Panic! At the Disco: Smash or Trash? It’s a Staff Debate

6/30/06, 11:08 am EST

Panic! At The Disco are not going away: The Las Vegas punk-pop band are inching up the Soundscan charts every week, and six months now they could easily be where their mentors Fall Out Boy are now – that is, big as all hell. But are they good for rock? We sent two Rolling Stone staffers – contributing editor Jenny Eliscu and Rock and Roll Daily writer Elizabeth Goodman – to a Panic show at New York’s Nokia Theater this week, and this exchange ensued:

Elizabeth Goodman: Their live show is really outer-limits in terms of theatrics. This is a band that, at the age of twenty, on their first record, is bold enough to take an intermission in the middle of their show to change costumes, and the fans just eat it up.

Jenny Eliscu: Their performance was like a Six Flags theme park, Las Vegas-cheesy version of a rock show. It’s mostly just smoke and mirrors and make-up and hairdos to distract you from the fact that they’re not playing that well together and that their songs aren’t all that catchy or interesting. The closest thing they have to a real hook is “closing a goddamn door.”

EG: I love the fact that they take themselves so seriously they thought it was OK to cover Radiohead’s “Karma Police.” The fact that they’re humorless is what makes them so endlessly amusing to me. They don’t second-guess themselves. That’s part of why teenagers love them so much. Every time [singer] Brendon Urie swears, you can tell all the girls are like, ‘Omigod, he’s so baaad!’ You could say it’s mall-ish, canned rebellion, but I think they believe they’re doing something meaningful and their fans do, too

JE: If you want to be pros, you need to learn to change your costumes faster. Because Britney would never do that. She’d be gone and back in a flash. She’d have people to rip off her old costume and slap the new one on. They need to invest in that instead of fake trees and grease paint.

EG: I hear you, but I still had fun. For instance, I love Tapes N Tapes, but there’s nothing to watch at their shows. And people like to have stuff to watch.

JE: You could take away the theatrics in a Marilyn Manson show or a My Chemical Romance show and you’d still have great songs. Panic’s songs are just unconvincing – so all you’re left with is high-budget Hot Topic crap that takes emo excess to it’s most extreme. It’s extremo!

This is ridiculous. Rolling Stone is now pretty much just a magaizne saying anything teens like is ‘bad’ or ‘pretentious’ or ’smoke and mirrors’, and that it shouldn’t be taken seriously. Panic at The Disco are an amazing band, their second album is not to be believed it is so awesome, and their first one may be more ‘emo’, but god, just get over it!

WTF!, panic at the disco are great, unlike other bands they can go out of there element, brendon uries voice has developed over the last few years, ryan ross is a pretty good guitatist and spencer is a great drummer, they have alot of pop in them, some punk, but they can also perform classic rock, and bring back glimpses from the beatles era. panic arent the best, but they are very talented so don’t hate them lol :P

Panic at the disco is the worst musicians I have ever heard. PATD and Hedley and Fall out boy knowq absoultly nothing about real music. Listen to some Rush or Van Halen ” hence my name, lolz”, The Police,…… Real music is becoming increasingly hard to find with all these poser bands out there.

Nicole | 11/12/2008, 9:10 pm EST

PS, people. Grammar much? If you want to get your point across, most people ARE here to read it. So… make sure it’s actually legible :)

Nicole | 11/12/2008, 9:06 pm EST

Wow, this here has created a rather large (and in some cases, heated) argument.

Frankly, I think they’re alright, it’s very catchy and sounds interesting.

But on the down side, I can only listen to it when I’m in a really good mood, and even though I like the sound, I can’t really respect them since most of lyrics are taken from other people’s originality.

I mean, they admit to it, so its alright. I know its the 2000s and it seems like everything that can be said with music has been…. but that doesn’t mean everything you say has to be be stolen from Chuck Palahniuk or the movie ‘Closer.’

Well, Chuck gets 21 cents every time a Panic song plays on the radio anyway, so I’d suppose he doesn’t mind….

In the end, the band is alright, they just don’t have what it takes to be one of MY favorite bands.

Ellie (: | 11/9/2008, 1:20 pm EST

Panic are amazing
Say whatever you want about them
It doesn’t change anything for me
Keep in mind please they’re TWENTY AND TWENTY ONE!
They’re still maturing and learning more about music.
All legendary bands have grown and got better over a number of years. The fact that Panic has gotten so far so fast is amazing and these guys must have some talent to pull that off!
I love them. Their old stuff is so different to their new stuff and I think that just proves that they must be extremely talented to pull off so extremely different genres.
Yet again; keep in mind- they’re only 21!! They’ll be around for a lot longer and I’m sure will make even more amazing music!

Panic is amazing. But I knew every word of their songs BEFORE I saw a picture of Brendon Urie. They’ve gotten so mainstream now because of him- all these girls who don’t leave home without a moose on their ass screaming “I LOVE YOU BRENDON”, drowning out the fact and proof that they actually are, indeed, and excellent band. The posers need to leave. Now.

Pepechooboo | 9/26/2008, 12:33 am EST

I have to say they’re one of the worst bands I’ve had the displeasure of listening to. Their music is very simple and boring and is incredibly stereotypical of all these shitty bands in this rotting music scene in America. You can probably throw a rock out your window and hit someone who can learn one of their songs in 2 minutes. They seem to be in it for the money but thankfully they wont be around much longer I think…

Young-old rocker | 9/22/2008, 7:00 am EST

Panic at the Disco give me the sh#@s, just as Fall Out Boy, Kiss Chassy (how ever you spell it) and all those other emo crap. It ain’t punk, because punk is rebelious, and means freedom of music, which Panic at the Disco clearly does not adopt. They’re a bunch of corporte-voice-editing-musicle ss-sell outs. NO SKILL, NO ROCK, and even not pop because if The Beatles are pop then pop is’nt what these emo bands are. They all fit into the genre of ‘crap’, nothing more, but pleanty less.
MUSIC SHOULD BE ART, NOT A SKILLESS AND CORPORATE ENTERPRISE.

Alanna | 9/21/2008, 3:50 pm EST

I LOVE PANIC AT THE DISCO!

THEY ARE AWESOME!

steve | 4/22/2008, 9:40 pm EST

The reason people don’t like them so much is because they are shoved in the face’s of people who don’t think they are that talented, and it gets annoying. Its just simply that they are overplayed.

Honestly they aren’t that bad, I’ve heard way worse, and my first band was far worse. Their music is pretty simple, and none of them are remarkably talented musicians, I bet their drummer has no flipping Idea who Billy Cobham is. They sound like a mediocre high school band that has been caught on to by record companies because they know what sells.

Panic at the whatever is the most awful band I’ve heard in my short life. The Sound like Fall out boy(which also suck) and they steal the Killers look! These guys have been copying the Killers style since they first came out and it annoys me because all these little girls are saying…like omg their style is so original!!! Yeah, honey Brandon Flowers wore that a month ago! That aside, they really don’t have any good songs that are meaningful. It’s all intended for 13 year olds who think this is good rock and roll. Now, i’m not a music elitist but i can see when a band can play or not. I would never pay any money to see these guys.

Michelle | 4/11/2008, 11:46 pm EST

Opinions differ and not everyone is going to like this band, and I can understand why people don’t. But I don’t understand why people have strong hate feelings for any band; if you don’t like them just don’t listen. People who bash bands seem like they have something to prove; they want to convince others that they are right. It really is immature. And for the critics, just because they say something doesn’t mean it is true. They are just people with opinions too. It is all based on personal taste.

As for Panic!, I think their first cd is very diverse. It is a concept album, and it works. They really play up the carnival theme, and the electronics give the album something different from the typical rock formula. Are they the best band of all time? No. But they add some fun to the usually dark/depressing tone of rock music.
I’m a fan. And I consider “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out” to be one of my favorite concept albums, because every song on the album is good, and nowadays that is hard to come by.

J.J. | 3/15/2008, 5:17 pm EST

I Hate Panic, there just another band in the new wave of alternative music. That blocks any chance of a music revolution. Their music sucks, their annoying when I try to find good alternative bands like Nirvana on the radio, and Brendan Urie can’t hold a hight note to say his life, espically live in concerts. Finally in my opinion their music has written both “sins and trageties” to the world of rock music.

Definetly not "Ms Urie"idoits | 2/13/2008, 6:54 pm EST

I was shocked when I listened to and saw the video for Nine in the afternoon. To sum it up neatly and in a bag:

wth.

Was brendan urie writhing on a bedroom floor?
Maybe, I think I blocked it out…

mia | 2/6/2008, 11:23 pm EST

it’s sad how sleazy rock critics rip apart talent only to make themselves sound elusive and esoteric. The truth is these two know-it-all’s have less talent in their whole bodies than ryan ross has in his pinky finger, which is why they are rock writers and not rock stars. And if talent bashing is the only way they can feel better or validate themselves, we must let it be. Ryan Ross is a genius and Brendon Urie has the voice of a god. Here’s to good modern music, and fans, we must try to understand and forgive the deep rooted sense of inadequacy that makes patronizing old fogies like these two critics write reviews such as this.

Some Dead Poet | 1/14/2008, 10:31 pm EST

I think both lovers and haters of Panic at the Disco are both losing the point:

This debate is not about how this band dresses or who their fans are or how old they are or how attractive/unattractive their members are, or any of that stuff.

It is about their music.

I like their music. No, they’re not the greatest band of all time, but if you only listened to the greatest band of all time (whoever it may be), your CD rack wouldn’t be very diverse or interesting, would it?

I don’t have a problem with anyone who doesn’t like Panic at the Disco, but I do have a problem with people who are convinced that they listen to “better” bands just because they are NOT Panic at the Disco, and that they are “better” people for doing so. Same to Panic at the Disco fans who are convinced that by listening to Panic at the Disco, their music choice is “better” and they are also “better” people. Neither side is justified.

