Clay Aiken to Release Most Cynically Pop Album Ever?

8/14/06, 4:08 pm EST

Clay Aiken

Sure, it’s hard to write a hit song. But Clay Aiken’s third record, A Thousand Different Ways (out September 19th) takes the notion of playing to win to a new level. Aiken and his handlers have decided the way to Number One is through a delicate balance of … other people’s Number Ones. It’s not like we expected him to go all principled and write his own stuff now that he’s got the Strokes haircut (and even Julian doesn’t have that haircut anymore) but come on! Wasn’t being forced to slow dance awkwardly to Bryan Adams’ “Everything I Do (I Do It For You)” painful enough for a previous generation? Do we really need to pollute a whole new crop of kids with Clay’s rousing rendition of Mr. Mister’s “Broken Wings”? We think yes and no, respectively. Find the whole track listing after the jump.

The following is a complete track listing for the much-anticipated “A Thousand Different Ways,” including writer and producer credits:

Oh God, that’s awful.

ishmael | 8/14/2006, 5:56 pm EST

I really think that it’s just a matter of time before Clay Aiken proves just how great he is to all of the cynics like Rolling Stone. I mean, Dylan wrote “Blowin’ In the Wind,” but he can’t hardly sing it. Just wait until Clay finally writes his own “Masters of War” or “The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll.” It’s just a matter of time at this point, and that may finally silence all of the Clay-haters.

bwann | 8/14/2006, 6:12 pm EST

“ishmael” is a big idiot.

Linda | 8/14/2006, 6:37 pm EST

Clay’s has an awesome voice..if he doesn’t sing love songs…who will?

shez | 8/14/2006, 6:38 pm EST

I’ll give this a listen. Say what you will about Clay’s style, but without a doubt, the man can sing.

ellen | 8/14/2006, 6:40 pm EST

That isn’t even the title, Stupid! Wow, you really are brilliant…NOT!

Randi | 8/14/2006, 6:42 pm EST

What’s with the Clay hating. Clay is a consummate performer. His concerts are the most entertaining I have been to in a very long time. He may not fit your definition of cool but guess what? He surely has the voice of a star and he his talent won’t be denied. Get over yourself. Clay’s new CD is going to sell millions of copies.

Sam | 8/14/2006, 6:43 pm EST

I think Clay is much prettier than Celine.

Marilyn | 8/14/2006, 6:44 pm EST

Gosh, just once I wish I could read a critic’s review that made sense. This review is so poorly written it’s unbelievable.

Clay Aiken is a fantastic singer and the CD will be great. BTW, there are four originals on there, one written by Clay, which the poorly informed critic fails to mention.

Linc | 8/14/2006, 6:46 pm EST

Wondered what happened to Clay Aiken. I’m really looking forward to hearing his fantastic voice sing these great songs. Yes! The kids I teach love the 80’s music and it is hot and back in vogue as they say. I think your opinion on this one is way off the mark. Where you been? Don’t you know what’s happening these days?

Linda | 8/14/2006, 6:47 pm EST

Why review the cd before it drops?

Sam | 8/14/2006, 6:48 pm EST

Every artist and his brother is putting out a cover CD even the uber super ultra cool ones who write their own songs and have really really cool hair.

At least Aiken can sing and doesn’t neet to croak his way through old overdone crap.

AJ | 8/14/2006, 6:49 pm EST

Before condemning what I admit sounds like a bad idea of an album, maybe we should actually listen to it first! There have been a lot of hits that were covers and if given fresh new arrangements, with his voice, he could have one here.

Listen first with an open mind and then if you are so inclined you can write it off.

Oh, and I think I read the actual title is “A Thousand Differnt Ways”.

Rubyc | 8/14/2006, 6:52 pm EST

Why are you complaining? Clay is giving you something to complain about. :)

Cindy | 8/14/2006, 6:57 pm EST

How long ago did you write this review. Maybe 6 months ago, maybe a year ago. Holding on to it until you could just plug in the song titles.

Same on you. Do your job and don’t be so lazy. Listen to the CD first, than write the review

Kathy | 8/14/2006, 6:57 pm EST

Well, there are four new songs on there and one of them even has a co-writing credit for Clay. I’m looking forward to hearing this album!

Jordan | 8/14/2006, 6:59 pm EST

Looks like a great list of songs to me. I love the 80s. Bring it!

Cindi | 8/14/2006, 6:59 pm EST

Would be refreshing to have a reviewer write about an album he had actually heard. And, you can’t even get the title correct. Sort of invalidates everything else you said. Yawn.

pat | 8/14/2006, 7:00 pm EST

You failed to mention some original songs too. He also co-writting in one of the new song. Reserve your comment after you hear the cd. After all Whitney Houston biggest hit was a remake too. Anyway Aiken has a unique voice that will shine throuth unlike the crap we hear, that’s good enough for a lot of people.

peas | 8/14/2006, 7:01 pm EST

This premature evaluation brought to you by “too kewl for skewl & the gang.”

The man can SANG, yo!

Valentina | 8/14/2006, 7:09 pm EST

I don’t care what Clay sings as long as he sings. His voice is the most incredible thing I’ve ever heard. For real.

Daniel | 8/14/2006, 7:10 pm EST

Did you get an advance copy ?
I bet this CD is going to be very good. Clay has an awesome voice, also I noticed 4 new songs and he has a writing credit in one of them !

Bev | 8/14/2006, 7:12 pm EST

Sure it’s hard to write a good review, but Eliz. Goodman takes the notion of doing that to a new low.

It’s not like you’d expect these people to write something complimentary, especially when they haven’t even taken the time to listen to the CD, or, heaven forbid, that it should be mentioned that there ARE some original songs on the album, including one where Aiken had a hand in the writing.

No, instead we have to dismiss the new image and accept the fact that the “too cool for school” reviewers would prefer that this generation of kids should be polluted with the crap that’s “in” today!

Kate | 8/14/2006, 7:13 pm EST

I’d love to see a credible journalist. Let’s see, wrong title for Aiken’s cd, your title needs help from your junior high English teacher, and you haven’t heard the album ’cause you’re too kewl…… Amazing that someone is actually recording an album with covers. Gosh, that never happens, does it?

Cindy | 8/14/2006, 7:17 pm EST

Well – you got at least one thing right. It’s a much anticipated CD!

But it’s called A Thousand Different Ways.

And there are four new songs.

And Clay co-wrote one of them.

But yeah, at least you spelled anticipated right!!!!

Hercules | 8/14/2006, 7:20 pm EST

Can you say suck-o-rama?

I wonder if the title “A Thousand Different Ways” is some kind of innuendo for his reported gay sex liasons.

June | 8/14/2006, 7:22 pm EST

I think you are out of touch — 80’s seems to be “in”. And these songs are perfect for someone like Clay whose voice is awesome. Not only did you get the title of his CD wrong, you failed to mention there are 4 new songs, one of which Clay co-wrote. Wonder what it takes today to get someone to actually listen to a CD before the bad-mouthing & criticisms begin?

Cassie | 8/14/2006, 7:23 pm EST

I, for one, am highly anticipating Clay Aiken’s new CD. A beautiful voice singing great songs. Sounds like a winner to me.

Karen | 8/14/2006, 7:24 pm EST

Another bland cd from Aiken. I will be taking a pass on this one.

JUDE | 8/14/2006, 7:25 pm EST

As everyone knows, it’s not Aiken who makes the decisions. He’s bound to contract and the elder Clive is this days version of Slavemaster.

I would like to see CA be given the cred he deserves. After being dragged to my first concert of his last year, I learned just how incredible his voice is. So, I won’t say the new CD will be a wash until I hear it for myself.

Perhaps he should have a Parental Advisory sticker on the CD, grab his crotch and sing some inane-lyriced song and then he’d be A-OK like 60% of the other crap that’s out there.

Ken | 8/14/2006, 7:27 pm EST

I think ignoring the sure to be forgettable “original” songs, which will sound like every other schmaltzy pop song ever written, was probably doing Mr. Aiken a favor. I’ve heard parts of that Thousand Days song. Nails scraping on a chalk board would be more pleasant and display more emotional depth than that drivel. Get prepared Clay fans because this is only the beginning of the well deserved bad press this craptacular CD is going to be getting.

Tipit | 8/14/2006, 7:27 pm EST

First of all, I doubt that Clay had much to say about the track list. Clive Davis is a cover-lovin’ maniac these days. Secondly, if anyone can make these old songs sound better than new, Clay can. Ms. Goodman: Try being a thoughtful person, for a change, instead of just a ‘cool’ wannabee.

Lisa Hazelwood | 8/14/2006, 7:28 pm EST

I can think of one word for this CD:

Yawn!

Elaine | 8/14/2006, 7:30 pm EST

Clay had promise but between his lying to his fans about who he is and this mediocre cd, I am not so sure anymore.

Jane | 8/14/2006, 7:32 pm EST

JUDE said: Perhaps he should have a Parental Advisory sticker on the CD, grab his crotch and sing some inane-lyriced song and then he’d be A-OK like 60% of the other crap that’s out there.

He did simulate sex on stage at his concert by grinding his back up singer. That didn’t even work.

ChaCha | 8/14/2006, 7:32 pm EST

Clay, with his limited vocal abilities as a crooner-only singer can only sing ballads.

He can’t sing rock. But though he can’t sing rock, shouldn’t he at least have put in some more upbeat songs in this velveeta-ish CD?

This is a carbon copy of his bland and boring first CD.

It’s terrible that he didn’t even decide to stretch as an artist. But maybe that’s all he is – - – a KARAOKE SINGER.

Lisa Hazelwood | 8/14/2006, 7:34 pm EST

What? No songs about doing webcam stripteases for guys you’ve picked up on the internet?
I can’t believe that!

Ryan | 8/14/2006, 7:40 pm EST

So, Elizabeth, are you a critic and if so, have you actually heard this CD? Maybe you should to critique it until after you have given it a chance. No one here has heard this yet. I get really inflamed by people who comment on that which they have yet to experience. I have no clue if I will like this or not.

Sue | 8/14/2006, 7:41 pm EST

I see some of the fools who want to bash people have showed up here. Get a life you morons.

Pat | 8/14/2006, 7:42 pm EST

Ryan- people can dislike a collection of songs without hearing them. These are cover songs- not something new. They have been out there for years.

Shannon | 8/14/2006, 7:43 pm EST

Usually, reviews are written after someone has heard a CD. This one doesn’t even know the title and is basing a review on a press release! Clay has a great voice and he CAN rock. He is ver good at it. I’ve seen him and it surprised the heck outta’ me.
This type of predetermined review is just a confirmation of why I cancelled my subscription to this magazine. Not worth my time. It has lost its integrity.

Valentina | 8/14/2006, 7:46 pm EST

Elizabeth Goodman probably likes pro-tooled Paris Hilton and Ashlee Simpson.

David | 8/14/2006, 7:48 pm EST

Do you really think people choose what they listen to by what some critic says? Get over yourself and just be glad you have a job. Clay can sing any genre of music and sing it better than anyone out there today, and you can actually understand the words. He also puts a lot of emotion in his songs and makes you feel it.

jim | 8/14/2006, 7:52 pm EST

WAIT WAIT WAIT…we are talking about aiken and bob dylan in the same sentence

oh pleaseeeeeeeeee..bob dylan is one of the greatest song writers EVER

aiken wrote what??…maybe changed one word in one sentence..there are 3..count them 3 other writers on that one song!!!!!!

and oh yes let us blame the whole thing on Mr. Clive Davis

the only thing Clive Davis sees in aiken is someone that has always given him trouble trying to say what would and would not be..refuse to sing certain songs but then get on a stage and dry hump a backup singer?????

