns…. WHy won’t you love me…. I can give you so much love, lust and happiness…..

Tunglose? | 9/15/2006, 9:40 am EST

If he’s so open to everything open that mouth and lets see that forked tongue.

jason waits | 9/15/2006, 9:40 am EST

Mike | 9/15/2006, 9:41 am EST

Does anyone remember the end of the Hot for Teacher video where they show everyone’s future? Roth is a game show host & Anthony is sumo wrestling, but they also show Eddie in a nuthouse. Seems like they had that one right all along.

Ed Rules | 9/15/2006, 9:43 am EST

I finally see what your problem is in America, guys…. Too much talkshow crap, this forum seems one of those ‘myformerhusbandwithhisnewfian ceeandmeandmysoninthesamestudi oshitthrowingparade’. Play guitar, read, have sex, go shopping, whatever. Wasn’t it baseball your national pastime ? Now it’s became blabbermouthing?

daemon | 9/15/2006, 9:56 am EST

damn.this dude is fucked up…

Wishbone | 9/15/2006, 10:14 am EST

No one is disputing the fact that EVH was the most innovative guitarist of the 80’s. The ability to play a guitar, however, does not exempt anyone from decent behavior.
The comments he made about his son are despicable. Perhaps the press agent girlfriend can give him some solid advice about shutting his pie hole!

Morbid Angel | 9/15/2006, 10:14 am EST

EVH is simply the best guitar player that has ever lived . . .

gtrguru | 9/15/2006, 10:20 am EST

Eddie always was a self centered little whiner, but what he did for generations of guitar players shouldn’t be compromised just cause he’s lost it. He’s been torturing VH fans for years why are we so surprised?

Snoop | 9/15/2006, 10:35 am EST

This is soooooo sad. I don’t think Eddie is going to be around that much longer. It’s too bad that the government (or his remaining friends and family)can’t put this guy into a mental hospital for some much needed help. RIP, Van Halen.

K | 9/15/2006, 11:05 am EST

EVH is the problem in van halen, but he also IS van halen. He’s said the same shit about dave as he did sammy way back when it still mattered. EVH infuence on guitar cannot be dispuited but no he’s not even close to hendrix.

Wishbone | 9/15/2006, 11:07 am EST

hey there “Ed Rules” -
Yep, baseball is still our national pasttime. In Italy, it’s soccer, isn’t it? Whatever!
The fact is that if this moron hadn’t called in to Howard Stern’s show, this forum would not even be here, would it?

Anonymous | 9/15/2006, 11:28 am EST

He’ll be dead in 10 years

smileznlaughs | 9/15/2006, 12:04 pm EST

missing thoses magic sounds that ed played so awesomely well !. van halen was great in the beginning , saw them with hagar and while thay were good wasnt the same . keep smiling boys . and as for playing again together, who knows. let’s hope so .

Hugh Juhkauck | 9/15/2006, 12:05 pm EST

Dear Dad,

The reason I am in the bathroom for 45 minutes is because I’m shooting heroin into my scrotum, so that I can make it through the day with you. I don’t even like your tired music. I just play bass so that you will shut your crazy cake hole and leave me the fuck alone.
Now if you need me, I’ll be in the bathroom rubbing one out while I listen to the Clay Aiken Christmas Album.
Love
-Wolfgang

Love cup | 9/15/2006, 12:48 pm EST

This has givin’ me some good laughs.Eddie should only comment on his sons music abilities nothing else. Van Halen could be falling apart that would suck. They need David Lee Roth for a shot in the arm to get back to where they belong. Sammy did good music with them, but now it’s time for him to move on. Rock-on Van Halen!! :)

Bubba ORLY? | 9/15/2006, 1:20 pm EST

It’s official. Eddie Van Halen is a Scientologist. He’s not acting any different than Tom Cruise. Either that or he’s taking public relations classes from Michael Jackson.

MM | 9/15/2006, 2:02 pm EST

On September 11, 2006, Eddie Van Halen announced he was no longer angry with David Lee Roth and that they might play a couple of shows. Unfortunately, he is now angry at Michael Anthony, the bass player of Van Halen.

Mike | 9/15/2006, 2:18 pm EST

Petty and Dylon Suck balls.
The only Dylon song I like is the version of Watchtower he’s not on. Go listen to some more Jewel poetry boy.

Petty music is boring beginner guitar 3 min pop crap. Yeah VH played some of the 3 min pop stuff too,Pretty woman, Jump, ect.. but then there’s the instrumental guitar Vituoso Stuff. Like Eruption, Spanish fly, and the techniques he brought with them that everyone tried to copy. I see kids who are into classic rock, wearing VH, ACDC shirts to school. They’ll be playing VH on the the Radio 100 years from now when
nobody remembers you or me.

Tha being said, the comment about his son were wrong.

His impact on tchnology and tone is well documented. Just do a search on PTP Marshalls and see which one most want to build.

YEAHwhatever | 9/15/2006, 7:03 pm EST

Eddie was a pop icon guys, never even close to being the best guitarist of his time. I laughed when Dave came out with Steve Vai as guitarist … Vai crucifies Eddie. And if you don’t think Dave had anything to do with “Eddie’s” songs, then where did the music go when Dave left? To pussytown USA, that’s where. It is great if Eddie really is cured of cancer … hope so. So enjoy his music, his cool ripping licks, and leave it at that. Go listen to Allan Holdsworth or Guthrie Govan or Joe Bonamassa if you need a new hero … incidentally, Holdsworth was pronounced by Eddie himself as the best …

Mike | 9/16/2006, 3:04 pm EST

VAI is boring. His tone sucks, and has nowhere near dynamics, and Vai is not a feel player like EVH. VAI is faster, but EVH wasn’t just about being fast. If that was the measuring stick then Michael Angelo Batio is the best guitarists of all time. Go read some more of your Justin Timberlake episode of Rolling stone. He’s more of your type of music. That and Clay Aiken music.

Harry | 9/16/2006, 5:25 pm EST

Eddie doesn`t seem to realise that his best work was with Dave . Sammy fans will disagree but the reality is Dave has been out of the band for over 20 years and he`s still the lead singer . The songs with Dave are just plain and simple better than van hagar . DLR era songs have aged like a fine wine van hagar songs have aged like a journey record.

Wishbone | 9/16/2006, 5:55 pm EST

Is Steve Vai a sloppy drunk? A pathetic meth head, perhaps? Does he pimp out his kids? Just wondering…..

Bob | 9/16/2006, 6:23 pm EST

Nice glasshouse wishbone.

Mel | 9/16/2006, 6:39 pm EST

Dave Sharman! now that’s a great guitarist! and he has always rated Eddie as his no 1 influence, Sure Ed has said some pretty spaced out stuff but give the guy a break, he’s been through alot, and let’s not forget all the great music Van Halen has given us. I hope he pulls it round & we get the classic lineup on more time.

Jack C | 9/16/2006, 7:20 pm EST

If Rolling Stone ranks Eddie as 75th on the best guitarist list, they must know nothing about guitar. If this is true, I’d like to see if they ranked begginner guitarists like the guy from Green Day over him. That would really prove they have their heads lodged firmly up their rears musicly, and need to just stick to stuff they know like, left wing political spin, and Britney Spears, Ryan Seacrest.

Seb | 9/16/2006, 7:31 pm EST

Eddie Van Halen IS the MOST influencial guitarist since Hendrix, for me without doubt the greatest guitarist of ALL time, You see kiddies it’s NOT just about how fast you can play or technical ability (note YEAHwhatever!) it’s about the impact you have on other players & non players alike. He wasn’t voted the Greatest of ALL time by readers of Guitar Player magazine for no good reason. Sure there are other great players like Holdsworth or Vai or that new guy Dave Sharman. But without Ed non of it would be the same. OK he seems to have a personality prob at the moment (years of hard drink n’ drugs takes its toll) but let’s not question the man’s influence & achievement, anyone who does is just jealous and misses the whole point!

Rock & Roll Fan | 9/16/2006, 9:33 pm EST

It`s like Diamond Dave said on the 1st record. We came here to entertain you , you say we aggravate you don`t you see it means the same to me.That pretty much sums up what a real rock and roll band does. THEY JUST WANT TO ROCK !!! The original Van Halen just can`t be touched .

Dave P | 9/17/2006, 11:57 am EST

Cant wait for the new EVH solo CD its been long over do and now that its Eddie, Al and Wofie now we can all relax.

Michael A | 9/17/2006, 1:55 pm EST

If those 2 songs off that porn/sexy flix are any indication on where Eddie solo record is heading it`s going to be a huge letdown a bigger let down than VH3..Ed just keeps chipping away at the Van Halen legend . His music has become more and more generic and bland the older he gets

DH | 9/17/2006, 5:58 pm EST

EDDIE ROCKS.

I’ve seen Van Halen live 11 times.I’ve never seen them with Roth. This has to happen!!!!!!!!
I’ve put alot of my time and $ into this band. Eddie, your fans will always be here for you and I think you know that, but you gotta get something going here. Give Dave a call and hit the road!!!! What are you waiting for!

Stash | 9/18/2006, 1:34 pm EST

The fact that EVH is a dink does not diminish his accomplishments as one of the most influential guitarists ever…ya don’t have to like the guy, but man can he play!!!

Eddie should just give the fans what they want a dvd of prime Live Van Halen 1977 thru 1984.When they were in there prime and the Kings of BIGROCK. They will never capture what they once had .It`s been all down hill since Balance. Eddie can still play like a man posessed . But his new music isn`t what is was . All the greats did there best work when there were young and hungry .Listening to the new tunes from the porn movie prove that. R.I.P

Jr's Grade's | 9/18/2006, 9:28 pm EST

All you hendrix fans listen up!!! His guitar work over the years has been grossly overrated, because #1- he is dead, #2- he was black , #3- cause all the politically correct musicians out there that are afraid to tell it like it is when it comes to this gimmick laiden noisemaker. Guitar players who idolize this pentatonic bore, do it because they do not have the disipline, or the skills to advance their playing any further, So when they bust out that same sloppy version of purple haze as the feedback king did all those years ago, all you musical misfits go WOW was that hendrix??? Eddie took us all beyond that trash that was killing rock music in 78. He forced us to look at the guitar in ways that Hendrix or Clapton or Page could never even dream of. face it all you rootsy blues based chumps, you only like it cause you cant play the hard stuff.

Britney | 9/18/2006, 10:18 pm EST

Who care`s about some washed up old guitar player ?? The Fall Out Boys are way better musicians and looking .Pete is soooo cute !!

hendrizzle | 9/19/2006, 12:10 am EST

who is the idiot that said hendrix was not technically good. bs… I saw him live and in his prime and he stood up as technically proficient as anyone at the time. If you examine what jimi did, there was far more than pentatonic. Yes, I think hendrix was the best and I have seen holdsworth, halen, blackmore, gilbert and others. I’m an old dude who did sweeps and arpeggios etc back in the 80’s …. I think you are missing the point a hole.

sublime9071 | 9/19/2006, 2:09 am EST

holy fucking shit i cant believe someone just said fallout boy is better than van halen i think im going to go die now, music and peoples music opinions have gone to hell, emo music needs to end

Jason Briggs | 9/19/2006, 4:57 am EST

Hendrix wrote so many amazing songs … fantastic words and beautiful melodies great dresser broke alot of new ground for people that followed did a hell of alot in 3 years . he was a one man army .

