Beatles Sue EMI, We Seek Supersonic Hangover-Curing Elixir

9/1/06, 9:52 am EST

beatlesDisclaimer: don’t ask us what’s going on in the world of rock right now. Our Justin Timberlake, Panic! At the Disco, Fergie post-VMA overexposure sickness is still working its way out of our system. You want a little teaser re: what the night was like? There was no Zima backstage.

  • It’s only taken 27 years, but the Beatles are officially allowed to sue former record label EMI for lost earnings.
  • Meanwhile, tell us this is another symptom of the bad joke hangover? Jamin Orrall (Be Your Own Pet’s lovely drummer) has left the band because he wants to go to college!? Dude, look where that got us. Stick with rocking out. Books are for losers.
  • We’ll take JT trumping Fergie any day. “SexyBack” boosts “London Bridge” off the Hot 100 #1 spot.

Okay. I give. WTF is with the collective Roling Stone obsession with Zima? This is an ironic thing, right?

Zack Newman | 9/1/2006, 4:04 pm EST

i didn’t realize that MTV still had music videos on it. i thought it was a channel for bad, bad reality tv shows.

Aries73 | 9/1/2006, 4:05 pm EST

I am this/close to going to wherever Rolling Stone’s HQ is and backhanding every single idiot writing this dreck on the site.

If you don’t like covering certain artists that are doing well without your endorsement, take your sorry behinds to the local bookstore/coffee shop and bitch to people who give half a damn who you are.

R-n-R | 9/1/2006, 4:17 pm EST

Rolling Stone is total garbage now. The funniest/worst part of it is that they absolutely trash the artists they have had on their cover recently…and don’t think Justin Timberlake won’t be on it in the coming weeks since he has an album coming out. They need to get back to what made them special and not be ‘MTV in a Magazine’, which is what they have become, even though they can’t admit it.

jungleland | 9/1/2006, 4:53 pm EST

With the exception of Lou Reed & Jack White, The MTV Video Music Awards had NOTHING to do with Rock Music. There have been so many good-to-great CDs out this year, not that you would ever know by watching this crap.

Like these:
Wolfmother, Golden Smog, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty,The Raconteurs, Big Star, Strokes, Gnarles Barkley, Golddigger (great song, don’t know the rest of the CD)

Lobsters | 9/1/2006, 6:56 pm EST

Ya know, once The Beatles ditched the matching suits and haircuts they looked like a bunch of total fucking assholes. Which is appropriate.

Ryan | 9/1/2006, 6:57 pm EST

plain and simple mtv ruined everything that was good. nobody even likes it anymore all high school kids hate it. mtv first downed and hid great rock music now they took the rolling stone whats next?

Chuck | 9/1/2006, 7:19 pm EST

I’m done with hearing about Empty-V. I didn’t even watch the VMA’s and I’m already sick hearing about it. Move on to something with meaning. p.s.- I think the VMA’s should switch to awarding reality shows instead of videos they don’t play.

Dire Straits | 9/1/2006, 10:55 pm EST

Get your money for nothing, and your checks for free….

JD | 9/2/2006, 12:04 am EST

Well you have to give RS props for putting Dylan on the cover. At least they still have articles on the Bruce Springsteens, Tom Pettys, Johnny Cashes, Neil Youngs and other legends. And Justin Timberfake? Not a legend in any way.

Dwayne W. | 9/2/2006, 10:50 am EST

I’m glad Fergie has been dethroned by Justin! His song is so much better! Newho, I don’t get how RS, like Blender, disses the same people they put on their cover. It speaks volumes. A perfect example- Paris Hilton is on the cover of the current Blender because she was chosen as the hottest thing (notice I didn’t say person) in music today, yet her album got about 2.5 stars from them (which is a below mediocre grade). If you think these people’s music is so shitty, why the hell do you put them on your cover?! Wouldn’t be surprised to see Fergie next month! Do you want to sell that badly? Another example- you guys covered the VMA’s from the nominations were announced, right up to the night of the performances, yet you were the first guys to say the show sucked! What the fuck? I think it’s very hypocritical. Here’s a tip- revamp your staff and fire Elizabeth Goodman first.

