There’s something really cute and old-timey about this San Fran foursome. Perhaps it’s the way they pack their little album with harmonica and banjo and lap steel and fiddles in such a non-oppressive, sweetly genuine way. Their twangy garage-folk debut, Lonely Road Revival, is the kind of thing you’d want to listen to driving down nice dusty dirt road that takes you through a cornfield, on your way to a kegger, in the summertime, eating an ice cream cone. Parts of the record remind us of early Modest Mouse (“Christmas Time Blues,” “In and Out of Love”) and others remind us of Dinosaur, Jr. (”In the Wake of It All”). But all of it makes us want to go swing in a hammock and smile a lot.