Noah | 9/19/2006, 7:07 am EST

simply said… GOD is ED!!!

MightyMike | 9/19/2006, 7:15 am EST

I’m not suprised by some of the VH basher posters,or even shredders who’s leads sound like scale excercises, who can’t see past the pentatonic boredom to embrace the feel of the music, learn how to play it live, and find out why Hendrix (or blues in general) is a style that Vai and Yngwie with all their wizardry can’t play for the life of them..But SRV could…Hrmm…. Music isn’t better or worse based on the speed or complexity. The feel, they way they bend their notes, or hit the same note from different areas, use open strings, and multiple strings, can make their styles as hard to master as any style..

The Rolling stone employee who pulled that 100 greatist guitarist list out of his ass, and ranked Van Halen 70th, should be demoted to the mail room of a guitar magazine.

Wizard Man | 9/19/2006, 3:05 pm EST

Two different guitar styles to fight over until the cows come home but clearly Hendrix was a better composer and song writer and did not rely on a single guitar technique like his rare finger tapping heard on Electric Ladyland song Come On (Part 1). Every guitarist is compared to Hendrix in level of greatness while Van Halen has been surpased by most of his contemporeries and is spiraling lower and lower the older he gets. It’s a pity his talents sank to porn soundtrack creativity. Eddie and Diamond Dave are like two drunks in the same back alley talking about the early 1980’s. They are just another set of clowns on Howard Stern for us to laugh at.

John | 9/20/2006, 11:49 am EST

“Van Halen has been surpased by most of his contemporeries”

Surpased only in the eyes of morons who know nothing about guitar. Halen is top 5 all time. He doesn’t have to make another recording, and his contemporarys (like Vai) are still making a living copying him, and not giving credit.

Seb | 9/20/2006, 3:53 pm EST

Why all this constant comparing with Hendrix & Halen? Get a life you LOSERS! they’re both legends and part of rock n’ roll history! (which is more than most of you lot will ever be) What’s the problem? Did i miss something? Can’t you guys just appreciate talent without having to constantly pit it against something else? Jimi made his mark & Eddie made his, both are immeasurably influential, there IS no comparison with anybody else, all these other guys are not in the same league. END OF STORY.

kingsview | 9/21/2006, 12:07 am EST

75th? wow. rolling stone is waaay out of touch regardless of an interview with stern. no suprise that another genious musician is a bit whacky. par for the coarse and quite irrelevant if eddie can put out some more tunage. eddie’s music is so good. i think rolling stone culture is bohemian and politically driven. evh is just pure musical joy for these high brow folk. fuck em. Eddie Van Halen will rise again.

mR nOBODY | 9/21/2006, 1:24 pm EST

Very disappointing comments, especially as I’ve just spent an absolute fortune on a Kramer 1984 copy, wish I had bought a Satriani Ibanez, this guy used to be my absolute hero at one time, he really has lot the frickin plot and it’s about time to put this petty bickering behind them and get on and make some great new music, saw Satch earlier this year an absolute god makes Eddie look very ordinary.

ed, the meth has burned many, many brain cells here, get off the stuff, be a real father, call mike and dave and give us fans what we deserve, the greatest vh comeback tour ever, you can bring little wolfy too. hope to see yall soon!!

Ed do something! | 9/24/2006, 8:28 pm EST

Seems like Ed became an arrogant prick by fame and too much money, uh? Guy, you need to something real again! Go have a great time making a solo album straight from your heart and not by being mr. Influental Guitar Hero With His Plastic Looking Wolfgang Guitar Who Doesn’t Pronounce Anything At All For Already A Couple Of Years Except 3 Solo’s For A Porn Movie And Always Making Trouble With The Rest Of The Band. Do it yourself, no Ed&Wolfie but Eddie Van Halen, Eddie, who has created something than Yngwie and Vai could never have done. Playing 10 notes in one second doesn’t make you a good guitar player, Yngwie, and Steve Vai is playing better but he didn’t create the way of playing and he plays like a dandy and not like a rocker. But Eddie, you gotta do something better than telling everyone how great Wolfie is, telling everyone how bad Sammy and Mikey are, smoking cigarettes and playing golf. When are you going to use your brains? We are your fans, Ed! Don’tcha care about our opinion????? Seems like Alcohol turned you into a dumb, arrogant piece of shit without any respect. Cut the crap, do something!

Ed do something! | 9/24/2006, 8:36 pm EST

Show some respect to people, make your solo album, get the band together with Dave on lead vocals, no Wolfie but Mikey on bass, and go back to where you guys belong: In sold out stadiums and concert buildings all around the world!!!!

Eddie does`nt owe any of you loser a damn thing .If you don`t like how he lives that`xs your problem . Eddie has given you vultures enough if he chooses to drink and smoke and put out smatterings of half finished tunes . tHAT`S WHAT HE WANTS TO DO . SO LET HIM BE AND DESTROY THE NAME THAT WAS ONCE vAN hALEN . And please eddie if you do have a reunion again don`t do it with sammy .

Charvel love | 9/25/2006, 4:16 pm EST

Yeah, I agree, it’s his problem. Fans are walking away from the biggest guitar player ever, because he shows nothing but anger. Anger without any good reason!!!! What the hell did Mikey do wrong??? Nothing!! Ed is just an ignorant, arrogant piece of shit I once was a huge fan of, but nowadays he performs absolutely nothing but this crappy interviews and three solos for a porn movie !!!! He never wanna listen to his fans! If he wanna maintain this shit, well Ed, go on wasting your time and go make people hate you, it’s all up to you, you piece of shit!

korg_alpine | 9/25/2006, 4:20 pm EST

Eddie does what`s good for eddie he doesn`t owe you loser a damn thing . eddie you just keep being yourself and screw the fans because they really don`t care about you or your health. You vultures have the cd`s now go away and get a life.

Charvel love | 9/25/2006, 7:12 pm EST

jungleland, you said something true. The VH-brothers treated Mikey like shit! More and more fans are saying it: It seems like Eddie needs to hate somebody to be happy. He gives us no other proof. I want them all together on stage again, to shine like before! Not to make trouble and disappoint their fans! Eddie, the greatest guitar player ever who turned into an asshole, has to change his attitude because people disgust him for his behaviour. And true fans don’t like that from their idols. He said there’s coming an album, he has to keep his word. For the fans. It will also be nice if he and Mikey shake hands and be cool. They are able to do it once again! To shine once again! No Wolfie but Mikey on bass, Dave on lead vocals, and an album! Please, I’m begging u on my bended knees, go rock it boys, one more time!

Charvel love | 9/25/2006, 7:31 pm EST

If you have fans, entertain your fans! Remember “I’m the one”? ‘We came here to entertain you’? Then at least tell us if you boys quit or if you boys go on. You didn’t. You told us nothing. More and more shocking stories about you was almost all we got. News about you calling Pat Smear a Raji and a Mexican. You disappointed us. Once you entertained us, we loved you. I still admire you, but I like nice people. Once you where a nice guy. Be it again and I will love you for that, and please, one more time, go rock it again!!!

OOR Fan | 9/25/2006, 7:36 pm EST

OK. I think (and this is just me) that we (the fans)are wanting something that just will not ever be again. I have a ton of respect for all the members of Van Halen, including Mr. Cherone. David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar were both great for Van Halen in their own ways, the band brought us so much. No matter how we all feel it is Eddie’s name and their band, we can only be fans thats all. So until we see and hear something from the brothers just keep playing those CD’s and your favorite Van Halen songs, but open your ears to other new talent and do not get all upset about something out of your control. If Eddie does not want Michael on bass then who cares, you can always listen to him with Sammy Hagar, besides I think it would be cool to hear something from Wolfie. Look at it like a chain store that is slowly going out of business, take advantage of what you can get now before its gone. Eddie brought us some great music and not to mention GUITARS and Amps, etc. They hear what the fans are saying, they just are not reacting the way we want. It may not be Eddie and Alex, but “The Other Half” is at least out there performing for the fans and they have a great band. Hang tight Eddie will bring us something, remember its not 1978 anymore!

VHforever | 9/25/2006, 7:54 pm EST

Gary Cherone is a good singer of Extreme, but I don’t like VH III, to me that record is a wrong joke. The only song I like from that record is the song Without You. It’s probably all about what you like or not. I prefer DLR, some prefer Sammy, but I’m sure some like Cherone, so whatever?

Van Who?? | 9/25/2006, 8:14 pm EST

You guys want a eddie solo cd ?? Give a listen to “how many say i” and the two songs from the porn movie , because that`s exactly what you`re going to get. Listen to eddie discribe how great those songs are . Just like he does before ever Van Halen release . You want eddie in his prime ?? Listen to the old cd`s because that`s as good as it`s going to get .

VHforever | 9/25/2006, 8:52 pm EST

Man, since the man started to talk about Wolfie playing like his old man does, I know the old man was not talking bullshit. The young man must be a good player, I am curious. Unfortunately I didn’t see him playing with his old man in 2004. I’ve been thinking about all the arguments and about that new solo album and my conclusion is: Why not? Could be nice to hear Wolf and the man play solo after solo, and also listen to the bass playing from the young man, shit, why not? I guess Mikey doesn’t bother about money, he is a happy man, he has hotrods, Ferraris, lots of basses, hot sauce and a great time playing together with his good friend Sammy. Sammy doesn’t even want a phonecall from Eddie. He said he’d puke when ‘they’ would call. So why don’t give the young man the chance to show something great? Music is something inside the Van Halens. The man seems to pick up his job again, and Wolf likes to play as well. I’m sure the man wants to show something great, and his son will join him. Well, let the album come soon, I’m absolutely curious! Yes, there will be no 1978 Van Halen anymore, there will be no 1986 Van Halen anymore, Cherone is almost forgotten and Eddie, I conclude someting new would be good to him. He wants to show something great. Well, let the party begin!

Rhoads lover | 9/26/2006, 2:27 am EST

Ed,do what you have to do, and make some great music!!! rock on!!!

VHforever | 9/26/2006, 7:46 am EST

C’mon, Eddie doesn’t look that old! He’s a 51-year old man, he looks normal to his age.

VHforever | 9/26/2006, 8:21 am EST

Seen his chest and his shoulders? Looks good! I think the man’s fit now, and he’s ready to rock&roll again, and however, it ain’t easy to quit smoking, and he battles alcohol, so why blame him for a few Marlboro’s?

acoustic nostradamus | 9/26/2006, 9:42 pm EST

Here’s what I think Ed, his brother, and his son should do. I think that if Ed is so pissed off MA and SH for selling novelty items and covering his songs–the perfect revenge would be for the three of them to pick a woman like Amy Lee to sing for them on an all acoustic set of the most popular songs. Set an acoustic tour for small venues like HOB and HardROCK. Ed was/is still a very influental guitar player and I think people would PAY to hear him jam o’natural and play his music in a new light. Man, it’s been 30 years. Give us the old VH in the new millineum for once and put a spin on it. If I was your agent I’d be begging you to do something like this. You don’t have to do anything for the rest of your life except raise your son. You’re already famous. Don’t play to the press and make yourself out to be bigger a$$hole than they think you are. Just get up on stage with your acoustic and jam. Go out on top with class.

Hardrock never dies | 9/26/2006, 10:06 pm EST

How ’bout kickin’ some ass again, like you did before, this time with a full time kick ass solo album, Eddie?

