Atlanta-born rapper T.I. is taking time off from his music career to appear alongside Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott’s new film American Gangster, out sometime next year. The film, which takes place during the Vietnam War, tells the story of a drug lord who uses dead soldier’s coffins to smuggle his product into Harlem. T.I. will play the nephew of Denzel’s character, Frank Lucas, and Crowe plays the (tough-yet-moral, we’re guessing) Detective Richie Roberts. Wu Tang Clan’s RZA is also affiliated with the project, but he doesn’t get to be related to Denzel.