Clive Davis has no respect for aiken and most of the hearing public agrees

aiken over sings every song he touches and Simon Cowell told him that way back on ai when he butchered unchained melody

this cd will sell only to the claymates because they would buy anything and the great Clive Davis also know this

Joe | 8/14/2006, 7:54 pm EST

Go Ishmael!!!
I think you sound like you think for yourself.

A lot of people have sung covers. Yes, even the ones who think their just too cool.

Gosh, some journalist just don’t know how to write objectively, do they? I guess the new thing is to slam first and then listen. Except this one didn’t mention that Clay co-wrote one of the new songs. Oh wait she didn’t even mention there were new songs.

John | 8/14/2006, 7:55 pm EST

I am in the clubs every weekend. the 80’s are hot right now. I am willing to give this one a shot.

How can you review an album that is not even out yet?

Clay | 8/14/2006, 8:04 pm EST

Hi everyone! It’s me Clay. Please give my cd a chance. I know you’ll love it once you hear it. Please buy at least 8 copies of the cd. You can use the extras for so many things like coasters, shooting practice and the like. Just buy, buy, buy. I’m currently at number 8 on the Amazon best sellers list. Please buy more to get me back to number 1 so that the genral public will think my sales are legitimate and then maybe they too will buy some. You fans are the best. Current mood: Happy. Currenly listening to: Nothing.

Kelly Clarkson | 8/14/2006, 8:12 pm EST

Calling groucho, shannon, un4gitible, sandy, shully and the rest of the Kelly Clarkson Express gang! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to go to any web site that mentions Clay Aiken and bash the hell out of him and his upcoming CD! And don’t forget the instructions I posted earlier on how to hide his CDs around the stores, right after you break them in half!

This way, I will remain the one and only true Idol. Mwa-ha-haha!

Amy | 8/14/2006, 8:13 pm EST

It’s nice to see that the anti-Clay posters at least have a sense of humor…”Clay” posting, huh? :) My first reaction to hearing the track list was “OH NO!”…ballads and more ballads. I know Clay had to compromise with RCA on this one; his first wish was to have an up-tempo CD (see earlier interviews)…but he is bound by contract and Clive’s still the boss. Four originals…okay. I’ll wait and see about those. A Thousand Days? Never really warmed up to it in concert except when he sang the schiznits out of it in Clio. Covers? Nobody does them better, in my opinion. So although a couple of the titles hit a high “DING!” on the smaltz-o-meter, I imagine I’m gonna be blown away again by Aiken. Like I was on Bridge Over Troubled Water and I Can’t Make You Love Me and Solitaire…and even on some of the Motown classics in concert. He never disappoints. (Oh, and to the person who says Clay oversings everything…you obviously haven’t heard him sing everything. Still using the short American Idol song clips from three years ago?)

pat | 8/14/2006, 8:15 pm EST

I see the usual low life morons have come out to play and bash Clay Aiken. Get a life guys. Don,t like his music, go to your favorite artsit. Does it bother you that he is famous and that every albums that he released has been a commercial success? Nobody is talking about the original songs is his album. Believe me the masses are not into crap so bad nobody understand a words, Give me a guy with a killer voice anytime.

beth | 8/14/2006, 8:17 pm EST

Claymates- you best buy your usual 10 to 20 cd’s apiece.

Dave | 8/14/2006, 8:20 pm EST

Thanks for the news. Aiken’s got the best voice out there today. I love the 80’s. This is going to be good.

RoS | 8/14/2006, 8:26 pm EST

You know I too had a knee jerk reaction to seeing the track listing of the CD, but unlike you I am going to wait to actually HEAR the songs before I give it a review.

Just because a song is a cover does not mean it has the same arrangement. It appears that we are going through an old is new again cycle right now and the 80’s are hot right now. I would much rather hear a great voice on an old song then a pro-tooled one on a new one.

Clay | 8/14/2006, 8:27 pm EST

Y’all be nice to my friend Kelly now. I may need her support in the future. Don’t forget that it was you guys, my wonderful, wonderful, fans who taught everyone else about spamming polls, multiple buying to inflate cds, the hiding of other artist’s cds and all the rest that made me a supuhstah. I love you guys. Current mood: Happy. Currently listening to: Nothing.

Kate | 8/14/2006, 8:38 pm EST

The Clay haters (Groucho with your 50 pseudonyms and KCE’ers with too much time) must hate the fact that Clay and Kelly are such good friends and have nothing but good to say about each other. They spent some quality time with each other and Ruben when she toured in Raleigh. You are out of touch with her, undoubtedly.

Scott | 8/14/2006, 8:38 pm EST

Gotta give the guy a chance. Got dragged to his first concert by my girlfriend. Went to two others willingly. He’s a great entertainer, he has an incredible voice (unlike so many of the studio-enhanced garbage that seem to make it on the radio) and really interprets songs well, so I’ll wait to hear the songs on this CD before I decide.

Groucho | 8/14/2006, 8:40 pm EST

Hi, my name is grumpy Groucho and I have no life so I run around to all the different websites and talk trash about Clay Aiken. In truth, I love him. Don’t tell anyone. ‘K?

Joe | 8/14/2006, 8:40 pm EST

Who let the dogs out? Jealous much?

Jakers | 8/14/2006, 8:43 pm EST

WTF?

Rita | 8/14/2006, 8:45 pm EST

I can’t wait for this CD. Clay’s voice moves me. What you call covers used to be known as classics.

Jakers | 8/14/2006, 8:45 pm EST

Kelly Clarkson | 8/14/2006, 8:12 pm EST

So the competition never ends. Kelly’s fans need to piss off and chill.

Clay | 8/14/2006, 8:46 pm EST

Hey y’all….there’s also a bonus track on my new CD called “Quarter Turns, I wanna feel your walls”….for all my male fans (wink, wink).

Jess | 8/14/2006, 8:49 pm EST

Want to hear something ironic? Usher is doing Broadway now. Climb out of those pre-conceived opinions, open your minds and listen.

Michael | 8/14/2006, 8:53 pm EST

Clay is unique – his voice is amazing, and he is a master interpreter of a song. I’ve heard him live, singing everything from Motown to Sting to Heart to U2.

I can’t wait to hear his take on these classic love songs, and I can’t wait to relive all the memories that go along with them.

Oh, and Freaks, Be Gone!

Kelly Clarkson | 8/14/2006, 8:53 pm EST

Clay did me “A thousand Different Ways” when we toured together. I’m still in love with him but I’m too skanky. He used me and now he just wants to be friends. Waaaah!

Rick | 8/14/2006, 9:04 pm EST

Don’t worry, FakeClay, no one here has bashed Kelly. In fact, most Clay fans like Kelly. It’s that insane group of moronic, obssessive Clay-haters in her fandom who make all the rest of them look bad. You won’t see any miles-long threads on Clay’s hundreds of fansites dedicated to ridiculing Kelly or any other artist. However, you WILL find such threads dedicated to Clay-hatred on Kelly sites. With instructions on how to bash Clay throughout the internet world and at retail. The multiple buying began with the first Idol-based release of Kelly’s single A MOMENT LIKE THIS and her first album, THANKFUL. Those idiots taught Idol fans who followed well. So they have no room to talk when others do it. There are mega posts at the old KCE (now deleted) of fans bragging about how many copies of BREAKAWAY they all bought, yet they still couldn’t get Kelly to #1. She’s laughing all the way to the bank. With all her success, you’d think those maniac fans of hers would chill by now and let the other Idols and their fans enjoy their own successes, but NOOOOOOOOO….. I know for a fact that Kelly is ASHAMED of how some of her more demonical fans treat one of her best friends, Clay, because she said so to me at a M&G. She’s a sweet gal and even Clay’s fans don’t hold against her the kind of vulgar, childish evil thrown his way in her name, only a tiny portion of which you can find posted below.

I agree that anyone wishing to review Clay’s new album should do so with an open mind and only after they’ve listened to it a couple of times, as any journalist worth his salt does. The bias here is obvious.

Ann | 8/14/2006, 9:05 pm EST

Clay Aiken is my favorite male singer and male entertainer. Clay Aiken is the greatest and the best male musical artist ever!!! Clay Aiken Rules!!!

Jerome | 8/14/2006, 9:25 pm EST

Smarmy, icky, gross, cheesey, creepy. Those are the primary thoughts that come to mind about Clay Aiken, his Claymates, and his music.

I’ve never become a fangroups AntiFan before but the Claymates forced me to. They are, without a doubt, the most disgusting group of fans that ever existed. They’re old hags with bad taste, big mouths, and a little scratch. Don’t get slimed by a Claymate – RUN AWAY – FAR AWAY FROM SLIMY CLAY AIKEN!

omg! | 8/14/2006, 9:28 pm EST

RUN AWAY??? THose are the exact words Ketchupmoney/groucho left all over Promosquad last couple of days. jeez ricky, get some new material if you insist on bashing. You gave yourself away on that last “jerome post” you are a sad strange little man. ADMIT IT YOU WANT TO DO CLAY AND YOU CAN”T STAND IT!!!!!

Nancy | 8/14/2006, 9:29 pm EST

First of all How can you judge a
cd without hearing it first? If you have an answer please print it.

I have seen Clay Aiken in concert and let me tell you he is a great entertainer and singer. He can sing anything from rock to ballads. I can’t wait till his cd comes out I love the 80’s songs. If anyone dosen’t know it the 80’s are huge now from fashion to songs.

Compaired to what is out their today in the music world which isen’t much Clay Aiken music is like a breath of fresh air.

To the Clay bashers it is people like you that give this society a bad name. If you look around you this world is a mess I would think you would be more concerned about that then Clay’s cd.

Jane | 8/14/2006, 9:33 pm EST

I am curious does clay have any male fans that are not gay. His fan base consit of middle aged white chicks. He is so lame that my aunt who likes junk like Josh Gorban, Michael Bolotn and Chicago thinks he sucks.

Lisa89 | 8/14/2006, 9:37 pm EST

OMG is that really clay aiken he is soooo hot LOL

mike | 8/14/2006, 9:38 pm EST

measure of other people’s songs i guess. seems pretty craptacular to me, but not to worry. he’ll sell at least 1 million and he’ll get a 4th album easily! i still think he’s cheated his fans out of new music. although i wonder if his fans will consider this a mainstream album or yet another specialty album when it doesn’t match the sales of MOAM?

Kathy | 8/14/2006, 9:42 pm EST

How on earth can you do a review of a CD before you even hear it? I do not see you bashing other artists for doing covers, or in fact, why not write about the fact that lately many many so called “successful” records have several different artists singing the song and in fact, many artists today tour with multiple artists in order to bring in a crowd. Well let me just inform all you Clay haters, Clay doesn’t need any other artist on tour with him to sell tickets. This is a man who can sing WITHOUT music and carry a tune his voice is so magnificant. Why these Kelly fans are on such a hate binge against Clay when he and Kelly are FRIENDS is beyond me. Kelly is doing fine without her nasty fans spreading out over the internet to bash Clay Aiken. It is my understanding that Jon Bon Jovi was THRILLED to have Clay record his new song and in fact if you go on eBay, you will find that Jon Bon Jovi’s auction for charity has a Clay Aiken item donated for it. I prefer to trust my “ear” for music, and the talents of those who have worked on this CD to know when a man can SING and that Clay Aiken CAN DO, you are just upset that that is a fact you CAN’T deny! Get a life and let the man have his career without all the trash talk. And grow up!

Isabelle | 8/14/2006, 9:44 pm EST

Clay Aiken est un artiste FORMIDABLE.