Wasted talent

Poe's Third Toe 1984 | 9/27/2006, 7:07 am EST

What in the hell happened to this guy?? From where, exactly, is this vitriol and piss towards his former bandmates coming from? He reminds me somewhat of Phil Anselmo before that man ruined himself (and Pantera) w/ heroin. I’ve read interview after interview with this guy, hoping for nothing more than some encouragment concerning a possible reunion or, at the very least, some new damn material, period. Instead, this is what we get: a babbling, bizarre interview and news that he’s jamming with his 15 yr. old son. Wow.

Van Halen comeback?? | 9/27/2006, 10:47 am EST

Finally some news about a new VH album. A solo album.
Let it be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sem | 9/27/2006, 12:53 pm EST

Catherine sounds great, the new record could be even better. I’m certain about that.

hugh jass | 9/27/2006, 1:37 pm EST

what a dick, and a HIGHLY OVERRATED
guitar player at that.

Sem | 9/27/2006, 3:41 pm EST

He isn’t as good as Rusty Cooley or Roy Z. but he created a way of guitar playing, and that makes him great.

Robert | 9/27/2006, 6:00 pm EST

He will never be as good as Jimmy Page .Ed may play faster but he will never have all the tones and vision and chords that Jimmy Page has .Just listen to a Zeppelin cd and listen to how creative and imaginative Page is the layers of awesome guitar tone he just he weaves. Jimmy doesn`t play fast he plays music. And if eddie does finally put something out tell him to turn off that annoying sustainer and to get Alex back on the drums because eddie is`nt that great of a drummer . One other thing Jimmy page will not be remembered as a jerk like eddie has.

Sem | 9/27/2006, 9:13 pm EST

A jerk… a jerk… I think a hard drug like alcohol, and alcohol is a hard drug indeed, does a lot of damage. I blame a lot of his behaviour on alcohol.

Edward rules | 9/28/2006, 7:15 am EST

Metallica hits the roads again, so does Motley Crue, new Europe album’s coming soon, now it’s time for a Van Halen party again, they still have skills.
And yup, Ed’s a jerk but still a highly talented jerk, lol.

Troy White, Cornerstone Music | 9/29/2006, 2:56 pm EST

Edward Van Halen is a tresure a gift from God to us musicians giving us an example of what could be if we would sit on our bed for 8 hours a day and make the sacrifice to our music that Eddie has made! Not that in and of it’s self would not make us another “Van Halen”, but we could take the music to another level like he has in our own way. I like Dave’s stuff, I love Sammy’s stuff and even Gary’s controbution. It’s Art not the Superbowl! There are no winner or losers in music it is a gift that is to be appriciated for what it is! People who look at it as a competition are really missing the point. If they are musicians they will be handicaped creatively by a view like this! All of these men no matter how gifted or wealthy are mortals who get depressed, say things they should not say and make mistakes like all “Human Beings” do. I am sick of all the critism and bullshit judgement!!! Just do the best you can, learn to forgive one another, play music. This world is in a sad enough state as it is with out all this soap opera drama!!! Wolfie keep on rocking and to hear you play with your Uncle and your Dad will be a treat no matter what the bullshit critics say!!!
From a real musician and fan!!!

Kent T. | 9/29/2006, 11:48 pm EST

All Things Must Pass, and this to shall pass, if Eddie says he wants to do a solo album with his son than let him do it. Everybody here is crying for a re-union, but Ed obviously doesn’t want to do that. I also think that he should have Alex on drums and Wolfie on Bass and Eddie doing his thing, and it’ll all be a new thing, plus they should have a new singer to add to the new sound. I always did prefer Sammy over Dave, but I like them both, but we’ve all heard that before and we need to move on. No matter what Eddie will do, the fans will follow no matter how much they bitch about it. Remember we all have personalities and we all grow around them, so remember principles before personalities, so Eddie if you read this you know what I am talking about

Dee Dee | 9/30/2006, 2:43 pm EST

Wow….there are alot of sick little bastards posting on this blog. Hey, Eddie…your a legend! Your ability to overcome what ails you, and still keep your priorities (family) in perspective, (promoting and supporting your little guy) reveals your true nature. You Rock!
Being a fellow indo musician in So. Calif.,who plays for the indo community, I wanted to tell you how highly regarded you are. In fact, if you’d like to come and see for yourself, we hold a Dutch festival/Pasar Maalam every year at Gemrig Park in Los Alamitos. Thousands attend ever year and come from out of state to be there just to celebrate our nationality. My band, The Warriors usually play. We’d be honored by your presence. And, If you should decide that a female singer, who can emmulate Amy Lee is fitting for your next project, you can check me out on deedeeray.com. I’ll make the Satay/Soto Ayam! Rock On big guy!

Van SUPER Halen | 9/30/2006, 5:29 pm EST

15 ain’t no lil’ guy no more, he an’ his dad are gonna rock it on.

Johnny | 9/30/2006, 6:43 pm EST

Hey Has anyone notice how asain Eddie and Alex look ?? Are they half chinese are something ? That`s probably why there so musically talented those asains are very gifted . Van Halen wAS A MINORITY BAND

Dutch VH Fan | 10/1/2006, 5:49 am EST

Hey Johnny, them guys are from a dutch father, Jan Van Halen and their mother, Eugenia is mixed Dutch-Indonesian, many Dutch indos emigrated to California in the 60s of the last century.

Dutch VH Fan | 10/1/2006, 6:19 am EST

Michael kick ass Anthony’s parents are Polish, Dave Lee Roth has a jewish father, and Van Halen is an American band, not a jewish/polish/dutch/indo band. It’s about music, not about ethnology.

Dutch VH Fan | 10/1/2006, 6:37 am EST

I’m proud on them, I admire their music and that’s what it’s all about!!! I’m an immigrant myself,I came to Holland when I was 10 years old, and I think it’s pretty cool that the brothers emigrated to America and started one of the most popular rock bands ever! NOG EVEN GEDULD, JONGENS! EDDIE EN WOLFIE GAAN ER SAMEN WAT MOOIS VAN MAKEN!!!

Steve | 10/1/2006, 2:15 pm EST

In one of the last Guitar World interviews with Ed for VH3 .He stated when he came to america all the white kids at school use to pick on him and alex for being minoritys . That`s why him and Alex are so close . And i seen a picture of there mom and she looks full blooded asian . Alex got his mom`s eyes.

Dutch VH fan | 10/1/2006, 5:13 pm EST

She wasn’t. Mostly dutch indonesians and indos (mixed European and Indonesian, in this case dutch and Indonesian) went to Holland when Indonesia became independent. Eugenia van Beers (Dutch last name) whas her name, she was indo-european. I know what I’m talking about. But does it make any fucking difference????? It’s about music, not about etnicy and those stupid lullabies about their race and that kind of crap!

Dutch VH fan | 10/1/2006, 5:21 pm EST

It’s a good example of how dumb and stupid racism is, pickin’ on two darker boys as being minorities, because of their looks. Those guys rocked the whole world, and they are gonna rock again!!

shredward rules | 10/1/2006, 7:14 pm EST

Mrs. Van Halen full blood asian? No way, Indo-european, mixed european and Indonesian.

adolph | 10/1/2006, 8:24 pm EST

can you imagine being alex and eddie and being called ching chong chinaman when they were growing up ?? no wonder eddie so mean and hateful .

old van fan | 10/2/2006, 4:28 pm EST

Like DLR said years ago but it seems to fit Eddie more these days..I USED to have a drug problem..but now I make enough money!!!! :(

shredward rules | 10/2/2006, 6:21 pm EST

The fact that he wrote and performed 3 songs for ‘Sacred sin’ shows he’s still taking his work serious, but he does it in another way now. He is the musician and a free man, we are the fans, and it’s up to him to decide what he’s gonna let us hear and what not. If he wants to do it with Wolfie and Alex, and maybe even Dave Lee Roth again, he does that. He knows what the fans like, the fans are very clear about that, but he decides what kind of music he makes, and he knows to entertain people. Dave fans and Sammy fans. Oh I hope he’s gonna rock again. He lost some of his speed, but it’s a matter of serious training to do the fast shredding again, I hope he’s gonna show something nice again, some real rock like in the Dave days, but 2 or 3 more relaxed songs like in the Sammy time would also be nice.

scribbner | 10/3/2006, 12:46 pm EST

Please tell me that while giving this interview to Stern, that whatever’s left of Ed’s tongue was firmly planted in his cheek.

Great Guitarists | 10/6/2006, 3:35 am EST

Wherever he may be, I’m sure that he’s happily jamming with Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhoads and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Eddie will be missed like those other great guitarists. The one that Stern interviewed is an EVH look-a-like. The real EVH is gone.

Guido tar | 10/6/2006, 2:34 pm EST

No, he isn’t gone. But he’s no slave to the fans, he’s a musician. He has the right to do whatever the f*** he wants to do, but a lot of people seem to think they can give him orders. A lot of people talk about him like they know him personally, and I don’t believe all those guys do. He said a new album’s coming, I’ll absolutely buy it, but if you don’t like it, just don’t buy it.

rawb-bass | 10/6/2006, 4:01 pm EST

just listened to a killer version of Eruption done by some Austin guitarist — http://www.mysapce.com/davesnothere — third song down he opens w/ Eruption and plays it better than EDDIE

Wolfe | 10/7/2006, 1:18 am EST

Wopdeedoo Eddie wrote eruption . without that. that guy from austin would`nt have anything to play. without the seed there`s no plant.

Valerie | 10/7/2006, 4:41 pm EST

Well..Eddie did`nt invent everything about the guitar. He stole alot of ideas from Cactus and he took alot of his riffs from old ZZTop and Who songs listen to aint talkin about love there`s a whole section that was taken from pinball wizard. Eddies good but he`s not a god.Paul Mccartneys a GOD!!!

new halen | 10/9/2006, 12:48 pm EST

What’s all this comments? All musicians have different qualities, Edward Van Halen isn’t Paul McCartney, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wasn’t Johann Sebastian Bach, Johnny Cash wasn’t Jimi Hendrix, please stop comparing all the time! It’s like Troy White said, it’s art, not the superbowl!

Shredhead | 10/9/2006, 2:37 pm EST

Eddies faster than Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix . Eddies the fastest guitar player around . If you ain`t fast then you suck . What has Paul Mccartney done ?? Eddie can play better than that old fart .

rock n' rules!! | 10/11/2006, 5:32 am EST

Eddie knoes how to improvise like no other guitarist can do and he’s fast, his guitar playing always gives me a lot of of pleasure.

DX | 10/11/2006, 12:49 pm EST

I got two words for rollingstone….

DX | 10/11/2006, 12:50 pm EST

SUCK IT!!!!!!!!

Axl sucks | 10/13/2006, 6:06 am EST

Eddie, when will your solo album be available? I can hardly wait!

Griff | 10/14/2006, 1:43 am EST

Why does Eddie hate Mike so much? Mike always seemed like a nice laid back guy. Frankly, Mikey’s big contribution to the band was background vocals. Maybe he’s an average bass player, but his harmonies were what made a lot of those songs great.

The Truth Sayer | 10/14/2006, 1:48 am EST

Does anybody else feel sorry for Wolfgang? I saw the 2004 tour and Wolfie was walking around the arena before the show… no bodyguard, just himself and a walkie talkie. He seemed happy, but the kid was awfully fat for a 12 year old. It must be hard watching your dad smoke and drink and self destruct. I have no doubt the kid is a great musician, but I hope Ed isn’t putting too much pressure on him.