And to the person who said their lyrics are “copied”: They’ve said their songs came from those books. It’s not a secret.

Indie.Omfg.Angel | 1/10/2008, 7:14 pm EST

Well, if you dislike Fall Out Boy, you would probably hate Panic! At The Disco. Of course their debut album was of high Fall Out Boy-esque concentrate. The band members are about 20ish and susceptible to outside influences. I do believe though, that after such backlash from critics, they’ll quit this test-drive like stage and find their own identity. Please remember, this is a debut album you’re critiquing. =]

vicky | 1/8/2008, 11:41 pm EST

i think you are wrong saying panic is a bad band and most of you are too youngs to be critics. i’m a big fan of them and i think the emo label is stupid and don’t respect what we used to call music, and yeah this IS music actually. i love this band and fall out boy, and think that ryan ross and pete wentz (lyricist) do an excelent job. the fob lyrics are amazing, and panic have great ones like nails for breakfast nails for snacks, which is definitely my favourite of them. now until my dog know i write sins not tragedies, but i think its that song isn’t too good. they do a great job, and know what they do.

brendon’s voice is amazing, i know they don’t sound as good as the cd on stage but in one video i have of the song build god then we’ll talk (live) brendon do an incredible job you know. in my opinion they are an excelent band.is very easy being critics with the eyes before being with the ears. in a few months their next album is going out and we’re going to see if they’re as good as you want or expect of them.

Joe | 1/4/2008, 4:58 pm EST

Besides Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco might be the worst band in the world. Their lead singer’s voice is annoying, the guitarist is plain out bad, and the rest of the band isn’t very impressive either. If you want to listen to real rock music listen to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Nirvana, Metallica, ect… not one of these Hot Topic, make-up wearing, sugar coated boy bands.

Spring | 1/3/2008, 7:02 pm EST

The title of this article is Panic! at the disco: Smash or Trash? It’s a staff debate.
key word DEBATE.
The purpose of this is to bebate whether or not P!ATD are a good band or not.

I would like to say something towards everyone who says Ryan is an amazing writer.
no.
he’s not.
The only difference between martyrdom and suicide is the amount of press coverage.
That is straight out of a Chuck Palahniuk Novel.
The Song “A Time To Dance”
That entire song is about the novel “Invisible Monsters” by Chuck Palahniuk.
The majority of their lyrics are lifted out of his novels.
their lyrics are not original at all.

Plus, they sound like a million other bands out there.
their sound is completly unoriginal.

But i do admit, i am a fan of theirs, and i do enjoy listening to their music.

and on their next album i would really like to see them with more original lyrics and a more original sound

Ally | 1/2/2008, 8:15 pm EST

well i love their music and i think they are a good band…they are working hard right now to get higher and higher onto the charts. Give them some time, gosh, they’re young and you cannot expect them to be #1 so instantly…it takes freakin time. They play the greatest songs ever and I totally support them whether you guys like it or not. They are a good band! Give them a chance and you’ll see.

mad127 | 12/11/2007, 2:02 pm EST

I’m not a teen or even 20 something. I’ll say this. Panic has the most interesting lyrics I’ve come across in a while from any band in wide release. The theatrics, well, who doesn’t enjoy a good show. I think this band has talent. It’ll be interesting to hear what they do next. Also, as infinitirkage posted, there are two other members, and I think Spencer Smith is an excellent drummer. The emo, scene stuff, who cares? Trends come and go. If Ryan Ross can keep writing lyrics that are at the very least engaging, I’ll keep listening because, unfortunately, that seems a rare thing these days.

PaNiCLUVR | 12/10/2007, 4:01 pm EST

I Think Panic! is FUCKING
AWESOME!!!!!!!!
If you dont like their music 2 f ing bad All of you guys who dont like P!ATD should just go die I mean Honely why go on this site to talk bullspit about them.

I think its redonkulous and you guys need to grow the fucking hell up.

I LOVE U
Brendon,Ryan,Spencer,Jon
Keep it up!!!!

Matt | 11/26/2007, 5:52 pm EST

This band is unoriginal and untalented. Being 19 and putting out a cd is not accomplishment. Dave Grohl and John Frusciante put out cds at a very young age and our both more talented then anyone in this band. People like me voice our opinions in bands like this because we are forced to listen to it. I’m sick of more talented and hard working bands not being noticed. I’m sick of the radio stations giving into a nation wide guideline of what songs they should play. Believe me I would love to ignore this band, but it doesn’t help when the radio decides to change formats in favor of playing this type of music.

Furthermore writing songs on computers with Pro- Tools isn’t talent, anyone could do it. If you want to hear a band that played every instrument to it’s potential and has some of the best instrumentation ever, then listen to Failure.

Termite | 11/18/2007, 6:10 pm EST

panic at the disco is kool. these boys r young, sure theve made some mistakes, but they arent perfect, and you arent perfect either. you have to be a robot to be perfect. they are just human, anyway i think P!ATD is way better than some other “new” bands i have heard on the radio, some new bands have to be some of the most discusting music i have ever heard. i am a hater of all these “new” bands, but i personally think Panic is a great band and very talented to use so many instruments. another thing is their music videos, Panic’s videos are marvelous, enchanting! I seriosuly hate the bands that in their vids they are in a room and they play the song just mpving their fingers, pertending to “play” New bands are PATHETIC but Panic has inpressed me.

johhnyxchemical. | 10/26/2007, 4:24 pm EST

i admit that i do list to Panic! At The Disco on occasion. I find their style sincerely unique at times (Build God, Then We’ll Talk is an amazing example) but their lyrics can become annoyingly redundant. They also seem to use much to many big words just for the sake of sounding witty or intellegent.
& if you don’t like them please just go away. no cares how you hate “emo” simply because its not you’re definition of what “real” rock is. people will listen to them regardless of your dumbass comments.

Ally | 10/8/2007, 3:06 am EST

Does anyone else think it’s weird and fucked up that these guys take all of their song titles from other shit? I’ve found like 5 or 6 instances of that so far…
It just sucks so bad that they’re taking things that are cool and underground and throwing them out into the mass stream of media in such an empty and vapid way. Even their whole fashion thing, that whole circus/berlesque genre. It’s cool, an aesthetic I appreciate without overprocessed music and lyrics that take themselves too seriously. I read on Wikipedia that they’re covering “This is Halloween” from A Nightmare Before Christmas. What a parallel that is. TNBC is an awesome movie, very original and with great art direction. But then it was mass-merchandised through Hot Topic and a bunch of children who don’t quite know what they’re doing yet picked it up, because it has skulls in it, and that’s really badass. Oh and by the way, the purpose of these comments is to debate whether or not the band is good. We couldn’t really do that if only fans posted, now could we…

raplhie | 10/7/2007, 6:59 pm EST

Does nobody realize that the whole point of this article is to debate whether or not Panic at the Disco is a good band despite their success. Hell, the title of the article is “Panic! At the Disco: Smash or Trash? It’s a Staff Debate.” The comment section allows people to agree or disagree with the writers’ comments. In other words, the entire point of a comment section is to argue over the article. This section isn’t only for people who like the band, its also for people who don’t like them.

Amy | 8/17/2007, 1:00 am EST

Okay. First, I’d like to say that I am fourteen years old, and I listen to Panic! at the Disco. However, I agree with the people below me that have said that this argument is essentially pointless. People like different kinds of music. Enough said. You’re going to have a very hard time forcing someone to like a genre of music that just doesn’t appeal to them. No matter how much you try to influence that person, it’s highly unlikely that their tastes will change. Personally, I like many types of music. I enjoy listening to classic rock, but I also like a small number of the newer bands, such as Panic!. However, no matter what you say or show to me, I’m never going to like rap, because I simply dislike the genre. Guess what? I’m not going around to sites bashing that genre of music just because it does not appeal to me. Just leave the fans alone!

Anyway, there’s two dominating viewpoints from the people that have posted below me: the “I hate Panic! and all new ‘rock’ bands because they’re not all about insane guitar riffs, sex, and drugs” group, and then we have the “OMG i lyke totally LUV brendon urie he is so freaking hot i’m gonna mary him lyke omg ryan ross is hott to there the bestest bnd in the wurld!!!!” group. Personally, I think those people need to just stop arguing… The people who hate Panic! for not being all badass or whatever need to move on, listen to the music they like, and stop trying to convince others that a band they like is terrible. On the other hand, pretty much every single person who has commented about liking Panic! at the Disco has said something about how Brendon Urie looks. I want to ask those people how exactly do they expect Panic! to lose their reputation of being liked almost exclusively because of their looks, when they make idiotic comments like that? Their comments are only encouraging the haters, and making people like me angry. If you’re going to listen to a band, listen because you think their music is good, not because you think the way the lead singer looks is good.

My God, I’ve written an essay for a comment…

everybodyshutupshutupshutup!!! | 8/5/2007, 4:40 pm EST

WOULD YE LISTEN TO YOURSELVES???

I love Panic!. I enjoy their music and it makes me happy. Different things appeals to different people. That’s what makes life so interesting. Who cares what the hell genres bands are classified as??? people have different opinions about that too.

All you so called Panic! haters need to grow up.

We don’t go around trashing other bands because we think our
taste is ‘better’. There is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’, just different points of view.

If you don’t like it don’t listen. It doesn’t take a genius.

Go listen to you’re music and let other people listen to theirs without trying to bring them down.

Stop being so fecking pompous, opinionate, pig-headed and ignorant.

… rant over.

I’m not a “scenester” or a shallow fangirl at all, and I enjoy listening to P!ATD. I like them because I like their sarcastic lyrics and catchy tunes. That’s it. End of story.

There’s no point in arguing over music taste. Everyone has a different opinion. I don’t care if you’re in a “super-awesome band” that could “totally kick P!ATD’s ass.”