Why do Americans put down their own. You should all embrace the great talents you have in the US instead of bashing and hating each others. The world would be a much better place. They are artists, not Gods.

look! | 8/14/2006, 9:45 pm EST

Hey everyone I changed the name om my post and I can post again. but you won’t know it’s me cause I’m trying to look like it’s lotsa different people just like ricky does. next time i’m gonna use a nother name…..watch.

Ricky is a loser. | 8/14/2006, 9:47 pm EST

Guess who? hehe it’s me with another name! see! everyone try it it’s fun isn’t it ricky.
i think clay is a fabulous entertainer and I woulld kill to see him live!

Josh | 8/14/2006, 9:53 pm EST

I like what I like whether any critic pans it or gushes over it. I have laughed my ass off at what some of the critics call music. Clay may not be a writer now, but the kid has drive, a fantastic voice and is a great entertainer. He puts up with a lot of BS, and you don’t hear him whining about it. He just does his thing and let’s it roll off. His voice is phenomenal. He will do these songs justice believe me.

Ricky is a loser. | 8/14/2006, 10:04 pm EST

Clay does write songs, at least the lady who pushed him to do Idol said so. that’s how she Knew clay could sing. He’d ask her opinion on songs he’d written.(oprah, june 10,2003 reference) I just think it’s a matter of time too. I don’t know exactly why he doesn’t feel confident in using any. maybe he feels thy aren’t that good. Or maybe he doesn’t feel like having the usual “critcs” bash his songs like they do his singing, his looks, his fill in the blank.

I like that ‘ishmael’ mentioned Bob. Did anyone know that Bob was signed before they even heard his voice? And if they had, would they have signed him? Probably not. But the man got out there and did his thing. When you’re called, you’re called. Clay’s got a lot going for him and I’ll be rooting with him along with the Claymates, young and young at heart. I know his fans are a lot more diverse than Clay haters make them out to be. I know because I’ve been to his concerts. You can see kids, teens, young adults, moms, and their moms. Not a ton of guys, but they’re there too and not because they are tagging along (well, some are ;) ) – but a lot are fans themselves. That’s pretty amazing. Not many artists out there can appeal to such a wide age range. He’s gotta be doing something right! Fight the good fight, Clay. You’re a good man.

Lee | 8/14/2006, 10:08 pm EST

Thanks for the heads up Elizabeth. I think I’ll pass on this cd. Doing an album of cover tunes is a very bad idea and potentially a career destroyer.

Sam | 8/14/2006, 10:08 pm EST

Does Clay have any non-gay male fans? someone asked. Of course he does, just like any other artist. I’m 30, straight, male & a music professor at a small east coast college. I have a lot of talented students, but if I had just one with the unique voice of a Clay Aiken, I would be over the moon. We’ve played some of his recordings in class & the live ones surpass the studio versions by far. I would say see him live first & then judge. His Jukebox Tour was phenomenal & if this CD is anywhere near the energy & emotion of that tour, it will be a huge hit. My students are all fans, young men & women, because they as performers realize artistry & they hear it in spades in Clay’s best work. He is the modern-day equivalent of a Sinatra or Bennett & for what it’s worth, it’s my opinion that the musical landscape in America is ready for a truly amazing entertainer of his caliber. Someone, another straight male fan, wrote a couple of years ago that Clay has the potential to become something of a cross between Beck & Bobby Darin & I totally agree. I fully expect the next album to be packed with a lot of great original music after he succeeds with this particular Favor To Clive Davis CD. I already happen to know several top songwriters who want to get a track on Clay’s next album. It’s not only money in the bank for them, but they can be assured that their songs will receive the classy treatment they deserve.

Clay | 8/14/2006, 10:14 pm EST

Joe | 8/14/2006, 10:27 pm EST

I wonder how you “haters” know what Clay fans are like. You supposedly do not go to the concerts. Clay has fans of all ages and more men are coming to his shows. They may be there with their girlfriend or wife, but they leave a fan.

Heads up Clay fans. Just post your opinion. You cannot reason with imbeciles.

Kelly Clarkson has lots of gay fans. She once said that they have money too.

Has anybody ever noticed you don’t see Clay fans going on sites and bashing Kelley or the others? Interesting, isn’t it that Clay fans are hated but we don’t spread hate. Go figure.

Ricky is still a loser. | 8/14/2006, 10:28 pm EST

shejean | 8/14/2006, 10:29 pm EST

What happened? I went to post something and they said I just posted and have to wait! I haven’t even posted yet. This is my first time!! YIKES!! Well, besides that; chacha you stated you think Clay can NOT sing other genres of music besides ballads???? I have heard Clay sing rock, love songs, Christian music, country, bluegrass and showtunes (in person and on cds) and he excels at them all. If you don’t believe me or other fans go to youtube.com and type in Clay’s name. There are plenty of videos to prove what I stated. Rod Stewart was never bashed for doing 3 cds of ALL covers. He even has a 4th due out soon. And Rod’s vocal capabilities are no where near where he was 20 years ago. Harry Connick, Jr. only recorded covers of 40’s songs when he started out. Michael Buble does covers, too! As for writing music and playing intruments (as others have bashed Clay here for not doing both)- Johnny Mathis never played an instrument while in concert and never wrote a song and I think he has done very, very well; thank you very much! Elvis only had his name put on ‘Love Me Tender’ because Col. Parker wanted to give him some credit for helping write the lyrics-if he even did. But he was never credited with writing any other lyrics and/or music. So all of you ATDW bashers-please wait until the cd is released before you make your moronic criticisms.

Who just posted that doing covers is a ‘career killer’?? Tell that to Rod Stewart. He sold over 20 million of his first 3 covers cds; and as I posted earlier-is preparing his 4th (of covered rock songs).

Ricky is still a loser. | 8/14/2006, 10:44 pm EST

Rick campbell is in love with clay but he can’t admit it. He’s one of those gay kelly fans.

Clay is the only Idol album i’ve ever purchased. No intrest in any others including Kelly “her fans think she’s GOD” clarkson. I just want Clay, And I want to see him live!!! He’s not toured outside of the US enough for my liking.

voxapocolypse | 8/14/2006, 10:53 pm EST

I could not believe my eyes & ears when I heard that, how many years after his pop debut album, Clayton Hubris Grissom was going to deliver a CD of covers??!! And, with all due respect to the original performers, this is not even a list of great songs. Mr. Grissom was quoted as saying (and I paraphrase)”you just can’t find good songwriters anymore”. Apparently, that chasm expands to encompass the past fifty years.

Jerry | 8/14/2006, 10:54 pm EST

Clay Aiken’s CD will have megasales…you’re right about that…the buying public will have their say…attention needing premature critics and the dull-witted Clay haters don’t matter in the long run…those that can, do, and those that can’t critique it…so what else is new?…Clay is the Best male singer around!

RS Supporter | 8/14/2006, 11:01 pm EST

I see you finally got the title of Clay’s upcoming CD correct . . . earlier you had A Thousand Different Views. Someone commenting on music & CD’s should at least get the title correct or we might think you don’t know what you’re talking about .. . . wait, we already do.

Suzie | 8/14/2006, 11:03 pm EST

You do know that Clive is still the boss at RCA, don’t you? You do know that he still makes the decisions, right?

I don’t think this cover CD is what Clay set out to do. The boss intervened. But I have no doubt that it will be wonderful. Clay’s voice is legendary, and he has a lot of class to manage to ignore the ridiculous and unfounded jabs that are thrown at him daily.

Open your ears and your mind. You might be pleasantly surprised.

my choice | 8/14/2006, 11:04 pm EST

It’s funny, all these critics and haters seem to think that clay’s fans are old. Ever see his myspace? the official one.( the one that has over 3000 new friends in 3 days) there are more teens/ tweens on ther from all over the world than older ones. i’ve seen new zealand, iceland, singapore, korea, brazil a few times. he’s never toured there. or anywhere outside the US really… yet he’s got fans all over.( i heard both his korean and his singapore fan clubs had 10,000 mebmers each)

The 80’s were before my generation, but what snippits I’ve heard of Aiken’s new CD on Promosquad I really liked. I’m sick and tired of hip hop and I’m bored with Timberlake’s Sexyback. Aiken’s Thousand Days moved me and I’m looking forward to his CD. The 80’s rule…hot, hot

Maddy | 8/14/2006, 11:24 pm EST

In light of the samples we’ve heard, I am really looking forward to hearing what Clay has done with those songs.

sexy back? that is a piece of crap! I’d take clay singing anything(covers, phonebook, chinese food menu…)rather than listen to that. Is that what the reviewer prefers? I’d like to know. Sorry that’s not what my kind of music is.

Kav | 8/14/2006, 11:29 pm EST

*sigh* Is it too much to ask that reviewer wait to listen to a CD before they trash it? At least save the personal vendettas until a moment they’ll have a fighting chance of appearing objective and reasoned. This is just lazy knee-jerk populist reporting trying to follow what might be perceived as ‘cool’ or ‘in’, and frankly I’d have expected better from Rolling Stone.

Nice one on labelling the album wrong at first, too, btw. Definitely inspires confidence you’ve done your homework on other pieces you’ve written …

jt | 8/15/2006, 12:13 am EST

Why are Clay Aiken fans trashing other artists just because Rolling Stone criticizes Clay for doing a stupid cover album. Whether you like Justin’s music or not, at least he is doing his own music, not ripping off other people like Clay. Rod Stewart is OLD. He did his own music when he was young. Clay’s fans are very freakish.

June | 8/15/2006, 12:38 am EST

Thank you for correcting Clay’s CD album title — another blog from you with an honest fair appraisal after actually listening to the CD would be welcomed. This man has a unique & beautiful voice, a caring & thoughtful heart, and will be here singing long after the bashers are gone.

You live a double standard, my dear.

We’ll see how well Clay does with this CD. It was not his choice, but he’s not one to turn his back and walk away.

Not much into some 80’s songs, but real interested in the new ones, including the one written by Bon Jovi.

Give me a break on making a call before the voice is even heard.

My wife and I watch American Idol. My wife voted for Clay Aiken when he was on. We bought his first two albums.

We’re both disappointed to read he’s doing re-makes of other people’s songs but we both like his voice and think he is talented, so we’ll give this one a try. I have to agree Ms. Goodman, though, it does seem like a cynical choice.

I am confused reading these other people and I’m not sure what any of it has to do with his new album.

wahoo!!! | 8/15/2006, 4:11 am EST

i’m curious what meaning of cinically do you mean in your title. Your title makes absolutely NO SENSE

cyn·i·cal ( P ) Pronunciation Key (sn-kl)
adj.
Believing or showing the belief that people are motivated chiefly by base or selfish concerns; skeptical of the motives of others: a cynical dismissal of the politician’s promise to reform the campaign finance system.
Selfishly or callously calculating: showed a cynical disregard for the safety of his troops in his efforts to advance his reputation.
Negative or pessimistic, as from world-weariness: a cynical view of the average voter’s intelligence.
Expressing jaded or scornful skepticism or negativity: cynical laughter.