The return of Van Halen | 10/15/2006, 7:33 am EST

I don’t care about the size of the kid and anything, but too much pressure on him would not be good, I agree. But I do believe Wolfgang got some excellent skills and he is able to kick yo ass in a right direction like his dad can do!!!! Rock it, guys!!!!

Distinctively Van Halen | 10/18/2006, 3:23 am EST

I totally agree with Griff. Besides EVH’s guitar playing style, Mike’s background vocals and harmonies make the Van Halen sound so unique. As soon as you hear that background vocals, you definitely know that it’s a VH song! Bottomline is, bury the hatchet and bring back Mike to VH!!!

Waiting for new VH record | 10/19/2006, 9:07 am EST

my suggestion would be: Eddie and Sammy on guitar and background vocals, Mike on bass and background vocals again(!!), Alex on drums and Dave on lead vocals.

Folkthemall | 10/19/2006, 10:26 am EST

Has anyone noticed that Eddie seems to be smoking crack? Its hard not to believe Sammy about him, and as for him kicking Mike Anthony to the sidelines in favor of his son, what was he thinking? Is Ed on the verge of turning into another Michael Jackson/Tom Cruise? He’s arrogant, greedy, and is only looking for more money. He’s not a scientist, he cut his tongue off for “science”? His cancer OF THE TONGUE has nothing to do with Cancer? This man is falling off his rocker! I feel bad for the rest of the band and for Valerie! I was a huge Van Halen fan, but Eddie has gone from my eyes as being a God to a loser.

Spanish Fly | 10/20/2006, 5:10 pm EST

We want u back Ed!

Wackynutty | 10/20/2006, 9:42 pm EST

Ive seen the band a few times over the last 20 years. Even if the talent isnt there, you stay with whats made your band a legend. Micheal Anthony is as much Van Halen as the brothers. He just doesn’t have the namesake

Wackynutty | 10/20/2006, 9:53 pm EST

Years ago while bartending at Cheers in Boston, Sammy and Mike came in for a few pops while they were on the 5150 tour.
Overall, very nice guys.
They signed autographs and joked around with the guys in the kitchen. After they left we got a call saying we were all invited backstage the next night.
Its still one of my greatest memories…Thanks guys !!!

Diamond Paul | 10/22/2006, 12:32 am EST

Rock Star 70 is right, David Lee Roth is the perfect VH singer because he is as crazy as they are!! Van Halen were always a larger than life, crazy party. Van Halen stopped being funny when DLR left. I LIVE MY LIFE LIKE THERES NO TOMORROW!!! Can someone tell me what russian chicks are like in bed?

ish | 10/25/2006, 11:38 pm EST

well halen lost the power in the music…………without dave the music is bubble gum puppy love wack

geeman | 10/27/2006, 2:02 am EST

Yea Eddie is great and I have been a big fan for years but his comments about his son and cancer has me worried. He sounds very arrogant. Looks like he has been the problem all along. I wished he would straighten up his act. Eddie you are a good guitar player but you are not a GOD!

Ice Cream Man | 10/27/2006, 6:09 am EST

Bring back Mike, Van Halen is incomplete without him! Everybody knows that!

Ice Cream Man | 10/27/2006, 6:15 am EST

Eddie, Alex, Mike, Dave, go have a cup of coffee together and talk about the future of the band, please stop behaving like angry little children who can’t get their lollipop!

Sweet William | 10/28/2006, 6:29 am EST

Will there be a new record? Or only a tour with DLR?

Brian | 10/28/2006, 4:51 pm EST

Three words: SEVERE BRAIN DAMAGE. What a loser. What a LYING loser. Every interview he’s ever done contradicts the others in “points of fact.” He’s the only one spanking it, and I don’t mean the guitar.

redstrat | 10/29/2006, 6:14 am EST

guitar players- hendrix clapton beck van halen page etc. who is the best the only way is to play a song see if they can play it hendrix was over rated everyone was over rated man god any two year old can copy any boby now hell with so much videos and tabs etc. everyone thinks there a freakin guitar hero i can play fast as hell too but it ain’t no song if guitar players were athletics they would’ve been retired 10 years ago who the hell freakin cares what’s bad is every band screws it up beatles could of got back together damn the rolling stones do it right my god i hope to see them when there 80 quite telling about listen to this guitar player everyone’s the same if it wasn’t it would sound like crap the worst thing is when rock and rap became crap turntable may gog what next a jug and comb good guitar is any one who practiced till their fingers bleed eddie van halen needs to get his wife to sing and with his son and call the band cancer who the hell cares i don’t listen to music i make up my own songs so if i get me some crack i’ll be famous i do shoot up i’m a diabetic ha ha now for some scores chicago 12 led zeppelin 3 blacksabbath vol 4 van halen 3 led zeppelin 4 kiss alive 2

EDDIE VAN HALEN IS MY HERO !!!!!!!! DUDE YOU FUCKING RULE !!!! AND I’M ONLY SIXTEEN !!!!!!!!! LATER

Eddie Sash | 11/1/2006, 3:40 pm EST

Well Well… the booze got another one… at least Clapton & Page and even Keith Urban have the will to get some help.

Mike is a solid player & part of what made VH… Eddie, hey your not such a great writer by yourself, its the whole band that gets it done… I also recall Van Halen covering many other artist on many of the old records before Sammy came to town…. Sammy is a great writer, thats what took VH to the next level.

Look me up sometime on google.com
just do a search on Eddie Sash

Mike from St Louis | 11/3/2006, 6:43 pm EST

Maybe now the three Van Halen’s can all get together and tell eachother how great they are. What’s a bassist supposed to do in a band that’s ruled by an egocentric guitarist who thinks he can outplay everyone?

Galactus | 11/5/2006, 8:59 pm EST

Ed should look at a few things from his past…
Dave-Gone
Sammy-Gone
Valerie- Gone
Gary-Gone
surely the problem isn’t all those folks…maybe Edward should look inward to find the problems…

Greg | 11/8/2006, 8:19 am EST

Eddie, we care, please get help. No offense, we don’t want to see your kid on bass, we want Michael. This is very sad to VH fans that go all the way back with you. One of the things about you that struck me in the beginning was that according to you, while everyone else was out getting laid on a Saturday night, you were on your bed with your guitar, perfecting your craft. News of your 15 year old son getting laid is NOT A GOOD THING. Noone is impressed and noone is inspired. Get help, we still care about you. VH reunion = Ed, Alex, Dave, Michael. Rock and Roll is in trouble – save it!

ouch | 11/9/2006, 12:00 pm EST

my head hurts from reading this stuff.

Jason | 11/9/2006, 11:53 pm EST

Alex and Eddie are god but why get rid of Anthony. You cant f*** with his vocals. I went to their balance concert and thought it was awesome and wanted to see them again but know I cant even listen to them anymore. It makes me sick that they are f***** up this great band. I used to listen to them all the time But now I cant. Having his son their is just going to piss every fan off and be like wheres Anthony. It was bad enogh switching singers but bass players. COME ON! Theres only the brothers that are the original now. Thats not cool. Keep the band the same. Theres nothing wrong with them now so why f*** up a good thing. STAY THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!

wasa vh fan | 11/10/2006, 6:59 pm EST

Im in total shock… !!!I think eddie must of got cancer of the brain… This is tragic and the sad thing is your bringin your son into a seen of groupies and drugs , and alcohol.. Dont worry we will be reading about wolfie going to rehab or better yet dying of a overdose…. Its just tragic… plain and simple

sherocker | 11/11/2006, 3:57 pm EST

Wolfie aint spending 45 mins wacking off…he’s in there doing Daddy’s dope. Wake up Daddie, do you really want your kid to ride the same horse you do? Valarie, wake up hon and get that kid away from him! MA DR and SH, rock on! Van Halen is dead RIP! \M/

Granville | 11/12/2006, 7:41 pm EST

Clearly, Eddie contracted tongue cancer due to “athlete’s tongue” which is caused by continuously walking around with your foot in your mouth.

Angel Michaelo | 11/13/2006, 10:13 am EST

If Eddie thinks that Wolfie is a better bass player than Anthony, he must have lost his mind! Eddie, go watch ‘live without a net’ again and check out Anthony. This is all I want to say about it.

57-0 babe, Kelly Robinson babe | 11/13/2006, 10:21 am EST

Mikey dropped out of the band? That’s ridiculous!!!!

jABE | 11/13/2006, 10:49 pm EST

PLEASE ALLOW ME TO CUT THROUGH ALOT OF THE BULLSHIT IN THIS BLOG.MOST OF THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS STATING THAT VH WAS OVERRATED OR SUCKED ARE EITHER UNDER 30 OR JUST PLAIN DIPSHITS.YOU OBVIOUSLY DID NOT,BUT IF YOU HAD SEEN THIS BAND IN ITS PRIME BETWEEN 78 AND 83,YOU WOULD KNOW THAT THEY WERE THE KINGS AND FUCKING UNREAL LIVE.BOTTOM LINE IS, IF EDDIE HITS THE ROAD WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL LINEUP, THIS WHOLE THING IS WASTE OF TIME

Ben | 11/14/2006, 6:28 pm EST

just wait and see. I for one think wolfie could do it.. i mean.. Eddie for a dad and alex for an uncle… Jamming with those two for years…i doubt he is that sh*t. I wont be jumping the wagon. Come on Eddie, kick these lot into place.

HI

Nice comments? VH its over, nobody can touch it. Mr VH can do what he ever he want, but whitout original lineups, do you buy it as VH? Never! Mr VH is allways the one of the best, its ok. But MR VH, are You really gonna to spill all the good music, now You can prove what you are, can you??

Sonic Templar | 11/16/2006, 10:58 pm EST

Wow.This blog is a riot…I agree with the notion that unless EVH gets original gang on the road, all this hype is pointless.Just a suggestion, maybe the VH bashers should go listen to some more wimp rock like green day,and go match wits with a laundry basket full of velveeta.

Anonymous | 11/16/2006, 11:17 pm EST

Live right before your steaming eyes. I guess they will put Wolfies nuts in a vice grip so He can sing the high notes since Mikey wont be in the band. Eddies miracle cure for cancer (smoking meth -according to him)- Im sure this played a role this decision …like bringing on Cherone. His brother is a blind ass for letting this go on. I cant wait to sell my VH shit on Ebay when he dies in his bathroom like Elvis without, of course, the fat ass and pill habit…. and peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwiches.

Eddie hasnt had a bite of food since Balanced came out. Im sure that Cancer can cause some symptoms all except the ‘Faces of Meth’ look hes sporting. Wolfie out there on stage is going to look like the Partridge Family minus the talentless red headed dick faced Danny Bonaduce. Maybe Eddie should hire him for his press agent along with OJ Chimpson. David Weave Roth would come back with Eddies right testicle if it was able to tour he needs cash so bad. It doesnt sound like it but I am a huge disappointed fan (with Ebay worthy shit) that I will never sell, by the way. Unless Eddie wants to buy it for more Meth. Thanks for signing them, Eddie. In Kansas- my red Kramer and my other guitar in downtown Dallas in 1984.

I think Mikey didnt make the band because he was open with his concern for Eddie and how this would affect his hot sauce sales. Eddie still rocks and the people who dis his body of work must worship guitarists like CC Deville from Poison or any of these new idiots playing now that were and are influenced by him whether they will admit it or not.

