Korn Release Statement Regarding Death of Fan

8/2/06, 3:54 pm EST

KornKorn has released a statement addressing the death of fan and Family Values Tour-attendee Andy Richardson, who died yesterday after being beaten to death by fellow audience-members. Have you ever seen anything like this happen at a show?

Read the statement after the jump.

All the bands on THE FAMILY VALUES TOUR offer their sincerest condolences and prayers to the family of 30-year-old Andy Richardson. Richardson, who attended Sunday’s show at Atlanta’s Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater, was beaten by two men at the concert and subsequently was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, August 1. The incident occurred during the Deftones set, before tour headliners KORN took the stage. KORN are appalled at the actions of these men and are imploring anyone who witnessed this senseless act or has any information about the attack to please immediately come forward by contacting local authorities.

Ugh… Is this enough proof that we should ban all these god-awful alternative/ metal groups from ever recording again? I sure hope so…

Nathalia Birkholz | 8/2/2006, 8:55 pm EST

yes,i did. in Brazil last year 3 kids died in a mexican band’s show when the crowd ran over them

This is what happens when you let a band like Korn perform. Their music is an abomination.

Becca | 8/3/2006, 12:14 am EST

You people have got to be kidding me. Like the music had anything to do with two idiots to murder someone. People like that will kill someone regardless of what music may be playing in the background. Any event with a large group of people can be dangerous, it’s called a mob mentality. Don’t go blaming this on artists who express themselves through a widely-accepted style of music.

Amrit | 8/3/2006, 1:08 am EST

As unfortunate as this tragedy is, it is ridiculously unfair to pin this on the band.
Furthermore, it is shocking to see people saying that bands such as Korn should be banned from recording.
Democracy?!

shano | 8/3/2006, 2:03 am EST

Ban them from recording? Thats just plain stupid. I’m not even a Korn fan but you can’t blame them. Their music an abomination, where do you fools come from?

Brittany W | 8/3/2006, 2:03 am EST

You know what! MTV NEWS SUX ASS!! Becuause they said that freaking Jonathen got killed… me and my friends were so devistated.. but it still sux that someone got killed. Those two men should go to jail and rot there… and for MTV NEWS! SCREW YOU!!

Certain types of music are instigators for violent behavior in impressionable people (see: Korn). Besides the fact that they also suck ass, this a solid reason as to why they should never be allowed to record again.

I mean, is anybody gonna be listening to this crap in 20 years?

im silly in my pants

Jonathan | 8/3/2006, 2:47 am EST

I’m all about censoring lyrics that seem to promote or justify violence. Get a load of these lines from a famous Korn song:

“And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:”

I mean, I knew they hated Creed, but that they wanted to seem running away in fear or dead. How could this horrible song about war, death and revenge go on ?

“And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Oh, I’m sorry; I guess I somehow confused the lyrics of the Star-Spangled Banner for the wretched ones of Korn. I mean they both seem to be pretty ticked off. So I guess we’ll have to ban that one too: who needs a national anthem, anyway?

Maybe I’m wrong here, but I’m thinking those two guys did him a FAVOR by doing this before Korn played.

ed | 8/3/2006, 7:28 am EST

korn’s not even a real band. you want to see a real show, go see SLAYER!

Massa | 8/3/2006, 8:55 am EST

I saw a similiar event at a Harry Bellafonte Christmas show in 99.

Brother | 8/3/2006, 9:42 am EST

Korn is truly bad and this is another reason why they should break up.

Brother | 8/3/2006, 9:44 am EST

But again, the death should not be blamed on them.

The vast majority of these comments were posted by insensitive retards. Please ignore all of them.

This country needs a serious gene pool cleaning if you think music causes people to kill. People kill people, retards.

Korn’s music is not what it used to be, but just as they have the freedom to create whatever music they want, you have the freedom, the choice, to just not listen. Just like those two losers chose to commit a senseless act of murder.

gus | 8/3/2006, 12:51 pm EST

it’s really sad when people go to a show to have fun and end up hurt. however there are plenty of places to enjoy the show besides the pit. this poor kid was in front of the stage trying stop people from enjoying the show the way they like to. he put himself in an “unsafe” situation. some blame has to fall on his decision to stay near the pit.

sara | 8/8/2006, 9:48 am EST

come on people get a grip. korn is a great band and johnathan has shown alot of courage as he continues to please his fans knowing that he does have a life threating disorder. He shows his fans that you cant let a disablity get you done.

Intelligent person | 8/11/2006, 5:14 am EST

Well, first of all, I’d say that Korn is OK, I am completely nuetral. That being said. Lots of things happen in large group gatherings, also, humans are naturally violent. We are the only species that kills other members of it’s species in mass quanities. Korn doesn’t make people die, people that want to kill others, makes people die. It’s simple logic. I don’t like bands like slayer. But they should have a right to play music also, how they please. If you don’t like it, STOP LISTENING TO IT OR ISOLATE YOURSELF FROM THE CULTURE. He chose to be in the moshpit, he chose to stick up to the teenages that were most likely high and almost positively enebriated with alchohol. He could’ve decided, hmm, I’ll stay up here to play it safe. I am not saying it’s his fault, but it certainly isn’t Korn’s.

blaaa | 1/27/2008, 1:01 am EST

go to hell people. you guyz suck ass they dont. so go suck a dick.if you dont like the music dont listen to it.now that is a simpel sulution. you hater can all go bern in hell.