MusicIsMyLife | 8/15/2006, 4:50 am EST

Here’s what I’ve been able to glean from interviews, news reports, blogs, insider info, etc……. Last spring (2005) Clay’s EP/A&R person at RCA held a conference of 60 top songwriters in Nashville to commission possible tunes for the new album. They were given themes and issues which Clay wanted to sing about. There was a lot of excitement in the songwriting community about the project – everyone wanted to secure a spot on the CD and why not? Clay sells and sings the shiznit outta anything. Some of the songwriters wrote on the internet about all this. Some were collaborating with each other. RCA received a lot of positive feedback and many songs were submitted as a result. Clay recorded quite a few of them. The work on the album continued throughout his summer tour of 2005 at which he debuted 4 songs being considered for the CD. At least 2 of them were surefire hits, 1 an angst-filled ballad and the other a rousing uptempo slamdunk pop hit that had Top 40 smash written all over it. Both were huge hits with the audiences, especially the fast one. Unfortunately, neither of those songs are on this track list. The only song from those 4 previewed that is on this track list is surprisingly the one that garnered the least favorable fan reaction. Extremely odd to say the least. Anyway, Clay and his EP/A&R gal worked hard all year putting together an album of pure, melodic songs that would showcase Clay’s amazing instrument to peak performance perfection (wow, that sounds dirty!). By the fall, he was saying he was very proud of that work and that they had enough songs recorded to fill 4-5 albums, originals and covers. He didn’t know exactly what concept they were going to go with and which songs would make the cut, but whatever they did, he wanted an album that would reflect him – his vocals, attitude, musical influences, what was important to him. He said 3 years earlier that he had politely declined Clive Davis’ wish to have MEASURE OF A MAN be self-titled instead, mainly because he felt he had no real connection to his first CD – it was merely a rush job by RCA and 19-E to hand him pre-selected songs and get an album on the shelves in the AI2 aftermath. It was looking like this new album would finally be the one he would be proud to call simply CLAY AIKEN. In December, the finished CD was turned over to the suits at RCA. No one knows exactly what went down, but from all accounts it seems that Clive felt there wasn’t enough commercial potential in the album, that it was possibly too far off the mark of what Idol audiences might expect from Clay. In other words, Clay had gone for artistry over commerce.

Now Clive is not a legend for nothing. He knows what he has in Clay Aiken and he knows how to shape careers. So Clay was willing to listen to what Clive wanted. RCA already has a great franchise in cover albums going. Rod Stewart is making them a fortune putting out CDs of standards from the ’30s and 40s, 4 so far. Barry Manilow had a big hit with an album of ’50s hits and the latest is of songs from the ’60s. So Clive, who has always stuck Clay very wrongly in a box as this generation’s Manilow, thinks Hey! We’re at the brink of a big comeback of ’80s culture – Clay has some terrific covers already recorded from that era – we can get him some more, give them stellar production, pick out the tracks that highlight his unique voice the best – and Voila! We’ve got another couple of decades on the franchise covered by the hottest new voice around! Obviously, some concessions were made – Clay did get 4 new songs included, one by Jon Bon Jovi and one which he co-wrote, and he was probably promised that the next album will be more his baby if he just goes along with this moneymaker. So he happily? reluctantly?? who knows??? – goes back into the studio and records some more. And this is the result.

I do know that John Fields is a great producer who’s made Pink, Switchfoot and others sound fab, and he has produced the majority of Clay’s new tracks. And Clay has certainly come a long way in terms of performance, emotion and nuance as well as studio experience since his first album. 6 successful tours sure help in that regard. Working with producing legends like Phil Ramone and Walter Afanasieff on his Christmas CD do, too. I can’t wait to hear this CD!!! The industry grapevine (which includes the BW songwriter) says that BROKEN WINGS is gonna blow people away, so stick that in your Prejudice Pie, Ms. Goodman!

I’m one of the moderaters of the Clayboard, Clay Aikens most popular internet forum. My main job there is to oversee the multi-buying campaign the Claymates intend to follow for our Clays new album. If you go to “The Clayboard” and look up the “Amazon Buying Stragegies” thread you’ll find this post – my revised latest thoughts about how our Claymates can multi-purchase Clay a hit:
“With any luck, we’ll get some promo news from RCA this week – maybe a single, maybe a video, maybe the announcement of some big personal appearances. Those would all generate purchases at Amazon by the general public.

so… I think we should just sit tight and see what the promo is this week.

If we get some great promo and the general buying public kicks ATDW back up the Amazon chart, then we can save our additional Amazon purchases for later.

If we don’t get some great promo this week (by Thursday evening at the latest), then I think we need to place any orders that we’ve been holding off on….”

We intend to buy however many copies it takes to make this album a hit. We DON’T CARE what the critics say. WE DON’T CARE if the songs are old and cheesey. We DON’T CARE if the album is covers of old love songs. We DON’T CARE if you don’t like Clay – we’re going to force him down your throat and make you swallow. We DON’T care about anything but making America see Clay Aiken is better than Elvis Presley and The Beatles combined. He’s the GREATEST ENTERTAINER AND SINGER in the history of the world and we’ll buy 100 copies each if we have to to make sure America takes notice that our man Clay is a music GOD!

Join us and buy at least 8 copies of Clay Aikens new album “A Thousand Different Ways” September 19th.

Rollingstone Sucks- did you know that Clay’s cover issue was the biggest selling issue of Rollingstone in over 5 years?? And they then had the nerve to not include Clay in their cover of their 1000th issue last month (or was it the month before?). Very hypocritical publisher, to say the least. I wonder, when ATDW becomes one of the biggest sellers this year (and not because some of his fans are going to purchase multiple copies of it-even though most “Clay-forward” them and do NOT hoard them)if RS is going to trip over their feet to get to Clay for another cover story??? They DO want to sell millions of issues, don’t they????

shejean | 8/15/2006, 8:45 am EST

Hi sashntash (I am a member of the board, too-but under a different name) I thought the way they signed your name was NOT the way you sign it. Why are there such bozos in this world???? I couldn’t imagine anyone from the board writing that, especially a ‘mod’. Don’t worry-Clay will sell millions of ATDW on his own merit!!

Brian | 8/15/2006, 9:09 am EST

Clay Aiken fans make me laugh. While other artists such as Elton John and Elvis Presley did not write their hit songs, their approach and style are untouchable. Clay’s another heartless, soulless karaoke singer who’s raking in big dollars from people who have no clue how to judge music. If you like Clay, that’s fine. It’s your right to do so. But don’t come on these boards and try to justify yourselves and get upset for seeing Clay for what he really is: a singer light on talent, light on personality who will be forgotten in five years. Hell, he’s almost forgotten now.

um yeah | 8/15/2006, 9:12 am EST

Of course Clay on the cover of Rolling Stone sold a lot. They knew the AI hype would sell tons of magazines. It wasn’t about MUSIC, ART, TALENT or CREATIVITY or any ACHIEVEMENT. It was about ROLLING STONE being SELLOUTS!

Just another hate blog..... | 8/15/2006, 9:27 am EST

Brian…’me thinks’ you know nothing about music. Elton John did NOT write his ‘hit’songs????? Of course he did; mostly with Bernie Taupin. Elton wrote the music, Bernie the lyrics. Then Elton teamed up with Tim Rice for award winning movie and Broadway soundtracks. WOW- that has to be the biggest boo-boo ever written about Elton!!! You think Clay is a ‘heartless, soulless karaoke singer’???? You, then, have never seen Clay perform; either on tv or live. So how can you make that statement? (youtube.com will prove how wrong you are in that statement)

Will | 8/15/2006, 10:20 am EST

I’m a 42 year old straight man who loves Clay Aiken. Went to my first concert to please my wife, but I loved that concert so much I don’t plan to miss any future tours.

Clay sings like nobody’s business, so covers don’t bother me. I’ve heard he does write his own stuff and he co-wrote a song on this album. Give the man a chance, Rolling Stone. So what if he’s not like the dime-a-dozen rappers, divas, or garage bands. Listen and find out what he’s really like. If you’ve never seen the man live, your opinion is meaningless.

If this album does well, maybe he’ll have more freedom the next time around. Until then, I guess he’ll have to deal with the pre-judgements of jaded armchair critics.

Claytango | 8/15/2006, 11:31 am EST

People who put so much energy into hating others really hate themselves. You’ll notice that the things they attribute to the target of their hate are the very things they despise in themselves. Since they don’t want to have to acknowledge how much self-loathing they have, they have to transfer it to someone else to be able to find some way to cope with all that hate inside themselves. It must be a horrible way to live. It will be an even more horrible way to die.

Kudos to Sam,the music professor and musicismylife…your posts are a breath of fresh air in this hostile environment.

It matters not that Clay’s cd is primarily cover songs; his focus is on love songs and these are some of the most listened to love songs in our generation.

Listening to Clay sing these beautiful songs in his own remixed versions through a set of headphones will be mind-blowing. Who cares if they’re not blared throughout stores like Wal-Mart etc.; these are meant to be intimate songs shared in the company of the one you love.

In reading this cynical review and all the hate spewing from 90% of these posters, it’s more than obvious why our world is in trouble. Sadly, many of these ‘haters’ actually live in Raleigh, Clay’s home-town. Those written as ‘Clay’ are actually J.P. who, in his own mind, will be quarter-turning the rest of his life. He hasn’t got a clue what love is; nor have his followers.

It is truly a shame how one album of love songs can inspire so many to hate. What’s literally happening in Iraq is figuratively happening on this non-important site; sniping with tongues of hate, hiding behind false names, cowardly use of Clay’s good name to spread filth, bombing every site favorable to Clay with false reports and sexual filth, IED’s of words such as ‘quarter turns’etc. We should be sending all these posters to Iraq because they are so good at what they do. Terrorists would welcome them with open arms.

I am so glad that Clay is willing to go through all this ugliness to bring us his beautiful voice singing love songs. Even if Clive decided this is the way he wants Clay to go, we will support Clay totally.

Yep, we will go out and buy as many of Clay’s CD’s as we can afford; yep, we will all donate Clay’s CD, once again, to the heroic American soldiers serving in Iraq..must be, at least, 135,000 CD’s needed there..plus the forces in Afghanistan..another 100,000…We know, from past experience, that they all enjoyed Clay’s music. There’s only one ex-green beret I know of who hates his music..but, then….can’t win ‘em all, n’est-ce pas, eh?

Clay..here’s to double platinum first week out!!

I guess I will never understand why people who “claim” to hate Clay Aiken so much…are inexplicably FACINATED by him. Why else would they SCOUR THE INTERNET looking up pictures, message boards, articles, blogs……etc? Their every waking moment “seems” to be focused on tumbling Clay’s career.

The one solid reason for that is F.E.A.R. If they did not fear Clay was on his way to mega-stardom….they would not bother.

Haters and opportunists have always been around. They latch on to the POPULAR AND SUCCESSFUL.

Which is why they:

1. Make up stories about Clay Aiken – because no one would read their crap-a$$ stories about John Q. Public.

2. Write books about Clay and then sue him because their writing skills SUCK and they did not capitalize.

3. Sit around thinking up ways to thwart his sales – sorry, but – THAT ain’t NEV-AH gonna happen!! heh

4.Waste their lives …..trying to bring someone else down.
YOU……yes, YOU who spew hate…are your own worst enemies. You just don’t see it.
The more you hat-ahs talk about Clay…the MORE POPULAR HE BECOMES. Clay IS big news…….even YOU see that. Which is why you read every single thing there is to read about him. It is simple FEAR and ENVY.

No matter what hate, lies, innuendo you write about Clay….it will never, never, never change my love, respect and support for the man. In fact, it only bolsters it.

So, there!! I don’t give a flyin’ fig what you write. I am a Clay Aiken fan FOR LIFE. So, sue me.

MARK. MY. WORDS
……..this album is going to be HUGE!!!!!!! Because a LOT more people LOVE Clay Aiken more than you could ever imagine.

Do yourselves a favor……go back to you little two-bit jobs and try to make a life for yourselves…you really need to get on a happy train.

I am on one……and it is chuck full of Clay Aiken fans. Woo-Hoo!
So……..go find your own train….preferrably one headed in another direction. LOL!

