It was without surprise that I read the review of this movie by Peter Travers. I have seen the movie, had previously been aware of this unspeakable tragedy, followed the progress of the production, casting and filming via the internet, saw various of the cast members appear on national programs extolling the virtues of the movie and describing in some cases the excellent reception they received while filming in Huntington, and in particular, how they had been personally affected by the story. Hype by the actors? Maybe, but I choose to believe in their sincerety. This was a bad time in a small town; an incident which deserved to be memorialized in this manner. I believe the acting was fine, the story true and the movie was excellent. There comes a time Mr. Travers, when your little reviews do not do justice to the truth, the people and the the story.

Okay, first off, this is a great movie and McG and his crew did an amazing job of bringing about the full feeling of what happened after the loss of our team. You say that "Matthew McConaughey hams it to the hilt as the new coach", is this comment supposed to mean that you think they made him funny to take the sad edge out of the movie? How can you say that this wasn't a good tribute, were you here when it happened? Have you spoken with anyone that was here when it happened? If the answer is no, then you have no clue what you are talking about. From the people that were directly affected by the crash and the loss of loved ones, this movie was done very well, portrayed the people correctly, and didn't disgrace those that were lost. I hope you get more information before giving such poor reviews to other movies. GO HERD!

I do not appreciate that you guys gave us one star. I am from Huntington, WV and they (McG and crew) did an awesome job of portraying what happened to our town. It is devastating...I was not alive but my parents were seniors at MU in 1970. I think that the movie should deserve four stars. You don't realize just how much this town is a football town. We eat, sleep and bleed green! GO HERD!

This is not a movie about football. This is a movie about the human spirit. This movie took me through a wide arrange of emotions. I cried, I was angry, I laughed, and I cheered. What more can you ask from a movie. The story is a about a community and a college who experience the worst disaster any college has every faced. The school and community could have given up; instead, they move forward in an inspirational fashion. Matthew Fox deserves condideration for best supporting actor. This is a must see movie, not a football movie.

The reviewer from Rolling Stone remains untouched. Some people are like that. He knows better than to be moved by the drama--and true pain and human triumph--portrayed here. From it script, direction, editing and acting, We Are Marshall is quite possbily the best movie dealing with sports that I have ever seen.

I am so sad to read some review from someone who knows nothing about the film regardless of seeing it....I know critics have their opinion on what they see but this is not your average "based on a true story" it is a TRUE STORY...the WHOLE town lost a team and friends and family and to have someone go and pick apart a movie that has finally helped a town start to heal wounds so deep....McG did a fabulous job telling our story and helped start the closer that was needed....I remember going to the football games in the 70's and it was hard to see them loose more then win but it didn't matter we the town came out every game and supported the team. because we had a team to support...we didn't want the lives that were lost to die in vain....yes we struggled in the beginning but if it had not been for one man to take the challange there would be no Marshall football and that alone would have done a disservice to the lives lost....I think that the "critic" needs to look at this movie from the point of rebirth rather then just another football movie! This is not just another football movie...and this just didn't effect our town but the many colleges that we played....I am a graduate of Marshall and I thought the movie was right on target and for the the children who lost their parent or parents and the parents who lost their children and the friends that were lost....Justice was done in this movie....

WE ARE....MARSHALL!!!!!!!

Sounds as if someone could not get past the director long enough to watch the film. This was a great movie. A roller coaster of emotions from crying to laughing. As I understand it, this movie is 100% fact. I hate to give anything away, but the last game scene was just as it happened in real life. It may seem that Hollywood added to it for entertainment purposes, but that is not the case. If you are aware of this story in any capacity then you will love this film. However, if you are not aware of the story you will enjoy it anyway. Just remember "It really happened this way!"

I thought the movie was great. The entire audience cheered during the movie and at the end everyone stayed until the credits were through. I can't believe the review Travers gave. It's an opinion thing and hopefully the turnout for the movie will prove Travers wrong.
