Richard | 9/7/2006, 6:44 pm EST

Andy – really, you’re an idiot.

It’s like saying Michael Jordan was the most overrated basketball player ever.

Craig | 9/7/2006, 6:50 pm EST

God Bless the Dead

Jay | 9/7/2006, 6:59 pm EST

Clearly, Andy has never really heard 2pac’s music. Just another deaf ear and dumb mind.

Brian | 9/7/2006, 7:04 pm EST

“If I Die 2Nite” and “So Many Tears” are probably my favorites, but there are many. He was such a great MC.

Dallas | 9/7/2006, 7:13 pm EST

Jake | 9/7/2006, 8:17 pm EST

Tupac was one of the best MC’s of all time….BEFORE he signed with Death Row. Then all of his songs became meaningless shit.

2pac | 9/7/2006, 8:40 pm EST

Dee | 9/7/2006, 10:15 pm EST

Where are the real Pac fans? No one has mentioned ‘Bomb First’,'Pain’ or ‘Picture Me Rollin’. Not to mention ‘Death Around the Corner. I can go on and on. Everybody’s posting his most commercially successful songs.

benny | 9/7/2006, 11:33 pm EST

goin all out is my fav pac song

benny | 9/7/2006, 11:34 pm EST

Bob | 9/8/2006, 12:00 am EST

It ain’t easy,
Can you get away..
basically the second half of me against the world plus changes, hail mary, against all odds and a couple more

Richard Krueger | 9/8/2006, 12:05 am EST

Tupac is a little overrated. His image helped him sell more records than his actual lyrical skills dictate. You want better rappers? Biggie, Rakim, Jay-Z, Nas, and Snoop in his prime (he has lost almost all of his vocabulary)

thedudeabides | 9/8/2006, 12:27 am EST

im trying to find my friends but their blowing in the wind…i get a kick out of that

JayRoy | 9/8/2006, 12:31 am EST

its cool that andy thinks that pac is overrated. the rest of us know better. but i’m always surprised by how people that claim that they are real tupac fans often list “hit em up” as one of his best songs, yet no one ever mentions “holla at me.” – “hit em up” is a good trash talkin song, but i believe “holla at me” is much more accurate in portraying how tupac really felt toward biggie and his wrongful incarceration. that is why this is my favorite tupac song.

JayRoy | 9/8/2006, 12:38 am EST

how could u do me like that/i took your family in/i put some cash in yo pocket/made u a man again/and now u let the fear put yo ass in a place complicated to escape/its a fools fate/without your word/you’s a shell of a man/i lost respect for you nigga/we could never be friends/i know what runnin through yo head now/if it was up to you i’d be dead now
“holla at me”
All eyez on me/book 2

I LIKE ALL THE ONEZ ABOUT HIZZ MAMA!

Bishop - Cisco | 9/8/2006, 2:20 am EST

It wasn’t just the music that made him great, but that e was the first to be the way he was. We saw it back from Juice days. Before 50 or any other wanna be ruffnecks now-a-days.

“To Live And Die In L.A.” off the Machiavelli disc. Great beats!

Belladawn | 9/8/2006, 11:44 am EST

Pac was more than lyrics and beats. People loved him for what he embodied. It doesnt matter what his best songs are because he’s a legend. I mean on Frank Sinatra’s death anniversary are people picking out their favorite old Blue Eyes songs? Pac is a Legend! The Black Elvis! I love his whole catalog, and energy, intelligence, and brashness he bought to the game. The people that love him will be bumpin’ all his music, cause we never stopped!

Love cup | 9/8/2006, 11:51 am EST

He was good. Get over it.

shock g | 9/8/2006, 12:03 pm EST

“I mean on Frank Sinatra’s death anniversary are people picking out their favorite old Blue Eyes songs?”

of course they are! people do this for every great musician. it’s a way to celebrate and remember their art.

