At first when My Boyfriend saw the trailor... he watched it
again and again and again......he was so excited, so when It
finally came out, we drove the 2 hours to the nearest theatre
to view this massively epic film.
I was less than interested, but after watching , I just needed
more, the masculine men, the toughness, the muscles, the
way leonitus loved his woman, and how much respect the
men had for eachother,
the whole fantasy of this movie is brillient, will watch it again
and again, and will get my tough boyfriend to roar the
deliciously sexy quotes to me to get me in the mood!
go sparta.....

Personally, i think the movie 300 was unbelievable, it was fantastically refreshing to see something done in this style. The music, lighting and timing worked together to create a spectacular mood for just about every scene and there is not a man among us who can say they didn't enjoy the raw, gory battle scenes. At first glance, an excellent film. Of course though, we have to look a little deeper, we have to see what historical inaccuracies, or shadows of minute political implications we can find. Whether it be dispute over the battle of Thermopylae or arguments saying the film was created to bash gays or to promote white supremacism, everyone seems to have something to say. Like most movies, 300 needs to be taken with a grain of salt. To put the racism discussion to rest, Greeks-- they're white. Moving on, one review states that the movie is homophobic, why? because the spartans aren't gay of course. The writer supplied that seeing as they were constantly fighting together and required a level of loyalty and trust between each other that their relationships must have included "homosexual acts". Possibly the most ridiculous statement i've ever heard. Not to be offensive but I don't know what country you'd have to live in or how you'd have to be brought up to find merit in that, though i'm sure bordering on 99% of us can not only attest to having a close friend of the same gendre but to NOT participating in "homosexual acts" with said person. As for the historical flaws, i will quote the dozens that have said this before me, this was not meant to be a precise reenactment of the battle of Thermopylae and the events that follow. Nor was it made to give you an accurate depiction of Spartan life at the time of the war. The movie 300 was based on a graphic novel, a comic book, the book itself was loosely based on Sparta and the battle of Thermopylae, it is certainly not plausible to rate the movie based on historical accuracy. Another part of this movie that's taken lot of crap is the dialogue, "hokey", "predictable", maybe, but well-acted, and achieved what it was aiming for. The goal was to depict the Spartans as a strong, unwavering people, how can you be unpredictable when following the one path that ensures any kind of a future for your people? Personally I enjoyed the dialogue very much, I often knew what Leonidus was about to say but I would have been dissapointed if not angered had he not said those very things. If anyone has seen the movie "the number 23" you'll find that subliminal messages are a lot like the number 23, if you look for them, you're going to find them. Do yourself a favor and on occasion just suspend disbelief and judge things for what they are. 300 is an action film, don't watch it expecting political correctness or flawless illustration of historic events. Trust me, keep that in mind, and you will not be disappointed.

I had already seen the 1962 film, The 300 Spartans, when I saw this film. I must say, 300 outclasses its predecessor in almost every aspect. But I simply don't understand the contreversey surrounding it. It wasn't meant to be historically accurate, it was based ona graphic novel! And besides, none of our accounts of the actual battle are by actual witnesses who were at Thermopylae, so we can never completely know what happened there. And I'm sure that the accusations of racism is big pile of shit created by idiotic people who are too easily offended.

I dont get why so many people think the movie is racist. to
many people are easily offended these days. i mean if
anything (whether it be a movie, book, or show) doesent have
EVERY ethnicity in it's cast its racist.
Now for the movie, I had never read the graphic novel or read
anything about the actual battle, but i had heard that it was a
thrilling movie, so i went and saw it, and LOVED it. i dont get
why some people have to be so critical on this movie. or any
movie for that matter. Just sit back and try to have a good
time. Id know id rather be at an average rated movie than at
my home being bored out of my skull.

This movie is pure escapism. Yeah, the dialogue is hoakey and the story is "not historically accurate" but it did what a lot of recent fantasy movies have not been able to do: it allowed the viewer to escape to an alternate world and not think about reality.
The CGI effects are amazing and of course, there are tons of hot guys in their skivvies and capes. It's about time we girls had something to look at.
As for it's historical accuracy, the film is based on the graphic novel, not the history books. The film is right on when it comes to following the novel.
I recommend the film to anyone looking for an escape and a non-stop thrill ride.

as for the historical correctness its not based on history its based on a graphic novel based on history does anyone else see the fact that its BASED ON not factual 300 is a movie not a docco people need to stop worry about the historical correctness of the movie and the underlying issues or racism or whatever you need to start going to the movies to enjoy them for what they are. if you spent less time critisizing the stupid little things like that you might be able to enjoy the artistic value of this movie the way that slow motion and real time were used in this is breath taking and the way color was used to depict the mood of the scene was revolutionary
if you want to see a work of art and an amazing TALE of sacrifice and comradery go and see this awe inspiring movie. if you wan historical correctness and shit about rasicsm and nazis stay at home order foxtel and watch the histroy channel im glad to see other people got the same as i did out of this movie

This movie has just made it to Europe. If memory serves me correctly, this is the fourth remake. The movie is almost a dog. The script is poorly written and the new graphics are totally unbeleive-able.The movie is predictable from the very first word. We have seen these type of films before. The visual effects are second rate and none of the actors are convincing. If you have a few hours to waste, please go and see the film.Otherwise wait for the DVD.

The highly enjoyable film 300 has unfortunately been bashed by some for its historical inaccuracies. To those people I say that this movie never set out to be a historically accurate portrayal of the Battle of Thermopylae in the first place. The movie 300 is an adaptation of Frank Miller’s graphic novel 300 which is loosely based off of the battle of Thermopylae and is told from a modern viewpoint. It is not a movie about Herodotus’ history book VII (Polymnia) or any other historical account of this great battle; however, it still manages to keep the most important aspects of this great battle intact. For instance this movie captures the courage and self sacrifice of the Spartans in great detail. It also highlights how their sacrifice served as a moral victory for the Greeks which ultimately lead to the Greeks driving the Persians out of Europe.
This movie has also been wrongly labeled by some as being racist because the Persians are the villains of the movie and Persia just happens to be modern day Iran. The bottom line ladies and gentlemen is that this is a movie about the Battle of Thermopylae and it was fought between the Persian Empire and the Greeks. The Persians were not simply thrown into the film to bash Iran. The historical facts as to whom this battle was fought between was not altered in the least. Also lets not forget that this is a movie about the courage and self sacrifice of the Spartans and not about how the Persians won the Battle of Thermopylae by killing every last man who remained on the battlefield (besides if it was would you really want to see this film?). I encourage people to keep these things in mind before they starting making unsubstantiated labels.
Some have also tried to make the weak argument that the look of the enemy is part of the racism because there are some non-human enemies in the Persian army. Again I must point out the fact that this movie is an adaptation of a graphic novel. Being that this is the case the whole look of the movie has been structured to create a surreal world. In this world things like monsters are possible. So it makes sense that the enemies can have monsters in their ranks that they can unleash whenever they feel it necessary. It is all a part of the visual presentation of the story it is not a secret plot to attack the Iranians. Think about it. Would you really be as interested in what would happen next if the wonderfully fit Spartans just fought against other wonderfully fit humans? No, you wouldn’t. The monster element makes things much more visually appealing.