Eddie being overated is like OJ being innocent and Paris Hilton not being a whore. I will go to the show -love it- when and if they tour and I will be sad when he dies. Someone in this blog said 5 years and thats probably correct. Sad.

Eddie Van Tastic | 11/17/2006, 9:50 am EST

To the real VH-fans: Ignore the VH bashers! There will always be negative comments, now I listen to metalcore, black metal, grindcore, trash metal, I listen to speed metal, power metal, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s hard rock and heavy metal etc. but Van Halen is THE music I like the most, that shit is excellent to me, it’s a fantastic band. Their music gives me energy, when I wake up I have some coffee and I listen some Van Halen songs to wake up and believe me, it gives me a good mood!!!!
But Eddie and Alex, I beg you guys on my bended knees: Bring back Michael Anthony, please! Let the Van Halen 2007 line-up be Eddie, Alex, Mike and Dave, please!

Shovled Snow to Buy LP's | 11/19/2006, 6:29 pm EST

Correction: There’s one thing Eddie is obviously not open to: Acknowledging his fans, the ones that bought the recordings and concert tickets, giving him a lifestyle he would NEVER have had otherwise. What a selfish little bitch Eddie is. How long ’till Eddie get’s a attitude and kicks Wolfgang out? Hah hah!

Maurice | 11/27/2006, 7:18 pm EST

I love Van Halen, always have and always will. That said, I was really disapointed when they came back in 2004 and charged 110 fucking dollars a ticket. Eddie needs to get some fucking Midol, change his fucking tampon, then get on the phone with Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar and get the REAL SHOW on the fucking road. P.S. Hey Eddie, you think your son enjoys you making fun of him to millions of people on the internet?

More Van Hagar? Barf…no thanx hon.Give us rhe real deal,Which is Eddie,Alex,Michael and Diamond Dave.In other words, the lineup thats responsible for VH going to the RnR Hall of Fame, while Van Hagar’s relevance couldn’t fill a gnats ass.

Coltraine | 11/30/2006, 10:04 pm EST

There were heaps of hair bands in the 80’s, I should know I grew up then and Van Halen may have had some fans but they were in no way more influencial than other acts. I mean Madonna is still around and just hated by me as much now as then, but still being around doesn’t equate with talent as much as marketing.

Purple Wing | 11/30/2006, 10:08 pm EST

Jimi Hendrix was a lot of things. He was miles ahead of his contemporaries at the time. Van Halen was never miles ahead of his contemporaries at any time. If you really listen to early Van Halen, it’s um well, pretty crap and not much different to anything else around. Running with the Devil, for example – Rubbish!

Gee…I guess its easy to single out a song that maybe wasnt the best just to bolster your dumb argument.I can do that with any band.Conveniently, you steer clear of ON FIRE,ATOMIC PUNK,ERUPTION,SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR and ROMEO DELIGHT just to name a few tunes that, trust me son,TOTALLY KICK ASS.

On the quote “Hendrix was miles ahead of his contemporaries.”This would be true if you came from under a rock and never knew who Jeff Beck was.So on top of being full of shit, you’re also a liar.

craigcr | 12/3/2006, 2:29 am EST

yes it is pothetic to say those things about his son.It is obvious that eddie is messed up and out of his head.to bad isaw them at the texas jam 2 in dallas many years ago and i will never forget that show the line up was great and van halen kicked ass.us old rockers want to see the original line up healthy and on top.aerosmith did it and are now more popular than they were in 70’s.eddie is the problem alot of us just feel it and by the interviews with vallerie it is obvious she is a good person and wanted a good family and ed messed that up.if he cant be the dad and husband how can he lead a band.get rehab ed and get your mind off yourself

PJKRUZ | 12/5/2006, 9:11 pm EST

Ed, after your July 2, 2004 show in Cleveland, my brother said that he has heard me play your music better then you played that night. And, trust me, he tells me when he thinks I suck at something. And, I am a mortgage lender!! I really do think that your arogence is a result of you failing at EVERYTHING that you have ever done, except play guitar from 1970-1990. I’m not jealous (maybe envious). But, I would not have screwed it up like you have, my friend.

About The Kilroys
Just as mystifying as the infamous WWII graffiti phrase, Kilroy Was Here, so too is Columbus, Ohio’s latest musical export: The Kilroys. United merely on mutual regard for Americana and a driving desire to create music, vocalist John Joseph, guitarist Eddie Sash, bassist Bobbie Burke, and drummer Christopher Haverlock have joined to form The Kilroys: a band of nonconformists, idealists, and radicals whose influences, backgrounds, and values are as varied as there are forms of music. While mingling and mutating country, punk, soul, pop, blues and rock, The Kilroys form a potent, barefaced sound reminiscent of the new American frontier- both impressively raw and beautifully serene. At times, the band’s “delta-fied” riffs and thunderous grooves strike heavy like a storm’s torrent. At others, blue skies appear and a serene lyric and rhythm dress the sonic landscape. The Kilroys are an anomaly to be sure. They are a band collectively refusing stylistic straight-jackets; all the while approaching each other and the music they make together with honesty and creative integrity.

I have been a VH fan from their first album till the last. I have been a Sammy fan from his first to last. Yes i like the t older stuff from both. Eddie you need to relize that your trying to sell something every time you wear a hieneken shirt’ have a marlboro hanging from your mouth,or go on tour. So because Sammy and Michael wanna sell shit, big deal. I quit caring about that shit when i heard the Beatles music trying to sell cars, oh yeah dont i hear VH playing on a toy guitar commercial now days? Anyway i myself wish you would get your shit together, your running out of time, i think you can still make good music. In all the years ive watched Van Halen and Sammy i have never read anyone say a bad thing about Sammy the person, Sammy the singer, yeah their alot out people out there that dont dig his singing but hey you cant please everyone. You and Alex are the only ones ive seen in print or heard on the radio bad mouth Sammy or Michael the persons, cant say that about Dave, but i do like the way Dave sings, his stage act i could do with out but i digress. Eddie and Alex stop and look in the mirror. Think about what your doing…Get help if you need it and PLEASE start rocking again. Be it with DLR, all tho i think that would only last a album, or Sammy.

Re-live The Dinosaurs | 12/28/2006, 10:19 am EST

God what an awful predicament EVH has gotten himself into, he didn’t even come up with the name, if Dave was not in the original line up they would still be called “Mammoth” as in dinosaur or history? (lame name…the quality of of an uninspired masterbater) whats funny if you watch the live performances of both eras it is clearly obvious the DAVE era was much more entertaianing than the Sam era ! ..Sam is boring and a little insecure (he should have never left Montrose) seems Eddy can’t get along with anyone, he boots Dave and claimes his name and that is it, Dave still is as smart and witty as ever and not a push over too boot, Eddy boots Sam forwhat ever reason, jealous of his Tequilla line? ..what a child & alcoholic, then assigns the siger from Extream (probably trying to get another #1 hit that Gary is capable of but not with Eddy) who knows what happened their but I bet you Eddy had him on considerably less than salary than the VH Brother pigs, and then Valerie his wife of how many years, also one can only imagine what she had to put up with, and then Sam Back …god is EVH a complete freak? we should put him on the Dr Phil show and let it all out…well it is coming out in the form of cancer and drug and Alcohol addiction… then Michael Anthony …who mind you stuck through all of this imature horseshit, Eddy brought on by himself, honestly they should all get back together Sam,Dave,Michael, Alex, and Eddy, do a tour and at the end of the tour everyone of them should beat the living shit out of Eddy and break his other hip, for the nonsense he has put everyone through for his selfish, money hungry ego that has no place on this planet…I really think he is caught in a time warp and we could really do without someone like this taking up so much of everyones time and energy… EVH you are washed up and have been since you took on the role of spokesman for Van Halen…karma will pay you count on it….

Lets hear Alex | 12/28/2006, 4:57 pm EST

I would like to hear what Alex has to say about all this. Would he be afraid to speak up for fear of being kicked out of Edwards band or can he speak his mind without fear. I agree that Valerie should keep a close eye on her son because EVH is either loosing his mind or on the wrong kind of drugs or both. EVH needs to look at some great rock stars that have got clean and sober and have been able to make great music, people forgive and forget when they see guys trying to clean up. Right now he’s just a fading superstar who know one will care about in a few years, untill they hear he died of cancer or a OD.

Roadblock | 12/29/2006, 4:26 pm EST

Sammy Hagar is riding the big wave Eddie. He was great with montros great on his own great with van halen and great on his own again. You’re just throwing stones bro. It’s a shame because you’re a great guitar player and ahould be way above the petty shit, Eddie
Hire someone to tell you to shut up when you’re ahead, hell I’ll do it Eddie! If some one asks you about Sammy, Mike or Dave say “great guys, I wish them the best”
You’ll end up the hero bro.

Childish and Sad.... | 1/9/2007, 5:30 pm EST

I guess Eddie should be glad he had a cool-sounding last name, because if he had been Eddie Finkelstein, they would not have called the band “Finkelstein” and he would not be able to say it’s just his and Alex’s band any more than it was anyone else’s. Michael is a founding member, too…. Been there since 1974. What gives Eddie any more right to fire Michael than Michael has to fire Eddie? They may be able to change singers many times, but don’t mess with THE BAND!!! He may not be as flashy or whatever as Eddie, but Michael was a big part of what made the band sound good. I just lost respect for Eddie.

Buddy Wieser | 1/9/2007, 8:41 pm EST

Ed needs to get to work doing what he is NOW famous for-revolutionizing drinking the way he did for the guitar back in the day. How about 10 tiny shot glasses at the end of each finger?

Ed, you blew it. I love ya, but you blew it.

Dr. Ralph | 1/10/2007, 3:38 pm EST

Eddie’s always had the brain of a twelve year old… fortunately his fast fingers made him rich and famous, but David Lee made the band rock! They couldn’t get along because Roth used too many big words and didn’t want to settle down and smoke crack all day. Hagar turned Van Halen into bubble-gum shit even with the Frankenstrat in the background. Get a clue EVH and realize what your band was. Emphasis on was. The best guitar player in the world backing a boisterous fuck you and the horse you rode in on singer. Too bad only your guitar playing has that same attitude. That’s rock and roll!!!

Disappointed | 1/10/2007, 6:15 pm EST

“My brother is the other half of Van Halen.” What?????

Is Van Halen now some White Stripes-styled guitar and drums DUO?

Last time I checked, ONE guy can’t be half of a FOUR piece band.

“It just makes them a cover band.”

Huh???

If Mike and Sammy were on the ORIGINAL recordings of those songs and share songwriting credits, they are NOT a “cover band” anymore than you will be with your new version of VH.

VAN HALEN started out as a cover band. I have recordings of them from 1976 where they do nothing but cover tunes.

Guess what, Eddie… Mike is an original member of Van Halen… JUST LIKE YOU!

Binky | 1/12/2007, 3:25 pm EST

Disappointed? Welcome to the world of music. Loss of sanity is no one’s responsibility. lol But seriously, bad attitudes is what got them there and it never surprises me. I’m just disappointed he got some kid in place of Michael Anthony. But about the HIV thing, now I know DLR’s is a rumour. But watch what you say, you could end up with a lawsuit.

ejh | 1/13/2007, 1:23 pm EST

they all got too drunk sometimes but i have to admit dave forgot the words too many times and didn’t ever really have a good live vocal performance. he was checking out chicks and not honing his skills. i’m sure eddie butchered some stuff but he did alot of spontaneous crazy shit that probably became part of his arsenal. i’d sing for van halen anyday, if i could also play rhythm and second lead. hail wolfie!

