Film Preview: “The Last Days of Left Eye”

Emotions ran high at a recent preview of The Last Days of Left Eye, by director Lauren Lazin of Tupac Resurrection fame. We watched it in the same room as members of the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ family at the Voice of Color film series in New York. “It was finished 12 hours ago,” said Lazin, “the family hasn’t even seen the final edits.” Drawing from home video footage from the last thirty days of Lopes’ life, the film follows the TLC member as she takes a month-long spiritual retreat with friends and family in Honduras. Also at the screening were members of the group Egypt (since renamed Brown Egypt), who were survived the car accident that killed Lopes. “We’re sad and nervous to see what’s gonna happen,” said one member of Egypt at the preview, “Our injuries have healed, and it’s been a bumpy road, but we made it.” Last Days of Left Eye is slated to be aired this fall on VH1.
