Scarlett Johansson Works on Dylan-Related Project

8/14/06, 5:30 pm EST

What is it with old geniuses and Scarlett Johansson? First she jolts Woody Allen out of his dangerously long crappy-movie streak, then she turns Bill Murray into a sex symbol, and now she’s off with Bob Dylan shooting music videos? Several glossy weeklies (see, it pays off to read that stuff) reported that Johansson has been filming footage for a new Bob Dylan video in Coney Island recently. Specifics about the shoot remain hazy but she is working on a Dylan-related project. We’re waiting for the money shot of Bob and Scarlett sitting side-by-side on the Cyclone holding snow cones. Then she wins the prize for coolest human under 25 in the history of the world, or something.

Ah, Scarlett is so cool!

I am amazed that someone like Elizabeth “oh so hip” Goodman can say things like Woody Allen had a “dangerously crappy” movie streak. Yeah, maybe he made some bad movies…and he is around 70 years old too and a little tired…but he also made classics too. Ms. Goodman will NEVER do anything of consequence except write dangerously crappy prose.

What are you, Ghandi, Woody Allen’s publicist? I agree that Woody made some “dangerously crappy” movies in the past, and I’m glad he’s back on track with his most recent movies.

Oh and Scarlett? More nudity, please.

Thank you, Ms. Goodman, for your enthusiasm but I agree with the writer above that Woody Allen does not make “crappy films;” some of his recent work just isn’t as GREAT as his masterpieces and there are many that have been overlooked: Shadows and Fog, Manhattan Murdery Mystery, Deconstructing Harry, Sweet and Lowdown.
They said the same about Dylan who also never ever made crappy albums and I will argue song for song if anyone disagrees. Selah!

This article is just further proof of the brand of sloppy, lazy “writing” that passes for journalism these days. Goodman works off tired, established clichés such as Scarlett Johansson’s fondness for older guys or a supposed decline in the quality of Woody Allen’s films. The flaws in her article are there for all to see but amongst the most blatant are: the Chronology (hello, Match point was released years after Lost in Translation!!), secondly the assumption that Match Point is a good movie (did you actually watch it Liz?) and thirdly the admission that her sources are the glossies! hey Elizabeth, maybe instead of reading them, you should go back to writing for them I think you will find the readership a lot more amenable to your particular brand of “journalism”. Hack.

Woody Allen is a sad figure: even by in Manhattan he looks solemn, sorrowful about the fact he won’t be the things he wants – not factual, course – and now he just seems to have ended where he began, in wanting to be something he couldn’t. I think he may have some decent projects out before he goes, but if ythink he hadn’t made so many in the first place – a very select four – and the rest is fleshed out easily by the rest: kinda average crap. Hm.

Who is Elizabeth Goodman? Her name hasn’t reached us in the UK.

Dylan’s the coolest ever. Scarlett may be the coolest Under-25. And The Cyclone is the coolest ride of all time. Unfortuantlely, this scene did not make the final cut.

regardless, scarlett is the coolest thing to happen in women in a while. and it is lovely to experience an imagistic romance with her via bob’s love. thanks to both. and woody, we will always love you, mostly because you’ve asked us to, and we are blessed that scarlett loves you too, and that for you life and art are such an interesting mix.

What’s the big deal everyone? Scarlett is making her move in the music business? This new video thing is just another way of promoting her up-coming album. Just how big is her contribution to her Tom Waits covers album anyway? Minimal. Why should she deserve any more attention than other female singers who are actually good? Unfortunltely, a lot of people whould follow her anywhere just because she’s good looking. If you ask me, there’s nothing outstanding about her acting in the first place, so it just makes me laugh that she’s all over the place in music too. We all know she gets all this attention for her looks. Let’s support the people who really deserve it please. I’d personally tell her to leave the room for people who can actually sing and create. Support your local musicians and REAL people who don’t pretend to be someone else on camera for a living and who get their jobs because of their looks.
