Weezer: Not Breaking Up, Eating Guacamole

8/22/06, 1:13 pm EST

Weezer

Weezer posted a “we are still together” message on their Web site. “This PSA has been brought to you by the fine guacamole dip at Scott Shriner’s house, co-sponsored by a ring of fine cheese, and a dish of fresh figs from the back yard” the message reads. “Now please, take those ‘Weezer split?’ headlines and place them firmly into the ‘Don’t believe the hype’ bin. And have yourself a fine afternoon now.” This leaves us with just one question: Can you really grow figs in your backyard?

I’m 25 which means that the Blue Album changed my life and “Only in Dreams” will be played at my wedding. But has Rivers made a good album since Pinkerton?

Sarah | 8/22/2006, 3:05 pm EST

I love all of their albums, personally. I’d say their best songs are dispersed pretty evenly. People need to be a little more open to change, I think.

Arya | 8/22/2006, 3:09 pm EST

Also, where’s Patrick Wilson??? Maybe he took the picture.

phillypride | 8/22/2006, 3:28 pm EST

pat was on a family vacation which is why he wasn’t in the picture to answer somebodys question… and yes, rivers has made a good album after pinkerton its called MAKE BELIEVE

jakob | 8/22/2006, 3:43 pm EST

johnny: some good songs, yes, but good albums, no.

Richard | 8/22/2006, 5:51 pm EST

Time for the inevitable “Best of Weezer” hits album maybe?

Mike | 8/22/2006, 9:28 pm EST

Weezer’s blue album changed my life it was what made me want to leqrn guitar, and I ‘ve been playing since then. Pinkerton was by far their best effort along with the blue album ya each album since has had it hits and I have loved each album and now make believe has once again shown that weezer is here to stay. =W= rock forever

kd | 8/22/2006, 10:10 pm EST

hi | 8/22/2006, 10:51 pm EST

Pat wilson is on a family vacation it says on Weezer.com

Matt | 8/23/2006, 3:51 am EST

Weezer should have doen their fans a favor and broken up as penance for the Green Album.

Evil Eskimo | 8/23/2006, 7:14 am EST

weezer is ok. they don’t have much to do with their fans though. shame on weezer.

Brittany | 8/23/2006, 8:54 am EST

Weezer was great when they started but they have been definitely going down hill musically for the past few years. Still an okay band though.

jg | 8/23/2006, 1:07 pm EST

Yes you can…i grew up with a fig tree in my backyard.

andrewdardevil1980 | 8/23/2006, 1:20 pm EST

okay, the blue album was a modern classic, pinkerton?….ass, green?..okay, maladrot, excellent because it rocked, make believe is good because its easy to screw to.

Free Speech | 8/23/2006, 3:36 pm EST

Weezer broke up when Matt Sharp left the band (after Pinkerton, for those of you keeping score). They have not been the same since. They would have been one of the best bands ever if they’d just gone down in a plane crash after their sophomore effort.

Jason | 8/23/2006, 4:29 pm EST

who cares if you guys dont like the past three albums? If you dont like them, then hold onto blue and pink. Some of us actually really enjoy their later stuff. I dont know how you can say songs like perfect situation, pity and damage arent great songs.

then i guess rivers really would be just like buddy holly. but im glad they arent split up.

Amy | 8/23/2006, 9:06 pm EST

Although I agree that Weezer’s first two cd’s were much better than their latter efforts, Weezer still rocks and I’ll love them forever.

lefty79 | 8/25/2006, 7:05 am EST

Matt Sharps’ solo work is by far better than Weezer’s last 3 albums (and no, i’m not talking about The Rentals). Rivers has fooled you all into thinking that he can write “important music.’ (’cheese smells so good and a burnt piece of lamb?’ c’mon…)
seriously, wake up; it’s 2006. if you’re still waiting for Weezer to maker your day, you’ve got some serious priorities that need to be set straight.

Doss Cinotto | 8/25/2006, 10:24 am EST

its a shame that =w= fans seem to lack interest in 3/5 of their albums when they were all equally great. and if i may quote rivers which most of you obviously dont have a clue about “he played what he thought sounded good at the time and didnt care what people had to say about it” those who liked it awesome those who hated rivers dont care. read the interview and see yourself. and if your a true weezer fan youll read rivers edge and see how hard it is to be weezer. id like to see those unsupportive of green album on write a record even half as great. but props to all those loving ALL weezer

Kisa | 8/26/2006, 6:59 am EST

This belongs better on the web site, but nobody responds to my humor anymore, so here goes:

The Beatles were wrong. All you need are condiments (to stay together).

Please forget this and go about yer day!

Duperman | 8/26/2006, 8:26 pm EST

Pat Wilson really is on a family vacation. He’s even got a picture of his campsite on his web page. Of course he will be with Weezer when they convene to record. And, incidentally I am about the same age as the band members, but good music is good music. I’m the same age as the band members so if they are slowing down a bit, I understand. I did enjoy all the albums, though, up through Make Believe. I did not care for the last two songs from Make Believe, however, and I would have preferred “Prodigy Lover” as a closer rather than “Haunt you every day” which is far too depressing.