CLAY AIKEN HAS GOT A NEW CD COMING OUT AND NOTHING COULD MAKE ME HAPPIER!!!!!!!!!

…and no one is going to bring me down. ; )

Cee | 8/15/2006, 4:32 pm EST

Ex-Rollingstone Subscriber… I’m gonna board your happytrain and savagely penetrate every oriface on your body with my throbbing, uncircumsized member.

Gillian | 8/15/2006, 5:44 pm EST

I would expect al Qaeda to be more generous than some of the comments I have read here. I worry about people who are filled with so much hate and why they would not be spending their time in a place they find more pleasing. People who like Clay will buy it and people who do not, will not – it’s just that simple. Why all the bashing? Is your own life lacking something?

marilynbardotfan | 8/15/2006, 5:46 pm EST

I Love Clay… F*ck all you haters!!! Bet your sweet a$$ This will go to #1

Rudy Pilfer | 8/15/2006, 6:09 pm EST

no ‘Macarena’?

Greg | 8/15/2006, 6:40 pm EST

I don’t understand all this moralizing about bashing clay. Whether or not you think he’s lame, this album is humorously trite and deserves some mockery.

Priscilla | 8/15/2006, 6:45 pm EST

I had no idea there was such a raging war invloving Clay Aiken and his “Claymates” until a few months ago when I went to Barnes and Noble looking for a difficult to find viny copy of an Eagles Greatest Hits album. I asked the clerk to help and she was ordering it online when she saw a woman she recognized and bolted out from behind the counter to where she was headed among the CD racks. I heard her tell the woman she was banned from the store and to LEAVE IMMEDIATELY! The middle aged woman hurried all the way out the front door without argument. I asked the clerk what the woman did and she told me she was a Clay Aiken “Claymate” and she and a group of her friends constantly came in and moved and hid the “Best Selling” artists CDs and put Clay Aikens CDs in their place in the “BEST SELLERS” bins. She said they had been doinig it for a couple of years but the staff didn’t figure it out until the store manager checked the video surveillance video tapes. He issued orders to warn them once and if they did it again to ban them from the store permanently. She said 3 were banned from the store and one was almost arrested when she refused to leave and the store called the police. She said the Claymates do it at ALL CD stores and probably cause tremendous harm to lots of popular artists at Wal Mart where the clerks don’t have an enclosed CD area and several full time clerks to assist the buyers and watch for shoplifters. I was AMAZED at what I heard! Since I found out about these crazy women all the hate filled posts I read on blogs like this one about the Claymates make perfect sense.

ishmael | 8/15/2006, 6:59 pm EST

I can’t believe there were actually so many people on this thread who took my comments at face value and couldn’t recognize what I assumed was obvious sarcasm. “Bwann,” “Jim,” “Joe,” and “Called” are all big idiots. LOL. Next time I’ll be more direct for all of the irony-impaired. I really thought “The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll” was a tip-off. My God, people are stupid.

My 2cents | 8/15/2006, 7:02 pm EST

that’s funny, I’ve had the opposite problem. Kelly fans have come in to the CD store and scratch the cd covers and move them to the hip hop section Then move kelly’s cd up front. I’ve never had a problem with clay’s fans in my store.

Rita | 8/15/2006, 7:18 pm EST

“My 2 Cents”
If you had a CD store you’d be one of only a handfull of individuals who won CD stores in America. Me thinks you’re another one of those creepy Claymates from the Claymate Hive trolling the internet making sure noone says anything bad about queer Clay Aiken.

Pay attention people. This is what middle aged old women Claymates do. I’m not sure why they do it. They must be lonely and loveless. Clay Aiken is obviously gay but they don;t want anyone to know it. How whacked is that? Liberace’s fans have all been reincarnated into Claymates.

My 2cents | 8/15/2006, 7:38 pm EST

I am not old, I worked in a cd store and the kelly fans have been a problem for us. Take it as you wish but the fact that you had to come here and call me a lier tells me a lot about you. I am not a CLAYMATE i’m a clay fan.I’ve seen the emails they’ve sent on how to scrath the clay cd, what to do etc. I was curious as to why someone would do that. I went to a couple of kelly’s sites it wasn’t hard to find.

Rita | 8/15/2006, 7:51 pm EST

“My 2 Cents”
What a load of crap. You’re a CLAYMATE! CLAYMATE! CLAYMATE! Kelly’s fans are mostly kids. Claymates are mostly over 40 and for some weird reason think they have to protect little Clay from the big bad “real” world by cheating for him. You’re pathetic. GO SIT IN THE CORNER!

My 2cents | 8/15/2006, 8:00 pm EST

while i’m not interested in arguing with you, I am 21 (not that you believe anything) I do not belong to any clay related internet groups, i’m a fan who happend upon this unfortunate blog. (again you don’t believe and i don’t care) All i know is what i found(i’d post it here but it’s rather long.) I’m not interested in arguing with you. I’m telling the truth. I don’t expect you to believe me.
why are you here? you aren’t a fan. that’s obvious. go ahead, call mr names, that’s what you do. sad really.

ishmael | 8/15/2006, 8:06 pm EST

And one more thing: to anyone saying that no one can criticize precious Clay’s new album without hearing it, I’ll use Dennis Miller’s analogy presented upon the news of East and West German reunification. He compared it to a Dean Martin / Jerry Lewis reunion: he wasn’t a fan of their previous work, and he wasn’t looking forward to their new stuff. Clay Aiken makes comfortable pap for people who don’t like to be musically or emotionally challenged. And nothing in his choice of song covers proves that he’s suddenly gained any new depth or soul. It’s only my opinion, but I believe that a truly great artist must be somewhat restless. A pearl can only grow in an oyster with a chafing grain of sand, and people like Clay Aiken clearly don’t have enough grit in their oysters to make pearls. Prove me wrong, Clay. Wait a few years and make a mid-life crisis album that deals with your angst as a closeted homosexual. Or as a disrespected “artist.” But I don’t see it happening.

alllison | 8/15/2006, 8:33 pm EST

i have something to say and i think clay you will want to hear this you clay are an amazing man and singer ilove you clay now to those people who are clay fans including my self you all need to give this new cd a chance and to those who dont like clay go jump in a lake and stay away from clay and his fans ok enough said

Trish | 8/15/2006, 8:45 pm EST

I will never understand why honest, decent, caring men of integrity get attacked. My husband is one of those great men who gets attacked by the morons in his work place simply because he is a man of faith and integrity. Clay is the same kind of man. The fact that he is in the limelight means that he is going to get attacked by the same moronic mentality. Get off the “gay” thing for starters. The man is not “gay”. He just happens to be a Christian man who believes in saving it until marriage. I know that is a strange thing in this day and age but believe it or not, there are some men out there still like that. I guess my husband and my Dad would have been “gay” as well before they were married. I do think that some of the claymates do go overboard with all their worship of Clay. But there are those of us who do enjoy listening to Clay sing and enjoy following his career because he does stand for something good in this dark world. God bless you Clay!

Leather Daddy | 8/15/2006, 9:35 pm EST

I for one can not wait for the dance remixes….that will get a lot of play at the Bath houses (but so doesn’t Clay)!!!

Hollywood | 8/15/2006, 9:50 pm EST

Without the internet connecting a lost and disinfranchised group of middle aged women turned fanatics that make up the Claymates Clay Aiken would be back in North Carolina shagging the same guys he hung with in the gay community before he slimed American Idol. The real story here isn’t Clay Aiken – it’s how pathetic the middle aged fools are who have noone else to give their affection and devotion to. Lonely, loveless, middle aged women, using Clay Aiken as a safe, unthreatening, place to unleash their unwanted love.

Joe | 8/15/2006, 10:13 pm EST

Pricilla,

Why don;t you tell us the store you are speaking of. Come on now. That way we can check it out. I have never heard such a pack of lies in my life.

If its true, you won’t mind us calling the store. That never happened and you know it.

sara | 8/15/2006, 10:18 pm EST

Wow, I wish you would use your bashing to help our country instead. Maybe help someone rebuild there home in New Orleans, or donate some money to some charities.
And as far as the 80’s, did you see what is coming this year in clothes styles, yep it is all 80’s I just saw a store ad the girl was wearing a headband, etc.
Music in Sam’s, BJ’s is almost all 80’s there was some 70’s and a little from the 60’s but I was surprised. It is coming back in style. My hubby even commented on this.
One fact is never, never listen to critics, music, movies, etc. They don’t know what they are talking about. They are just one person, and one person only who is trying so hard to make it look like they know what they are talking about but they know nothing especially if they haven’t even listen to or saw a movie, but the would have you believing otherwise.
For all those out there reading these article we should just stop or start a revolution to end this junk, maybe we could all start suing these people, or get the ones that write these fired.
By the way, I am not a big fan of Clay’s I know who he is but to write this trash, I feel sorry for you, you really need to get a real job.
You know maybe it was a good thing you did write this because now I think I am going to buy this cd and listen to it myself. You just convinced me to buy this. I’ll let you know after I listened to it if I like it. I may like it, or I may not.
AS for music and clothes styles you better check your facts first before you write, because it is clear you don’t know what you are talking about. Go ask the stores clerks what is coming in style and what is on order, they will tell you. Man, I don’t get out much but at least I know this.
Time to go visit some movie critic sites, so I can give them some crap.

Joe | 8/15/2006, 10:32 pm EST

Why are all you “haters”worried about Clays CD? You say he is not a good singer and will not sell and has only old fans. Why do you feel you have to be so insulting? You say he won’t be around. I think its obvious you are worried or you would not make up stories such as Pricilla did.

If you really believe what you are saying, then you don’t have anything to worry about. Go back to the asylum now and be good little crazy people.

Sienna | 8/15/2006, 10:38 pm EST

Is this for real? You kiddies hatin on one another is giving me the sh*ts & giggles. I heard the Claymates were crass and Clay was gay but I didn’t know all THIS funny stuff was REALLY goin on!

Keep it up! I’m lovin it!

Joe | 8/15/2006, 10:39 pm EST

I am going to contact the President of Barnes And Noble and let him know about this story. He can certainly check it out for me.
I don’t think he would want his clerks telling another customer their business.
I know they are big but it is easy to do. I will get to the bottom of this, Pricilla.

ann | 8/15/2006, 10:42 pm EST

Oh how i loved watching AI2 when Clay sang Solitaire, a song which Neil Sedaka wrote and sang and he did a great job, but when Clay sang it, he made it his own, in fact Neil Sedaka gave his song to Clay. Neil was so proud of the job Clay did and Neil also watched came and watched the finale and they said he had tears in his eyes because Clay sang so Well. Now, this is a person I respect and trust because he has been a singer and songwriter himself. I trust someone like Neil Or Barry Manilow to tell me who is good. He has chosen some very famous songs and if anyone can sing these it is Clay.
Yep, I am older been to hundreds of concerts, Beach Boys, Tom Petty, Kiss, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Richard Marx etc. etc. etc. a wide variety, but when I went to see Clay’s Jute box tour he was the best hands down the best. He has stage presence, humor, snarkiness, and unbelievable energy. At least I speak from experience I have been to hundreds of concerts in 25 years so no one can tell me I don’t know what I am talking about. It is fact that you didn’t even hear this cd and yet you judge it.

Adolph | 8/15/2006, 10:45 pm EST

Hey JOE!
*HEE-HEE* I know you’re real names not “JOE”. There are no “JOEs” among the old hag Claymates. They’re ALL old W O M E N. Yea, um, I am a hater. Clay’s a karaoke eunich and the Claymates are the biggest bunch of losers EVAH! As I understand it, the plan is to buy 8 copies thei forst week of release to “show” america Clays popular. Whassamatter Claymates? Are you afraid of how many he would sell without your fraud? The whole cheesey Clay/Claymate mess is funny but it’s not HA-HA funny – it’s like YUCK-EWWW funny.