JR | 1/16/2007, 12:34 pm EST

Eddie, I’ve been listening to your music for 30 years but I just can’t watch your disintegration anymore. You are a brilliant guitarist but you need some serious help. So long, Ed. Thanks for the memories.

Greg | 1/17/2007, 10:52 pm EST

Ed…you really fucked up good…onece again. Shame on you for turning your back on your fans. You deserve what you get coming to you. At least Dave and Sammy are playing small venues and doing what they like.

P.S. When are you going to cure AIDS, heart disease and night myopia? Dumb fucker!

Skibble | 1/17/2007, 10:58 pm EST

Eddie…keep your kid in school. Don’t let him turn into a burnout like his old man.

Valerie…call CPS on him! He is on crack and needs to get clean.

After they put him in jail, publish all of his original studio tapes. That’s all we care about.

RW | 1/20/2007, 6:47 pm EST

The guy who said between 78-83 that VH was the bomb live hit it right on the head. It’s why so many of the fans have always hoped for the best for the guys.

When I saw them in Madison Square Garden it was the best concert I’d seen in my life (Fair Warning Tour). When they opened up with Fire, I was completely blown away.

Outside of the self-congratulatory bowing (they did this almost after every song) it was the best and Eddie had life and energy running around as much as Dave did.

Now it’s just sad. Absolutely sad.

One guy who claimed once to get into their hotel (floor) told me the wild story of DLR banging Wendy from the Plasmatics (she invented the word skank before it became a lifestyle) and Eddie just sat in his room playing guitar, no drugs, no alcohol.

Years later, a buddy on music row in NYC told me the story of how Eddie was in town and was begging for someone to find him cocaine. When he got it, he did all of it immediately.

And it’s been downhill ever since. Poor Valerie and his poor kid. He’ll never know his father the way we did in the early years when he was just part of a great rock and roll band.

Sad to see it come to this.

Sean | 1/21/2007, 6:48 pm EST

I guess that saying about every genious having his fault is true. It’s such a shame cause I’ve idolized Eddie as a guitar player and songwriter for so long and still do.

ChillGeorgia | 1/21/2007, 8:29 pm EST

Eddie, you are the man and always will be. You will rank up there with the guitar best until we are all buried and gone. Don’t blow what you had by what you are doing now. Admit that Van Halen is a band and that it takes all 4 of you to do it. Look at what Sammy and Michael are doing and take note! The fans miss you guys and that’s guy with an S! Capitalize on your strengths as a band and keep making beautiful music and memories while you can. Wolfgang will find his stride and be great too. LAY OFF THE SAUCE, dude! We can’t all be wrong. Congrats on the hall of fame…if you can remember that just happened.

C J | 1/23/2007, 5:07 am EST

Obviously Eddie is in the pride zone… but give the guy a break – he’s one of the greatest guitarists ever!!!

5150 | 1/23/2007, 2:09 pm EST

EVH you just ruined the greatest rock band in history, where is his sister in all this Alexandra Van Halen, what does she have to say. Why don’t you go and die somewhere under a rock your taking up valueable oxygen from another human being

Geezer | 1/23/2007, 6:44 pm EST

I loved the music from beginning to end; liked ALL the players from a musical standpoint. As for them personally, I couldn’t care less; they are people just like me and I don’t know them.

But if you decide to waste yourself on drugs, you will pay, and everyone close to you will pay. I lived it, and I didn’t use. I feel bad for your friends and family EV.

As far as I’m concerned, there were 2 eras of Van Halen, and they involved 5 men, not 2.

Dr. Ralph | 1/23/2007, 9:11 pm EST

Yeah, I got backstage in Nashville on the 1984 tour and Eddie was all about the powder. No pot, no women just the white. Went straight to hell after that.

fridgit | 1/25/2007, 6:03 am EST

Eddie,
How does it feel to be that “control freak” that you once proclaimed DLR and Sammy to be? Hypocrite much? You are even worse than they could’ve ever been! You are still my #1 guitar hero, but wake up dude!!!

Alex,
How about smackin’ some sense into your little brother? Speak up man! You are the ONLY member of VH that we haven’t heard from!!! Without you, VH would not have been able to do half the songs it did!!! Eddie is not more important than you or anyone else in VH!!!

Hecktor | 1/25/2007, 11:44 am EST

Why why why won’t this PoS band just freakin’ DIE already.

Keep smokin’ the ice dickweed. Hopefully you’ll check out sooner and the world will be rid of your masturbatory “playing” once and for all.

“Best Band Ever”? Not hardly. Not even close.

I am not writing to insult or be disrespectful but you should listen to your fans..many have insightful comments. I wonder if you really care.

by the way-happy 52nd birthday!

evh bud | 1/27/2007, 9:04 am EST

eddie, i have 20 something guitar mags, and your mentioned, on every single one(some even based on you). was it only coincidence? no doubt that at your caliber you may feel nothing below your feet.

I THINK that people should realize that with out your idiosyncrasies in van halen it wouldn’t be what it is known as or respected as today.

But don’t kill that respect by being an extremist, your fans will forgive your outrageous statements and i don’t think what you brought to guitar people will forget, but what about who you are man, what happened to that smiling Eddie?

hmmmm | 1/27/2007, 9:08 am EST

I SWEAR THAT ROLLING STONES HAVE IT IN FOR VAN HALEN (the band)

TwiGG¥ | 1/27/2007, 7:26 pm EST

Dude!

Just because you were part of a band that we all love doesn’t give you the right to bash them because you are bitter with them personally. The band members you bash were part of a band called Van Halen and will always be!

BTW fans… Have you seen a picture of Wolfgang? Eddie isn’t on crack! His son is eating up all the damn food! Wolfgang, move over and let your dad eat one of those cup cakes there fat body! Your ass looks like 100 pounds of chewed bubble gum!

Example: If you were to read this Eddie I’m sure you wouldn’t like someone as close to you as Wolfgang to get bashed for no real reason would you? I didn’t think so. Wolfgang, You look like your mother man! Go home to her and wait for this dude to die and then take up the slack where he left off. This nit wit that I have loved for years because of inspiring me to play guitar has done nothing but break you and your mothers heart for years. Don’t be a living legends son… Wait and be a legends son.

You should have learned from your influences Eddie… You know, Clapton… etc! I learned from you the same way you learned from clapton, and you took it to the next step and did the same from you. Remember how you felt about Calpton once you could do the same thing on a guitar he could… You turned into that to me. It’s a shame that you are saying the things you are saying in public… say that crap at home and keep it to yourself. your fans aren’t going to go along with you no matter what you say. We first loved the band that you are putting down. you actually think you could have made the money you did without Michael ANTHONY and DIAMOND Dave. (since the crack has taken your memory) BTW! If you can’t tell the difference between a CZ and a diamond Val may want to check her jewlery to make sure it’s right. (You know them crack fiends, buying crap off the streets that turns out to be bunk). Your attitude and destroyed what I thought about you and I hope you wake up before it’s too late you burnout! Wolfie, put the twinkies down. Val, fight for supervised visitation until he gets his shit together.

Danns | 1/28/2007, 4:33 pm EST

Wow, what a saga! I say, go with it. Let your son into the band, and out with the other dudes. It would be different and interesting. The othere guys from the past, made fantastic contributions to the band; that is over now. Move on, and try something different. If all fails with your son as the new addition, you can always do another tour, with all of the original dudes from VH. You can do two sets. One with Roth in the first set, and one with Sammy, in the second set. Either way, its your band, and nobody, including the die-hard fans, should really have a say in what you choose to do. I wish the newest incarnation of VH, well.

Gunner | 1/28/2007, 10:14 pm EST

Yep, I give the VH/DLR reunion a month TOPS! Eddie yer’ washed up and just a plain dumb ass looser. Alex your a knob for staying with your brother, the dude (or should I say “dufass”) has problems. He’s a very sick human being. And to put your 15 year old son Wolfie in as new bass player? Valerie will take care of that I’m sure. (If you don’t, I’ll shake my head at you as well Valerie)

MIKE & SAMMY I hope you two ROCK ON and may the music live forever!!!!

Chris | 1/29/2007, 8:48 am EST

Hey Eddie, whatever VH line up you decide, just make sure the Diamond One is on that mike, and come to Australia first. We missed out last time (1998). Dave kicked arse in 1988, but it would have been better if the VH (with Dave)machine is here. Good rocking!!

Boris D. Spider | 1/29/2007, 1:30 pm EST

I’d say Mike has done a really good job over the years locking in with a drummer who wasn’t even listening to him…

Van Halen is #1 and will always be.I I grew up with VH and I overendulged in my own addictions for 30 years I am sober now and still will listen to old and awsome VH.For people who keep bashing eddy too bad for you work your own program and let eddy live his life we all have skeleton in our closets…..

Edward has been unfairly “misquoted” in recent interviews. I am affiliated with the Pathology Laboratory that Edward help create. We are a state of the art laboratory that specializes in Dermatopathology (The study of the causes and nature of skin diseases) He has lent his knowledge of technology to assist in the practices of medicine (bar coding, digital imaging). Edward is not only an asset to the musical landscape but a great humanitarian that has not used his generosity to aid his celebrity.

Iggyfritz | 2/5/2007, 4:22 am EST

Myself, being a musician for 35yrs the first time i heard VH, i was taken by the high energy, great vocal harmony and “pyro guitar” Also the over-all “we kick ass attitude” first albums always seem to capture a young bands determination. Then enter money, women, drugs, bad management and it becomes a rollercoster ride. Eddy if you read this, before it’s to late; get some help! i dont know what is wrong i can only tell that something is wrong! VH has inspired so many people in a positive way, no matter who is the front man. But to dis your right arm, your Bass player! and your fellow bandmates! Hmmmm it’s time to tune up your life before it goes out of tune. We Love you Eddie dont disapoint us especialy your Family and those who care about you! shut up and play your guitar — “sober”! Frank Zappa would kick your ass if he saw what your doing. Wake up we miss you!

Where’s the Eddie guru guitarist who loved his insturment? and now dances with drugs. its never to late Eddie to get your life back!

Sarcastic Note:

EVH – Emotionally Vain Has-been

I do not look forward to the AARP/Nicholodean tour (sorry if I offended anyone’s age – I just couldn’t resist)

I remember when my late older brother brought home Van Halen’s first LP. I grew to love Van Halen along with other bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, because my brother influenced me. Eddie, I have been a loyal fan of VH forever, even took it when people make fun of me for still loving a “washed-up” band and look what you did. My husband took me to see you guys in 2004 and your playing and energy was not up to par; but I was really impressed with Alex and Michael – thanks guys and Sammy is so gracious to his fans – pretty classy for a rock musician. Guys, please lay off of Wolfie; especially his weight, he is just a kid; yes, his dad is an ass and has a drug and anger problem, but to Wolfie, that is still his dad. Alex and Valerie will keep an eye on Wolfie and we don’t hear everything, I am sure they are trying everything with Eddie and doing the best they can. He needs an intervention. David Lee, just bail buddy; you are being used and you are better than that – we still love your entertainment and you can do other things. To that girl Eddie is dating, Janie, what the hell are doing and what kind of press agent are you girl; if you love this guy and not just for his money, do something to help him; geez, I don’t get some of you girls these days; will do anything to stay with a musician.

