More Details on Jay-Z Album Emerge

9/13/06, 6:03 pm EST

Jay-ZInformation regarding Jay-Z’s first post-retirement record is coming out. The first single is reportedly going to be called “Show Me What You Got” and the record will be titled Kingdom Come. The record is going to feature guest appearances by Kanye West, the Neptunes, Dr. Dre, Beyonce, Timbaland, and Chris Martin (oh god, Jigga – there’s still time to make changes). Hype Williams will direct the video for the single.

Meanwhile, as predicted, Jay-Z’s woman, Beyonce, scored a #1 debut with her second solo album B-Day, moving 541,196 copies in the record’s first week on the charts. Guess that whole smear campaign thing was a real wash.

Ankur | 9/13/2006, 8:03 pm EST

He’s taking the Michael Jordan approach to retiring, then.

Kyle | 9/13/2006, 8:16 pm EST

I think we all knew that he’d come back. If it’s anywhere near “The Black Album”, I think we are all in for a treat.

Ryan | 9/13/2006, 8:40 pm EST

He can’t leave rap alone. The game needs him.

Sean | 9/13/2006, 8:42 pm EST

i’m a big fan jay. when people discuss the best mc’s of all time, jay can easily be in the top 3 or at least the top 5. with that said, i can’t help but think that it’s a little odd that jay is coming out of retirement so soon. don’t get me wrong, i understand that as an artist it’s
damn near impossible to just one day decide to no longer indulge in something that has brought you so much joy. but why now?? could it be because other than kanye, no one on roc-a-fella has done anything relevant in years?? just something to think about…

Well Eggy | 9/13/2006, 8:49 pm EST

Jay-Z running Def Jam is like Bono running Sony Music. How do you expect this guy to give a shit about anybody else’s record when he’s been plotting this huge comeback the whole time? And btw, lil’ homey Nas is gonna get the ass end of this stick. Once again!

Keith | 9/13/2006, 9:13 pm EST

Let’s face it, if you like the Jigga Man you and I were both terribly disappointed when he announced his retirement. Bring it on. I won’t even wait to download this one. I’ll be in line when it hits the stores. The Black Album is the only cd that never leaves my car cd changer.

idioteque | 9/13/2006, 9:15 pm EST

Chris Martin? I don’t like the sound of that.

joe | 9/13/2006, 9:56 pm EST

chris martin? that has a cool ring to it so far. why is everyone not digging that? remember kanye with adam levine (from maroon5)? that turned out, could be the same kind of deal.

THAROCK | 9/13/2006, 9:57 pm EST

No one can stop God Hova. 50 cent, garbage. Eminem, garbage! Kanye west, Garbage! Everyone in the game right now is all copying what Jiga has done in some sort of Fashion. When Hova comes back to the MIC it is all done for all those wanna be jiggas, coff; TI. Hova is king! its tha rock!

Boy | 9/13/2006, 10:00 pm EST

Nawal | 9/13/2006, 10:17 pm EST

Ben | 9/13/2006, 10:31 pm EST

We all know that the Black Album was waaayy too flaw to be Jay’s last hoorah–at least until the Grey Album hit.
Regardless of that, it’s great to see the great one come back..officially. Especially if his tracks can knock all that Young Joc sh** off the airwaves!

Norm | 9/13/2006, 10:48 pm EST

November can’t come soon enough.

james ward | 9/13/2006, 11:28 pm EST

RockGod | 9/14/2006, 12:17 am EST

Jay Z is a bum…. his contribution to a genre that is soon to fade away means nothing… how can rap even be considered a type of music… its so worthless listening to a bunch of rich kids rhyme about being tough… if you really want to here worthy rap, go listen to DMX, Ja Rule, or even Bone Thugs, not this sandle wearing bitch….

M | 9/14/2006, 12:53 am EST

Welcome back Jay!! but wasn’t “the black album” your last blast at the rap game? I guess all that talk about accomplishing everything you wanted in rap was a great big lie

Stay retired and spend time with your fine girl.

cody | 9/14/2006, 1:29 am EST

i cant believe that dude said ja rule was worthy rap. and how is rap a fading genre? rap albums kinda sell more than rock albums. and i’m a huge rock fan..

Mack | 9/14/2006, 7:58 am EST

Out of all the talent in the world jay just could’nt stay retired and cocentrate on someone refreshing and new to put out here! – Whatsup! His girl wit all that aint enough to keep him occupied or what!

Dan | 9/14/2006, 10:25 am EST

sometimes i put too much milk in my oatmeal.

JoJo | 9/14/2006, 12:16 pm EST

Ja Rule is worthy rap? Have you even heard his ass “rapping”? Ashanti is a better “rapper” than him. DUH

Lance | 9/14/2006, 2:42 pm EST

It’s about time the Micheal Jordan rap made his comeback

Josh | 9/14/2006, 3:48 pm EST

jay z is the most overrated rapper of all time

Josh | 9/14/2006, 3:50 pm EST

and his retirement was all just a ploy to up sales for both the black album, and for this album

when he announced his “retirement”, i believed it as much as i believed it was “ozzy’s last tour”

Andrew Miller | 9/15/2006, 12:55 am EST

Back to bless the game. He’s modeled his career after MJ — of course he’s back. I could live without the collabos though. Got by fine on The Black Album without’em. Welcome back, Hov.

SHiN | 9/18/2006, 4:00 am EST

wtf is chris martin??? im guessin hes some rock bum. btw, i didnt listen 2 his collab wit linkin park but i can say dis: rock an rap dont mix…so dont put em together! its only worked rarely, like wit “99 problems”. i guess da dogg aint got enuff doe bein a ceo an sellin 9 albums, plus him prolly sharin proceeds wit beyonce’s fyne self. i jus hope this shyits a classic like “the dynasty” or “hard knock life” or da dude needa seriously hang up da towel an let nas take his crown.nuthin sucks mo than a halfassed comeback album dat makes ya wish someone stay retired an be remembered as dope.
