Pete Doherty Watch: Arrested Again!

8/17/06, 7:44 pm EST

THE LATEST: He made it almost 60 days but in a magnificently un-surprising development, Pete was arrested once again for possession, of three different illegal substances no less (cocaine, diamorphine, and cannabis) sometime last week. Though he was only brought in and formally charged (for this most recent arrest plus several previous ones) today.

for some dudes it just doesn’t click – Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Pete Doherty…..

Frank | 8/17/2006, 10:10 pm EST

Pete Doherty is not guilty, like all the times the cops have tried to get him. Great song writer.

Matt2.0 | 8/17/2006, 11:51 pm EST

ah that kooky Pete Doherty, I dont think he really wants to quit. I just hope he doesnt OD because I really dont want to have to put up with him as the next big rock martyr

m | 8/18/2006, 2:05 am EST

I must be out of the loop. I’ve never even heard a song of his. Is he the next Kurt Cobain or what.

cure gastroparesis | 8/18/2006, 9:37 am EST

im from england. magazines here think he’s a jukie loser. nowhere near as talented as cobain or layne staley. if u do some research on him ull find he plays on it too much 4 media attention, cobain and staley never did. wish doherty and paris hilton would just go away

ste | 8/18/2006, 9:40 am EST

Nirvana has to be the most overrated band ever.

Tobi | 8/18/2006, 9:55 am EST

Guys, I agreed, the drug abuse both have in common (cobain and doherty). But cobain just looked much better than lil Pete does. . Pete just looks like a junky making musik, cobain looked like a musican taking drugs.

johnnygunit | 8/18/2006, 10:32 am EST

My uncle uses heroin too, but I don’t mention him with the likes of Cobain…Doherty is a junkie who needs help and a musician with potential. Cobain spoke for a generation and sparked a change in music. Doherty is a junkie who needs help…

Dav | 8/18/2006, 10:35 am EST

The magazine’s in England are right. He is a loser. Dirty Pretty Things. I just wish he would hurry up and die already. I’m so sick of hearing about this lout…

tanoi | 8/18/2006, 10:40 am EST

dohert a great songwriter whats i hope he doesnt blow his head off with a shotgun anytime soon and by the way british tabloids are absolute dribble

Andrew | 8/18/2006, 10:46 am EST

It’s be nice if RS got their facts right before publishing stories like this. Pete was in court for old charges and plead guilty today. He didn’t get arrested for new crimes. The guy has it hard enough with people making it harder.

Bill | 8/18/2006, 11:02 am EST

Read the article, he was arrested Aug. 7th too.

TC | 8/18/2006, 11:22 am EST

He should just stay a junkie, it’s more glamorous.

He and Kate can have drug addicted babies.

Scotty Checkbooks | 8/18/2006, 11:35 am EST

Hey, it’s like I say, some people are just PROGRAMMED TO PARTY! See Wolves of Flatbush record for details…

Andrew | 8/18/2006, 11:58 am EST

How about you read another article that will tell you that it was related to his arrests on the 7th of August and in April. He didn’t get arrested “again” today, he got rung up on charges.

By the way, you’re a genius for telling me I’m wrong for saying that Rolling Stone is wrong based on information from the Rolling Stone article. That’s brilliant.

cobain staley doherty | 8/18/2006, 12:22 pm EST

blah !

jj | 8/18/2006, 12:27 pm EST

Stupid Bitch.Totally wrong info!!!!

Completely wrong, believe me I know.

economike | 8/18/2006, 12:36 pm EST

Somebody has to be the new Keith Richard.

Killa | 8/18/2006, 1:03 pm EST

The Babyshambles album is a masterpiece. The Libertines sucked.

Pete, Keep on keepin’ on.

eman | 8/18/2006, 1:27 pm EST

who’s pete doherty?

Mark, Newport, Wales | 8/18/2006, 1:37 pm EST

The Babyshambles album ‘Down In Albion’ is patchy at best. The track ‘Albion’ is a masterpiece though.

Jim | 8/18/2006, 2:27 pm EST

Why is the Rolling Stone making a joke out of his addiction? The guy is clearly ill and they think it is funny. F**K Rolling Stone magazine.

iburl | 8/18/2006, 2:31 pm EST

This won’t be as funny when he is dead, but Rolling Stone (ugh) will be sure to make a mint on their “memorial” issue. What a disgusting Puke Rag this magazine has become. Why not stick to what you do best, coverage of American Idol.

bilo | 8/18/2006, 2:45 pm EST

peter doherty is a good person, a talented musician and unfortunately a drug addict. i hope he gets well soon and i believe he wants to be clean, but its not something that can be done in a blink, it takes months and years of recovery. good luck pete

billy | 8/18/2006, 2:49 pm EST

rollingstone.com think they are buddyhead

Jay | 8/18/2006, 2:52 pm EST

I agree it is pretty low for Rollingstone to have this ticker on their sight. Drug addiction isn’t a joke.

libertineghostwriter | 8/18/2006, 2:57 pm EST

Pete is a legend, always has been always will….Dead or alive…Up the albion

Dora | 8/18/2006, 3:00 pm EST

He’s in rehab again now.