Get signed, prove yourselves, have fun, be safe, and live a good life.

The fact will still remain that I find P!ATD’s music catchy, and you can’t change that. That’s life.

YOU SAID :

JE: You could take away the theatrics in a Marilyn Manson show or a My Chemical Romance show and you’d still have great songs. Panic’s songs are just unconvincing – so all you’re left with is high-budget Hot Topic crap that takes emo excess to it’s most extreme. It’s extremo!

Why you work for rolling stone when you think that My Chemical Romance, and Marilyn Manson create wonderful music is most certainly a mystery. My Chemical Romance sings about Jr. High, and High School. How old are they? Their guitar riffs, at best, are decent. And Marilyn Manson — he’s had approximately two good songs. Over how many years?

Listen, I’m not some thirteen year old screaming fan. I’m twenty-two, and happen to hear this music for what it really is. It’s talent, and it’s money. I’ve honestly believed from day one that Panic! has cashed in on the whole ‘emo’ and ’scene’ thing, but honestly does that shit really exist anymore? No. No it really doesn’t. I bought into it. Back in the late 90s and eary 2000-2003. I started a few emo bands, dyed my hair black, and made it all messy, and such, but it’s over. When you take away Panic!’s largest fan base (Jr High and High School girls), and all of the theatrics that come along with that, you still have good, catchy, music. Whether you like the fading scene they represent or not, you will enjoy their music. I promise.

b | 5/26/2007, 8:02 pm EST

trendy hot topic/mtv garbage for “scenester” 14 year old girls and their swoosh-over haircut, “punk rawker” boyfriends. this is the polar opposite of rock and roll. bands like this are why it’s embarrassing to like music anymore.

and for the record, those of you who mentioned age… people tend to be themselves and stop trend-hopping when they become a bit older, something you 15 year old dumpster sluts and “scenesters” don’t fully grasp.

I’m a big fan of classic rock from the 60’s and 70’s, but I enjoy most types of music. I would love to see Hank Williams kick the singer from fall out boy’s ass. Drugs Sex and Rock and Roll. They are my favorit band!! fall out boyy is my second favorit, but like they are soo diff. like they sound nothin alyk. but im weird like that, i like evrything. xcept U2. they make no sense to me. my rents like them somehow, but bono is a cutee. lol. haha ;) evry1 is saying that P!ATD sux but i just cant imagine wat the world would be like without their super good songs. GAH | 2/28/2007, 8:25 pm EST

its BRENDON not brandon, i dont even like them and i know that.

hmm | 2/28/2007, 8:19 pm EST

they arent doing anything new or unique, pop-punk and a turn of the century theme. both have been done before, many, many times before.

J to the Oe | 2/26/2007, 9:07 pm EST

well, I’ve heard people talk about how “amazing” or “talentled” brendon and ryan are. what about the other 2. this band is so based on looks its insane. its so based on image people acctualy stoped judging the music. i mean really. i thought fall out boy was bad in the image thing, but at least they dont cover-up there sucky-ness with theatrics like panic do. and honestly, i looked up the tab for almost all of their songs, nothing special no amazing mind-boggling riffs just a bunch of power chords and synth. and for those of you who are saying they are only 20, screw that, being young doesnt make up for not having talent. I’m 14 and could play those songs easy. really its nothing special just another shitty band that looks good, so duh MTV and all its girl-fan followers love them.
in this modern world its “screw talent the fronman is hot”
it sickens me

mela | 2/19/2007, 9:37 am EST

I just want the quest. everyone is bondering: is brendon going out with ryan?

maryanne | 2/18/2007, 1:02 pm EST

panic! rocks…end of story! if you all hated them so much why spend the time to write a comment about them! ur just jealous, get over it! they’re good, they make great music, and they sound amazing together on stage! so SUCK IT!

panic!z girl | 2/15/2007, 6:46 pm EST

the fact that they arnt even 20 is so amazing and if people dont like them then dont go to their show and say it was crap!!!!!!!!
they are 1 of the best bands around and cant be compared to other bands because their style is just so new and unique
they are really a great band i love them

Lale | 2/11/2007, 2:18 pm EST

I think your discussion is really stupid. Every person likes another kind of music, out of different reason. For example: I like to sing, I used to sing in a rockband, in a choir and also in our school big band. All these are very different kinds of music, but everyone has its positive and negative aspects. This all influences the music I listen to, when I listen to music, I like it, if the textes are good and the singer has a good voice (these are only a few aspects, but the most important). But there are other people, who play the guitar and so they look for songs, where the guitar is good to hear and plays an important role. That really shows, why different people listen to different kind of music.

Now something about PATD. I think they are doing very well. Their music is a kind of crossover, there are many electronic elements, but the voice isn’t electronic changed. They mix very different genres , for example: electronic, some kind of techno, classic and above all rockmusic. I think that this is very cool and I also think, that some people don’t understand, because of prejudices and not-understanding not-thinking about other kinds of music.

P.S.: I’m sorry for the spelling mistakes and so on, english is really not my native language(I’m German) ;-)

alexis [ryan the ross] | 2/11/2007, 1:23 am EST

see you april 29 at san diego, ca.
no wait thats fall out boy, dang it!
they so rock hard like u!

alexis [ryan the ross] | 2/11/2007, 1:21 am EST

i really think that panic!’s music is really great. i mean really. i dont know why you hate them. most guys hate them cos they’re jealous. they are jealous that the fact of brendon and ryan are really young, talented, kick ass singers, and cute. and people cant just stick it in there heads that they arent emo! theyre like the new modern rock to me. a lot of people think its modern, too. even ryan ross thinks that. he thinks his music is like that. but people cant understand and it upsets me. why do u care about them if u hate ‘em so much? dont go ahead and comment if u think they suck. jealousy is just a way of showing you dont have a life.
you say,” bring it!!!!”
i’ll say,”suck it!”

see ya! love u ryan

Tom | 2/4/2007, 10:24 am EST

Hi everybody. This band is a joke.

I’m 14 years old and I can play guitar better than those pieces of shit, the drummer in my band rocks, and the bassist in my band sucks but is still better than their bassist!

My brother, who’s 16, has a band too. They write all their own songs and they’ve been playing their instruments since they were like 8 years old. They rock PATD so hard and they’re like 4 years younger.

The reason “old” people hate PATD, is because when you get older you get smarter. Adults are smarter than you little pricks, and they have a much better taste in music because of that.

You people should listen to Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend, Victor Wooten, anyone who can actually play their instruments, then you’ll never listen to PATD again.

Wait…yes you will…you’re all dumbass little scenesters

mercutio | 1/27/2007, 3:15 am EST

hey, just had to say that these guys aren’t bad. I think it’s amazing how young they are and how mature their music sounds. I feel like so many of you are “haters” of this band because you are so concerned about the “scene.” I mean honestly, no, they are not writing world changing music, but are the songs catchy? yes… is it entertaining music? yes… and that is all music has to be: entertaining. So, relax and stop saying they suck b/c of what every immature, underdeveloped, opinion you have. Not everyone is a Kurt Cobain or the Beatles, and Panic certainly is not, but they do make entertaining music that is fun to listen to. I mean geez, you “haters” are so dramatic, some might mistake you for “emo”

annushka | 1/25/2007, 1:51 pm EST

theymakeoutbackstage | 1/19/2007, 3:57 pm EST

has anyone noticed everyone who said they were awsome also said omg, luv, fav or have spelled somthing like “at” wrong…wow. they also claim everyone who hates them must be old, im not old, I’m 13 I’m most likey younger then you and i still have more of a brain, shocking. they are just riding MTV’s hype of “emo” when they arent emo none of the bands mtv claims are emo are acctualy emo what next paris hilton goth? i agree with the person below me they are sellouts, they are also riding MTVs little hype of the 30’s with all the teatrics and dancers like everyother MTV artist just a trend and who cares if their 20? i know of 15 year olds who make better music then that.
mtv ruins all good things
bad things too like PATD.

fuck_them | 1/19/2007, 3:33 pm EST

First of all they are not emo learn what emo is. But that’s not saying there good they just aren’t emo. they are some of the biggest sellouts ever and those 12 year old girls who thin they were “indie” when they were first on TRL are just little puppets to MTV now I will admit I like 1 or two of the songs but only because some of the rhythms get stuck in your head there’s nothing really special about the lyrics another teenage complaining about how he is just that.
I went to a live show because they were touring with bloc party (bad move on bloc party) bloc party wasn’t there because of health issues witch sucks but patd did put on quite a show with the dancing and the lights but the music was put far back on the to do list. Now I will say I’m young compared to most panic! Haters but i’m just as much one. Let’s say hatred of a band should not be based on age. (and for those also young people who agree with me on the age thing they say fall out boy is their favorite band fuck them their no better then the panic! at the disco fans). If you watch some of their interviews online or TV or wherever you will really notice that they are sellouts they take no humor and seem miserable like they should be back on their bus sleeping and ignoring their fans.

tman | 1/17/2007, 4:08 pm EST

o ya go listen to chiodos/underOATH/Escape the Fate/Enter Shikari
they own “PATD”

tman | 1/17/2007, 4:00 pm EST

wtf how can u like there shity-ass music
if u heard them live like at the mtv moovie awrds u no that they suck ass and that they just to a whole crapload of editing to make themselves sound good. that singer prick even skips like half the crap in that 1 weddings song
if u listen to these people u are GAY

Chuck | 1/16/2007, 9:47 pm EST

Someone below put my thoughts perfectly into words.

What does it mean when all the current bands are using the same motif? You know the one; ballrooms, costumes, turn of the century (19th to 20th) fashions, etc.

I’ll tell you what it means, Panic! is just another band flying the banner of emo, or whatever it is. Goddamn, grow some balls.