Zack | 9/8/2006, 12:03 pm EST

Hail Mary. How could you forget Hail Mary:

I ain’t a killer but dont push me
Revenge is like the sweetest joy next to gettin pussy
Picture paragraphs unloaded, wise words being quoted
Peeped the weakness in the rap game and sewed it

Zack | 9/8/2006, 12:07 pm EST

Picture Me Rollin’ is also a great song. At the end, Pac proclaims:

Any time y’all wanna see me again
Rewind this track right here
Close your eyes,
and picture me rollin

Sean | 9/8/2006, 12:15 pm EST

I’ll be the first to say that as far as mc’s go, tupac would definetely not be number 1 on my all-time list. Rakim clearly gave birth to the style and flow that was later adapted by rappers like nas, biggie, and jay-z. however, tupac was only one that could get on a track, talking about chasing girls around, “thug life”, teen pregnancy, and appreciation for his mama. In a such a short period of time he recorded so many classic songs that made you wanna dance and think at the same time. It’s a shame his career was cut so short.

Zack | 9/8/2006, 12:17 pm EST

Pac, like most rappers, tried to separate themselves from others and show they were superior to all else in the rap game. Pac is the only one who I actually believed did so with ease on ‘You Can’t C Me’. The chorus is superb when George Clinton, raps:
The blind stares
of a million pairs of eyes
lookin’ hard but won’t realize
that they will never see:
the P

The guy was a great rapper, but Jesus Christ, get over it already. It’s not like he cured cancer or anything. Those who live by the sword, die by the sword and he made the choice to live the lifestyle he did and to talk shit about a lot of people. It sucks he got shot, but it’s not surprising. So why don’t we all stop making him out to be some kind of prophet or deity and call him what he really is…a talented gangsta rapper who’s dead.

The Worlds most UNDERrated rapper..

Biggie was highly overrated, but tupac…We have yet to really comprehend his greatness. There is no other Rap artist that comes close

The thing about people who contribute greatly is that they will always be remembered. Look at elvis , frank , miles , etc. Tupac is definitely among the music greats

who knows (or care) when biggie and the others died.

the only dates in our minds are for september 11 , september 13 , and the day that aaliyah died.

I never understood the appeal of 2pac. Probably has something to do with the fact that I’m white and live in Kansas. But he seems like one of those artists whose catalog of music became somehow more important when they ran into the wrong bullet ala Kurt Cobain, Biggie, etc. If he had lived, would we even CARE what 2pac song was our favorite in 2006?

Every song he had was good starting with his very first album to the his last album made before he died which was gang related the soundtrack which yes included many other west coast rappers and all those songs were great but hey starrin through my rearview with the phil collin beat just amazing but we all forget how great of a artist he was its not about the gansta image but his music and pride into making it he will be greatly missed.

Big Johnson | 9/9/2006, 12:07 am EST

What kind of a moron boneheaded dickweed picklepark refugee would even consider putting toopack jerkoff in a league with John Lennon? John Lennon made real music. toopack jerkoff and all those “gangstas” don’t come close to making music. They just make money getting all you idiots to buy their crap cd’s with your mama’s money. …”What kind of a moron boneheaded dickweed picklepark refugee would even consider putting toopack jerkoff in a league with John Lennon? ”
….me…I did…de gustibus non est disputandum!….a latin maxim from a “moron”….to an obviously disturbed name calling small minded,tunnel-visioned,poster. ..too bad…soooo sad!

Dan | 9/9/2006, 11:07 am EST

First of all the term “songs” hardly applies to any rap recording. It’s more like dramatized gutter poetry. Whoever compared any rap thug with John Lennon should be eviscerated. Of all the tracks 2pacaday recorded, here are my favorites:

Dazed & Confused | 9/9/2006, 11:42 am EST

Eviscerated!!!….a bit strong there,Dan…..I think John Lennon would probably be disgusted with your over-reaction…we’re just comparing musical legends…not religion…you can still join the Inquisition if you like disembowling…lighten up, dude…it’s just music talk…ostensibly fun stuff…

Erik E Erik | 9/9/2006, 12:21 pm EST

The only rapper who ever made a real impact on this planet was Vanilla Ice. The Iceman is better than Ghandi, Shakespeare, the Beatles, Mozart and Galileo put together! Was 2Pac ever in a movie with the Ninja Turtles? Hell NO!! Word to your mutha!

