This is so awesome. The Church of England’s Truro Cathedral is recruiting Elvis (okay an Elvis impersonator) to perform a selection of gospel hits as part of their commitment to what they call “a more exciting and radical agenda.” The service/performance takes place on August 6th and will feature Johnny Cowling – a runner up in some search-for-Elvis competition – as the hip-shaker himself. The Cathedral’s Head of Worship suggests that Elvis was selected because his “Christian faith was very important to him” but we think the truth lies more in Cardinal Carlo Furno’s comment that it’s “better to have guitars on the altar … than empty churches.”