Would Kurt Cobain or John Bonham or Chuck Berry write a song whining about “writing sins, not tragedies.”? Hell no! They would whip out their cocks on the table, say “there it is”, and drink down another Jack on the rocks!

Thats whats wrong with popular music these days. No balls. All threatrics, all image, very little substance.

All these bands from Las Vegas that got popular last year can suck my wang. They are destroying rock and roll, and leaving a makedup, whiny corpse behind.

Rock and roll needs aggression, drugs, risk, violence, mysoginy, sex, and a grounding in reality to work. Panic! fails on all counts.

lolz | 1/15/2007, 12:11 am EST

ms urie | 7/6/2006, 5:56 pm EST

panic! at the disco is a great band and their lyrics are meanigful…somthing you dont see as much…ryan wrote them for his dad in the hospital. i definetly would like to see them cause i seriosuly am so obsessed and i am marrying the singer brendon urie…hes only protraying a bad boy image…i can tell hes soft at heart
when he sings he sings it with like a passion and he means what hes singing…for all the haters(so not me)listen to the whole album and ill start to make sense…and remember there 19

love you brendon

Yeah, aren’t you just a bright ray of sunshine. Learn English, prz.

negative_trend | 1/12/2007, 9:41 pm EST

The problem with Panic! at the Disco is not that they lack talent, per se. Brendon Urie does know how to sing, Ryan Ross is at least marginally more literate than the average guy his age and the members know how to play their instruments.

The problem is, they just don’t know how to write a good song. Jenny Eliscu was right: Beyond the theatrics, there’s nothing really remarkable about them.

Ben | 1/12/2007, 7:42 pm EST

haha… who do these people think they are saying that the people who think Panic sucks are old… I’m 15, and I absolutely despise those idiots… and if you think they deserve where they are…listen to some Indie bands that obviously have 500 times as much talent as them… some of you may argue Fueled By Ramen is an indie label… try watching MTV, there have been about 5 bands from that label on there, notably Fall Out Boy, Panic!, Cobra Starship, and The Academy Is… those bands all pretty much suck, except for The Academy is, they still haven’t sold out, try listening to a band such as The Confession, they’re about the same age, on an Indie label that is owned by Warner Brothers, about the most words they ever force into a line is 8… and their shit is deep… I mean wtf is Panic thinking by writing shit that can be summed up in around 6 words…but they take more like 20, oh and for you who think they are punk… you are just idiots… that isn’t punk, that is emo… not even punk/emo… it is just fucking emo music..that sucks

theyjustsuckokay | 1/11/2007, 11:58 am EST

i bet they all do each other backstage

Jon M | 1/10/2007, 5:38 pm EST

music changes, I know. but there’s this little thing called talent that Panic at the Disco, in its entirety, lacks. from song-writing, every song consisting of two verses repeated 6 or 7 times. to musicianship, heavy studio work and pitch correction. all the way to the live show which is a mockery of what a good band is. you go to shows to be entertained yes, but you go to a concert to listen to music and paying $150 to go see a bunch of flamers playing shit music, is complete nonsense. from what i hear N*Sync had a good live show, does that meant they are musicians? no. they wrote music to please 12-14 year old girls who thought it was sooooo meaningful. and they did…they sold a shit load of records. what im saying is that Panic at the disco is a fad band because they lack talent and once people actually realize this they will join the backstreet boys and nsync with worthless corporate shit bands that sold out to sell records.

Joe_Momma13 | 1/9/2007, 1:38 am EST

Dudes, Panic! At The Disco freakin rocks! And those of you who disagree can suck butt! My top three favorite bands would have to be:
1)Panic! At The Disco (DUH!)
2)The Killers
3)Fall Out Boy
But sadly, I have to say that My Chemical Romance and Green Day suck as much as Kevin Federline singing country music.

Delany | 1/5/2007, 6:03 pm EST

panic!at the disco are so hott.brandon has a lot of heart when he sings the songs. No one could beet this at all not even the killers I hate them so bad.listin to the to the album and you will feel good listining to BRANDON voise and RYANS voise.JUST REMEMBER THEY ARE 19 YEARS OLD.

panicatthediscosucks | 1/1/2007, 1:18 am EST

Going on NBC and playing their top hit literally seconds after midnight in Times Square was a pathetic self-aggrandizing move … I don’t think many Americans really want to hear the words “whore” and “goddamn” in the first minute of the New Year. Very poor taste by NBC, but even more classless on the part of Panic and their handlers. I was ambivalent toward them before, but now I flat-out think they’re an embarrassment.

Led Zep | 1/1/2007, 12:19 am EST

Hi. I think they suck ass. They dont play music. They play generic emo and make teenagers like me lose hope in anything that involves bass, drums and guitar. The drummer is mediocre, the bassist sucks, and the singer is a complete rip off of fall out boy’s own vocalist(who also sucks)

Alex Nichols | 12/25/2006, 2:13 pm EST

Panic! At The Disco sucks. They’re trying to be poetic, or unique, or something by squeezing 10 unnecessary words into a line that needed one. Listen to “You Know You’re Right” by Nirvana. Kurt Cobain could get his point across with normal lines that actually fit in the song, and simple(but great) lyrics, without 18 synthesizers on the same crappy MIDI instrument, a crappy drummer, and some idiotic costume that scene kids think is cool.

hi | 12/24/2006, 9:08 pm EST

Panic is good live! And they had jack’s mannequin and cobra starship with them. They could all actually sing i was impressed

/ | 12/24/2006, 9:07 pm EST

Okay seriously people are saying that panic should make room for “real” artists. I mean come on theres barely any out there anymore. Who do think is more real: panic! at the disco or paris hilton/kevin federline?

ellen | 12/22/2006, 1:07 am EST

“Well go ahead and say what you want because we all know that you cna’t seem to break away from the normal scene of what a rock band has to be”

Panic isn’t a rock band. They’re an image, with crappy music ringing the the background.

“i really odnt think you oldish peopple would get punkk stuff so why dont you just go knit or pick up a handicapp sticker or something.”

I’m 15. Panic at the Disco sucks. Teenagers like you are the reason teenagers like me aren’t taken remotely seriously when it comes to music. You can waste your money on their cds and overpriced shows (or download some songs - what a way to support the band you love so much!) but hell, I won’t be the one buying your old posters or ticket stubs on Ebay when this fad is over.

If there’s anything to be said about sterotypes, it’s to never assume every teenage girl likes Panic at the Disco or Fall Out Boy. It’s a true insult.

Katie | 12/21/2006, 8:59 pm EST

People keep saying “you hate panic because you’re too old” ok I’m 16 and I think that panic at the disco sucks. They’re probably the worst band I’ve ever heard. I’ve heard high school garage bands that sound 50 times better than them. And did someone honestly say panic was punk? Pfft. Go listen to the Ramones.

Metalman | 12/19/2006, 10:58 pm EST

Panic!(whats with the “!”?)at the Disco makes me want to regurgitate in disgust. Pantera kicks @$$!!!

maddi | 12/18/2006, 11:56 pm EST

panic rock!!!!
and there concerts just get better and better and the fact they wrote theese songs in high school is pretty amazing!! they bought out there album be4 doing a concert and within a week had sold thousands!!! since there second tour theyve got more props better dancers and a whole different style!! i love them and there defintly my fav band !!!!

klassklown | 12/14/2006, 4:21 pm EST

So for all those people that want to bash Panic! Well go ahead and say what you want because we all know that you cna’t seem to break away from the normal scene of what a rock band has to be. Stop being so damn stereotypical just because they want to bring a little change. Besides if they acted like all the other bands out there you would just still find something negative to say and probably say that they are posers. Ughhh…just grow up. I’m pretty sure that their goal as a band was to be different and not like everyone that came before them.

Kelly mama | 12/10/2006, 5:33 pm EST

omg i love patd!!! they better come out with a second album!!!

Iksmit | 11/28/2006, 11:48 pm EST

Yeah tell you the truth I don’t really care, my only problem with them is the way they have an exclamation mark after Panic so you think you have finished reading, then in comes “at the disco”… It really shits me when people write about this band!

#1fan | 11/27/2006, 8:40 pm EST

I think that the people that don’t like panic! at the disco is because there like 40 years old because one says that he likes country music and the other ones yeah I dilike fall out boy ,My chemical romance but I like better panic! at the disco

#1fan | 11/27/2006, 8:32 pm EST

I love Panic! at disco so much especially I write sins not trageties and It’s better if you do

pk | 11/26/2006, 9:20 pm EST

I hate MTV.

