Bruce Springsteen has posted a message on his website to respond to the New York Post’s allegations that he’s having an affair. Last Thursday the tabloid reported that Bruce and wife Patti Scialfa are on the verge of getting divorced and that Bruce has been seeing a red headed 9/11 widow he met at the “Tribute To Heroes” Benefit in 2001.
“I hesitate to use this website for anything personal believing it should remain a place where fans of my music can come free of the distractions that occasionally arise with the rest of my job,” Bruce wrote. “However, due to the unfounded and ugly rumors that have appeared in the papers over the last few days, I felt they shouldn’t pass without comment. Patti and I have been together for 18 years – the best 18 years of my life. We have built a beautiful family we love and want to protect and our commitment to one another remains as strong as the day we were married.”
Two things we feel compelled to point out: 1) The Post alleges the Bruce took this other woman to the Stone Pony, which seems like an odd place for the Boss to be if he wanted to go unnoticed, and 2) The Post piece says Bruce and this unnamed woman were seen at the “Beacon Hill Beach Club.” No such place exists – although there is a Beacon Hill Club in Summit, NJ, which has no beach, and also seems like a very public place to bring a date.

I don’t know… Maybe Patti did get around before Bruce. Maybe he got around, too. People can change if they find their soul mate. I honestly believe this. I love Bruce and all the good his music stands for, all the good he stands for. He has a right to be opinionated, as we all do. Just because you don’t agree with his veiws doesn’t mean you should be ugly towards him or his family. That is pathetic and deplorable. I feel he is a positive force in the world. He has a lot of passion and he wants only the best for his fellow man. I think it is sad how the world is going lately and has been for a long time. If someone is out there speaking against atrocities that is a very good thing. He is in a good position to do so. Whether, he was famous for his craft or not, I’d be behind him all the way.

I can barely get out of my house with all of this interesting stuff…now they have Tupac on msnbc and I have to leave in one minute or so. That’s so the doctor can keep me waiting for 15 minutes with nothing but a seashell to listen to.At least he has a seashell. I’m not a mister, but Mr. Bean is a trip.I am the original bean.oh wow…”the ghetto is all good for nobody” Is emo emotion?
John Cocktoasten | 9/7/2006, 2:25 pm EST
Mr. Bean,
Well, for instance, let’s take Brandon’s band:
Described as emotional and energetic - the band’s sound is timeless. They have songs that range from the “rock ballad” to mid-tempo “pop” songs to the in-your-face heavy songs - yet are undeniably the Killers. The mixture allows people to identify with the band on many different levels - much like a typical day in anyone’s life.
Emo is just always there for you, ya know?
John Cocktoasten | 9/7/2006, 2:19 pm EST
Emokid, I like the cut of your jib. Or is it jiz?
Oh well, I could use me some emo, cuzz like the Bosss once said:

Brandon is my grandsons name, so I’m going to listen to your song I hope it’s on Rhapsody. Is smoking a pole a cigar or pot? Bruce doesn’t do drugs, he’s just carried away by romance.

Now that 9 11 is coming up, I suppose the people of the East coast will be kind to each other again. I myself am in the yellow rose of ? Don’t mess with my Lexus.’Really I have an old Pathfinder, Bruce, where’s my 57 chevy? I guess I will have to buy my own car, even though I have red hair and was born in New Jersey. Mighty Kwan Yin, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz? Please be nice to one another, we are all in this most beautiful life together…bound for eternity.

bangagong | 9/6/2006, 11:04 am EST
Parking Lot Patti–that’s a good one; the E Street boys called her all kinds of things and had to shut up when she married the Boss. Besides slutty, they called her Bratty Patti. And, she wasn’t even important..she acted real big like she was a star…just a two bit player like the rest of the whores sleeping their way to the top. You think she’s gonna let anyone topple her now? She gives a bad rap to the name Jersey Girl.
whatever | 9/6/2006, 2:49 am EST
I don’t give a damn about his married life!!!!!! But he needs to shut the hell up. He’s in a public arena and he chooses to use this arena to voice political babble and whatever else tickles his fancy. The same media ,and fans for that matter, that praises his insignificant crap are going to rake him across the coals. It’s a shame that people in the limelight don’t have any privacy but that’s the way it has been since the beginning of time. It’s not going to change for good ole Bruce.

Marriage is an interesting institution, I cannot figure it out, so I have chosen to not marry. How can one know that they will never break the bond…we cannot know the future. It seems like putting yourself in a cage.As close as i can get with a translation…Rilke said “It seems there are a thousand bars, beyond the bars No World”Other people see marriage differently, something one does to have children.I have children.Their father is my best friend and knows me better than anyone else in the world. He’s a wizard, he’s a true star.As for the comments about Patti, let the circle be unbroken.

So Brucey want’s “where fans of my music can come free of the distractions that occasionally arise with the rest of my job,” Sure Bruce! How about shutting up with your political dribble for a change. Why do you and all the other celebrities think that you have the inside track on all that is good and wholesome and right about the world? I couldn’t care less what the hell you think of the political landscape. Us “regular” citizens are capable of thinking for ourselves and coming to the colusion(s) we think are correct. I couldn’t care less about what your political views are. On the other hand maybe the “political distraction” is a good idea. It keeps the focus off that crap you call music. Shut the hell up and just play your music for the fans. At least the Born in the USA disk is good. That’s one!