Alby | 8/18/2006, 3:20 pm EST

Give the guy a break… if you like him, just listen to his music and enjoy yourslef. If you dont like him, leave him be. Don’t know why it should be any of our business how he spends his free time. Oh, and RS, how about stepping back from the tabloid arena and including some actual stories on his music. Just, yknow, to maintain a little bit of respectablility.
ps. for anyone who doesn’t know his music, download ‘I Love You (But you’re green) or East of Eden. Very accessable.

ellie | 8/18/2006, 3:37 pm EST

I really liked Libertines, especially
Up The Brakcket, but i hate Babyshambles and what Pete D. has turned in to. The guy’s a total junkie…Btw, i think it’s really interesting how his Kate managed to beat her addiction in just a couple of weeks! Come on…

theworldsforgottenboy | 8/18/2006, 3:40 pm EST

I hope this half talent Chicken Mc Nugget OD’s soon … what a loser…. I hope they lock him up for 5 years…. a few hundred miles of reprobate cock up the arse might deter him from picking up the needle again.

diePetedie | 8/18/2006, 4:21 pm EST

he lives and cobain is dead…life is cruel. Pete you suck

Chris | 8/18/2006, 4:47 pm EST

Those of you who wish death on him should go fuck yourself, I really will never understand why tabloids choose to focus on his drug lifestyle as opposed to his great music. (especially the libertines) The drugs are typically apart of a rockstars life, I dont know why RS is choosing to pick on Mr. Doherty

Neil | 8/18/2006, 4:51 pm EST

Surprised that Rolling Stone would dedicate so much attention to Doherty’s latest antics? Please. Rolling Stone hasn’t been a music magazine in years. The magazine is a complete joke. It’s nothing more a teenage tabloid.

larry | 8/18/2006, 4:56 pm EST

cobain? yeah, he’s dead and he is never coming back no matter how many times you listen to nevermind and lace up or doc martins. its 2006, he died MORE THAN A DECADE AGO, move on already. rock stars are put on earth to do one thing – entertain the idiots. pete is complete entertainment, and i’m a complete idiot for loving him.

eris | 8/18/2006, 5:06 pm EST

Who the fuck is Pete Doherty?

macker | 8/18/2006, 5:19 pm EST

my mate smac has it own to a t, peter will be peter, fine and dandy, living rough and looking strange….remember ritchie edwards, and indeed ian curtis, like pete they needed help and were simply ignored…show him some encouragement

CDA | 8/18/2006, 6:25 pm EST

Pete needs to go. Just go. Anyone who condones his character, condones the use of debilitating drugs. Too many of our greatest have perished. Don’t anyone BS themselves. If one wants to quit using, they just quit using. Re hab is for public image and the woe is me factor.

C Allen | 8/18/2006, 6:32 pm EST

RS sucks so bad. I’ve never read so much BS ever, anywhere. I canceled my subscription almost 20 yrs ago. yeah I’m old, so what. I’m still rockin. RS isn’t. too much attention to drugged wimps and people so full of themselves. screw Pete. he needs to grow up.

Froggy | 8/18/2006, 6:38 pm EST

I just wanna be a happy idiot, and struggle for the legal tender. JB

Pete is an unhappy idiot, and soon, will have to struggle for every ounce of dignity and acceptance. Money will be long gone.

goodcleanfun | 8/18/2006, 8:31 pm EST

re-open the coliseum, tranquilize the lion, give the junkie twat a plastic spoon, and let ‘em both stagger around until things take their course. Tickmaster can make more money, then, too, and RS can sell even more copies covering this shit.

David | 8/18/2006, 8:42 pm EST

Libertines ruled the streets – I hope to hear more music like Up the Bracket again someday from him.

Tom | 8/18/2006, 8:47 pm EST

I Definitely enjoy Dirty Pretty Things and The Libertines more than Babyshambles. Carl Barat is way cooler.

