Usually when Mathew Knowles (Beyonce’s father and sometimes manager) shoots his mouth off we’re kinda like “yeah yeah yeah, please stop talking now.” But we’re starting to wonder if there isn’t something to his seemingly preposterous theory that someone somewhere out there is trying to sabotage the success of Beyonce’s new record, B-Day, which came out this Tuesday.
There was the whole fan-driven outrage regarding the supposed sleaziness of of B’s video for single “Déjà Vu,” then the is-Jay-Z-boning-Rihanna speculation, then the rumor spread that Beyonce actively changed the release schedule for her singles to compete with former Destiny’s Child LeToya’s new record, there was chatter about Beyonce having supposedly fired her dad, and now there’s talk that Beyonce’s record has angered Paramount executives who wanted the Dreamgirls soundtrack to be Ms. Knowles next musical release. Here’s the thing though, all signs point to this record being one of the biggest debuts of the year so far, set to sell more than 600,000 copies in its first week. We’ll know for sure next week, but in the meantime, if a conspiracy is indeed afoot, we have to say the execution was pretty shoddy.