PiFreak | 11/18/2006, 2:09 pm EST

Hay, I jsut wanted to say this. I am a COUNTRY fan. Anything country I will listen to, and can name in about a heartbeat. I also know 80′S music. And you know what? I HATE the new MTV. My dad made tapes of MTV in the 80′S, back when they played MUSIC all day long. So, basically, I don’t listen to any “new” rock, pop, rap, electric, or anything new but country. But you know something, my dad does, and I heard Panic! one time, and loved them. I have done the same with Green Day, The Killers, and lots of other new groups. I think that they have a great chance to really become respected in the music business, instead of being famous. I heard OKGO before I saw their little treadmill dance, and loved them. They don’t need a gimmick to be good, but because they have one, people think that is the only reason they are good. If you want to put down my comment because I like COUNTRY music, go ahead. I really don’t care, I’m only 15, so no one ever listens to me anyway.

hmm well meee | 11/17/2006, 7:57 pm EST

well ya they suck but ryan is hott

will | 11/15/2006, 5:12 pm EST

I’m 31 and i’ve had tickets to 2 panic concerts… one i drive 200+ miles to. I guess i just like “bad things” and i think he’s so cool when he says a cusses.. rofl please rollingstone is terrible. Please kill yourself.

hollyyy | 11/11/2006, 7:27 pm EST

i know they posted it a while ago, but someone named holler said they never worked their way up. but thats definitely not true. i saw them on the nintendo fusion tour even before they were famous. i remember i had to special order drive 30 miles just to pick up the dang cd. they started out just like every other band, but everything just happened faster. i honestly think panic! is one of THE BEST bands i have ever heard, because they are so different. all of these other bands all sound so similar that sometimes its hard to tell any huge difference. but panic! sounds like no other. they are so brave in their music and they do things that i have never heard anywhere else. they may repeat some lyrics, but at least they mean something. ryan ross is an amazing lyricist, because the lyrics arent some crap that talk about childish things. the lyrics deal with real adult issues and it makes me really mad when people say they suck. and gosh people pay attention. they were popular even before mtv. so stop saying mtv built them up or whatever. i have thought they were amazing from the beginning. mtv just knows what is talent. so give panic! a chance and actually listen to the lyrics before saying they have no talent.

moaningbastard | 11/6/2006, 10:56 am EST

holy jesus why is this even a debate. these fuckers are killing rock music.whatever happened to rock musicians with balls. lemmy, kurt cobain, jimmy hendrix, jim morrison, devin townsend, johnny rotten, bob dylan, neil young, robert plant. etc. all of the best rock musicians were charismatic, intelligent, extremely tallented and above all, had balls. i especially hate the way the lead singer forcefully squeezes 23 words into 2 lines. there is absolutley no sutlety to his lyrics. bob dylan could use one simple metaphor to get his point accross.

“I’d chime in with a “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the God’damn door?!”
No, it’s much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.”

jesus christ. study these lyrics. a song should be poetry with a melody. panic at the disco haven’t got a grasp on either.

Elizabeth | 11/6/2006, 12:40 am EST

Panic! At The Disco is complete garbage. Excuse me while I go knit you a noose to hang yourself with while emoing it out.

k thanks bye

ashley | 10/24/2006, 9:13 pm EST

Panic at the Disco has so much talent! just because rolling stones doesn’t like them doesn’t mean their not good! there are so many people that love the music and the band members. i am like their biggest fan! And no one will take away their talent! They have different songs than other people but that’s what makes people love them so much! the music rocks and the lyrics do. They are my favorite band and just because someone like rolling stones doesn’t like them doesn’t mean it will shang my opion. PANIC AT THE DISCO ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

Bri | 10/24/2006, 6:32 pm EST

Listen, I love Panic at the Disco and I admit that they arent as good preforming live but I really like the music. To all the people who dont like their theatrical shows, I think that shows that they put alot of effort into it. To all the people who dont like the make up, it is their style and there is nothing wrong with it. I personally like their makeup, clothes, music, shows and overall style. I dont think any other band that sounds quite like them. They are my favorite band and they are unique. I really don’t think it matters if they were on MTV. IT doesnt change the music, it just changes how they are thought of by people. I can’t stand people who stop liking bands just because they got popular. Again it doesnt change their music. They only have one album out. They could learn from mistakes and could get even better in their next album. Think about that all Panic at the Disco haters.

EddieV | 10/22/2006, 6:21 pm EST

Oh, and Panic at the disco certainly has a LOT of talent. They have enourmous talent in music writing.

EddieV | 10/22/2006, 6:19 pm EST

These posts are ridiculous. Panic at the disco made some good music. Their melodies especially are very catchy, and although it is mostly studio effects and they sound awful live, the music on the album is very easy to listen to and sounds great. Musicians certainly do NOT need to be original (although I think panic is original with their music). Anyway, I’m not sure why so many people are against them, they slapped together this album and it sounds great, get off your lazy @$$ and write your own if you don’t like it.

Calendula | 10/21/2006, 2:31 am EST

So i am a fan. my opinion will be tainted by that. but i’d also like to think of myself as critical.

everything about them, from their music, to their lyrics, to the way they dress, to the way they perform, to their covers, stage precense and interviews impress me. these guys have a long time to develop and they’re off to a good start. i like them because they are different. i like the flamboyance, the ambition (i mean they’re covering bohemian rhapsody). we need artists that are confident enough to do their own thing, whatever that is. they are a good example to other bands top do what they want instead of what a hierachy in a record label tells you.

Anonymous | 10/19/2006, 8:59 pm EST

i think panic! at the disco is cool and sure i like them but they could have done 2 concerts in nz! cause they only done one which driving was 6-8 hours away!

panic! at the disco!

TO DAYS "ROCK" SUCKS | 10/13/2006, 5:41 pm EST

America, i fear you have lost your taste in music and personality. Ask youself this. Why do you like Panic! at the Disco? Is it because they are hot? Is it because MTV brainwashed you with their repetitive piece of crap that they call a song? i mean come on. you people should be listening to people like Death Cab for Cutie, Fountains of Wayne, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Nivana, Modest Mouse or even The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The ramones, The Clash, Rush, etc. I’m only 12 and I can figure out that they suck. yall are 16-25 and you’re stupid enough to believe that these people have musical talent. Musical Talent is something i like to call Guitar Solos that leave you in awe, Vocals that amaze, lyrics that have meaning and relation to normal people. I hate every little thing about Americas pop culture, it only shows that people these days can’t decide things by themselves and they always have to follow the trend.

alysse | 10/8/2006, 3:42 pm EST

ok, i get the whole freedom of speech thing.

i admit that mtv ruins everything, and panic is no exception when i say they are too big to the american masses.

but don’t blame the band.

i mean, look at them, they’re 19 , a house-hold name and doing world tours in less then a year.

they had to had have SOMETHING to do all that.

i think ryan ross’s lyrics are catchy, very personal and plain says , ” FUCK YOU, you are worthless” in a very sarcastic and satirical manner, among other things.

did ANYONE notice that the album is spilt into 2 styles?

did anone notice in awe the piano rifts, the jazzy-feel meeting electronica ?

these guys are smart, regular guys that are straight out of high school, rebelling against their mormon past, and like to make everything sarcastic and blown out of proportion.

they want to make their shows feel like circus meets broadway, and just add more and more to entertain the crowd AND themselves so they won’t get bored with the same 12 songs, and only want to play tribute when they sing “Karma police” and “tonight, tonight” by the smashing pumpkins. sure, it isn’t the best version and brendon kinda takes it over the top, but i respect the gesture and kinda opens the younger kids to a whole genration of music they would otherwise ignore.

the only thing i really hate is people that call them emo, which they are NOT, and the stupid 14 year old girls that ruin everything like the disney channel and like them for the wrong reasons.

the bottom-line is, sure they take alot of influence from the smiths, third eye blind, and what have you, but WHO do they sound like ????

no one.

they are totally unique, and are putting something on the music scene that has yet to have a title or catergory to limit their genius.

do you watch their interviews and shows ?

they are simply entertainers, are good at it in fact, and are not over their heads in fame and glory of being rock-gods.

not to mention how hot they are as well !!!

BRENDON URIE IS MINE, BY THE WAY.

but that’s besides the point.

don’t be so narrow minded and have to label everything,

it never works out these days, all of these new bands are blending different genres, cuz unless you really can play, all of those new bands claiming they’re emo, metal, whatever are dead, playing the same-sounding shit over and over again that was written 10 years ago.

who knows, maybe panic! will become the new sound i am looking for, and will be the start of something great since the beginning of rock n’ roll. they have a long career ahead of them…

and listen to their whole cd, my favorite is “nails for breakfast, tacks for snacks” for various reasons.

pk | 10/8/2006, 2:31 am EST

And, remember it’s half Fall Out Boy’s fault for even listening to the demo. But It’s mostly the band’s fault for even asking them to listen to it. Then they got a little famous on the internet. *cough myspace cough* Then something got them their big break on MTV. I’ve heard of this band before the whole Mtv thing. Don’t call me a hater because I was a fan before they got on mtv. I knew Mtv would ruin that band, Cause they ruin everything. I bet about 90% of their fans heard of them when they got famous. Now they’re just OVERRATED.

pk | 10/8/2006, 2:18 am EST

Either you like them or you don’t.

pk | 10/8/2006, 2:18 am EST

Either you like them or you don’t.

Marah | 10/5/2006, 5:21 pm EST

Yeah, they do wear a lil to much makeup. But brendon is kinda cute.

Marah | 10/5/2006, 5:19 pm EST

Okay, there are some things I agree with… Yes they do have one verse, and one chorus and repeat it too much. That bothers me. But I still like Panic! at the Disco. They are a pretty good band. And just becuz you don’t like them doesn’t mean u have to be rude about it. Just simply state your views and post. No need to swear.

pk | 10/3/2006, 8:25 am EST

They are getting too big anyway.

alanon | 9/24/2006, 5:04 pm EST

when you wear too much make up,
you’re bringing the hype to yourself, and as you can see, it causes trouble.
I know these guys are 20, but heck, arctic monkeys are too in their 20’s and as you can see, they have a genre to stick with, pop-punk..i thought it should never existed

Hoosfoos | 9/23/2006, 12:44 am EST

Studio trickery, pseudo-intellectual lyrics, song titles that desperately try to mimic Morrissey (and fail), and an ultra-whiney singer. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Yuck.

pk | 9/18/2006, 5:38 pm EST

I agree with holler.

holler | 9/18/2006, 5:06 pm EST

just incase no one knows, they dont have any musical range, every song sounds the same, and in ever song there is one verse, and one chorus, and its repeated like 8 times, thats not music, plus they never even played small shows or worked their way through the business, they got lucky when fallout boy decided to listen to a 2 track cd, and then put them through the fallout boy bootcamp….. they suck, they will always suck….. deal with it, plus live they have no stage precense, and are horrible musically live, they are an over-produced band, and a love child from mtv and fallot boy

pk | 9/11/2006, 7:34 pm EST

Sorry for all you guys who like Panic! At The Disco This is my opinion: They are overrated (mainly because of Mtv) and almost everyone seems to like them and their songs are a little
bit overplayed, They are kinda getting to the status which Fall Out Boy got (also mainly because of Mtv). I do like Fall Out Boy though. I’m not trying to criticize them.

randy (i hate panic!) | 9/9/2006, 6:44 pm EST

ok. they are young. maybe when they get older and they actually play instruments they will be good. they suck. they are emo posers. some up there said that we hate them cuz its the cool thing! well u like them cuz its the cool thing. they are gunna be like backstreet boys. everyone loved them. now the people that liked them hate them selves and regret liking them. dont fall into this horible fad. and i went to a concert and they sucked at singing cuz they have no musical talent. but wat really made hate them was when the singer and drummer like made out. they do that so u dont worry about them sucking live. DONT SUPPORT!!!

bowlcutboy | 9/9/2006, 5:18 am EST

panic and fallout boy r just manufactured and they aim their music at teenagers just to sell records. they aren’t even emo. come on people listen to metal!

