The closing of Life Aquatic and Lost in Translation, absolute perfection. And the closing music to Million Dollar Baby and Mystic River is sweet as well. Music in movies is everything.

Chuck | 8/21/2006, 8:57 pm EST

I agree with a lot on here…although these have been mentioned already, my picks are:
-Sigur Ros “Untitled 4″ (Vanilla Sky)It doesn’t end the credits, but it’s the last song in the film, while Tom Cruise is talking to Penelope the last time, then he jumps…good ending!
- Tears for Fears “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” (Real Genius)
- Pearl Jam “Man of the Hour” (Big Fish) What a song, that nearly made me cry too..
- Radiohead “Exit Music” (Romeo and Juliet)
-Every ending song on the Lord of the Rings trilogy…those are all just perect for those films.
- Rage Against the Machine “Wake Up” (Matrix) I left the theater head banging.
- Damien Rice “Blower’s Daughter” (Closer)
- Pixies “Where is My Mind?” (Fight Club)

Dennis O'Bell | 8/18/2006, 2:12 pm EST

Dudes, you got it on the opening-song list but forgot it in this list: ‘Trainspotting’! How could you forget Underworld’s “Born Slippy”?

On the comic tip, the musical number at the end of ‘The 40-Year Old Virgin’ set to Hair’s “Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” takes an already excellent comedy to a whole new level.

Carl | 8/18/2006, 2:12 pm EST

Ballad of Easy Rider.

Jess B. | 8/18/2006, 1:41 pm EST

Okay, maybe it’s not a serious song… but what about “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” from ‘Monty Python’s The Life of Brian?’ Easily one of the most brilliant endings to a comedy! I know people who have never even heard of the movie, yet they somehow know that song.

pete | 8/18/2006, 11:38 am EST

Dianogah - “Dreams Of Being King” from Reach The Rock

The Playlist | 8/18/2006, 11:09 am EST

If they did best opening song, i would elect David Byrne’s “Glass, Concrete & Stone,” (from “In Good Company) the song is the personification of the best kind of waking up in the morning.

The Playlist | 8/18/2006, 11:06 am EST

One of the best ever: “Waltzing Matilda” by Lou Reed at the end of “The Squid & The Whale.”

Also Virginia Astley’s gorgeous piano instrumental “A Summer Long Since Passed” at the end of “Me And You And Everyone We Know”

Shaun | 8/18/2006, 10:03 am EST

“Street Fighting Man” at the end of “V for Vendetta”

“Rockin’ in the Free World” at the end of almost any Michael Moore movie

“Don’t You Forget About Me” closing the Breakfast Club.

I think everyone literally touched on everything else. Now bring in the 17 year olds to say that Frou Frou song that closed “Garden State” was fucking brilliant or something.

rage against the machine- wake up, in the original matrix is great.

mr. roboto | 8/18/2006, 2:10 am EST

Dang Rolling Stone, you already took the best ones for yourself.

I was going to say “God Gave Rock ‘n Roll To You” by Kiss, but I can’t remember if they played it over the closing credits in Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey or not.