Rich | 8/18/2006, 9:06 pm EST

Poor bastard. A lot of my friends and a lot of your friends aren’t around anymore because of drugs. Don’t you miss them?

joaquin | 8/18/2006, 10:48 pm EST

yeah this dude went from a “never was” to “a has been”

martin | 8/18/2006, 10:55 pm EST

i dont believe anyone still actually listens to nirvana or cares about cobain. if cobain was your voice you were a retard.

Aidan O'Connor | 8/18/2006, 11:45 pm EST

Kurt Co-who? Peter Doherty is the epitome of Rock and Roll.

Paul | 8/18/2006, 11:55 pm EST

He’s an ugly duck, and I have not heard his music but since when should rock “stars” (even small ones) not take drugs? What’s all this BS about feeling sorry for him? “He’s a sick man…” What nonsense.

Emma | 8/19/2006, 12:27 am EST

DRUG ADDICTION IS NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT!!! The Rolling Stone sucks, you say he was arrested when he wasn’t, and you actually believed that story about him selling his implant on ebay. Bull! I’m never buying another issue of this shit magazine again.

Errr... | 8/19/2006, 2:34 am EST

You all are taking this a bit too seriously… laugh and move on

Westwood | 8/19/2006, 3:50 am EST

Just one more guy taking drugs!! The only diference?? “Rolling Stone” is paying attention!! That´s All Folks!!

Person man | 8/19/2006, 6:19 am EST

this is really boring , and also proves rolling stone doesn’t put music as their first priority !

ellie | 8/19/2006, 6:38 am EST

I say give us more Carl Barat and Dirty Pretty Things and less Pete, please!!!!

frank | 8/19/2006, 6:43 am EST

rolling stone is rubbish
petedoherty is a great artist
most of these comments are laughable.

jon | 8/19/2006, 9:54 am EST

throw the jackass in jail, his music sucks anyway.

daedalus | 8/19/2006, 10:53 am EST

Someone needs to keep the teenagers off this site. If you don’t know the Libertines, you don’t know music. Go back to your Britney Spears or whatever white trash you’re listening to.

Doherty is another example of wasted brilliance. I cringe every time I see he is arrested again and expect one day to wake up and find out he’s dead.

Anyone who can fit Queen Boticia and Arcadia into a rock song has promise. Unfortunately, Pete’s never going to reach that promise.

Gaz | 8/19/2006, 8:02 pm EST

I am distraught about this news, head in hands, i even shed a tear. I love Pete Doherty and everything he has given to the music industry.

Pete i only hope that you realise the people you are hurting with this behaviour.

strummerville | 8/19/2006, 11:44 pm EST

I am a huge Libertines fan in the States and have followed most of this stuff with some amusement – another crazy rock star type stuff – but this is crazy. For the small amount of output this guy has had, he really deserves a lot less of our attention. F Pete Doherty, long live Carl Barat, long live Dirty Pretty Things.

Delbert | 8/20/2006, 1:06 am EST

I’m not a fan of the mans music, but this online feature is both tasteless and below the usual standards of quality I would expect Rolling Stone to follow.

lams | 8/20/2006, 1:37 am EST

He’s a musician with potential; RS shouldn’t take this as a joke. I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody found him dead one day.

Darren | 8/20/2006, 11:08 am EST

Pete Doherty is not in the same class as Keith, Kurt, Jimi, Morrison, etc. because those other talents that people refer to as fucked up artists actually managed to write, perform , record and tour WHILE addicted. Pete better pull his head out of his ass, get clean, and put out some ART. Otherwise….just another dead junkie who nobody will remember in 2 years. Sad but true.

K | 8/20/2006, 12:17 pm EST

leave poor pete alone. he needs support not criticism. this magazine is a joke, i’m not buying it anymore!

Mike B | 8/20/2006, 12:32 pm EST

He’s just another mindless twit and an average musician at best. Go ahead and let him make a spectacle of himself for publicity.

Dave Woodring | 8/20/2006, 1:38 pm EST

Pete obviously hasn’t hit his bottom yet….he’s really talented and he won’t reach his potential because he will soon end up six feet under….I hope that doesnt happen to him…. best of luck Pete!…………Woody

chris | 8/20/2006, 3:22 pm EST

doherty is more famous for being a junkie than he is for being a musician, and even though I couldnt give a shit about his music, RS is the real piece of shit here for making this guys problems a big fucking joke. if I were pete doherty I’d sue RS and buy more drugs.
P.S.-whats with you morons bringing cobain into this? he changed the world, and all we can do is sit here and bitch on a message board, so who really sucks eh?