Pete | 9/8/2006, 10:28 pm EST

makeup and costumes are veils for the simple fact that you can’t play your g*dd@mn instrument…
example: Kiss, Cher, the Killers, must I really go on?

Tim Maedder | 9/8/2006, 11:47 am EST

Uh, Jayla……I’m pretty sure that everyone in that band likes to suck dick. So, yeah….

kritter | 9/7/2006, 10:41 am EST

This is a forum…which means open for discussion. Last time I checked this was the www.rollingstone.com and not the PATD website, which to me means that all readers/listners are welcome to comment and state their opinions. If you only want to read comments from people who share your same views…might I suggest that you hang out on the PATD fan club website.

Peace | 9/5/2006, 9:52 pm EST

I personally LOVE Panic! At The Disco, and I know that Fall Out Boy started them off. . . but that’s their only relationship. I like both bands (P!ATD better, by the way) but they really don’t sound the same. Fall Out Boy has more of a heavy, rock sound but P!ATD is lighter and just fun to listen to. And really guys. . . if you hate a band why are you wasting time talking trash about them? Can’t you spend your time better at like the Hilary Duff fan site? Really. And I’m so annoyed with how nobody thinks any new, original band is any good. Just because they’re young doesn’t mean they don’t know anything. And I agree with whoever says you honestly can’t judge a band by the one or two mainstream hits, you really have to listen to all of their songs. I hate I Write Sins Not Tragedies! Especially because now it’s playing on all the stations, and all the preppy people are like “Panic! At The Disco? I love their song!” It’s like have you even heard of there existing another single before this one reached your ears? And I don’t really think they’re “pop” they’re more like, I don’t know. . . techno/alternative.

Kristen | 9/5/2006, 4:15 pm EST

I can’t exactly call myself a fan, but I have to agree that their songs are quite catchy. As an older listener, I want to find meaning in what these boys are trying to say; but a meaning has eluded me. Is it all just for fun, is there a hidden political message, or am I just too old to understand this emo culture? I do tend to agree that the live performance I saw during VMA’s left little to be desired. I felt like they were spinning out of control and indeed were not playing well together. I want to like this band, but they need to show me a lot more before I will be impressed. They have potential and as they mature into seasoned artists, hopefully their sound and performance will improve as well. For those of you “bashing” the younger generation; I say leave them be. How soon we forget where we came from and where we have been. Few of us still listen to the music we did as preteens and teens…if that weren’t the case I would still have my NKOTB cassette tapes in my car.

Hailey | 9/2/2006, 4:16 pm EST

GUYS LISTEN IF YOU DONT LIKE WHAT THEY R DOIN THEN JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE SO MAYBE THEY DID GET A NEW BASS PLAYER BUT WHO CARES MAYBE IT WAS FOR THE BETTER OF THE BAND MY GOD IF THEY SUCK SO MUCH HOW DID THEY GET VIDEO OF THE YEAR???????????? hAILEY

Kesenai Tsumi | 9/2/2006, 2:54 am EST

jon and tina are probably both right about the lyrics. Hello, Wikipedia.

“All the members of the Nevada-based band Panic! At the Disco are fans of [Chuck] Palahniuk; in fact, three of the songs on their debut album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, are homages to the writer.”

Check these out. Yep.

Bah. People need to accept that other people may like things that they do not. That’s life. Arguements like this, in turn, seem completely pointless. It’s matter of opinion and apparently context, so accept that other people have different opinions and context and move on. -_-

Scope | 9/1/2006, 4:57 am EST

well they seem to wanna get rid of the emo, i saw them at lowlands, and they looked perfectly normal, no weird make up and stuff anyways

Edd | 8/31/2006, 8:06 pm EST

Look, Panic have stolen the emo scence and turned it into teeny pop. Eg NME magazine describes falloutboy and panic as the two ‘emo titans’, this just proves their sellout image, and how people who dont know any better have PATD and FOB as their sterotype emo bands. Well, bands such as Texas is the Reason, Sunny Day real estate, Fugazi, Get-up kids, were making music bedore these idiots even left primary school, and did they ever get any recognition? All PATD and FOB have done is make a cheap imitation of the whole scene into something for 12 year old girls. Im sorry, but PATD, you suck, and those true to the scene, hate you.

okay, um abraham, sweetie, my names ‘tiny tina’.. i guess your spelling skills are about as good as your rediculous taste in music, which is obviously not panic!
oh and since you insist on standing up for jon, you can let him know that i dont care if he’s being sarcastic. if he has anything bad to say about ryans beautiful lyrics, or anything about ryan ross for that matter, he can talk to me about it.

MASSIVE PANIC FAN!! | 8/9/2006, 4:36 pm EST

first off Panic! arent using smoke and mirrors and make-up and hairdos to distract you from the fact that they’re not playing that well together and that their songs aren’t all that catchy or interesting, because they are!! their songs are excellent and if you were young fan like me you would understand that!! you are just a bunch of moaning grumps that cant appriciate todays music scene because you DONT GET IT!! your used to all the oldies! MUSICS CHANGED!! it MODERNISED! so dont go about slagging off Panic! coz to be honest i don’t see you with a record deal and if they were rubbish they wouldnt have one!! and if they were so rubbish pete wentz wouldnt hav driven all the way out to las vegas JUST to meet Panic! because he heard two of their songs (nails for breakfast, tacks for snacks and time to dance) on the internet! also brendon urie swears in the songs because that is how the songs are written!! he doesnt write the lyrics ryan does!! so brendon isnt makeing all that up to impress girls and the lyrics ryan writes are to do with his life expireances!! thank you for reading

higginst | 8/9/2006, 1:29 am EST

I don’t think their age matters… you either got talent or you don’t. I love Fall Out Boy because they came out with a relatively unique style and haven’t let their heads explode with fame. I heard “The Only Difference between…” jeezus can’t even remember the name it’s so god damn long - anyway I actually thought it was a Fall Out Boy song. That’s the only good Panic! song. I heard the rest of their album through a friend and I was surprised, because they are huge on MySpace.com, and NZ radio/television, and I thought it was rubbish.

Oh and Pete from Fall Out Boy is on One Tree Hill, making them so much cooler in my books.

Let’s face it, the cool thing to do is like Panic! At The Disco. You’ll see, they’ll be nobodies in a few years. The punk/emo legends will be Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, AFI…

catie | 8/8/2006, 3:13 pm EST

i took a listen to the panic! at the disco cd before i knew that they look like they live on the set of moulin rouge, before i knew they are only 19 and before i had even hard fall out boy songs on the radio.
and i was impressed.
when i used to listen to my hometown’s top 40s station, all i heard were songs by christina aguilera, mariah carey and james blunt. good god, james blunt. whyyyyy?
but the definition of American pop music is evolving. and i say props to our generation for recognizing that the kind of music panic! is producing is something different from all that “let me take you to the mall and buy you a milkshake” crap.
panic! has taken some risks. and they’ve gotten attention for it. you can either hate them for turning heads, or respect them for having the balls to do it in the first place.

sonia | 8/7/2006, 1:51 pm EST

well tina tina, jon was being sarcastic.

painc are mainstream. take a look at mtv, they are on trl and they are background music to real world

but really, who cares?

they are just a fashion trend and will go away next summer.

tiny tina | 8/3/2006, 5:39 pm EST

p.s… jon, whos comment is like 3 or 4 below mine, would you please get your story straight.
i know FOR A FACT that ryan wrote that about his father. so poor, oblivious, stupid jon, you my friend are dead wrong.
if you knew ryan, he might be able to tell you himself, since you are denying his painful lyrics for what they really are.
sorry, but you really need to get these things right, before you piss the wrong person off, jon!!

tiny tina | 8/3/2006, 5:21 pm EST

first of all, if you were gonna be bitchy from when you hit the parking lot just because you knew these guys were only 19, why the hell did you bother to do a review? give their fake trees and grease paint less attention if they bother you that much.. atleast they care about the entertainment of their fans enough to use that crap. try listening to their music.. and no, i do not mean i write sins, or but its better if you do. everyone knows them, so thats a problem for you i guess. listen to some of their songs that aren’t main stream, and have an open mind for probably the first time in your life. if your so mature, how can you not see how much pride they take in their music at such a young age, and give them credit for it instead of putting them down? they care about how they want their music to sound.. their goal is not to be like friggin fall out boy, and if it was, they would be a little more ‘dance, dance’ and a little less ‘perscribed pills’

im tired of people thinking that just because your young, you cant and wont do anything. they are role models for all of the people who think that of themselves. their doing something they love, and look how far its getting them. as a fan, im proud to even be listening to them.

maybe you should rethink your opinion before shoving it in eveyones face that panic!s songs are ‘unconvincing’. the only thing thats unconvincing is you trying to be taken seriously as a music critic, when all you do is talk trash about the bands.
bitch

panic! fan | 8/3/2006, 5:06 pm EST

P.S. stop hating them because it’s the ‘cool’ thing to do.

panic! fan | 8/3/2006, 11:54 am EST

Ryan Ross did in fact write the lyrics of the song ‘Camisado’ for his hospitalized father. It’s one of the more personal songs on the album for him, because it deals with his father’s constant battle with alcoholism. Maybe everyone who thinks the lyrics suck don’t actually understand what they mean.

