Dude from Kasabian Slags Off the Stones

8/9/06, 1:25 pm EST

Tom Meighan

Nice one! Tom Meighan, the lead singer of Kasabian, who are opening for the Rolling Stones for some dates in the U.S., was under the impression that his band would have to buy tickets to see the Stones play at those shows. Making things infinitely worse, Meighan went on British TV and complained about Stones tickets costing “200 quid,” then blamed some faceless “Americans.”
First of all, dude, you are in Kasabian. Can we start with that? Opening for the Stones is the best thing that’s ever happened to you! Besides being an ingrate, you are also an idiot, because obviously you don’t have to pay to hear the Stones if you’re their support band. You should mortgage your incense-stinking East London apartment for the chance to watch the Stones every night anyway.
Meighan went on to release a weak, cliche-filled retraction which said that opening for the Stones is a “dream come true,” before slithering off to his dressing room.

errr excuse me! | 8/10/2006, 12:30 pm EST

dont u dare slag off kasabian they r hell of alot beter than those old grandads “the rolling stones” and for your infomation kasabian r from leicester da best place in da world which is nothin compared to council estate ridden east london. the rolling stones r so over they havent been in the UK singles chart since the 70’s where as Kasabian r currently in it!

Ratchy Ratch | 8/10/2006, 1:08 pm EST

Who can afford to see the Stones? Well, let’s see… all those people who go to everyone of their sold out shows can afford it. They’re called baby boomers and they can also afford to go see U2, David Bowie, Paul McCartney and all the other senior citizens who also happen to be the biggest grossing tour acts on the planet.

I’ve never even heard of Kasabian. Are they a new version of Oasis?

Hey there “errr excuse me!” let’s see where your precious Kasabian are in 25 years, or 10 years… heck, they probably won’t last 5 years…

Ted | 8/10/2006, 4:47 pm EST

Oh course it is worth it. They might be past their prime, but still sound great. Amazing. $100 to see the best RR band ever… damn right it is worth it even if they are getting old. “Errr excuse me!”… your excessive use of “Da” leads me to disreguard your view as valid. And Leicester… come on buddy. I would love to see your pale brit ass use the term Da like you are ghetto. You are on the rolling stone web site and posing as ghetto! HA. And really… the uk singles charts right now means very little as far as lasting stardom. Some Band from your home town breaks into the singles charts and you say they are better than the stones… you are out of your mind.

I decided when I was 15 I would never pay to see the Stones and when I was 40 somebody gave me tickets. It was worth the wait.

Lets get one thing straight, Kuntsabian certainly don’t hail from the East End, in fact they’re a bunch of northern monkeys mate. Sort your facts out before you try to be funny.

Snarf!

EARTHROX | 9/9/2006, 9:56 pm EST

awesome!

STONES FOREVER!! | 10/12/2006, 5:17 pm EST

You only wish your band was half as good as the Stones. I recently saw them in Louisville, KY and they had more energy and better stage moves than quite a few so-called Rock Bands that are out now. As for Kuntsabians’ opinion, well, opinions are like assholes – just because you have one, doesn’t mean anybody wants to hear it. (and that’s MY opinion – so there) KEITH RICHARDS FOREVER!!!

Rock On, Keith! | 10/12/2006, 5:23 pm EST

Granddads Rock!! I love Keith Richards!! They put on a better show than most bands can even dream of. Keith Richards is by far one of the most influential guitarists on the planet, and the man can still lay out a Tasty riff.

Rhajay | 11/1/2006, 5:26 am EST

Quite honestly The Rolling Stones are the most over-rated rock band in the history of music.

Angus Griffin | 1/17/2007, 11:48 am EST

I am almost seventeen and latterly saw The Stones perform at Twickenham; for someone of Tom Meighan’s stature to call The Stones ‘Grandads’ is an outrageous comment. They have influenced every modern rock band from Oasis to The Libertines. Keith, MIck, Ronnie and Charlie are nothing short of Hot Stuff, they are the biggest rock band ever and gross the largest amount of money in music – did our friend Tom have knowledge of this? For a naive and narcissitic man to make such a condescending comment is exhorbitant. So stop trying to Play With Fire man, and Let It Loose.

1952markh | 1/27/2007, 10:15 pm EST

The Stones are the greatest ever and that will ever be. But they charge too much to see repeated music and Brian Jones was,and always will be the seed of the Rolling Stones.

Big Gav... | 2/10/2007, 5:25 pm EST

Let me clear one thing up. London and Leicester are BOTH dump’s.

Any way Kasabian are alright, bit Oasis-ish, i think they want to be seen as the next Oasis so cue calling every other band around shite.

On the subject of the Stones, i wouldn’t give those wrinkley old feckers one penny, going through the motions is all it is.

The Stones were a great band. I say “were” because their new music sounds a little tired at this point – and you could say the same of all the younger bands that are aping them. The Stones no longer record enough together to produce another truly classic album. And no, “A Bigger Bang” will NOT be regarded as great in fifteen years. It will be regarded as a the Stones on the downside – an okay album.

ChaliQ | 5/16/2007, 11:51 am EST

This Kasabian cat has fuckin lost it. How can you open for a band & then not hear them play, he’s backstage for God’s sake. Is the cat a fuckin needle doper or something; maybe he’s injecting mushrooms & acid cause his head is firmly out of orbit, cause he certainly ain’t taking anykind of regular dope. By the way I haven’t paid to see these cats since 81 when I got scalped only 50 bucks but they weren’t worth it then either. I would rather see them jammin like they used to in the 70’s even if they were a little out of tune they were out there totally lost in the music. It’s a shame they have become such a well oiled machine they were much better loose.

jajaja | 6/5/2007, 12:15 pm EST

kasabian will never make such good music as the rolling stones’ they are a hundred times better than kasabian… and without the rolling stones out there i can’t imagine how rock would be…

also i saw them for 250 bucks and they were worth every minute

ROLLING STONES ROCK!!!!

Lisa | 6/15/2007, 4:16 pm EST

How dumb is this world?
Seriously, this SURELY was NOT meant serious or should be taken serious.
-.-
And he has a point indeed.
I love the Rolling Stones. But I love Kasabian also and don’t see the point of going mad about this statement, it means nothing.

stones fan | 6/22/2009, 5:02 pm EST

when kasabian are still touring and making music in fifty years time come back and tell people about them, because i guarentee the stones will be still listened too and talked of, just like they were nearly 50 years ago and still are today.