Eddie – get better soon, before it’s too late and you lose Alex and Wolfie too!

guitarlewie | 4/5/2007, 12:29 pm EST

VH does not suck. If you like rock music AT ALL, VH is amazing. If you don’t like Van Haggar then check out the older VH DLR albums. If you don’t like either, than you don’t like rock.

I agree that Eddie seems to be going through some things that are making him bitter and disagreeable, but he is still one of the best (the best in my opinion) guitarists to have ever lived. No modern rock band would sound the same without his influence. So, let’s not be so cooler-than-cool, like a brainless Beavis and Butt-head, and simply say he sucks. If you don’t like it, fine; that’s your opinion, and you are entitled to it. But, don’t be such a weenie as to blast him on the internet. If any of you were as good of a musician, you’d be too busy to waste your time hating people on the net. If you are that good, then stop wasting your time and put out some music. Then, maybe, people who aren’t as good as you can blast you on the internet too.

For those of us that still like VH and don’t hate the world, check out this site to find out exactly what gear Eddie uses:

Ed's dead, baby, Ed's dead | 7/8/2007, 11:58 pm EST

Van-Halen in Ed’s mind is a franchise he can hand over to his kid.

The Van Halen that now exists is a salty greasy nasty fast food stand and he has been trying to feed his fans shit for the last 10 years.

Poor Dimebag. He is buried with this scumbags guitar. The wrong guitarist is buried in that KISS coffin.

Ed’s dead, baby, Ed’s dead.

Ed's dead, baby, Ed's dead | 7/9/2007, 12:06 am EST

The “good times” are not back, sorry to say. This recent venture is the equivalent of putting your divorced parents back together and having them try to “make nice” during your child’s baptism.
They’re low on cash and that’s all there is to the picture. As so many others have stated, this is all about the money and nothing more. This isn’t even about the band hardly anymore as much as it probably is a record company trying to squeeze more blood out of this already dried up turnip.

EVH's Tongue | 7/9/2007, 12:08 am EST

A lot of “us” are in it because Van Halen (including Hagar) did make some quality music at one point which had a positive influence on us. So it wasn’t about the “money” but rather the feeling we all got from their music which gave us the satisfaction.
Oh, and by the way, life did go on after DLR and it involved Hagar. Obviously you’re only interested that “Goofball” DLR came home after all these years and now everyone’s happy again. Don’t forget that DLR sold you out back in ‘85 when HE left Van Halen; not the other way around.
For those who did see Roth in recent years, the answer is “no”, he did not sound good. It’s something that’s called “age” and it affects us all. So don’t go to a show expecting DLR to be the diamond stud he was back on the “Fair Warning” tour where every woman wanted him and every guy wanted to be him. DLR ain’t gonna be performing the same.
This ain’t negative posting; it’s more of dose of reality to their pseudo-togetherness. Just like some folks couldn’t understand that Hagar was ever in the band, I can’t understand how gullible people can be concerning this mock-reunion, or whatever it is.

Craig M | 8/13/2007, 9:48 pm EST

Guys Guys guys guys (maybe some girls?)…Guys. Please give the man a break. EVH is an ARTISTE-with an “e” at the end – and I highly doubt this a lack of cash issue ie: “about the money” – if Jim Morrison were acting this way somehow you would find it in your souls to cut the guy some slack. Uhmm, Aahhh, ya know Ed’s Dad died of Cancer, Duhh, forgive him if he has a somewhat cavalier attitude about the disease.

The Deej | 8/14/2007, 7:43 pm EST

I love how all you ‘know it all’ little punks talk all this crap, and yet not ONE of you could ever touch this guy on a guitar… Period. You just sit there typing away at a PC spewing your fecal matter at a screen, while this dude actually ‘DID’ something with his life… For what it’s worth. Rock and roll guitar was pretty damn stale until Eddie Van Halen came along. His playing took guitar into a whole new universe of possibilities. Any guitar player whose nuts have dropped will tell you that much. From being in bands all my life I can tell you that lead singers are ALWAYS a problem. They have huge egos and always seem to eventually forget that music is a band effort. Eddie is not going to be the guy playing guitar for (insert asshat here ) he is Edward freakin’ Van Halen and he writes music and wants all loyalty to be to that music. Not the ego of a lead singer. So sit back and call him names all you want and talk all the crap you want. At the end of the day. He’s made a HUGE difference in the music you listen to now, and for the better. And I don’t care if Rick James is singing for Van Halen, as long as Eddie is playing his music. I’ll be in the front row cheering him on! As for wolfie… You guys ain’t seen nothing of this kid yet and your’e already talkin’ smack. Michael Anthony is a guy we love and respect and the differences between Eddie and various lead singers shouldn’t steer your outrage to him. For me… I’ll give him a chance he’s probably going to surprise the lot of us before it’s over. Eddie has his issues, but DLR is an egomaniac, and Sammy isn’t far behind him these days either… Michael is just side stepping the crossfire. I hope it works out for him okay. Lay off Eddie and get a freakin’ life already.

Pablo | 8/17/2007, 4:24 pm EST

Being a VH die hard fan as a teenager, I was always amazed by Eddie’s guitar playing. However, later on and as years passed, I think I have been ever more baffled and in a way frustrated, at what a waste of talent he became and lack of evolvement/maturity in his musicianship.

Besides alcoholism & drugs, I have always suspected a lack of maturity in Eddie’s personality. Reading this interview definitely shows the man has never grown up and that definitely, reflects on his lack of maturity as a musician too. – I mean, at 52 blabbering like a teenager about his son’s sex life and his “hot girlfriend” thinking he sounds cool!

Unfortunately Eddie found early fame, stuck to a musical mold and then all went downhill. I also always question why his only collaborative efforts was none other that with Micheal Jackson! – whereas so many other great guitarists excell in solo or side projects with other great musicians.

Please don´t get me wrong; if Van Halen ever comes to town I´ll definitely gow see them. As far as Eddie, I still hope to see him drop his ego and team up with some other great musicians outside of Van Halen, and maybe out of Pop-Rock . … Maybe someone of the likes of Fripp, Jeff Beck, Clapton, Tony Levin, Les Claypool, .. But then again, these are mature and well aged musicians that will continue to evolve until they die and maybe I’m also guessing Eddie is just as unbearable to get along with as as DLR. Too bad!

someone | 8/29/2007, 7:28 am EST

Hey, Pablo, with all due respect, I’m sure, you really don’t know what you’re talking about in regards to collaborations with other artists. Why does it matter who he collaborates with? It doesn’t. Besides, the record Eddie most well-known for collaborating on outsold all of those other guitarists collaborations combined.

Big VH fan. Hate to see what a tool an idolized talent can actually turn out to be. However, anyone who has EVER met Edward will tell you that he has ALWAYS been egotistical. Hell, he even played with his BACK to the fans in the early days so no one would copy his style. No one wants to copy his style now.

We need a new Eddie. Someone to put the kick back in ass-kicking rock. I am looking for bandmates. HAHAHA

EVH is nothing short of a piece of work. He’s mad at Dave, then Sammy, now Mikey. To expose your son to a major tour at
Wolf’s age is irresponsible and selfish. The kid isnt ready. If you want to honor your son, quick smoking. Went to the Portland show. Not bad. But guess why the setlist is the same from show to show? The background vocals are canned just like the keyboards are. This is quite evident from the 9th row. Bottom line: not the same if isnt the original four. Dave is desperate or he to would say what nearly everyone else is saying, “Mike got screwed!”

wooo | 12/9/2007, 5:30 pm EST

EVH is awsome n he is a great guitar god

Joe Dylan | 12/20/2007, 7:47 pm EST

Sammy and Mike might be a coverband. But with all the canned vocals and canned music, the New Van Halen is little more than glorified Karoake.

eddie van schmalen | 12/22/2007, 5:07 am EST

you need proof that EVH is a total tool…he named his son Wolfgang. That’s all i needed to hear. And to all the EVH praisers out there giving the “erruption” challenge, believe me it can be done. If you got the speed and practice your chops you too can play VH solos. I was playing them by age 14 or 15 and that was the early ’90s. Sure he’s an excellent guitarist and very innovative especially for the 80’s, but his shit aint impossible.

Shane Omac | 12/26/2007, 2:16 am EST

How is wolfgang this great bass player? first off what’s great? Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, Flea…those are great bass players so…is wolfgang like those guys? I just see Eddie pushing his son into doing this and at some point his son is going to develop into this spineless person thats afraid to piss off daddy or he’s going to man up and tell dad to go to hell. Why would you want to bring that into this band? Wolfgang go out and form your own band and write your own music with people your age! More and more I’m losing the taste for this band and their music because of all of this. I grew up learning how to play hot for teacher and panama on guitar. Eddie was my hero and his creativity is what Ive always liked most about him but he’s no god and his behavior just shows how much of a true jerk he is. Infact I dont even think of him in the same space as beck, hendrix, clapton or paige and Randy Rhodes was way more talented than him. Eddie talks about sammy and mike peddling hot sauce and tequila…what about that 25000 frakenstein guitar? Now thats insanity…

Alison Alive | 12/31/2007, 12:49 pm EST

Just saw VH in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand. Its a damn shame you can’t hear the musicianship, because it was just too loud! I love rock concerts and live performances but how can you TELL if its good if the sound is 130 db? It also covers up mistakes.

David Lee Roth was very good, though … his voice hasn’t lost its vibralto. EVH was very good, even experimental at times. Alex was a real star, playing his guts out. Amazing virtuosity on drums. Wolfgang looked a bit out of place BUT the kid CAN play, and it was touching to see a happy Dad with his son.

The background canned vocals and keyboards were at times a tad out of sync, but fans didn’t care. It rocked, and all were happy EXCEPT for it being too loud to really enjoy the songs.

Price was $265 for two tickets. Ouch!

BTW DLR and Eddie both are VERY in shape and still hot, but I went for the tunes.

The real reason Ed hates Mike is, because he`s jealous of Mike`s close friendship with Sam.
Eddie was best friends with Sam(living next door together) until the 1996 break up!

Look at recent you-tube footage of VH concerts. Eddie has moved his mic and guitar rig to the center of the stage (in front of the drums) instead of his traditional spot on the right. How much does he need to prove he is the boss? Soon the band will just be called Eddie Van Halen and Dave will have to sing from behind the amplifiers. SAD !!

Hello Rock & Roll fans! I saw VH twice in 1978 and 1979. GREAT SHOWS! Guitar prodigy! Dedicated musician! Their 1st album was SO great that it was all downhill after that…Of course Eddie is the band just like Led Zep was the Jimmy Page show. Separate the ART from the artist – I mean Elvis was also a good entertainer but I would not want to hang out with a person like that. The only thing about Eddie, aside from his personal problems and “issues”, was his tasteless paint stripes on his early guitars and shabby stage clothing or absense thereof…a little too prissy for my taste. Now I would say to him – Go buy yourself a nice shirt man! You are now 53, not 21 anymore. The guy can’t play with any feeling or emotion but is technically brilliant! As for his son, NEPOTISM rules Hollywood or Hollywierd or whatever that place is…I would not pay $300 to see anybody now. Why don’t these people who are so talented – instead of reunion tours playing the same material over and over again – Get involved in worthy causes that need help & publicity, start a new business, discover and help new musicians get started ETC?? I will close by saying long live Rock & Roll. Peace, love and all the best to you all out there in cyberspace!