Willy Shakespeare:
LUCIUS. Are you not sorry for these nasty heinous deeds, motherf*ck#r?
AARON. Ay, that I had not done a thousand more.
Even now I curse the day- and yet, I think,
Few come within the compass of my curse-
Wherein I did not some notorious ill;
As kill a man, or else devise his death;
Ravish a maid, or plot the way to do it;
Accuse some innocent, and forswear myself;
Set deadly enmity between two friends;
Make poor men’s cattle break their necks;
Set fire on barns and hay-stacks in the night,
And bid the owners quench them with their tears.
Oft have I digg’d up dead men from their graves,
And set them upright at their dear friends’ door
Even when their sorrows almost was forgot,
And on their skins, as on the bark of trees,
Have with my knife carved in Roman letters
‘Let not your sorrow die, though I am dead.’
Tut, I have done a thousand dreadful things
As willingly as one would kill a fly;
And nothing grieves me heartily indeed
But that I cannot do ten thousand more

Vanilla Ice: You’re the fool in the suit
You’re the fool in the suit
You’re the fool, you’re the fool
You’re the fool
F_ck you – there ain’t nothing you can do
You whack bastard – and there ain’t nothing you can do
F_ck you – there ain’t nothing you can do
You whack bastard – nothing you can do
F_ck you…you white a**…bullsh_t…corn-fed trailer park…bi_ch…
F_cking…f_ck you…cheap, worn out…yuppie…bastard…whack a**…
Ice ice baby, ice ice biaaaatch!
Ha ha ha

…great comparison!

It’s hard to fight the rationale of Ninja Turle movies….gotta go with Vanilla Ice. 13 million records sold, Ninja turtles…..Vanilla Ice: most important rapper EVER.

And if you are not a fan of 2Pac or rap music/hip hop culture in general then use another forum. Why bother hating on a person in a place that’s devoted to loving his music? It makes no sense at all.

By the way, he is one of my favorite artists of all time along with Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, GangStarr and A Tribe Called Quest (how’s that for a mix of recording artists?).

I am not here to make 2Pac out to be a saint or some person who transcended a bunch of things. He did have a power and he was definitely someone who brought out extremely passionate reactions in one way or the other (like similar to another 90s fallen artist in Kurt Cobain). He made great music that reflected the contradictions of a certain culture and the hopelessness of a certain part of society. You can’t say that for many artists.

Now enough of my bullshit…continue with the list.

Paul S | 9/11/2006, 1:22 pm EST

Brian, there is not enough room for me to provide a list of better rappers than your beloved Pac – let’s just start with the greats such as BIG, Nas, Jay, Rakim, Kane, KRS, G Rap, Puba.
Pac is somewhere in the mid level range with the likes of Special Ed, Cube and Erick Sermon.

first off tupac is the greates biggie is second then nas there is no debating this biggie bit off tupacs stly tupac schooled biggie on the rap game he told him to rap for the bitchs. tupac started to rapped about his death biggie starts rappin about his death. tupac tattos thug life across his stomach nas tattos god son across his. tupac was more than a rapper he was a revalutionary trying to make a change nobody comes close to pac and his as is still puttin out music and malin money

mic dog mob | 9/13/2006, 5:21 pm EST

tupac is the greates rapper theres no debate the line up is tupac biggie rakim nas jayz biggie is not number 1 biggie is a biter and tupac put out alot more albums biggie is a lyrasist tupac show biggie the rap game he used to open for pac at his shows tupac told biggie to rap for the bitchs tupac raps about his deat abd death then biggie starts rappin about death rakim is the shit hes the best out of all the old school rappers he set the stly but he was as lyriacl as biggie and tupac is just a better rapper then rakim nas is also a biter same with jayz his as just bite off of biggie and he uses so many biggie rhyms that it isnt funny that man even took shit from pac Tupac was more than a he was revolutionary trying to bring about a change

Markaveli | 9/13/2006, 5:48 pm EST

In a word, he can be considered a Genius, 4 what he wrote and 4 what he did.. His muzik has been a relief, always. Nobody will be ever able 2 take his place in hip hop & music history.. Cuz of the bullets in his chest, from now in Peace he will rest, from the east 2 tha west, he’ll always be the best… “You’re appreciated”…

