America Protects Itself From Threat to the North: Canadian Rock Bands

7/26/06, 4:50 pm EST

Attention all Canadian bands: Be careful what you say when you’re crossing into the States. On their way to a gig in the U.S., Canadian rockers the Grey lied to border guards, claiming they weren’t performing while in America. Oops: The guards checked the band’s tour schedule online and freaked out. The Grey claims they were then interrogated separately, then banned from entering the country for five years.

I fell much safer now. How about you?

American paranoia has us all freaked out! A friend of mine who was caught with a joint 25 years ago (and charged) has not been allowed in the US since 9/11. The U.S. now considers him a criminal and a threat!

It should work both ways. US stops criminals like ‘weed smokers’ from going south, and Canada stops criminals like ‘Wal-mart’ from coming north.

The American government and law enforcement agencies have lost all sense of reality and the paranoia is turning you into more of a police state every day. Are you even remotely aware what the rest of the world thinks of America? Sad.

Daisy | 7/27/2006, 11:25 am EST

So this makes the fact the band LIED to the American government okay? If they hadn’t lied, the issue wouldn’t have been brought up!

Korey | 7/27/2006, 11:26 am EST

oh god, when will all this American ridiculousness end? Everybody down there seems to talk about change and being upset, but why doesn’t anything ever get done??

Jessica | 7/27/2006, 11:30 am EST

Oliver,

Sweet joke!

Alex | 7/27/2006, 11:34 am EST

Who cares?

It’s a sign of the times. Just don’t lie to Border patrol. I thought everyone knew that. And that guy from Canada saying that we never get sh*t done!?!? Hilarious. This coming from canada.

Brad | 7/27/2006, 11:39 am EST

Lying to the border guards was a stupid thing to do, but if, like me they’ve previously experienced the dehumanizing humiliation that these guys dish out (and I told the truth!), I don’t blame them. I hardly expect some unknown Canadian band to be a threat to your national security. What’s next? Pam Anderson’s boobs are registered as a deadly weapon? (Come to think of it…)

Terance | 7/27/2006, 11:57 am EST

If only they hadnt let sum 41 into America

Evil Eskimo | 7/27/2006, 12:48 pm EST

It’s too bad your President and his government has brainwashed the people of America into extreme fear and paranoia. It’s so bad that, Canadians are considered threatening. Now that shows you the Bush campaign is good at something, even if it’s lying.

HeyDingies | 8/3/2006, 8:42 pm EST

It’s called working illegally in the U.S. and taking jobs away from similarly mediocre American bands. If only they coulda caught Neil Young or Joni Mitchell so many protest songs ago.