Joe is really Claytango | 8/15/2006, 10:55 pm EST

I’m sure the president of B & N will be interested in your story. Your probably the Claymate that they had to call the police on.

Joe | 8/15/2006, 11:07 pm EST

Well you all would be wrong about my name. I used to post on PH. I do not know who Claytango is. Is she one of the fans that has been harrassed? In fact, I am a lurker and don’t post on the boards. So, your wrong about that one.

As for contacting the President of any Co., thats easy. If you were a professional businessman with money, you would know that.

Frank | 8/15/2006, 11:12 pm EST

Sashntash, who the hell are you coming in this forum begging us to buy 8 copies of Clay’s album? We’re not a bunch of old dried up prunes here with no life and who sit around a computer all day voting for Clay in meaningless polls and who ignore their husbands and kids fawning over someone they can never have.

I wouldn’t even buy one copy of a stupid cover CD by an internet sex stalker. He’s one sick guy to pose naked like he did where even kids were able to see his sickly looking body. Clay is nothing but a pervert shoving his fist up another guys rectum.

Joanie | 8/15/2006, 11:14 pm EST

Adolf,
You really should learn how to spell. You are showing how dumb you are.

Willard | 8/15/2006, 11:14 pm EST

Here’s the deal: This Cds gonna SUCK BAAAAAAAAAAAAD! All you have to do to know this 100% for certain is read the comments about the article to know that. This is ridiculous. Real music fans don’t act like this. Aiken doesn’t have any “REAL” music fans.

Joanie | 8/15/2006, 11:16 pm EST

Yeah Frank, you are a dried up old prune, sitting at your computer all day. We know you as Groucho, the biggest perv of all.

Joanie | 8/15/2006, 11:20 pm EST

Willard,
Why don’t you educate all of us on “real music fans”.

Joe | 8/15/2006, 11:26 pm EST

To the Clay A. fans,

I think we should just stop posting on here. We can be fans of anyone we want to be. Nobody can tell us what kind of music to like or anything else. We are too good for this and so is Clay.

Joe is Claytango | 8/15/2006, 11:41 pm EST

Yeah but “Joe” you’re really Claytango, an unemployed, never married, mental case that lives alone with her mother. The president of B & N is a busy man. He isn’t interested in a bunch of fat middle aged Claymates.

Frank | 8/15/2006, 11:47 pm EST

Joanie, first of all, who is this Groucho that you’ll talk about and no my name is Frank and I’m 27 years old. So how old are you dearie?

Adolph | 8/15/2006, 11:47 pm EST

Attaboy Joe! If you can’t win by cheating the Claymate way take tell all the Claymates this BLog doesn’t matter.

*NEWSFLASH* It DOES matter buddy! This is the real world – not the make-believe world the Claymates live in. Clay Aiken is a crappy cheeseball and the only thing he has going for him is his crazy old Claymates. If they didn’t each spend a couple of hundred dollars each multi-buying Aikens crappy albums he wouldn’t even have a recording contract. He’s completely owned, bought & paid for byt the Claymates – the creepiest fans on earth.

Joe | 8/15/2006, 11:55 pm EST

No, I am not Claytango. Don’t know her. I used to post on PH. You have never called me Claytango before but I used to see you call other people that.

You people are idiots, So easy to fool. I used to fool you sometime on PH. If you had any brain cells you would remember what name I used to post under.

Laura | 8/16/2006, 12:01 am EST

The more crap you shovel on top of Clay and his fans, just raises him and us, high up above you, while you sink to the bottom, being buried beneath the foul, decaying waste you spew out..it doesn’t harm or effect him…or us for that matter…just shows your true self….ugly, foul, offensive……
true, manure can be used for better purposes….but… I don’t see that happening with any of you haters….
a sad, sad, thing…..for you that is

Joanie | 8/16/2006, 12:08 am EST

Adolph,

Clay was signed by RCA as season 2 ended, before he ever sold any CDS. Clive Davis has said on television that Clay is very talented. So, buddy, you are full of it.

Joe | 8/16/2006, 12:15 am EST

Nobody said this blog doesn’t matter. Just that its not worth our time to talk to people like you “haters”.

JD | 8/16/2006, 12:18 am EST

Clay is probably best suited as an interpretive singer doing other peoples’ songs his way. Some amazing performers have had a career doing other people’s songs, like Johnny Rivers, Linda Rondstadt and Frank Sinatra to name a few, each taking the songs and making them their own. Anyway, didn’t Hall and Oates record “Everytime You Go Away” before Paul Young did? So basically it’s a cover of a cover.

smirky | 8/16/2006, 12:19 am EST

why???

Sheila | 8/16/2006, 12:31 am EST

Frank, Hollywood, Adolph, Priscilla, and all the rest of you haters. You are none other than:

Groucho (the 60 something year old obsessed Kelly Clarkson fan) that is a full time Clay basher also known as Marquesan Godfather, Nu2clay and so many more alias’s) along with the rest of his gang and they are:

Shully, DirectorSandy, Idolski, Shannon, Un4gitible and the rest of the crew at KCE (Kelly Clarkson Express).

These sickos sniff out any mention of Clay Aiken so they can bash him. They hate him with a passion and have done and are still doing some of the most vile, ugly things they could trying to destroy him and his career.

These people spend the biggest part of their sick little lives hating and trashing Clay. No I need to correct myself…bashing Clay IS their life. They have even paid money to joined his official fan club. How sick is that?

I’ve always heard what goes around comes around. I sure hope that is true.

Joanie | 8/16/2006, 12:40 am EST

Thank you, Sheila.

Don | 8/16/2006, 12:41 am EST

Oh yeah, the haters are out if full fashion. Funny how the Clayfans get made fun of yet it is the haters that go around spamming every article, blog, review, and mention of him. Having that kind of hatred for a celebrity they will never know is pretty sick and disgusting. I guess fear is a real force that just can’t reckon with.

I’ve heard Clay sing a few times and seen him a few times on Leno, Kimmel, SNL and some other talk type shows–don’t remember which ones exactly. When he’s there he is always funny, seems like a nice guy that gets along well with the hosts, and then he performs. And the audience always goes crazy. I must admit, I haven’t heard him do a bad performance out of the ones I have seen. Don’t know that I can say that about many singers, and I watch Leno and Kimmel every single night, each one having a musical guest each night. Most of them are horrible. I was a teen in the 80s and 90s and there were still some really good songs around then, before everything changed to rap and “how dirty can we get” type music. I will definitely be interested in hearing this CD when it comes out. I think my wife just might really like it. And hey, I usually score good points if I can show a little romantic side once in a while. So love songs doesn’t sound half bad to me. And being sing by someone who can really sing, yeah that sounds pretty good.

June | 8/16/2006, 12:44 am EST

Well, these comments began as an honest criticism of the blog and has now descended into trashy talk and name-calling. My suggestion for the folks who admire Clay and his talent is just to leave this place. Let the haters have it — they will soon be just talking to themselves.

laurie | 8/16/2006, 12:45 am EST

Sheila, why are you naming names here when the discussion is Clay. I could go to Clay’s board and name some haters and play the same game as you. NYMOM4Clay, Claynation, MAMAROSE10, CLAYROCKS, ELSPETH, HOTCLAY, AIKENFORCLAY, VINCENT ETC. So what does that prove? Nothing. You like Clay, I don’t, end of story.

Joanie | 8/16/2006, 12:48 am EST

Laurie, But those people don’t go on blogs hating on Kelly or anybody else. Doesn’t feel good to get it back, now does it.

Frank | 8/16/2006, 12:53 am EST

To add one more comment about this fellow Groucho, one thing I have in common with the Claymates is that I think he is one sick person and if I was Kelly, I would get a restraining order against him. But back to Clay, I don’t know if his CD will be a success or not, only time will tell. All this BS back and forth is a waste of space.

Laurie | 8/16/2006, 12:56 am EST

Tit for tat is stupid, Clay has a great voice and so does Kelly. God, how I wish these damn fan wars would end so we can just talk about the merits of their CD’s in a civil manner.

Joanie | 8/16/2006, 1:02 am EST

How is it you people think you know so much about Clay and his fans? Do you hear something and then respond to it as if its true?

Frank, your first post just seemed very vile and nasty like Groucho does.

Frank | 8/16/2006, 1:10 am EST

Yeah, well what this Paulus guy said in the gossip paper about what Clay wanted to do to him sounded nasty to me too. In fact it made me sick that someone who claims to be so religeous as Clay did something like that on the internet, it’s just mind-boggling. If only he had come out to say it never happened that would have perhaps made me think that the guy was making it up, but the fact that there was no reply from Clay made me think hummmm.

Sheila | 8/16/2006, 1:19 am EST

Laurie,

You cannot go to one Clayboard and find Kelly bashing…not one that I have ever seen. It would not be tolerated. There are threads for Kelly on some of Clay’s boards because some of his fans are also her fans. Why would Claynation allow Kelly threads on the fansite she created for Clay if she hated Kelly. The people you named would never bash her.

You sure can’t say that about the Kelly boards, especially KCE.

I don’t care one bit if you don’t like Clay, but why trash him…why drag him through the gutter? What has he done to you haters? It is absolutely disgusting the filth and vile that has been said about him on Kelly’s fansites.

Vinman | 8/16/2006, 1:20 am EST

Clay is at least as genuine as Panic! At The Disco and Dashboard Confessional.

yup | 8/16/2006, 1:25 am EST

ahhhh. thanks frank, now i understand where you are comming from. hey, i wonder how that baby is doing….. you know the one that was given birth out of someones head! it was in the same issue of the enquirer! Clay’s statement this week says it all. he accepts the lies as a part of the “job” and ignores them. Jp is a full of crap and that has been proven. maybe not to you. but to clay’s fans JP is a lying famewhore.

Jane | 8/16/2006, 1:38 am EST

To all the haters could one of you please answer my question – why? What do you have in you to hate a person you don’t even know? I don’t like many artists, however, I would never dream of trying to destroy them. I just don’t buy their c d’s or go to their concerts. To the Kelly fans who hate Clay why can’t you just focus on how successful she is. To the other haters are you using this hate to make yourselves feel better. If you finally succeed in destroying Clay Aiken how will it feel? Will it give you happiness beyond anything you have ever experienced? Will you laugh, applaued, throw a party? Will the joy last a day, week, month or longer? What will you do next to fill up your lives? I am a mother of two boys. When I see the type of world that I have brought them into, full of unreasonable hate, my heart breaks.

kfc | 8/16/2006, 1:48 am EST

Don,

Your wife is lucky to have an intelligent and romantic person like yourself as her husband. I’m sure you and your wife will really love Clay’s new cd.

There, obviously, is not enough love in the world..maybe Clay will start a new trend..maybe not with this hard-core group of haters, but, possibly with the twenty-somethings coming up. I’ve talked to many of them on claysites and they seem very level-headed and hard-working and interested in all the good deeds Clay does to help those in need.

Maybe the majority of Clay’s fans are 40+; that’s because they’re smart enough now to recognize a fine person when they see and hear one. The haters, here, have only listened to themselves for many years and so, they couldn’t recognize a voice of reason if they heard one. All they’ve ever heard is hate.

I’m sure Clay won’t care if 85% of these posters don’t buy his CD; he knows his fans support him and that’s all that matters to him.

We will probably read many more reviews such as this one. Too many writers get a lot of pleasure out of instigating a debacle such as this; their goal is actually to denigrate Clay’s fans, not necessarily to write an honest review. Easy to recognize in this case, as the cd hasn’t even been released yet.

