The editors in this magazine should really review the output these out of touch writers such as Caryn Ganz who more than likely is more focusing on a different career for herself. Out of touch with the meaning of what music is supposed to be is very apparent with her rants of pseudo anaylsis. I swear if you change some of the names in her review I was reading an opinion about a politicians motives in Washington Post. More of a reason for her to choose a different career path. She perhaps is stuck in another time era of what she appreciates about music. Wakeup, it's not the 90's. Even moreso was this obvious then in the last statement that Tom's youthful voice will adhere his world influence. Last time I checked, just about any meaningful Rolling Stone article about music influence, the music that influences the generation of the time usually aims to inspire the youths to see the world different, i.e. Bob Dylan. But none of that is important to compare, the music should be seen for what it is. In regards to the album, despite whatever intentions Tom Delonge expected to create in this record. The album creates lyrics of hope, love, and intimacy into his perception of his life and the future. An artist who gives his moments of truth and implicit appreciation of the beautiful things he sees on this earth that we all forget. And in doing it, filling the album with multi-layered mixes of melodic modern rock blended with spacious synth sounds and even nostalgic 80's choruses. This album does what it intends to do from start to finish. Turn the volume to ten, and you anticipate what's coming, you listen to their message, and you feel something new. It moves you, it's Angels & Airwaves. Experience it yourself.

All the pretensions of U2 with half the songwriting ability of Blink-182. Yikes.

For one, why am I going to trust a review from a magazine that gives Britney Spears's new album a higher rating than this one. The quality of the two albums are not even comparable. I-Empire inspires. I dare you to play this cd while driving in the car and not tap your feet, hands, etc. This cd bleeds emotion with its driving beats and vocals. It's about time someone is releasing honest and true music without the sole goal of making as much money as possible by appealing to the masses. Calling I-Empire a cd is an incorrect way to describe it, it's more of a record. This fact is also a welcome departure from the practice by most artists of making 3 or 4 good songs on a cd, then filling the rest of it up with boring and uninspired songs. This album is wonderful, inspiring, emotional, uplifting, and so much more. Give it a true and honest listen, and I bet that you will experience the same thoughts.

A U2 album sung by a Venice Beach skater boi is a weird thing. I agree with the RS reviewer. I just can't get past his voice, which sounds like a snotty LA teenager who I'd expect to be more concerned with catching a knarly wave or bitchin' babe than addressing the world's ills.

I've gotta admit I'm a bit disappointed with I-Empire. Even though 'Whisper' does sound like a newer 'Joshua Tree', I dug the atmospheric sounds, echoes, and what Tom was saying. Except for 'Call to Arms' and 'Heaven', Empire seems flat to me, I found myself waiting for something to happen. Either with guitars, hard and deeper drums, or backup vocals, the let down was a bit much.

I give DeLonge credit for sticking his neck out, and hope that more AvA records are in the future!

Wow! I cannot understand critic reviews of Angels and Airwaves because they do not touch the starlit surface of what the album truly is. Tom's voice is what makes this album inspiring for everyone from the musician to the poet, and creative writer. I think the ability to take a piece of work such as this, and incorporate small proses into epic short films is genius. I don't care what the so called"professional" critics say, this album is amazing. AVA ROCKS!!

In response to RS's review, Tom's voice is part of what makes him amazing. His voice, not necessarily whiny, but just different, is full of emotion, and you can tell it even better in this second album. I-Empire in short, is improved over We Don't Need To Whisper and is unlike any music out there that I've heard. 4 stars from me. It would get 5, but to me Blink is the best music ever made.
