posh spice

  • New Black Crowes keyboardist sends “positive vibes” to former keyboardist Eddie Harsch after spilling the beans on MySpace that Harsch’s departure has to do with “health issues” not the previously reported “personal issues.” Nice move.
  • Are Oasis’ “Live Forever” and “Wonderwall” the two greatest songs of all time? They are according to Q.
  • Please, God, no. Posh spice will star in a Project Runway/Top Model hybrid, where she will showcase her apparently very impressive sense of humor. Bleh.
  • XTC frontman Andy Partridge announces the British rockers “threw away better material than most bands made a career out of.” Now we’ll get nine discs of it via a new box set. Get psyched.
  • Goth-light kids raised on Nightmare Before Christmas get to play on the new soundtrack, meant to accompany the October re-release of the film.

bruno | 8/29/2006, 1:24 pm EST

oasis don t joke with me the best band who wrote the best songs is the one and only gods of rock pearl jam

Chuck | 8/29/2006, 1:28 pm EST

Not the greatest of all time, but good stuff. Oh well.

Phil | 8/29/2006, 1:29 pm EST

That is a pretty dumb list all together. all the obvious songs from all the obvious artists. a list of the day should be “Worst Lists of All Time.”

Beetlebum | 8/29/2006, 1:39 pm EST

Oasis Owns

Lobsters | 8/29/2006, 1:44 pm EST

Oasis were the best band in the world for quite a while there. And they were fuckin’ hilarious as well.

daveg | 8/29/2006, 1:45 pm EST

Oasis have written some pretty solid classics but to call them the best songs of all time is a bit extreme and based on…presumably nothing. Honestly, in terms of being able to cover a wide range of themes, sounds, moods and depth I’d give best songwriting credit to REM.

kk | 8/29/2006, 2:00 pm EST

bullshit oasis no no no gg allin wrote the best song”i want to fuck myself”

Al Gore | 8/29/2006, 2:02 pm EST

Al Gore says Oasis did indeed write two of the finest songs of all time.

Leonel Lara | 8/29/2006, 2:22 pm EST

rock on duds

damon albarn | 8/29/2006, 2:36 pm EST

They sure kicked our arse, didn’t they.

yay123 | 8/29/2006, 2:49 pm EST

I think “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger” are some of the greatest songs of all time but not that high of ranking i would understand them being played in the 500-200 range but defianltly not that high ranked

Sherry | 8/29/2006, 2:56 pm EST

What? This is crazy!!

ben fong torres | 8/29/2006, 2:57 pm EST

the beatles wrote the greatest songs…oasis sucks.

i hate british magazines | 8/29/2006, 3:30 pm EST

unreal…simply unreal…Q is a joke…oasis sucks…AND they left off Bruce…Robbie Williams?!?

South Jersey Bill | 8/29/2006, 3:52 pm EST

I love “Live Forever”, really do. But the greatest song of all-time? Jesus christ, I knew Brits loved Oasis but having the 2 greatest songs of all time is extreme. I guess “Sympathy for the Devil”, “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “My Girl” aren’t worth dick. Yea I heard some guy named Bruce was left off too. That magazine deserves zero credibility.

Mark Christopher Miotto | 8/29/2006, 4:12 pm EST

In 10 years we will be speaking of Oasis much like we are talking about the Beatles and The Stone. The funny thing is in 10 years they will still be performing and writing some of their most impressive material.

Mark Christopher Miotto | 8/29/2006, 4:14 pm EST

either that or Saturday Night by Whigfield….

Evan | 8/29/2006, 4:19 pm EST

Oasis wrote the greatest rip-offs of the greatest Beatles tunes.

I think that’s a little more accurate.

Lobsters | 8/29/2006, 4:20 pm EST

“Some guy named Bruce”? You do realise that Q is an English magazine, don’t you? People in England have never been brainwashed into sucking up all that hokey “Jes’ Folks” Springsteen, Tom Petty, John Cougar dog shit. Good for them!

G-Spot | 8/29/2006, 4:23 pm EST

Oasis does not have the best songs of all time and neither do the Beatles. The Beatles are the most overrated artists in history. Blah. Gimme Bowie, Zeppelin, Cash, Bob Dylan and forget that garbage.

Anonymous | 8/29/2006, 4:29 pm EST

greatest songs of all time? no. some of the best? yeah, sure. so what if at the end of the day oasis is still just a bunch of drunken beatles wannabes :p

Matt | 8/29/2006, 4:32 pm EST

Those 2 are probably the best Oasis songs. Best songs ever though? Hardly, and I love Oasis. Also, why is Robbie Wiliams ahead of Like a Rolling Stone?

amanda | 8/29/2006, 5:16 pm EST

ummmm, are they like hall and oates?

Evan | 8/29/2006, 5:31 pm EST

“Oasis does not have the best songs of all time and neither do the Beatles. The Beatles are the most overrated artists in history. Blah. Gimme Bowie, Zeppelin, Cash, Bob Dylan and forget that garbage.”

Wow. I don’t even know how to approach that. I love Bowie, but..he’s just a musical chameleon. He changes with the seasons. As for Zeppelin..NO THANKS. Cash and Dylan are great, though. But the Beatles…overrated? That’s just ridiculous. You obviously haven’t heard enough of their amazing catalogue.

wiskle | 8/29/2006, 6:43 pm EST

am i the only one that hasnt lost his mind. this list is a fucking joke. robbie williams, the verve, joy division? give me a break, dylan and maybe the beatles should be the only ones to stay on the list. everything else must go. radiohead gets a pass. q sucks ass!

Rob | 8/29/2006, 7:17 pm EST

Fuck the guy who dooesnt like the beatles

Leslie | 8/29/2006, 9:32 pm EST

I love Oasis very very much, but a Beatles song should be number 1…Live Forever should be up there, but maybe not number 1. It’s just an odd list all together. What’s Robbie Williams doing on there? Come on people! Greatest songs of all time! He’s talented as are all of those artists but some of the songs just don’t belong.

And to those who are saying that the Beatles are over rated, you can not like their music, I mean I understand it may not be your taste. But to casually dismiss them as over rated and stuff…is totally uncalled for. Do you know anything about music? They were a groundbreaking band who had (and still has) an immense influence. You should atleast appreciate them for that. Besides that, they made great music! Simple as that! From a technical standpoint it really is some of the best music ever recorded. And so even if you don’t really like their music, you should atleast be able to understand why they are so highly rated (not OVER-rated) and appreciate them for what they are.

dani | 8/30/2006, 2:41 am EST

i am an oasis fan!!! but i dont think noel wrote the best song of all times… four words: HEROES BY DAVID BOWIE!

Gofmungi | 8/30/2006, 4:12 am EST

Some things that can be found in a desert are an Oasis and a Mirage. Oasis writes good music, but they’re a mirage when it comes to writing the greatest songs of all time. The Lets face it, the Beatles and Led Zep wrote the greatest songs of all time.

jungleland | 8/30/2006, 9:21 am EST

I’m a huge Oasis fan and might even put one of their songs in my top 50…but #1? I think they are so much bigger in England. So many of the 20-30 year olds there grew up on them as THE big band. Now Robbie Williams? I can’t name a single song of his!

I can’t wait for the XTC Box set! The Live Box set they did is amazing. Now XTC Should have songs in the top 50 best for sure.

Beetlebum | 8/31/2006, 4:05 pm EST

people need to stop giving so much credit to the beatles. the kinks were a far superior band as were the stones and love at their peak.

jon | 7/12/2008, 9:45 am EST

Oasis have written about5 of the top 20 tunes of all time – but not necessarily these 2