Rollingstone has never had the reputation of being an intelligent magazine at the best of times. Why would we expect it of them now, n’est-ce pas, eh?

Canada

Jack | 8/16/2006, 2:11 am EST

That’s the weirdest picture I’ve ever seen. What’s up with this new make over. Before, a geek, after, a weirdo. Man, he’s freaking me out.

kfc | 8/16/2006, 2:14 am EST

Yeah, well what this Paulus guy said..Frank

Sounds like something my kids used to say when they got in trouble after drinking with their so-called friends and the cops found them …so Frank must be about 17 years old..right??? No intelligence to discern right from wrong…? Paulus led him down that garden path called pornography.?..dang!

Lesson #1: Never respond to idiots no matter what they say..you will only make them think they’re intelligent because you could understand their misspelled words.

Lesson #2: Clay does not owe anyone an explanation for any personal decision he chooses to make. It does not matter, J.P. what date he actually bought his new car. You will never be in it.

Lesson #3.Clay does not have to ask J.P.’s permission to have his shredded life back. And, he does not owe him $74.32 for your alledged hotel bill. Perhaps NE will cover it.

Lesson #4. Kelly’s fans have no right to destroy the reputation of Clay’s fans just for the fun of it. Kelly and Clay are friends.

Lesson #5. Rollingstone has to accept responsibility for all this hate being directed at Clay. They instigated it directly by writing such an obnoxious article. they have made no attempt to monitor the board..because they love this outcome.

Lesson #6. Now go out and buy 8 copies of Clay’s new CD because you all will love it.

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 2:42 am EST

I am a 62 year old white female, and I am a Claymate and proud of it! I still work, I pay taxes, I have children and grandchildren, I go to church, I vote, I have a nice car, I dance, I love, I listen to good music, I give to charity, I own a home, I love my parents, I pray! I go out with friends, laugh, and enjoy life! It is 2:23 a.m. and I am sitting in front of a computer stunned at how America thinks…I was asleep but I guess you all woke me up with your arguing!

I have been to many Clay Aiken concerts, and believe me, I am in a minority when it comes to age. There are many young women and men there…but Clay Aiken knows how to show respect to those that are older, he knows how to dance with us, to be inclusive, to make us feel we are still a part of society…He sees people as people…I am not dead, I am alive, and it really makes me sad to think that a young talented man named Clay Aiken is attacked because I enjoy his music and am willing to spend my hard earned $$$ on it! I am not dead…I am alive so please quit bashing me…I take this personal…I’ll come after you, hold you down, and make you listen to his CD! Now don’t ignore me because I am ‘more mature’! And as long as I can listen to music, I will listen to Clay…unless he goes to rapping!

Do you know that Clay Aiken fans raised over $70,000 to support children in Lebanon, and many gave to Israel as well…Clay inspires us to “make a difference” in a hurting world. Clay loves and does not hate…seems to be unpopular thing here! Well, I am off of here…not a good place!

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 2:46 am EST

Oh, one more thing…I bet most of you critics here know and love someone similar to me…maybe your parents, your grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, co-workers..maybe not that they are Clay Aiken fans, but that they are part of the ‘more mature’ society in which we live. Be respectful…it costs you nothing!

Mckay | 8/16/2006, 2:46 am EST

The most revealing thing in this mess of a thread is character of Claymates. There are always haters for every artist. Go to any artist Blog or fansite. What’s unusual about the Claymates is how weird and “concerned” they are about Clays reputation. They don’t want anyone to believe that he’s gay even if he is and ALL the evidence so far says he IS gay. The whole thing is twisted and the Claymates faux-morality mission statements make me sick. These are evil twisted people who have invested their entire pathetic lives in Clay Friggin Aiken – WHY? Because they’re alone, lonely, unloved, scorned by the men in their lives, and a hundred other sad and depressing reasons. These are Claymates. They lie about who they really are because they’re ashamed to admit the truth. All of the Claymate websites have done internal polling and found out their members are almost exclusively over 40, divorced or unmarried, and A L O N E. Under most circumstances a group like them would deserve pity – but not the Claymates: They’re EXTREME homophobes, liars, frauds, and they’ll do AYTHING, cheat ANYONE, lie about ANYONE, because they don’t have anything else to cling to in their lives.

It’s a sad story – but it’s true.

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 2:54 am EST

Hmmm McKay…you are wayyyyyy off base!! I wonder how you would know such things…I am afraid you are uninformed…you have not described Clay fans…God bless you!

Mckay | 8/16/2006, 2:57 am EST

Potter-
I just described you to a T. You’re a lunatic.

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 2:59 am EST

I guess so…I sure feel sad for you…

Jack | 8/16/2006, 3:01 am EST

Wow, Claymates are really something, aren’t they? Are they always like this, getting worked up over any articles unfavorable to Clay? so funny.

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 3:21 am EST

Well Jack & McKay…you have sure given me a good laugh tonight! Thanks! I must be one unique old lady…you sure cannot understand one like me….take off your blinders…the whole world does not hate…there are still some good people out in this vast world…to lift up and not tear down is really not too popular, is it? I have laughed till I have cried..yep, this group has really entertained me tonight…actually, I have kinda entertained myself in the wee hours of the morning…*laughing*…I am indeed a little ‘off’…*laughing*

Jack | 8/16/2006, 4:36 am EST

My goodness, you are not a little “off”, you sound like you’re completely off your meds or something. Is it because Clay’s music speaks so little, you crazy claymates have to talk so big? bunch of freaks.

J. Wilson | 8/16/2006, 6:06 am EST

Why are people so nasty? There is already enough of that in this world. If you like Clay’s singing, buy his CD, if you don’t, don’t buy it; if you like his new look, try the style, if you don’t. don’t bother. Its that simple. And folks, Clay is not gay, and all your yapping won’t make it so!!. He is an honest man, and when he says he isn’t, that should be enough. Its hard to understand people who love to pull other people down. Personally, I am a Clay fan because I love his voice, and the decent, honest person he is. We all don’t like the same music or singers, and since there alot of singers out there, just pick someone else you like.

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 6:10 am EST

Jack, you just don’t understand! This really is not about Clay or his music…this is about people judging others when they don’t know what they are talking about…and being kind… Really!!! Most are just making off the wall comments, and have never seen Clay live, or listened to his music. It seems many cannot stand to see his success…Clay does not me to defend him…he has a Defender you do not understand! Now go think on that! Don’t worry about my lack of meds…I assure you I am well and happy! And I wonder if you are the same. It takes sad and unhappy people to tear down others.. whether it be Clay Aiken or Usher… :)

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 6:14 am EST

Well, go J. Wilson…so good to see you here, and you are right on! Many diverse kinds of music…something for all of us to enjoy…just pick one!

J. Wilson | 8/16/2006, 6:23 am EST

Clay Aiken has a great voice! He is a fine and decent man who unlike so many here never says mean things about other people. If you don’t like his voice, don’t buy the CD! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but not to mean and hurtful talk. I have already ordered 3 copies , for my friends and myself.

There is nothing wrong with singing songs that have been done before, what do you think opera singers sing? The album will be great and will sell many, many copies! Clay has many fans who are decent, hardworking people who are just like other singer’s fans!

Lynn | 8/16/2006, 10:00 am EST

I find it amusing..and more than a bit pathetic..that so many of you nuts claim to hate Clay Aiken so much..and yet spend an inordinate amount of your time trolling the Clay boards and posting such offensive drivel.
There is a lot of so-called music around that I don’t care for, but for some odd reason,I simply don’t buy it,nor do I go to the artists’ fan sites and fritter my time away name-calling and spouting hatred because of it.
It’s a diverse world we live in people, and we all enjoy different things…food, art, music, films, etc.As long as I am free to indulge my own tastes,I could not care less about yours.

I cannot imagine how empty your lives must be. You folks need counseling..and a more productive hobby.

Joanie | 8/16/2006, 10:28 am EST

Hey, anyone with brain cells know a lot of what you read on the internet are lies. You just have to be able to tell which are or not. Frank, are you so easily taken in that you believe everything. Most celebrities know that if you start paying attention to everything that is said about you, you would have no time for work. Clay has had to deal with this for three years.

Frank seems to know a lot about this story. You are transparent and we know who you are.

To Jack,
I am in my 40s and I know lots of other fans who are as well. I know other fans who are older and some younger. What difference does age make? Are you all disrepectful of your Parents and grandparents? You know older people are the original “cool” kids. They were there to see the start of rock and roll. You don’t stop living because you age. You will all be old one day if your lucky. But, some of you posting here are already old.

I have a very good marriage and my husband supports my being a Clay fan. I am lucky because I don’t have to work outside the home. Many Clay fans have happy marriages. The ones who are not married would be just like the statistics for other people in America. Many of his fans have very good jobs, but there again we are just people like others across America. A lot of us are loved very much by our husbands, children or friends. You don’t know us. You like to perpetuate bad things about us because that fits your evil, nasty agenda.

You should be lucky to someday be able to live as good a life as I have. But, why would you put down people who may not have been as lucky? That just shows your mentality. It seems to me you “haters” have not been taught to show respect. If you were my children or someone close in my family, I would knock you into tomorrow.
Oh, and another thing. I am a petite person and I don’t like fried chicken.
Everybody just watch now. They will show up and call me a liar.

Trish | 8/16/2006, 10:31 am EST

The amount of name calling on this blog is amazing. It is one thing to say you don’t like Clay or his singing. That is fine and a matter of personal taste. I personally cannot stand 95% of the secular music out now. But that is my personal taste. One thing I have learned about reading this blog however is that some people really don’t care about music, but rather are interested only in attacking and name calling. It shows an extremely low level of maturity to name call a singers fans and making illogical statements that have no basis in fact. For example, to say that Clays fans are all a bunch of lonely, tired and mentally ill middle aged women is just not true. But then truth is obviously not in the vocabulary of so many people. The facts are that many people of all ages enjoy and will continue to enjoy Clay because he can sing like crazy, he is a gifted performer and he is making a positive difference in this world. I certainly can’t say that about many other performers. For example, consider Madonna who can’t sing but does well at making offensive videos. Or how about Britney and Shakira who look like they are auditioning for Playboy when they perform. Or how about Mick Jagger who in my opinion is painful to listen to. However, obviously some people like those singers and that is their perogative. But again, these are just my honest opinions. My final opinion – I have a feeling that Clay will no longer sing when Clay decides he no longer wants a career in music not because of any of us.

shejean | 8/16/2006, 11:22 am EST

It is so true that bashing of other performers is NOT allowed on Clay’s most popular fan sites. Those posts are immediately deleted by the mods. The mention that if a lot of Clay fans ARE over 40 it is because we appreciate good music is right on! Although I think Clay’s fans are becoming more and more diversified; some of the younger folks out there who think this rap crap is ‘fantastic music’ may never appreciate performers like Clay. Even Justin Timberlake has gone even cruder and I bet he will sell millions of his new cd. I think that is sad. So often I hope younger people will finally get the message that the real crude and disgusting stuff on the radio now-a-days is NOT good music; and so many of their, or their parents’, hard earned dollars are going to feed the people responsible for the dreck out there. Here’s to Clay opening up the ears and eyes of these kids.

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 11:50 am EST

For those that love Kelly & Clay, go to youtube.com…see them singing in concert…I think both are having fun!

Have a good day!

kfc | 8/16/2006, 12:03 pm EST

To the Potter….good morning, girl..great posts.

I just knew all the posters would be very excited to hear that Clay’s recently announced appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show has already sold out!!!