SOULJAHVELI | 9/13/2006, 6:12 pm EST

yo tupac made hip hop soul muzick that reached ppl all across da world….even in africa they had a painting of 2pac put up during tribal war…i remember being shocked when i went to jamaica and saw thug life sprayed against a wall…tupacs image and voice will live 4evr he will out last every other rapper..now in comparison to other rappers such as biggie, nas, jayz, rakim. first of all none of them was da man tupac was or would b today, in personality, work ethic, meaningful metaphors and pro black beliefs…str8 up and down there isnt too many if to say black rappers just nigga rappers! not to exclude likes of roots.mos def, common even etc,let me not digress.biggie was trained by pac more than ppl thought, big was a good rapper with a flow, nutting great bout him really i mean i use to boogie to his songz crazy up in clubs i still could i just dont kno why he is compared with tupac so much!nas on the other hand is the closest even to be bring hip hop soul muzick.despite his many transformations which some rappers do,u can feel nas rhyming from his soul similar to way tupac did..im not gon name songs cause that brings more scrutiny..now jay z? yall kno now he been a swagger jagger..camran called him out,,o no mistake yea his name camran cuz camran at da rucker game left jimmy to git whupped! anyway..jay got good skillz rhyming, very wity as some wud put it and being wity he borrows lyrics prob not consciously thinking of how fans or others might think, rakim is a great in his time period!. yo yalll 2pacwill4evrbeinoursoulnspirit

“How many brothers fell victim to the streets? Rest in peace young nigga there’s a heaven for a G…” For those of you saying negative shit, why are you on this site, reading this article, if you are a hater? Sounds likes racist white people to me, mad that a minority of our time made such an impact on the world.

1. Hail Mary
this song was something else. He was in a different state of mind when he wrote The Seven Day Theory album, which was in 3 days. Other 4 days he looked over the beat production. Album is a classic. I have not heared of anybody else doing this. For that alone he should be considered one of the best.

“Letter To My Unborn Child”
“Troublesome 96′”
“Hit Em’ Up”
“If I Die 2nite”
“Only God Can Judge Me”
“California Love”
“Brenda’s Got A Baby”
“I Ain’t Mad Atcha”
“F*cking With The Wrong N****”

Mike V | 9/14/2006, 10:28 am EST

No one said “Starin’ at the world through my rear-view” wow! Pac was the man!

Matthew | 9/14/2006, 4:54 pm EST

You got me, I’m a racist white person mad that 2pac made money. That completely rational. No, really it is. Keeps me up at night. He got to be rich for a few years when he wasn’t in prison, and then he got shot. Screw my safe, middle class life. That’s the way to go… I’m so jealous

Tupac and Biggie both deserve respect. Those without sin, please throw the first stone? HMMMM, everybody sins. Tupac knew his nature and tried to correct most of what he did wrong.! He is loved because he showed his good and bad sides which most people are afraid to do. Most will remember his good side like when he told down-trodden folks in the ghetto and black women to Keep Ya Head Up, things are gonna get better.” No matter what you’re going through. Also Dear Mama, eventhough you were a Crack fiend, Mama, you always was a black queen. His mom couldn’t get a job for a very long time becuase of her Panthers’ association against the oppression of black folks here in America. Then there was the semi religious ode to a female again in Hail Mary. Most people talk about the Father, the Son, but hardly talk about Dear, sacred Mary! So that is one of the many reasons Tupac is so loved. Imagine if Big Poppa did the same, we all be saying there is a tie on who is the Greatest. In my opinion, Tupac edges Biggie because of those real lyrics! Peace to both of them!

i think tupac is great.did he say bad things.yes.did he talk about negative things in his songs.yes.but the world has negative things in it.he was a great rapper.the best.biggie, nas, jay z,etc can’t compare because didn’t rap about real shit.rap today is almost all shit.85% tops.so i understand why some people don’t listen to rap.NO WOULD LIKE TO IF MOSTLY SHIT!such shit rappers are 50 cent, soulja boy, hurricane chris, etc.i think if tupac was here he wouldn’t stand for it.i can understand you when you say rap is crap.because 85% is crap.but don’t be ignorant and say 100% is crap or that tupac is too.no he is not jesus but he wanted to learn from him.not cranking shit.if you don’t like pac don’t leave a comment dumbasses.every genre of music has shit in it.it is just that rap is 85% shit right now.hip hop is almost dead….
back on topic my favorites are til the end of time and keep ya head up.