Maybe everyone needs to grow the f*ck up and listen to their music. They need to get over the fact that Panic! is labeled as ‘emo’ or ‘pop punk’ Don’t be afraid to listen to them because they’re only 19 years old.

Why the hell does everyone care so much about how they dress. Last time I checked it’s not the clothes writing and making the music, it’s the musicians IN the clothes. No one ASKED you to go see their live show. Get over it.

Another thing, STOP COMPARING THEM TO FALL OUT BOY. Brendon Urie and Patrick Stump’s voices do not sound the same. They may be similar in some ways, but there is a noticeable difference. Listen to more than ‘I write sins not tragedies’ before you make the decision of wether you like them as a band.

Apparently these 19 year olds DO have talent. Last time I checked their DEBUT album had gone platinum. That’s a goal that most bands don’t acheive with their debut album.

jon | 8/2/2006, 2:24 am EST

whoever said that the songs were written about someones father in the hospitalm you are dead wrong. panic takes novels written by chuck palahniuk and turns them into songs. the song about the hospital was based on fight club. a certain song title it copied word for word from another of chuck’s novels. panic is un-original garbage.

DRIPS | 7/28/2006, 10:19 am EST

The Panic at the Disco cd is one of only a few cd’s that I feel I need to make an excuse for owning. Like I grabbed it by mistake or something. No real musician would love them because they aren’t THAT talented. And a live show that relies on costumes and theatrics is not what I define as engaging. I define it as distracting. If want the definition of an honest heartfelt powerful stage presence you should have been around for Bear Vs Shark.

Jimmy | 7/21/2006, 4:36 pm EST

Smash or Trash?
Trash

=D | 7/19/2006, 5:34 pm EST

I recently went to their concert and I was amazed. They sound just as good if not better live, and there show was great. Okay maybe their show was just flashing lights, and smoke, but it wasn’t really the show I cared about. It was that Panic! at the disco was playing live, right in front of me. I do enjoy listening to their music, so whether they put on best show in history or the worst, it wouldn’t matter to me as long as they still sounded good. (& they sounded amazing)
About Fall out boy …. are you actually even going to say that P!atd copies? I mean look at every other band or singer. THEY ALL COPY EACH OTHER! There is no originality in the music business! … Anyway, I don’t think Panic! at the disco is a copy of Fall outboy. I listen to both bands. Yeah the music may sound similar but I find that Panic! at the disco’s style is more cabaret.
I wouldn’t consider Fall out boy or Panic! at the disco rock, or punk rock. To me they just play music that’s fun to listen to. I hate the people who are closed minded when they think about Panic! at the disco. I’m sorry but you can’t just judge a band from one song. If you’ve listened to all there songs and still hate them, I’ll respect your opinion. Many people I know used to think I was wack for listening to this band after they only heard one song from them and totally despised it. Once I’ve gotten them to listen to more songs they love it too. With Panic! at the disco it’s either love it or hate it, if your going to hate it make sure you’ve actually given the band a fair chance.

These guys would not even be successfull if it weren’t for there fanbase which is made up of 13 year old girls. I hate these bands that try to come across like they are deep thinkers. Anyone who really knows music knows that these guys are garabage! The dumbass they have for a lead singer sounds like a whiney bitch?

Evan | 7/14/2006, 7:05 pm EST

Their live performance isn’t very good because they were signed and getting played on MTV before they’d ever played a show or released an album, and their fans eat it up because their fans are mostly teenage freaking girls with a crush.

Timmy Dean | 7/14/2006, 1:00 pm EST

Panic! at the Disco’s songs are certainly catchy until you actually listen to the word and realize that you want to vomit due to how retarded these songs are. If they really wrote the songs for somebody in the hospital, as one of the posts below me says, I feel sorry for that poor hospital patient, as I would never want to have such meaningless sh*t written in my honor.

when he sings he sings it with like a passion and he means what hes singing…for all the haters(so not me)listen to the whole album and ill start to make sense…and remember there 19

love you brendon

Padge | 7/4/2006, 6:05 pm EST

I recently saw PATD live; when a band has to go such excess with their stage show to get their songs across, then the songs cant be that good. Take away the dance troupe who performed with them and all you have is an average band with a bunch of average songs that arent catchy at all.

Katie | 7/3/2006, 9:50 am EST

EmoHater, I’m a teenage girl and the last albums I bought were by Dylan and Cream… so don’t hate on girls! But I must concur that PATD does f***ing suck!

Kettles | 7/3/2006, 1:13 am EST

Panic At the Disco - music? Don’t think so. There is no such thing as pop-punk. Its either one or the other? Gosh…even the spice girls did a better job!

EmoHater | 7/2/2006, 11:22 pm EST

I bet most PATD fans are teenage girls. So, sorry to be insensitive ladies but Noel Gallagher was right: 16 year old girls should not be allowed to purchase records.

Nellie Mckay | 7/2/2006, 10:27 pm EST

I’m better than all these bands put together. Listen to me instead!

jasmine | 7/2/2006, 10:04 pm EST

I’m not a big fan of emo. The fact is their lyrics are just teen angst and highschool girl friends. I understand that music doesn’t need to be serious all the time, but they are not artists they are kids in costumes making money off kids in costumes. They won’t be around for long and are just insulting real artist that don’t get noticed, the fact that this shyt sells makes me sick.

there alright, whatever, they’ll be gone in 1 year, there fun i like a couple of there songs but I mean people who honestly take them seriosuly, come on!

Kitkat | 7/2/2006, 7:33 pm EST

wow….
I mean, wow…
This article makes me want to burn all of my Brothers CDs by theses people. Its ridiculous the number of people who are sucked in by such crappy over the top bands. When its catagorized as “Pop Punk”, its an oxymoron, those two words should NEVER be used to describe the same thing. Is it just me, or our music genre’s all around getting worse and worse? Emo is just retarded, and we all know that you cant spell Crap without RAP. I miss the classic Rock days

thenewhollywood | 7/2/2006, 6:01 pm EST

How much credibility can be given to a band whose main mouth peice is Pete Wentz. Yeah, the same guy with the dick pictures. You can’t make it through a Panic show without their ipod, which all of their actual sounds is coming from, cutting out to expose their half-muted instruments. Neil Young doesn’t do costume changes, Celine Dion does. Panic is like the Special Olympics: you may win, but at the end of the day, you’re still retarded.

bleh | 7/2/2006, 5:15 pm EST

Panic at the disco sound like every other so-called “pop-punk” band that has come out lately. Although, they are not punk EVER. Punk is dirty and real… panic at the disco are flamboyant and care too much about smudging their eyeliner. They sound just like Fall Out Boy, and that is truly sad.

nassima | 7/2/2006, 5:13 pm EST

OF course panic at the disco is a smash! I don`t understand why anyone would doubt that!
Maybe they inspire to be like fall out boy, i don`t see where the problem is!fall out boy are brilliant too! anyways, It`s just a start for panic at the disco and I`m sure they will shine even more than fall out boy! I`m personnaly sure about that…

chinaski241 | 7/2/2006, 3:31 pm EST

Panic! at the disco is CRAP! in the music industry. Fall Out Boy sucks, too. Pop punk. Gimme a break. I’d hope that NOFX and Bad Religion would beat them to death if they ever saw them on the street. The fact that there is even a debate about this garbage is disheartening. If you listen to Panic! at the Disco or Fall Out Boy, you’re a huge loser, and no one with a brain likes you. No exceptions.

eemr1 | 7/2/2006, 1:06 pm EST

Panic is like bottled water……a f****** rip off!!

alice | 7/2/2006, 7:19 am EST

i’ve only heard one of their songs: I write sins not tragedies. and i like that song…but i haven’t made my mind up whether i like the band or not…i have to hear more of their music…plus i don’t generally like emo…if it is emo…i think it is…i’m going to shut up now.

msr | 7/1/2006, 10:34 pm EST

i love panic st the disco

abraham | 7/1/2006, 7:09 pm EST

well panic’s songs dont make sense
but the emo fad will die soon
just wait till K-Fed makes his album (im joking of course)
Panic doesnt stand a chance in the future

rollig stone should do a poll

Painc at the disco Trash or Smash?
and have people vote
im pretty sure trash will win.

Owen | 7/1/2006, 6:35 pm EST

Panic! Nah, these guys really need to find their own territory and get out of their self aware young effect. All the old bands did it, and these just soak up in the stuff. I mean I respect how they don’t go all schoolboy error type music on us, like all Emo bands shout about hard school days. Please! But really Panic! Need to find some sort of music factor outside of an image basis.

Ro | 7/1/2006, 4:54 pm EST

I think Panic! sound fantastic and fresh and are doing it way better than than FOB. I’ll back them to come out with a stronger second album.

Pete | 7/1/2006, 3:33 pm EST

I’m so sick of this band. If anyone at Sirius reads this, for the love of god stop playing this on Alt Nation 21 !!!!

Nikki | 7/1/2006, 3:02 pm EST

I agree with EmoHater…even though I can’t understand why he is named EmoHater and likes Fall Out Boy…but that’s beside the point. Panic! is nothing but a bunch of snotty a-holes with no personality. And why did the bass player leave the band? Was all the fame getting to him? Give me a break. I don’t know who these kids think they are, but they need to get real.