It seems all our 40-50-60+ year old senior sisters have acted with haste..’You go, girls’…lol Sometimes it’s handy to be old, single, sitting around the house doing nothing but watching for Clay news. lol They will now have the pleasure of seeing that gorgeous fellow in person..performing one of those amazing love song..covers..that we all love.

We just know all those CD’s are going to disappear like hotcakes..Clay’s CD should go double platinum the very first week.

And we’ll all stand up and clap…if we have to use canes or walkers or whatever it takes. lol

Allison | 8/16/2006, 12:26 pm EST

As usual you Claymates don’t have a clue. Most people dont care about Clay Aiken AT ALL – he’s just another smarmy wannabe. It’s you Claymates people HATE with so much passion. You’re the ones out making fools of yourselves insulting people with your sanctimonius preaching. EFF U!

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 12:37 pm EST

Thanks kfc! I agree with your post…we are in continuous celebration of Clay and who we know he is! Bring on the cane…and I don’t mean Carolina Hurri”canes”!

Allison, we don’t mean to offend you so…why do you let us do that? You know we don’t mean to…we are just celebrating our ’star’, and it irritates you…

You, Allison, are responsible for your reaction to us…not us…we cannot do anything to you that you don’t allow…and that goes for us as well…Me? I’m happy!

Smitty | 8/16/2006, 12:38 pm EST

I’ve never been a fan of any of the American Idols but a friend sent me the ’snippets’ of Clays new songs and WOW……..I will definitly buy it!

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 12:45 pm EST

Allison…don’t hate us…we are truly nice people…it takes so much energy to hate…and ‘you know WHO’ breeds hate!

You really need to think about that…are you a troller on the Aiken boards…you sure seem to have some strong opinions about the Claymates who I think are very nice people…just fans out there loving their songster…and it ticks you off….I don’t get it!! I am sorry you are so mad!

elli | 8/16/2006, 12:47 pm EST

Hate is a too strong word, I think most people just find claymates childish and annoying. It seems they never heard the saying, you can’t demand repect, you have to earn it. Sadly so far Clay’s music is so run of the mill as run of the mill can be. It seems the worse Clay is getting, the more vicious the claymates are getting. Clay is a phenomena (sadly nothing to do with music) because claymates insist making him one by innundating every poll and every forum on earth.

Sean | 8/16/2006, 12:56 pm EST

My sisters learning piano from a session musician for RCA in Century City and she told my sister everyone at RCA despises Clay Aiken because he’s a jerk and he’s nothing but a karaoke singer. She said they HATE his fans because they act like such retards and email everybody who works at RCA and even the executives at BMG. She said they’re CRAZY and all the “little” people at RCA hope CLay Aikens album FAILS!

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 12:59 pm EST

Elli says “Sadly so far Clay’s music is so run of the mill as run of the mill can be”

I say “Disagree”…now does that make me “childish and annoying”?
I hope not because I consider it my freedom of speech…but go figure…some don’t like us, but we are still nice people…just like Clay! Dang!

Lynsey | 8/16/2006, 12:59 pm EST

Elizabeth Goodman,

How can anyone “critique” a CD that has not been released yet?

I’m very disappointed that Rolling Stone would post a negative preemptive strike without at least first *listening* to the music itself. That’s what I count on RS for — “legitimate” articles.

The Potter | 8/16/2006, 1:07 pm EST

Sean says “She said they’re CRAZY and all the “little” people at RCA hope CLay Aikens album FAILS!”

Seems RCA may have some enemies in their own camp…RCA artists pay their salaries…someone may need to let them know about these ‘enemies’….Sean, are you sure this is true? What is your sister’s name?

Joanie | 8/16/2006, 1:17 pm EST

Allison,
This really should not be that important to you.

A lot of people must care about Clay Aiken. He has a foundation, is a Uniceff ambassador and sold a lot of CDS. There are not enough internet fans to have bought over 4 million CDS even if we bought 10 or 15 a piece. There are a lot of us but not that many who buy multiples.

Maybe you need to not worry about Clay or his fans and think about things that are important to you.

Do you go around to other sites and post hateful things to fans of other celebrities you don’t like? I doubt if you do.

Lynsey | 8/16/2006, 1:35 pm EST

Sorry, but I can’t help myself here:

Regarding those involved in the bickering on this blog, you make it *very* hard to be a Clay Aiken fan, because people think *all* of us are ludicrous and laughable whenever they see such carrying on.

There’s only one truly effective response to “naysayers”: Nothing. Absolutely Nothing! Any response at all only gives them fuel to continue their negative ramblings; and most are just trying to rile the fans anyway, So Why On Earth Give Them The Satisfaction? You don’t need to argue or name-call or defend anything — if you get “it” and enjoy “it,” that’s enough. Or at least it should be. IMO.

(I don’t know — maybe I’m just old.)

Joanie | 8/16/2006, 1:36 pm EST

A lot of “little” people at big cos. hate the higher ups and people in power because they are the “little people”. Thats nothing new.

If RCA didn’t think Clay was talented and didn’t like him, they would drop him.

Have you noticed how many of these people conveniently have someone they know who knows someone else and blah, blah, blah. Its not inportant what the little people at RCA feel about Clay. We have heard this “insider” stuff before.
If Clay was as hated as some of these people say, he would have been dropped a long time ago.

Joe | 8/16/2006, 1:47 pm EST

Lynsey,

Of course, you are right. I said the same thing last night. I asked the fans to stop posting or just say what they feel, not react to what another person feels.

Rose | 8/16/2006, 4:08 pm EST

Allison, do yourself a favor and look within you to see why you are so angry with Clay’s fans. As a therapist, I see this as missplaced self-hatred. You seem to find them an easy target, kind of like a bully picking on a gentle kid. Or were you the gentle kid being picked on ?
Please get help.

Rose is just another loon | 8/16/2006, 4:18 pm EST

No therapist would go online and identify themselves as such on a blog and label a poster as exhibiting self hatred. That would be considered unprofessional conduct.

Genelle | 8/16/2006, 4:26 pm EST

Rose IS definately a LOON!

This display of weirdness by the Claymates should be enough for AMNYONE to see how bizarre and pathetic they are and the creepy singer they worship. Ewwwwwwwwwwww!

Elaine | 8/16/2006, 4:50 pm EST

I just listened to it and I’m stunned how dead and lifeless it is. This will never be a hit anywhere. I expected something tolerable but this exposed how lifeless and *dead* Clay Aikens vocal expression really is. He’s not a recording artist. He may put on good live shows but he can’t make qualtiy music. He’s just doesn’t have it in him to do it.

Bob | 8/16/2006, 4:51 pm EST

So you critics of Clay say that his fans are lonely,at home waiting for Clay news? Well,my wife is a fan, and she has a Ph.D.,has a great job, worksout and is in great shape,so please stop generalizing.

passby | 8/16/2006, 4:55 pm EST

I just heard Clay’s Without you. If this is any indication of the whole album, I’ll say it won’t wow any non-claymates. The arrangement and Clay’s phrasing are almost identical to the original version. It totally lacks any originality and tenderness and freshness which the original version has. Sure if I heard this in a local karaoke bar, I’d be very impressed. But who in the right mind would spend $15 to listen to some inferior carbon copies of some old hits with which you still get bombarded on those easy listening radioes for free.

amazed | 8/16/2006, 5:07 pm EST

“This is amazing…just amazing. This will be a huge hit. ”

It is amazing……………….
.. ………….how delusional the claymates can be. Yeah, just go have a listen and you’ll have a better understanding why Clay and claymates are the biggest laughing stock in the real world.

Joanie | 8/16/2006, 5:56 pm EST

Passby, Elain, and Amazed,

If you can’t at least admit that he has an incredible voice, then something is wrong. Even people who don’t like the music, think he has a great voice. Thats if you know what a good voice really is. Not all singers need radio play to be a success.

amazed | 8/16/2006, 6:10 pm EST

Clay’s voice could be a standout among all the AI contenders, but it’s nothing special in the real world comparing to countless professional singers. Besides, voice alone can never make you a great singer. I don’t see the point you claymates keep saying Clay has the best voice (only to you), it’s like saying any pretty face on screen can be a movie star. Judging by his previous albums and this track, Clay’s singing is very bland.

Rose | 8/16/2006, 6:12 pm EST

HaHa,my friend and me are both 13 and we were looking for something else on this site and saw these posts and some people sounded so pisses we just decited to have some fun with u. Gotcha!

Joanie | 8/16/2006, 6:27 pm EST

Of course there are other good singers out there. I just don’t understand out of all of them , Clay gets criticised the most. If Josh Groban and Michael Buble and singers like that get radio play on certain formats, why not Clay? I am not saying it should be Top 40.

Clay is probably more talented than most singers out there and they get played on the radio. Why should he be any different?

Lynn | 8/16/2006, 7:10 pm EST

I like Clay and his voice, so I will buy the cd.
Dont like him? Don’t buy it.
Simple.
Get over it.
Move on.

Steven | 8/16/2006, 7:40 pm EST

Wooooooah! That creeped me out.

deb | 8/16/2006, 7:55 pm EST

wow, you are insulting some top producers and artists. Do you honestly think you know more about the business than the pros do. Why don’t you call Richard Page an tell him he doesn’t know what he is talking about.

Mr. Mister: Clay’s Arrangement Is Our “Favourite”

The producer of “Broken Wings” and “Because You Loved Me”, Emanuel Kiriakou, offers some tidbits into ATDW. Both of these songs will be on A Thousand Different Ways.

According to Kiriakou’s brother who posted on a non-Clay message board, Mr. Mister, the band which wrote & performed “Broken Wings” back in the 80s, loved the arrangement for Clay’s version.

“In fact, Richard Page, from Mr. Mister, heard it and said that it’s his favorite arrangement that he’s ever heard, and he’s heard the song recorded 100’s of times.”

Checking Out | 8/16/2006, 8:26 pm EST

Calling all Claymates…are we really doing Clay any good being over here? We have a STAR… Let’s enjoy him and all that he brings to the table…let’s leave this discussion and go enjoy our STAR over at myspace. They wouldn’t be having a discussion if we weren’t responding…not with us any way.

This blogs comments are unbelievable. Are the Claymates really this crazy?

TB | 8/19/2006, 1:33 am EST

I think Clay has a good voice but he is singing the WRONG songs. Out of curiousity I was able to find some downlaods of this CD and gave them a listen. To be honest here Iwas very dissapointed in the way he covered them. He didn’t do any of theses well known and loved songs justice. It sounds like something you’d see on a local talent show, not very good. He is definitlt hurting what career he has left by doing covers so early in this biz. This is known as Artist Kill. It wont make him a bonafide Star in any way. When an artist does all covers so early in his career it means that his fanbase is suffering deeply and he is only trying to get a feel of what may be left out there. I am sure the hard core fans will buy this but in reality that is not what Clay is after. He wants and NEEDS “New” fans and with this CD it wont happen. It’s worse than the old Slim Whitman compilation.
My advice to Clay would be to stay out of the biz until you are ready and able to go after it with ALL YOU GOT, which this isn’t. Then again if this is the best he can do then his career is down the toliet. He is sending a feeler out and the chosice to do that is all wrong. I know this because I am affiliated with RCA. He isn’t Rod Stewart, he hasn’t been a number one artist or for very long, doing covers is a career killer. Sad to see a talent be wasted such as this.

Loretta | 8/19/2006, 9:00 pm EST

If you don’t like Clay’s new CD, just don’t buy it. Have you noticed that Clay never bashes anyone’s music. Learn from it. I love what I have heard and I know a lot of other people will too.

Anonymous | 7/17/2007, 4:50 pm EST
