To be honest, Avril has done an excellent job of mixing the characteristic Avril sound with a strange blend of 80's candy pop with - for the first time, even though we've seen the word associated with her music - at least a nod in the direction of the kind of punk that Blink 182 has made popular in the last decade... Songs like Hot and Runaway have that very typical Avril (although Hot picks up that funky 80's guitar riff on the 2nd verse) whereas Everything Back But You sounds like it could have been on Blink 182's Enema of the State. I think we can see that while still having her own sound, there is a realization that she can't make 7 albums like Let Go with any amount of success. She is laying the ground work for a jump into some different areas while still retaining her trademark sound. An excellent follow up and continuation to has been an outstanding run of albums.

Her goth phase didn't last too long, didn't it? After the punk, the goth, here comes the pop. All the outfits worked for her, this one suits her just fine, too. The album opens with the catchy, cheerleader-esqu pop track "Girlfriend" and just doesn't stop the sugar high she's getting off of the Limoncello she's been drinking on pretty much half the album. The title track is a bit embaressing, but it works. "I Can Do Better" & "Runaway" have to be the best tracks here. Energetic, fun and hyper, just like the rest of the album.

"The Best Damn Thing" is very fast, fun, and infectious! Avril goes to the next level with this album: her sound is louder, lyrics have improved (especially with her ballads), and it's going to be everyone's guilty pleasure! I've listened to this album two or three times now and I'm having a blast every single time. My favourites are "I Can Do Better", "Innocence", "When You're Gone", "The Best Damn Thing" and "Everything Back But You"...yes, that's a lot of favourites! Her ballads are absolutely beautiful with Avril sounding so vulnerable. The drum patterns are ridiculously good throughout the album especially in "I Can Do Better" and "Everything Back But You." Avril showcases a cheerleader-esque attitude that is very confident and playful. For those that take music so seriously and criticize all the little titbits about an artist and songs in general, will probably hate this album. People need to take in music more lightly and enjoy the sounds more freely otherwise you won't enjoy much of anything. "The Best Damn Thing" is pretty darn good and I hope people give it a chance. Avril is internationally known for a reason and she steps up to the plate with this offering.

I think that Avril Lavigne did an OK job. I mean who would
listen to someone like me and the title is The Best Damn
Thing. I can tell you this the songs are catchy but I'm not a
punk rock kinda guy. Even if I was I would say that just
because her hit single Girlfriend is good. And you've heard
Keep Holding On. Even some people heard When You're Gone
and Innocence. Doesn't mean you are gonna like the CD. I got
to admit I don't have to try, The Best dam Thing, and
Everything back but you wasn't that bad. The rest of the
songs are horrible. Except for Girlfriend, Innocence, When
You're Gone , and Keep Holding On.
