Video of the Day: Muse,

On first watch of this Sergio Leone/Roger Corman camp opus you might think: “wow, some Blockbuster clerk totally hijacked Muse’s new video.” But band leadman Matt Bellamy is the brain behind this spaghetti-western free-for-all, which also features an Uma Thurman doppelganger as the token sexy badass.

Bellamy told Rolling Stone that his recent move from England to Italy inspired the shift in his vision: “From living in northern Italy, I became interested in southern Italian music and music from the South of Spain, like flamenco guitar. When you hear it, it sounds like the music from the [spaghetti] western films.” Now that Muse have a top ten album, it’s clear somebody likes them. Just admit it.

Its about time you people at Rollingstone gave Muse a squelch of the credit they are due. They only have the number one record in all of Europe, play riffs that no one else in rock can even touch, and put on one of the best live shows on the planet. As long as you keep on dogging them for having amazing influences such as Buckley and Radiohead, than they will continue to tour limited small venue shows here in the states.

Yeah, their last album may have been a bit repetive, but times have changed.

The new album, and especially this track “Knights” shows them finally moving in a unique direction (and Bellamy finally dropping the constant ‘opera singer’ act helps, as well).

This is the best video I’ve seen in years, too. I must have watched it 20 times in the last two days.

I had never much liked Muse before listening to Black Holes and Revelations, but now I’m already heading to their Boston gig in two weeks.