I remember seeing VH on their very first world tour as headliners and my hometown of Fresno was the first stop. What a show! It was funny because the opening band “The Faboulous Poodles” got booed off and only lasted 3 songs. Some 29 yrs later Van Halen are still holding the reign as one of the top rock bands and hats off to Wolfie who has proved himself as well!

I have been a Van Halen fan from age 10 but never got to see them with Roth until and few weeks ago. Being a true VH fan and knowing every word, note and scream…I was a completely let down. Something is wrong with Eddie and I have a feeling the truth will be out soon. He has lost his touch and Dave has lost his voice. Wolf did a great job, Alex was ok but you could tell age has caught up with him. I HATE to say it but the rein is over, they ARE washed up, its time for Wolf to give us something fresh.

bomber442 | 3/12/2008, 10:02 pm EST

harag was ans is the best thing that happend to that band , at least hagar is for the fans not himself , and with mikie there it makes it a whole differant show

STALLION | 3/15/2008, 10:34 am EST

I’d rather pay $265 to see and hear Valerie talk about Jenny Craig than be subjected to EVH’s blatherings. The guy ruled at one time…geez did I mention how HOT Valerie STILL is…even at near 50??? I spanked it to her during One Day at a Time and on occasion, still do…lol

James | 3/17/2008, 2:30 pm EST

Yeah Tommy, Slayer is great. LMAO, Yeah. Believe what you’d like.

Anonymous | 3/19/2008, 6:37 pm EST

Van Halen goes on tour with diamond Dave and no one really gives a shit. Led Zeppelin Anounces one show (minus bonzo of course) And people are foaming at the mouth. I think this proves Van Halen is no where the level Eddie seems to think they are

ratsalad | 3/19/2008, 8:36 pm EST

Van Halen goes on tour with Diamond Dave as the frontman and no one gives a shit. Led Zeppelin announces one show(minus bonzo of course) and people are foaming at the mouth. I belive this indicates that van halen is not nearly on the level eddie thinks he is. Plus its easy to make a guitar sound good when you modulate it as much as he does.

brian | 3/21/2008, 2:42 pm EST

eddie van halen has ego guitar disease and they should get back into a studio with dave, sammy, or mike.

Greg Danis | 3/21/2008, 10:54 pm EST

Google Dr Phil and Van Halen, Eddie is a Perfectionist, he only wants the best! Eddie is a gift, and Wolfy will be the man!!! David is a idiot!!! All they need is a great front man, and they will make quality music

Greg Danis | 3/21/2008, 11:07 pm EST

If know anything about music you know that eddie is top 5 with
Randy Rhodes
Eddie Van Halen
Stevie Ray
Prince, yea Prince, do your homework

#4 was Santana, If you know music!!ie. last post

evh1 | 3/21/2008, 11:16 pm EST

ok, to all you eddie van halen detractors who posted. you can say what you like about his personality and personal life. but learn to separate the person from the musician. please, the guy will go down in rock history like a hendrix, ie., someone who forever changed the way the guitar can be played. with the exception of jimi, no one puts themselves into their guitar playing the way that eddie does…that is the definition of a true artist…you would not be posting here if you were never moved by the smoldering ‘eruption’ or any of the songs on vh1, or ‘unchained’, ‘the cradle will rock’, etc., etc.,
eddie could make an atomic bomb in his basement and blow up the world tomorrow, but that would not change the fact that he is a great guitar player, so leave him alone and let the music do the talking…

JC | 3/22/2008, 10:54 pm EST

If I wanted to hear soulless mastubatory overplaying, I’d put a Van Halen record on. Oh…yeah.

Jackson Wallace | 3/26/2008, 5:09 pm EST

here’s the final word on Van Halen…first record – a piece of rock history without a doubt, with no bad songs, and songs in styles like Atomic Punk, that they never returned to but should have. It was recorded with very few or no overdubs. The band was young and white hot. The second record was good, a definite step up commercially but down in quality of songs, though still great production. The records until 1984 had a couple of good songs, but seemed distracted. 1984 – Another great album, not as good as the first, but pretty damn good, with nice guitar solos, and innovative keywork and drums. Jump was pop, but it was still very musically impressive. All the Hagar stuff to me was over-sweet radio-friendly humrless shlock, missing Roth’s power and irony.
No way was above or equal to Hendrix, Page, Santana, or Pete Townshend for that matter, but he was the best after them. Saying it was modulation is pure bs. The guy was an acrobat on guitar. In fact he probably did as much non-standard trick innovation as anyone since Hendrix. I’m sure they were all dicks. He’s an alkie. Alkies are impossible…

stooper | 4/2/2008, 4:13 pm EST

Lovers and haters alike…the first post is 9-06 and the last post is 4-08. I’ve read most and can only say that Eddie is loved and hated alike. Kinda like the Yankees and Cowboys. Seems to me that most of you hate his ego more than anything else. Leave it alone. We all have our fave guitarists. Give the man credit. He is a musical genius. Sorta like all those nut cases from centuries ago. Finger tapping is pretty easy but he did take it to where it is today. Steve Vai is the ultimate shredder though. I do have to give it to Eddie, he has more catchy guitar riffs than anyone that I know. Corrections are welcome.

I read alot of these blogs and it seems that maybe two percent of you actually play the guitar. If you want to talk about the things he says or the way he chooses to live his life then look in the mirror. Who the Hell cares? We are talking about a guitarist. Simple. I love Steve Vai, Joe Satch, Malmasteen and more. These Guys are all great. Yet, for me, fairly simple to figure out and play in the same manner in which they were performed by the artist. I figure out Mozart violin and piano parts just for fun. All of them are easier to duplicate than an Eddie Van Halen solo. His solos are mostly improvised, or Improvised and relearned. He has such a unique emotional content to his playing that it is difficult to reproduce. “Far Beyond the sun” by Malmsteen, easy to learn and duplicate. The Solo from Ice Cream Man? You can play the notes but few guitarist can make the same melody because you can’t duplicate the emotional content of his playing. I have never heard “Running with the Devil” played by a copy band. That solo sounds simple but truth is guitarist just cant wrap their heads around it. They just cant get it right. Ever hear a band play “Beautiful Girls” live? My band does because I am an excellent guitarist. But, though I try, I can not teach other guitarist I know to play it and capture the feel of it. They Just can’t wrap their heads around his right hand technique. And thats just the song, not the solo, which is very simple yet still difficult to capture in essence. So say what you will about his life. If he had sex with sheep he would still be one of the most emotionally gifted guitarist in the world!

p.s.If you want to comment about me, go ahead. I’ll never be back here because it’s full of sniveling little dipshits!

What is it all 100 years from now who is the best guitarist?there are simply so many styles out there that no one can master them all!!!

I somewhat think for what eddie was doing was a great new twist for the guitar not leaving out any styles and other guitarist but only to make even worldwide guitarist smile just a little longer on the instrument we all love.

Considering the drug and alcohal problems that BOTH of his parents have admited to what was the parental logic behind letting a 15 year old CHILD go on tour with Van Halen? Hello!!! Let’s just reserve a room in drug rehab for him now.

EVH is a God of rock music | 4/27/2009, 8:50 pm EST

Edward Van Halen will always be a rock music God. His musical intelligence, creative energy, instrumental ability and commitment to his art and discipline as entertainment is equal to or greater than any of his peers (including Page, May, Vai, Satriani, Roades, Johnson, Morse, etc)

Picking out one EVH interview and ignoring his broader contribution to music is just opportunistic sensationalism and symptomatic of desperate journalists (with limited musical talent) whoring for online market share. If only you losers could just wake up from that conceited, limited little dream you call a life, you would not bother with such narrow misrepresentations.

Long after all the 20th century critics are dead and forgotten, EVH’s music will live on and entertain millions.

Give Ed a break ! He lost his wife , his dignity and his tongue . He’s only human , not a God , and not perfect . And hey , this is Howard Stern , he could twist Mother Teresa’s word and make her look evil and wasted too !!!!

1978 was the year, Van Halen opens for Black Sabbath in Mobile Al. I was 15, and had been playing guitar for 5 years on a box, next day after the concert, I bought the album and an electric guitar and my world has never been the same since. His music goes without words in the true sense. Inspiring and undertermined in its meaning. This is why we love him. We are all still trying to figure it out, but thats just it. That’s the fun of it. Just enjoy his art folks and leave everything else alone…wouldn’t you want the same?

you all should lay off the cruel comments about eddie’s son ..he is a 15 year old boy…
i think some of you blindly declaring ‘eddie is a god’ are missing the point. the interview once again and even mor glaringly brought to the forefront who realy has been the problem in VH.. eddie has has shown himself to be immature, arrogant, egocentric and just plain weird especially with regard to his son. eddie you need to be at the very least, a better role model to your son.

Holly Louwsma | 10/16/2009, 11:38 pm EST

I am only 18 but I have been listening to VH since I was in the womb! I wasn’t even born when I went to my first VH concert! I am glad wolfie is in the band now, he has his dad and uncles talent, for sure, as well as his moms looks. I went to their concert last year in the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids and I was blown away!( Yes, even Diamond Dave rocked it)I even snuck onto the floor seats and got up to the stage…but 5 minutes later I was dragged away!( I ran into a aisle so I wouldn’t have to go back to my seat haha) I do miss micheal as the bassist, but wolfie is just as good.besides, I am 3 days older than him, so…..call me wolfie! ;) . Anyways, VH is and always will be my favorite band no matter what. When its love baby!!!!!

IRememberWhen | 10/19/2009, 3:33 pm EST

I didn’t hear the interview, so I’m not going to believe this article 100%. Come on folks, this is Rolling Stone we’re talking about here. Like 1 poster said, these jackasses have put down the best bands in history. What the fuck do they know?! Still, EVH is no doubt a mess. IF he did mention Wolfgang’s sexual activities in public, that’s pretty pathetic. Like Ozzy, he’s fried his brain. The price of success. For most of them, it’s either end up dead and a legacy, or burnt out and useless. I will never take for granted what greats like EVH and VH WITH DLR have brought us. Van Halen died with the 1984 album. Sammy is good and all, but that wasn’t VH and we all know it. Time to cherish those first REAL VH albums and realize it aint’ gonna happen again. By the way Eddie, get some fucking help man. I think it’s time.

danofsydney | 10/20/2009, 9:35 pm EST

Eddie Van Halen is a complete dumbfuck. He proved he was a deluded fuckhead when he said “Vai just does the same thing I do but faster” back in the 80’s. Theres more than a dozen Guitar Greats that leave this clown for dead.

robroe48 | 10/30/2009, 6:07 am EST

Too much alcohol and hard partying
caused his problems. Comments about
his son are things that reasonable parents just don’t do. He has always been a great guitarist,no
matter what anybody says. I wish him luck on whatever future projects he does.

Spiral Helix | 11/5/2009, 1:57 pm EST

To me, only the original 4 make VH. Ego/behavior aside, Eddie is one of rock’s most influential players, tho I feel he is more technique than soul. Back in ‘78, I wore-out 3 VH1 tapes in my Chevelle. Good times. Period. Let’s wish them all the best of luck.