Brenda | 7/1/2006, 2:44 pm EST

They are actually really weird but well anyway some of their songs are really good even if the voice is very similar to patrick stump´s voice i like them less than fall fall out boy of course…

Austin | 7/1/2006, 1:15 pm EST

Kevin | 6/30/2006, 1:54 pm EST
“Either be original or get out of the music industry”

Originality isn’t exactly the strong suit of the music industry.

MusicLover | 7/1/2006, 9:57 am EST

Panic! at the disco does have some good songs for people who like pop-punk music but they aren’t going to last long because people will get tired of the songs quickly and so they may get up in the top 10 and everything but they won’t stay for long.

Telecia | 7/1/2006, 4:23 am EST

People are saying that Panic! At The Disco are the next Arctic Monkeys hello….. wake up and smell the gas fumes, they have one song that is only recently catching people off guard becoz people think that it sounds different, but it dosent, they are a tryhard version of every other “punk” band, if ure not going to be origanal, F*#k off.

Brian | 7/1/2006, 1:53 am EST

Someone brings Creed into the debate? Wtf, Why do people always knock on them, sure they sucked towards the end of their career and all are pretty bad now, but My Own Prison is a pretty damn good debut record. Come on, same goes for Bush, STP, Korn and other nineties bands, you don’t have to be original to be good, because who the hell is original anymore. I’m so sick of this recycled garbage that they play on the radio, when was the last time you heard a new song on the radio that blew you away, it’s been a long time, why do you think so many teenagers are digging deep into older music now like Hendrix, or the Stones, Brian Eno, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, even Simon and Garfunkal. I’ll tell you why because so little of today’s music leaves a lasting impression on you…You really think ten years from now people are going to hear “I write sins not tragedies”, “sugar where going down” and are going to be like ohhhhh I miss hearing this song on the radio…good times. Foof glad I got that out of my system.

Eric Davies | 6/30/2006, 10:26 pm EST

Sit tight people they have a lot of growing to do. And grow they will! These guys put out one of the best pop/rock albums this past year. Give them a chance. I’m loving the energy they bring to the cd. I think the lack of a live preformance is due to nerves. I don’t think they expected to be this huge this fast and I dunno…they might be a bit scared of the masses!? All the hate, pay no mind. Panic! Is going to be around for a long time :)

John Bradley | 6/30/2006, 9:43 pm EST

Emotions run high on the ‘it’ band of the summer but honestly, I agree with Jason. PATD are an average band doing something creative with a campy burlesque atmosphere, however the music speaks for itself - only so many good riffs and several of their songs are complete misses. Still, as far as a comment on the emo subculture goes, I disagree PATD stands for much, being far more poppy than much else.

Matt2.0 | 6/30/2006, 9:12 pm EST

Okay lets be honest, personal opinion
is beyond the point. The fact stands that 2 years from now no one is even going to remeber who “Panic at the
Disco” is. They are just riding the
wave of this whole “emo” trend. I heard part of the CD in my english class on the last day of school when a “Cool” girl in my class convinced the teacher to play it over my Judas Priest album. I did not enjoy it but beyond that I heard no real musical talent or lasting appeal for it, something I can hear even in music I dont like. The bottom line is that PATD is nothing more than a fad band thats ultimate destiny will be a funny memory on VH1’s I love the 00’s when it appears 4 years from now.

RnR | 6/30/2006, 6:30 pm EST

I’ve seen Panic! twice- once with all their costumes/dancers and once with just them. Both rocked and I loved every second of it!
Their music is fun and it makes me happy. Who cares about genres, it’s impossible for one bad to remain in one category within rock anyhow. I’ve seen Fall Out Boy too (yes I paid to go to both bands’ shows) and they kicked ass as well. I tell everyone I see that these bands are awesome in concert! Singing along is probably my favorite part.

Big D | 6/30/2006, 6:04 pm EST

I went to the sold out PATD show in ATL last week, and wanted to leave when I walked in and found that was one of the oldest people at the show. I have to say that I am glad I stayed, because it was one of the most fun shows I have been to in years! You can say what you want about the band, but when everyone that you went with calls you the next day to say how awesome it was it has to count for something!

Trash it | 6/30/2006, 5:24 pm EST

This band is comparable to a rotten lump of foul cancer dipped in liquified poop.

MJ | 6/30/2006, 5:18 pm EST

Wow…I absolutely love the PATD CD! I think the songs are catchy as hell, and I love singing along. Yes, the singer’s voice sounds exactly like FOB’s lead singer, but oh well…I like their voices. I’m trying to win tix to the PATD show here in Detroit, b/c it’s sold out.

Johnny B | 6/30/2006, 5:10 pm EST

I listen to the radio at work, their song comes on every now and then. It’s the only time during the day I turn the radio off. And that picture above…. no comment needed, Imagine that I am looking at you with a souless empty expression. That sums it up.

Trisha | 6/30/2006, 4:39 pm EST

I’ve heard Panic! live (AOL Sessions, those count, right?) and I think they sounded good together. I don’t like Fall Out Boy, and so I haven’t heard much of their stuff, so I can’t argue there, but I think PATD have the capacity to go far career-wise.

J.S. Wildhack | 6/30/2006, 4:30 pm EST

A) Panic! shouldn’t be smacked with the ‘pop-punk’ label. I may be from a forgotten era (given the 5 minute attention span of the pop-consciousness), but when I think pop-punk, I think Blink 182 or Greenday, and there’s really very little ground for musical comparison. It’s the same umbrella-term jingoism that had people comparing disparate bands like Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins in the 90’s

B) I didn’t SEE the show for myself, but having seen their video and the photographs RS has posted, I’m not swayed so far as to think that their stage show is from “the outer limits,” or even very original at all (Moulin Rouge, anyone?)
I don’t know how they performed. They might have sucked. I’ve listened to their whole album and I wasn’t converted. The truth is, people love candy, and every generation gets the chance to stuff its face with soe shiny brand of mindless fluff, even if it’s fluff with endless references to Chuck Palahniuk. I’m willing to bet that people will forget about this image obsessed fake-emo-punk-warbling crap the same way they forgot about cheesy vocal groups, post grunge, and hair metal.

Jess... | 6/30/2006, 4:15 pm EST

God, Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco both suck. I loose a little more of my will to live everytime I hear them or see stupid articles like this.

ItAin'tNothin' | 6/30/2006, 4:00 pm EST

Panic! At the Disco lulled me into buying their CD. Now, I love my CD collection, and this is the only one I have that I have ever considered throwing out the window. I don’t care what they look like, cause you can’t see music (they claim to be MUSICians, after all), and if the music sucks, you have nothing.

James | 6/30/2006, 3:32 pm EST

Punk and Pop have no use in the same sentence. Punk was always poppy, (Buzzcocks or Ramones anyone?) but came from a much different emotional place than this crap does. All the “I’m pissed my mom made me come to the mall with her so I’ll go and rebel at Hot Topic by dressing up like Michael Monroe even though I have no idea who he is” pissants need music as shallow and vapid as their own problems, so POOF! here comes Fallout Boy and Panic! At the Disco to save the day. The Stooges were 20 when they changed rock n roll, what’s these guys’ excuse?

Jessica | 6/30/2006, 2:01 pm EST

Being a teen myself, I have yet to see what is so great about Panic! at the Disco. Despite the fact that they’re twenty, if they want to make it, they need to already be good. How long have they been playing together again?

All of the experimenting should be done for now. When they find their sound, something they have yet to do, that’s when they can start experimenting again. And when they do experiment, it should be to allow themselves to evolve into something greater, not just to find something that will make a “good show” or make them stand out like a sore thumb.

Kevin | 6/30/2006, 1:54 pm EST

Fall Out Boy is exactly what Creed was…goaty-rock without a shred of original talent. And what’s worse than Fall Out Boy? Well that would be Panic! At The Disco. Either be original or get out of the music industry.

Dan | 6/30/2006, 1:41 pm EST

This is an actual debate? You mean there is an actual sect of people claiming to be legitimate rock fans who take Panic! At the Disco seriously? When a band aspires to be Fall Out Boy, that’s a problem.

Spidergoat | 6/30/2006, 1:18 pm EST

I personally don’t like the music acts that are going on right now. Its just not in my taste. However, a band like Panic At The Disco is just a bland group of musicians who haven’t found a sound that works for them. They come off as another band that jumped on the bandwagon of the new wave of bands that have been making it big (fall out boy, my chemical romance). For their sake i hope they can hold on too the fact that their “young” as an excuse for making boring music. Remember ICP wears make-up and have crazy shows. They (ICP) also make horrible songs. Take away Panic’s live show…and you have horrible songs.

Craig | 6/30/2006, 1:12 pm EST

Hmmm…fall out boy and panic at the disco sound suspiciously similar… The singers sound exactly the same (both awful), they both enjoy long and cheesy song titles, and they’re two of the crappiest bands to come around in this decade. In my mind they’re the same band. I haven’t yet been subjected to panic’s single more than thrice or so, but from what I heard, it was bad. However, they’ve got a long way to go if they want to write something like “Dance, Dance”, which is slightly less pleasant than eating glass.

EmoHater | 6/30/2006, 12:22 pm EST

Oh, and infinitekage, by the way, the Arctic Monkeys are also twenty.

EmoHater | 6/30/2006, 12:21 pm EST

I like Fall Out Boy…because they write good songs, period. Panic! At The Disco is nothing more than a more danceable and flamboyant carbon-copy of their mentors. Their voices are practically the same, except that Brendon Urie is a showoff who doesn’t have an ounce of charisma.
Where are The Killers when you need them??

infiniterkage | 6/30/2006, 11:53 am EST

Let’s not forget the fact here that these kids are twenty years old. Personally, everyone i know loves their cd, and we’re far beyond our teenage years. These kids are musically talented and have years of room to grow. Be thankful for the fact that there’s still ambitious youngsters out there who have a vision and choose to project it. It may take some fine tuning, but remember….they’re twenty.
