Tuesday News: Interpol, Bob Dylan, Thom Yorke, Commodores, Trail of Dead, Black Eyed Peas

7/11/06, 10:01 am EST

  • The likely lads of Interpol have taken a break from looking marvelous (and writing songs) to cough up some details about their forthcoming third album, due next year. Among the revelations from their recent message board post: They broke up four times, and the album will feature a “gem” called “The Heinrich Maneuver.”
  • Like a beautiful demon haunting a Starbucks, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke recently strapped on an acoustic guitar and performed songs his new solo album for “The Henry Rollins Show.” Watch Thom perform “The Clock.” In other news, Henry Rollins has a show.
  • Strum, sneer, jazz hands! The Times They Are A-Changin’, a musical based on Bob Dylan songs, will premiere in October at San Diego’s Old Globe Theater.
  • Milan B. Williams, a founding member of Seventies Lionel Richie-led funk outfit the Commodores, has died.
  • And You Shall Know Them By the Native Instruments and Logic Audio?: Austin, Texas noise-rockers (and loudest-band-on-the-planet candidates) …Trail of Dead have completed their fifth album, which draws on “sample libraries, like native instruments” and “Logic Audio as a compositional tool.” Pretty sure it also has guitars. The still-untitled record is due October 3.
  • Apparently, technology marches on. And artists like Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent and Death Cab for Cute are taking advantage by releasing videos and videos and more videos

I really don’t mean to be a dick, but… I’m pretty sure Trail of Dead is ready to put out their fourth album, not their third.

If I’m not mistaken their discography goes as follows: Madonna (2000), Source Tags & Codes (2002), and Worlds Apart (2005).

And another minor complaint. I mean theres already too much arguing about genres to make anyones head spin… but are Trail of Dead really Noise Rock when you consider the ultra-unlistenability of Lightning Bolt, Hella, Parts & Labor, and Wolf Eyes. Jesus, compared to them Trail of Dead sounds like angry Kelly Clarkson with splashes of David Bowie with the amps turned to 11.

Either way, thank you for such wonderful news. And I can see how u can make that mistake– Madonna isnt that well known… but it’s only one of the best albums of the last ten years!

Another complaint….what’s with the shot at Henry Rollins “in other news he has a show”? Was this a backhanded compliment or a straight forward critique? His show’s been on the air for a while and is one of the most INTERESTING things ON tv….he gets great guests and the musical performances are full of people who don’t get enough airplay, recent guests include Damian Marley, Dino Jr, Frank Black…do i need to go on???

Yeah, I was gonna say something like: “Trail of Dead… Noise rock? WTF?” But then I saw somebody already did that…