Sparkler77 | 8/20/2006, 6:00 pm EST

I’ve never heard Babyshambles music but by most of the comments here, I DON’T WANT TO. As for Kurt Cobain
and Ian “I’m not a Nazi” Curtis before him, they’re dead and I’m glad.

scarface_2006 | 8/20/2006, 9:15 pm EST

This is showing Petes True Colors, he is a dumbass, and he will always be, he is just taking the path of Kurt Cobain

Mr. T | 8/20/2006, 9:49 pm EST

Just put Doherty in jail. Anyone else with his record would serve jail time. Revolutionary, my arse. Doherty is a spoiled rich kid. Jail might wake this wimp up.

britpopsux | 8/20/2006, 10:26 pm EST

i have friends who are junkies that dabble in music. if this guy was sober i might have heard of him. he sounds like another scenster loser who got a break just to fuck it all up. fuck him and his junkie fans.

Stefan | 8/20/2006, 10:29 pm EST

RS writers you should of noticed by now most of the bands and singers you all worship have all taken drugs and been totally out of control.

Also Pete Doherty and Curt Kobain are totally different people except for the fact they can play(ed) guitar and shot hard-core drugs.

I can’t believe i’ve actually wasted my time writing this!!!

scarface_2006 | 8/21/2006, 1:30 am EST

Fuck Pete Dohertey, hes such a dumbass, he fucks up every fuckin chance he gets, throw the bastards in Jail and be done with it

Pete | 8/21/2006, 1:30 am EST

Who is Kurt Cobain ?
Just kiddin. It is actually depressing to see the two names in the same sentence. Libertines were good, with emphasis on the word good. not great. Babyshambles have 2 or 3 average songs to date. The interest in P.D came when he started knobbing Kate Moss. Things spiralled out of control when she was pictured snorting cocaine. Like that was a surprise. I dont know what the answer is for Doherty. The day he decided to stick a needle in his arm was the day he lost repsect for life itself. Dead rock stars are not cool, especially if they never wrote a great song.

Pete | 8/21/2006, 1:34 am EST

I would love to know how much money it took to convince Snoop it was a good idea to ’star’ in commercials selling chewing gum.
what the ?…

mike t | 8/21/2006, 9:12 am EST

Pete Doherty is a waste of precious molecules and the publics time. He has dissappointed and let down his fans time and time again. He doesn’t deserve to be a musician, he should be standing on street corners selling the big issue. To put it simply: Pete is a loser and his music sucks!!!!!

Anonymous | 8/21/2006, 9:37 am EST

I would love to know how much money it took to convince Snoop it was a good idea to ’star’ in commercials selling chewing gum.
what the ?…

Probably not as much as anyone would think, but saying that I don’t think he can compromise his creative aspirations because the dude doesn’t have any, three words the pussycat dolls.

LOUIS | 8/21/2006, 12:52 pm EST

If you are reading Pete;

STOP NOW

make the press earn money by covering your music and not you misfortune

out of the matrix

dez | 8/24/2006, 1:28 am EST

Cobain helped to lift a generation out of a pop filled void. It is possible that Nirvana didn’t give us anything new, but they reminded us of a way out. The Libertines are a good band. I am not a sentimental person, but at times the Libertines’ music is heart breaking and beautiful. I don’t know if the RS article is accurate, but if it is, that is heart breaking as well.

We all seem capable of giving our charity to drug addicts unless they are stars. As if celebrity should deliver a person from addiction.

As I said, the Libertines are a good band, but even if they weren’t does that make any of the members any less human? Celebrity sites like these help to diminish our ability to sympathize with people.

G | 8/27/2006, 1:23 am EST

Pete Doherty is a genius…his music to those that have not heard is pure prodigy. Though he may have his problems, his talent is nothing less than genius. I hope he gets well…

***Ben*** | 8/31/2006, 8:26 pm EST

If Pete could just give up the drugs he has the potential to be a musical genius and an absolute legend. I know it’s easier said than done but he needs to do it sooner rather than later because it is affecting his music as well. He has the ability to be a hero to a generation of people, but at the moment he’s just a complete tosser. Most people would give an arm an a leg for his musical talent. The fact that he is so very intelligent makes it even worse, but the again you could be the most intelligent person in the world but it means fuck all without common sense an that sums him up pretty well. He needs to sort himself out and fast!!!

lala | 9/10/2006, 11:27 pm EST

Yuck- how repulsive. RS I mean. Maybe Rolling Stone could write just a little something about the music. The tragedy is obvious and this Doherty is crude but so what? Mostly I think as a music pub there should be a little BIT about the music????!!!!
For those who know about it and for those who don’t. I can look at trainwreck tabloid news in line at the supermarket. RS is no more about them music than the Enquirer- its all about celebrity . How NOT rock and roll.