Hate is powerful and destructive, it starts wars. Get rid of your hate and pray. While Bin Laden was building up his terrorist camps to kill 3000 people on 9/11 Clinton was was being impeached for lying. I guess he had other worries then homeland security.
Bush is cleaning up the mess that Clinton created.. Did Bush cause Hussein to kill 2 million people? Do you realize the leader of Iraq was torturing and slaughtering people because of their beliefs? He was a Hitler in Iraq.. If Bush did nothing the liberals would be crying that no one is helping them.
There is a lot of evil in our world both here and oversees we should never back down to the evils of this world! Go Bush

Those who tell Springsteen to shut up about politics and sing are plainly stupid, most likely of the republican kind.
Music is the way by which an artist expresses his or her views and that is what Springsteen is doing with his music. Those who want to see artists shut up about politics and sing bubble gums songs should go to Jessica Simpson concerts and should shut up about Bruce. These people are not worthy of Bruce.
I hate Bush and everything he has done to this country, his abuse of our civil rights, his using fear to control the people, his criminal acts toward Iraq, and toward all of those who have lost their lives to satisfy that crazy man’s ambition and drug laden vision of what the world should be like i.e. American domination which nobody wants. Bush has managed to make us into the most hated country in history.

We all think Bruce is one of the best people on the planet …Bruce’s voice is a necessary voice in this world and we hope he will continue to share his thoughts, words, views, energy, heart and voice with the world for a long time to come…you’re an amazing human being Bruce with a special soul and you share it so beautifully with everyone on the planet. Thank you a million times over.

It sounds like the Republican Smear Machine is in full gear.
Springsteen has given his time and talent tirelessly for his political beliefs and he is a very talented guy.
I’m sick of people snooping into the personal lives of celebreties.
Check out all the skeletons in your own closets and stop spreading rumors-it’s not my business and doubt if the New York Post published it, it has any relevance considering the source-Rupert Murdoch-a big Republican who is a lap dog for Bush and does not like the influence Bruce has among American youth……
The Post is a Republican Rag-Murdoch got his start publishing rags w/porno and inaccurate gossip…..
Anyone dumb enough to subscribe to it is stupid enough to believe the phony hype……

So an artist should use his platform to shower us from their great height with useless shallow drivel. We shoul pay to hear that! We do that everyday when we pay taxes and turn on Fox News.
The whole point is for art to force us to move outside the box, to feel a connectness and inspiration beyond our own mundane existence, and to identify with the idea that someone out there understands us and cares. Music is a creative expression, if the times are tough and times are sad, and if we feel a disatisfaction with the way the political arena is moving around us, shouldn’t we want our musicians to express this so we know someone can feel our pain, cuz it sure as hell ain’t being felt in Washington!
piper | 8/30/2006, 12:01 pm EST
Right, so according to many of those who post here, a musician should use his platform for shallow meaningless dribble. Isn’t art supposed to inspire us to think outside the box. Don’t we listen to music for connectness and inspiration. God forbid an artist use his medium and platform to actually effect a reaction from the masses. Right or wrong the craft is created for the sole purpose of an effect! Get it?

he’s really not just an “entertainer”, but more of a spokesman and a troubadour, which gives him the right to express what he feels. His music is about expressing things, not merely entertain.

A) Entertainers have as much a right to their political opinions as goofballs on a blog or website.
B)Growing up with an abusive, belittling father in the lowest of middle class situations in an economically depressed part of Jersey does not disappear because you now live in a mansion on the hill. Of course things are now easier, but we all know our childhood never disappears.
C) The war (on America’s side)is about money, that is all. Not politics, beliefs, patriotism or any thing else. It is about cash.
D) Dick Cheney’s favorite song is First I Look at the Purse by J. Geils. He can’t stand the Motown version, too ethnic. Makes him think of the hired help.
E) Both men and women are equally capable of cheating. Men just get caught more often.

Hey Boss… Why not go entertain the troops and give yourself come good PR?
Nicole | 8/30/2006, 8:10 am EST
He is an entertainer does this give him any right to use the stage that his audience pays for to express his political views? I would never pay another dime to go to his concert, I am paying to hear him sing not preach. When entertainers start influencing people based upon their personal views it is wrong. There are a lot of unintelligent people who think he really knows something because he is an entertainer! It is fascinating how are society looks up to entertainers for leadership and guidance. God help our society!
He plays guitar and sings songs and lives in a town that is nothing like the real world. Why doesn’t he move into the real world? Who really cares if he is having an affair and most of all who really cares what this guy thinks… He entertains people for a living. When he moves his family into a town that has real social issues maybe he will wake up. I wonder if he would like his daughter performing sexual acts as an intern in the White House like his buddy.
We are more concerned with the “The Boss” and his family then our men being killed in Iraq. People get your priorities in order!

Famous or not, they are human beings and nobody is without flaws. We do not own or have a right to know their personal life. If one has enough time and energy to focus on the personal life of another human being, than I suggest that wasted energy be geared toward making a positive contribution to this somewhat less than perfect world. A small amount of anyone’s energy can feed, clothe, medicate or educate a needy person.
