  • Snoop Dog dishes to MTV all about his new Pharrell-produced single (”Vato”,) which Snoop says has a “back to the hood” kinda feel and features a cameo in the video by Edward James Olmos. Seriously.
  • Better than Zwan but not as good as the real thing: The Smashing Pumpkins are recording with Billy and Jimmy as the only original members?
  • Indie festival lineup day: check out the preliminary lineups for this year’s Pop Montreal festival plus New York City’s CMJ. [Brooklyn Vegan]
  • Former Mousketeers Justin and Christina both plan upcoming tours and performances at the VMA awards August 31st at Radio City Music Hall.
  • Damon Albarn’s 476th new band, the Good the Bad and the Queen, will break from working on their Danger Mouse produced album long enough to perform for the first time in London in late October.

Smashing Pumpkings WITHOUT james Iha is not the Smashing Pumpkins….no f’ng way…..D’arcy has been in and out before…but he needs Iha in that band….

Corgan needs to let it go.

Had Zwan or his solo record been even remotely successful – he wouldn’t be doing this.

No offense to Pumpkinheads – but does anyone really care about these guys anymore?

Im really excited about this new album

we’re just a few minutes away from the whole 90s revival thing, and soon bands will be TRYING to sound like the Pumpkins did 10 years ago.
I loved them back in the day, and would still listen if the material was good. I’d feel a lot better about it if Iha was on board, but still, Corgan CAN crank out the jams, so if he’s on his game, it could be good. Oh, and Zwan was pretty good too, don’t quite get all the Zwan haters out there.

The Playlist | 8/17/2006, 1:18 pm EST

Corgan does need to let it die. Sad… Get over it already, move on.

I agree with Ash. James Iha needs to be onboard. He’s great.

Dwayne W. | 8/17/2006, 1:48 pm EST

I agree with Richard!

Jofis | 8/17/2006, 6:27 pm EST

I will buy anything Billy Corgan puts out. Period.

let’s not forget that the last official pumpkins album tanked commercially. last tour was a mess. idea to dress up like leather clad superheroes was unforgiveably lame. remember the whole guitar hating phase? this band is OVER! ever since Adore.

Cdubya | 8/17/2006, 11:46 pm EST

I’m a huge fan of Billy’s stuff, but his solo album was for shit. I’ve been following the Pumpkins for years and am a huge fan of the Mellon Cholie set and the Aeroplane boxed set. I also love ADORE, but I have issues with that final cd and really can’t stand FUTURE EMBRACE. Ooof…. Gimme Medelia Of The Grey Skies and a bunch of singles as well as To Shiela! Rock on, Billy C., be it with James and D’arcy or with whomever. Iha’s shit is great, though… I ramble. Yet, I look forward to hearing the new material.

The Smashing Pumpkins in the end lost themselves in neo-prog ambitions. The alternative rock operas that Billy Corgan was trying to make with the Machina albums sunk under the weigh of a complex story told through songs that were not interesting or strong enough to tell it. Billy Corgan just wants to revive the Smashing Pumpkins brand because the name itself is guaranteed to sell a few hundred thousand copies. The Smashing Pumpkins peaked with Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Billy needs to let the Smashing Pumpkins legacy remain as it is.

Now listen to this.

During Zwan, Billy and Jimmy wanted to sound “As unPumpkins as possible”. Most of their better stuff, which can be found on hubs and such, was unfuckingbelievable. That music was the best he had written since MCIS and TAFH.

The solo project known as Billy Corgan was to be something different.

The direction in which Billy and Jimmy will be taking for the Smashing Pumpkins will be much like geek USA and Fuck You (An Ode To No One). They have been quoted by saying this before. I also hope those 50 songs they have written so far are going to know all you fuckers away.

The new album will be the king of 2007 records. I GUARANTEE that.

justin timberlake is hot

SAR | 5/27/2007, 3:13 pm EST

SP better kick ass and revive that sound they had for “Quiet” “Zero” “Geek USA” “Cherub Rock” “I Am One”

Did someone castrate BC to the bone after Sadness? SP are you listening up there? WTF happened? Ya don’t see Mike Tyson figure skating do ya?

They made good hard rock with trippy guitars. I will buy but with apprehension for sure.
