New Study: Rock Shows Cause Global Warming

7/19/06, 6:36 pm EST

Are you one of those people who look down on kids who hold up their cellphones during rock shows, and pine for the days when rock fans waved good old-fashioned lighters? Well kill that noise, especially if you’re also an environmentalist. Turns out the emissions from those harmless-seeming little Bics are actually bona fide pollutants. We imagine that it would take one absurdly long version of “Freebird” to equal the amount of damage done by even a day at a coal plant, but still. (No comment from Lil’ Kim on whether her fans should indeed keep their lighters up.) [The Modern Age]

That is so damn dumb. Look at the amount of materials used to make a cell phone. You could hold open a thousand lighters and never equal the amount of pollution one discarded cell phone would create. I know people in their twenties who have had eight or nine phones. That is the dumbest study ever…
Not to mention the fact that those phones must be “charged” usually by power from a fossil fuel (coal) burning plant. Give me a break!

If you are ever in doubt just blame global warming.
