Your Turn

Seriously men. I don't think you completely understand the honor of a five star rating. An album like Bible, though it is a fun and interesting listen, isn't worthy of the most honarable rating this magazine gives out. You see, the job of these ratings magazines is to review these albums objectively, and not in a blinding state of favoritism as most of you certainly are. It is my honest belief that in two weeks most of you will forget that Neon Bible ever existed, and you'll move on to worship some other conceptual album that you find entertaining. So please, don't go around the internet ranting on about how rolling stone jipped the Arcade. No one will take you seriously if you do.

This by far is one of the best albums in O7! I love the last guys comments. The big juggernauts like RS are not suppose to enjoy art since they have become the swine they origanly used to oppose in the era where Hunter S. was one of there writers. The beauty of Arcade Fire is epic! No Cars Go!

And a big fat flying fuck you to Rolling Stone, but what can you expect from people that sellout by putting the Fucks from Fallout Boy on the cover. I DJ at the college, and introduced Arcade Fire to the campus; it is now one of the most request bands, besides Elliott Smith. The albums tight, unlike your asses. I think I’m going to have a fuck the fucks at Rolling Stone show. I have always hated your magazine, but for some sadistic reason bought it. I now officially will never so much as look at one of your trite pieces of shits.

A band like The Arcade Fire, in these days of horrific mainstream music, is like a breath of fresh air to me. It's great to know that the indie music scene is still thriving with originality and intelligent music while the pop music scene continues to grow into one big steaming pile of feces. What are the masses thinking? Panic! At the Disco??? are you shitting me? Ok sorry about that little rant.
A few days ago I bought Neon Bible out of the blue. I've had Funeral since it came out and so I knew they would have crazy pressure to come up with something great on their sophmore album. Well, this band definitely came up with something amazing. I've never listened to music like this, where there is a constant rollercoaster of emotions from the melodies and lyrics. Many of the songs reach moments in which, to me, the music gives the listener simultaneous feelings of joy and dread. Songs such as Ocean of Noise, Neon Bible, Intervention, and My Body Is A Cage all have this "bipolar" effect of feeling to them that is purely amazing. The sound of the album is so uniquely this band's alone and their eclectic mix of instruments is genius. Win's voice suits their sound perfectly and on a few songs (Keep The Car Running, Antichrist TV Blues) he channels some early Springsteen. The backup vocals from his wife add to the depth and feeling of the music and also to the Fire's unique sound. The only reason I didn't give Neon Bible 5 stars is because of the powerful dominating darkness on many of the songs. I felt like Funeral was a little more well-rounded in not being overly bleak. But then again, obviously this intensely gothic sentiment is the main point of Neon Bible. And it's great how the band leaves some sounds of hope of survival among the trajedy in this crazy life.

Frick - hello... hello.. is anyone home. wow, did you miss the boat. i respect your writing but i do not understand why you are not on board with this album. i had never even heard of arcade fire until i read an interesting article about them a few months ago in the kansas city star. i picked up neon bible and can now honestly say that it is one of the most moving albums i have ever heard. yes, there are ample instruments playing at once, but that is the beauty. some how Winn and co. were able to write songs with a cohesiveness that brings everything together. it's not just noice, and it's not forced or distracting like you might here on an "of montreal" track. seriously bro, i respect your writing, but i'm confused with your review. but i guess that's what makes music and art great...everyone has their own taste and subjective opinion.

Honestly Mr. Fricke of Rolling Stone magazine...you okay buddy? I hope that you listened to Neon Bible more than once. I really do because it seems like you listened to it one time and wrote a review. I thought Funeral was the single greatest thing I've ever experienced. Then I listened to these gods and goddesses' new album. Even better than the first. Mostly everyone here seems to agree that you may have written an inaccurate review. Please listen to it again right now. If you are a lover of meaningful and well-written music, you will realize your mistake. Thank you.

I agree that Rolling Stone magazine has once again let me down with their review. This is a classic album. I am really starting to lose faith in getting fair and accurate reviews from RS. This album has captivated me more than any in recent memory. It has a different feel than "Funeral". "Funeral" was written during somewhat of a grieving stage for the band. Several of the members has lost close friends and family during the writing and recording of the album. Many of the songs on "Funeral" were about hope and trying to feel at peace with their circumstances. With beautiful lyrics such as:
"You change all the lead,
sleepin' in my head to gold,
as the day grows dim,
I hear you sing a golden hymn,
the song I've been trying to say.
Purify the colors, purify my mind.
Purify the colors, purify my mind,
and spread the ashes of the colors
over this heart of mine!"
"Neon Bible" is darker:
"Working for the church while your family dies.
You take what they give you and you keep it inside.
Every spark of friendship and love,
will die without a home.
Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone."
It is very evident that some of the hope on their first release has turned to anger on their new album. I can't say one is better or worse. I love them both for many reasons.