Dude | 9/2/2006, 11:08 am EST

Of any group of people in the United States, MTV should be the LAST giving out awards for music (even the GOP). You only need to look at MTV’s name to know that it’s complete bullshit. They should cut the crap and change the M to an R (for Reality) or S (for Shitty). At least those would be truthful.

james | 9/2/2006, 12:16 pm EST

can everybody quit whining about rollingstone please?
if it wasnt for them rock’s greatest poet (dylan of course) would be little more than a club act.
HE SAID IT FOR HIMSELF FOR CHRISTS SAKE.
and who else is SMART enough to make fun of the pathetic display
that is the vma’s
i personally think that every one of you filthy complainers/perpetrators
are asshole editors and critics from that self indulgent overripe
piece of shit rock mag/website/whatever PITCHFORK
and if not why dont you fuck off and read it instead

Mr. Green Genes | 9/2/2006, 4:19 pm EST

That’s money for nothing and your CHICKS for free. Ugh.

This Machine Destroys TV. | 9/2/2006, 8:53 pm EST

I’m done with MTV. And Rolling Stone for that matter. No good writers. No good articles, save for badly written ones by the dwindling number of decent acts they still interview (Dylan, Pearl Jam-which btw isn’t “Eddie Vedder and the Pearl Jams” as one would think reading anything on the band RS does)
Wasn’t Cream M. suppose to come back? I guess people will be forced to actually come up with their own tastes and opinions on music.

dr. gonzo | 9/2/2006, 11:08 pm EST

Where’s Hunter S. Thompson?

Sinatragarcia | 9/2/2006, 11:16 pm EST

It’s funny. I initially subscribed to Rolling Stone in 1974 as a 10 year old and stuck with it through the 80’s despite frequently feeling the magazine had “sold out”. In the last year, I subscribed again, because the cost is so low, and lo and behold, find it to be tremendously insightful and informative, I know it’s cool to knock Rolling Stone nowadays, so here I go being uncool..again!

eh? | 9/3/2006, 3:04 pm EST

No one else confused by this? any of it!?

simple side | 9/3/2006, 6:11 pm EST

R-n-R
I don’t know if you’ve ever read any of the early articles of RS, but I can remember several instances where Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin and other main artists were ripped to shreads. music journalism is about finding the flaws in artists. they are not salesmen, they’re here to let us know what sucks and what is good. I hope you’re not expecting them to be nicer to these artists. if anything they’re being too lenient with them.

Jack Kiser | 9/4/2006, 2:03 pm EST

I think Rolling Stone needs to forget that MTV bullshit and get back to what made it great . Good articles about good bands makes a magazine with integrity . Hey theres a word that you dont hear much any more . – JK .

h'otter | 9/4/2006, 6:25 pm EST

jungleland: I guess you didn’t actually watch the show, did you? Considering that Gnarls Barkley and Kanye were nominated for two major awards apiece and the Raconteurs performed three different sets as the house band of the evening, you’re full of crap. Oh and by the way… the Raconteurs are Jack White’s band.

rockstrsbaby678 | 9/4/2006, 8:48 pm EST

WTF is up with Jamin Orall?? keep the music man! none of this “college” stuff. the fans want you!

Repus | 9/5/2006, 6:02 am EST

Used to subscribe and used to recommend Rolling Stones…but a few years ago RS lost my support when they lovingly became a biased, overzealous political rag. No thanks…there are better MUSIC magazines out there (and you gotta admit that’s sad when BLENDER destroys ya). The current mag (and for the most part, writers) should be ashamed of where they work. Thanks for destroying the integrity of the mag.

MEGAN | 9/5/2006, 5:11 pm EST

WOW, THIS IS CONFUSING NO ONE IS EVEN TALKING ABOUT THE SUBJECT AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE

Dr. Paul Harrison | 1/22/2007, 10:34 am EST

Please leave The Beatles alone. Half are dead and the other half have their foot on a banana peel over the grave.Without John and all his nuttyness there useless.Paul is boring and with Heather his x-wife, Sir Paul found out the she wouldn’t take his crap like Linda did.

Bryan Burchfield | 1/22/2007, 1:04 pm EST

If Ringo had the right producer instead of the Hudson Brother. He could be one of the biggest stars on the planet today! He and his drum kit need to play dance/techno/top 40 music.I would love to work with Ritchie.

BOB | 1/22/2007, 1:10 pm EST

Fuck Dr.Paul Harrison(two spaces down), and his great words of wisdom. The Beatles are still the best. Number 9, Number 9, Number 9.

Ralph | 1/24/2007, 9:34 pm EST

The Beatles are the greatest in this world, the next world,in any world and you better believe it baby!

Reject Rocker | 9/17/2007, 8:05 pm EST
